Title: The sims 3, What do you think?
Post by: papa_di on June 02, 2009, 01:12:04 pm
Sorry EA, I hate it. My opinion
        Negatives
The graphics are like Sims 1.
You move in one family, Then go back to move in another, the family moved in prior disapears.(nope actually You can.My nephew told me, just not in the same place I guess)OOPS Have to check again.
Moving about is a pain.)
NO UNDIES!!!!!
Then tried to register the game and Couldn't!! (it was my fault its registered.)
No cheat codes really, I really liked the family funds code. Not there!!! (kaching and motherlode work)
You can turn the graphics up, it looks a little better. but the game lags very bad.
don't like placing prebuilt lots either, can only put them on the empty lots they put down and only lots that are same size or bigger, if you place it on a lot that is bigger you have a lot of waste. if you place it on the same size you can't rotate if needed
        Positives
I like the customizing, the color changing is cool.
Moving furniture is easier.
I like going to visit people that parts cool, but I would like to visit the people I created with the people I created.
Like that you don't have to buy clothes, you can get all clothes from the dressers, that will eliminate losing outfits when you move.

                          Solutions
Hopefully the great sims 2 creators on the web can make this game more fun by .
Making more lifelike skins and clothing.
Putting UNDIES back.
getting rid of the silly crap, by making mods.

As of now I rate it -wasted my money
I like Sims 2 Better

Well so far.....I think this should have come out between Sims and Sims2, I call it sims1.5

The graphics are still much better than they were in Sims1 but do have that feel.

You can move in your own families.  Once you are in your playable families house, choose edit town, then move your new sims into a home.  I suggest you do this very early before other families fill in the affordable houses.

I haven't had any problems moving about,  the camera controls can be a bit wonky at times tho.  I like being able to pull up the town map and tell my sim to visit.  I can then go back to the house and continue playing with the rest of the family while the other sims is out meeting people & doing something else.  He/she will come home eventually all by themself or I can just click on the arrows on its icon.  Or just click the ground and tell them "go here"

There are undies in the sleepwear area.  Some of them are actually kinda cute-surprised me

I know kaching still works, haven't tried motherlode yet as I don't mind helping them out but I don't want things to be to easy for them.

I like the jobs, many of the same jobs we are familiar with,  some of them actually branch off into 2 different areas at a certain level.  I like there is more than skilling & making friends to most jobs.  Some of my sims have had to read a book or give a speech as part of the job.  The political guy has to have fund raising parties.  My sims have been able to level up without having all the skills just by hard work.  I get to pick if they want to work normal, hard, slack off.  Some of the jobs have other options as well.

I like the gardening and collecting which surprised me as I really never got into it in previous versions.  Raising those plants from bad or normal to perfect, trying to collect them all etc.

I love love love that I can drag the smelly plates and old newspapers to the trash without having to leave live mode or direct my sim to do it.  Did I mention I LOVE IT?

I like my new moms being able to go have the baby at the hospital.......home births are annoying.  It seems to last FOREVER!

I hate the absent minded trait,  the dumb face and the "Homerlike" duh duh duh is annoying.

I hate the playdough like look of the sims

I hate the babies.....

I hate going back to the basegame again.  It has been a very long time but I have a foggy memory of Sims2 basegame and missing all the things from Sims1 that were later added in the EPs.

Pfft. Okay, definatly not getting it. How was the installation? Any weird s**t?

Admin note: While I can appreciate your disgust and disappointment, this is still a PG-13 site and some words just don't fly. The one I edited is one of them. Please be more careful in the future.

I have it -- I like some aspects of it and other's not so much, but that's the way I felt about prior sims games as well. It's something new to mess around with when I am bored with the other. I will most definitely keep playing sims 2 as well. I like it much better then the sims life stories, castaways etc..
If you get it Have fun .. if you don't you still have sims 2 I presume... :)

LOL *I AM DEFIANT ABOUT THE GAME* Man can I spell or what....

According to various sites on the net, most of the cheats still work..you don't use boolProp anymore, though.. I think it's just testingcheatsenabled true or something to that effect.  The aging one, of course, doesn't because you can turn off aging in the Game Options (although I would LOVE to find a cheat to manipulate (read: disable) aging for ONE sim only).

