Title: How do you feel about seeing the same objects in TS2 in TS3?
Post by: SimGirl20 on May 18, 2009, 01:19:34 am
I was curious how you all feel about seeing most of the objects in TS2 return again in TS3? I mean if you will look at some of the screenshots on various sites you can clearly see that the same objects from TS2 will be in the TS3 albeit recolored 100 times, this sort of ticks me off because I would think that EA would atleast add new objects to a *new* game :p

I personally don't mind it, because like you said, it will be recoloured enough times to where they'll still be unique.

I don't give a rat's what is in it, cause I'm not getting the steaming pile of bug and SecuROM-laden dung. All this hype about it is just starting to tick me off because no one is learning that the customer is getting ripped off. It's been going on for years and it's been proven again that this is happening. Why? Because the customer lets it happen by not standing up and demanding that they improve their product, that's why. Some of us are standing up, but it takes more voices than just ours to make sure that we get heard and if people still keep giving them money for defective products, it's still going to be going on.

:-X I hate it! I played the game already and there are so many objects ripped from the sims 2... And some of them are not even recolored...

They've had how many years to come up with new stuff and we still get this old crap? Rip off!

Reminds me how little work they put into the project. Seriously, without decent (free) mods I can't see this as anything more then EA's dream cashcow.

It appears that it is still not sinking in to those who choose to get this thing that this site and others like this are built around the sims 2 and in some cases 1. These sites legally cannot host anything associated with sims 3. No CC. no mods, no bug fixes, nothing. That kind of thing has been reserved for EA.
I honestly don't want offend anyone but those that constantly carry on about the wonders and merits of the thing should be posting that on the BBS or tsr forums.
This game has the potential to destroy sites like this, so I find it rather puzzling why people  who have been utilising the facilities of this site to improve their previous game are raving about this crap instead of ripping it apart.

I was educated to that today roerzman.  It just takes knowledge.  Once people understand that it isn't rumor and speculation--- that EA says NO CC or modification allowed, those mistakes won't occur again.  I think up until now (and yes still for some who still don't get it) some have felt like people were putting words into EA's mouth, when in fact they were only relaying EA guidelines.  I understood that they had no plans to allow CC but until today didn't fully realize they intended to make it criminal to do so.  It's about educating yourself.  Once you learn the rules you don't ever bring harm to the site so that's pretty much all that needs to be passed on and understood.

You live and learn.  People won't stop raving until they see the game and decide for themselves--that's unavoidable.  Putting the site in danger is defintely avoidable and I'm sure none of us wish to do that.

This site is and will be my home for many years to come.

Pierre, if threads like this and the opinions expressed get you so upset that you have to use an effect that annoys the heck out of people just to let them know that you have your knickers in a twist, stay out of this section, period.

I read last night on this wiki info site that TS3 is essentially set 50 years before TS2 so that would explain why some of the more familiar faces are so young. That would also explain why some TS1 objects are recycled for the game. It's kind of nice though, I always wondered why Mrs. Crumplebottom was such a crabby old bitch. :p I don't think TS3 should have been called The Sims3 though since in my opinion TS2 should have had the game elements that TS3 does. If I were to think of a name for the game, I would have choosen The Sims: The Beggining (or something like that) agreed?

P.S. I STILL do not understand how to do a text link

Text link works like this:

[*url=website address]text you want linked[*/url]

Just remove the asterisks and you're set to go.

Thank you Joy, but do I add the text first and then the url or viceversa? I tried doing what you said but it seemed like I made the url as my text so ass-backwards..lol

It should look like this:

Remove the asterisks, and you get this:

I thought that you were staying out of this thread, Pierre? Yes, the post that you said it in was wiped out, but I clearly remember you stating that you were going to avoid this one. Either don't claim you're going to do something like that, or keep your word. You don't get it both ways.

Well, a person is either consistent and people have a good opinion of them because of it, or they're inconsistent and people believe they're a flake that is better off ignored. I know which I prefer.

Anyhoo, after reading that article, it does make a bit more sense as to why some things would still be around, but there should be more vintage stuff if it's going to be set in the past. You know, less modern appearing things like appliances and stuff. It would be a huge anachronism to have a microwave fifty years ago, or a modern-looking food processor. Does that make sense to you how I explain it? Or would it just be better to say that things ought to look a bit more retro, considering the timeline of the story they're trying to tell is set fifty years in the past?

Because if they really wanted to make it authentic, they should have taken some of those years spent developing the game to make objects that match their story setting.

Or maybe the Sims 2 is set in the future ;)

Post by: Paden on May 25, 2009, 03:14:13 pm
That's what I just said... If Sims 3 is set in the past, the objects in it ought to have a retro feel to them, which mean the designers of the stupid thing should have made the objects for the game appear to be clunkier or something. *sits on Joy and steals her coffee*

LOL... no, I meant maybe Sims 2 was supposed to be set 50 years from today, silly. *wiggles out from under the cat and steals her catnip*

*lets out an outraged yowl and runs after Joy, stealing the catnip back and eating it before sitting on her again and drinking more coffee* Meh!

Besides, if that were the case, then all of the appliances in the Sims 2 game would be hopelessly antique looking and outdated. So, nyah! :P

Are you kidding? I can't leave my coffee cup unattended or I'll find my cat dipping his paw into it and licking it off.

*drugs coffee with a heavy sedative and pushes Paden off when she's asleep*

Now having said that, the first commercial microwave hit the market in 1947, so nyah right back. Mind you, it was 6ft tall and weighed something like 750 lbs LOL. Still, the first countertop microwave was in use as early as 1967. Not quite 50 years ago, but still. *shrugs* I'm not to fussed with anacronisms. ;)

I believe that it was not to long after that when the news came that some intellectual giant decided to dry his dog or cat in a microwave. I believe said critter went boom.
Could well be a parent of one of the BBS club.

lol My cats don't thankfully.  Although one of them goes crazy for spaghetti.

1947?! Wow had no idea microwaves were made that far back.   I'm with Paden on the retro idea though. Of course I think in my mind I gathered that the Sims in TS2 were from 50 or so years from now, what with the servo robots and all.

To be technical, TS2 takes place 25 years after TS1, and TS1 was released in 2000, so that would make the general timeline of TS2 (When you 1st installed the base game) beginning in 2025, which is relatively a long time from now. It being now 2009, 5 years after TS2's release, that would make it 2030 in "Sim Earth" for those who play in Pleasantview. (And the other Maxis hoods, considering they'd have to exist in the same timeline since there's the fake Bella in Strangetown.) And seeing as in Japan they actually do have Robots similar to Servos, you can make the argument that full functional robots with advanced AI's will be possible in 21 years. (Which will be 2030) That's how I generally gauge time that passes in my game. Of course in my Pleasantview, it'd be more along the lines of 2043, seeing as a lot of time has passed. For some people, less time has passed, for others...more time has passed, depending on how you play and how you allow your sims to age.

Now you have TS3. And in TS3, Bella and Morty are both Children. Now in TS1 they're adults, so you figure TS3 has to take place about 30-35 years before TS2, which make the setting of TS3 chronologically around the early to mid 60's. Considering Bella and Morty might be 5-8 years old at the start of TS3, they presumably were born in between 1957-1960. So for the user who doesn't age down default Maxis sims on TS2, that would make Mortimer about 60-65 at that start of TS2 if my math's not off..which is believable. So yes, that would make the general landscaping and architecture of TS3 WAAAAAAAAAAAAY to modern for it being set 3 or so decades before TS1. But eh...I guess EA didn't think it'd sell having the game based in a past era, despite the fact that it should be. (Though some might argue that MIGHT have been a good idea. Base it in the past, and offer CC that gradually evolves in advancement to simulate the passing of time. I really need to get this frakkin' degree in Game Design already, I could be gettin' paid for ideas like that...lol.)

I think if it means we will see these items in TS3 quicker, then its fine. Even the pool table / darts / diving board animations etc., just recycle them all. They were good enough in TS2 and they would still be fine in TS3. ;)

And as for timelines, they're better left out of it altogether. I don't wanna see a future sims game without mobile phones or PC's in it just because its set before their era.

Err *taps fingers on desk* I think if I have to pay 50$ for a whole new game, the idiots at EA could have done a better job as far as objects go. I mean c'mon how long have they had to work on the game like friggin' 4 years or something? :p

No that just shows you one thing about EA recycling 20-30 objects from TS2 for TS3

Personally I don't mid seeing the same stuff again. I recall there were some stuff in TS1 that somehow resembles some objects in TS2 (only with different names). You can create styles and stuff in TS3 so that kinda made me give the objects a thumbs up.

Although the objects are a little weird. The game sez the story was before Pleasantview, so I'll be expecting a 70's theme and stuff but no, I got laptops, VR goggles and cars that go faster than a Lambo (they look weirder than a Lambo too). If Mortimer got s****y computers during his adult years why did his father wield a laptop around town? O_o