It has it's positives and negatives.  My biggest beefs are A) Your Sim just disappearing into a building when they go to a community lot (at least most lots work this way.  I'm aware of one other outside of the beach, parks and graveyards) and B) After like 11pm, NO ONE is outside.  I don't know if Sims 2 was like this prior to Nightlife, as I didn't play it before that expansion was released.  It's rather irksome though, especially if your Sim has a job that gets off late (like the music career jobs).

I really love the idea of being able to visit different lots (residential and community), that's huge for me.  I also like the traits and the (seemingly) improved AI.

If anyone out there just got the game and is debating trying the free town they give you, Riverview..DON'T DO IT.  It's terrible.  Use Sunset Valley instead.

I hope we see some changes or an expansion pack soon.

I. Am. Wholly disappointed. The faces are really awful, no matter how much you try the faces still look puffy and the eyes are creepy. Why are their eyes constantly rolling around? It's creepy. I hate how plastic and fake their skin looks. I hate all of the hairstyles and make up. The clothes suck three kinds of ass. The stuff that comes with the game is a very big let down, unless there is some heavy modding and CC I will not be playing this game much. I wasn't even that much impressed with the personalities, they all seemed to just be offshoots of Lazy, Active, Neat ect... Visiting other lots is nice, but not enough to sustain a whole game. It's like they spent so much time on making a whole outside world, they forgot half the fun of playing the sims is picking out clothes and decorating your house. Speaking of decorating your house, making a house on the Sims 3 is ten times more annoying that it was on 1&2 and that's saying A LOT! I think Maxis dropped the ball big time on this one. I think sells will be up for a hot minute because it's a new game and everyone is caught up in the hype but then I think sells will level off. This game isn't worth the money EA is Charging. Who ever said it should be called the Sims 1.5 is exactly right, this game takes way too many steps back. Way too many.

One thing about the pudgy faces that I noticed..

It's the young adults that seem to have fat faces.  When my character matured into an adult, his face was much more normal looking.  I don't know if you guys are using the young adult models or not (the game default is at young adult when you make a new Sim).

Well.....I like going to all the neighbors an impregnating the whole town and your kids age with you an don't have to live with you and no child support. LOL. sorry to excited about that!
My nephew kind of reminded me that I wasn't that impressed with sims 2 till EP's and custom content. So I guess I'll have to wait an see. I'm stuck with it now....

I like going to visit people that parts cool, but I would like to visit the people I created with the people I created.

You can.  Just move a copy of a family into a vacant house and you can visit them with your active family.  You could even switch your active family and play one of your other created families, while the other family continues under AI control.  Just be aware that switching active families loses their wishes/promises.  Not really a big deal as when you switch back you can get more.

the no bodyshop thing [mod edit]annoys[/mod edit] me off. and yeah there is still a lot of worrying about their needs but maybe i just need time to get used to it??? i don't know. luckily i still kept my sims 2 double deluxe........
but i still like the create-a-sim menu, but it does have its ups and downs....i just like the hair and where you actually get to pick the lifetime wish or want (as in sims 2). well i'll try it for the rest of the night and then i'll see how it goes......

mod note: please watch your language, no matter how annoyed you are with it there is no need for profanities

From the look of the things look like Warlock and the gangs are not going to have their fair share as in no boobs, phat butt or any other goodies I enjoy in sims 2 especially the notorious closer family hack which I delightful enjoy as well.

It sounds liek to me like i hav said on other boards, people want a game w/ all the expansions at launch...Sims 2 also sucked at launch and other then the graphics sims 1 fans were complaining.....and as far as skin tones, ect suckign....rofl...i remember the sims 2 base game look/maxis default skins<shudder>, at least this time my sims head is the same tone as it's body. The game definatly needs mods and CC and expansions, but that is sorta the point is it not..over all compared to sims 1 and sims 2 at launch there is more to sims 3(yeah some object are lacking, need more clothing choices,ect..the recolors make up for a bit of that) like all the jobs and options and skills..that in both sims 1 and 2 did not come out till expnsions..heck sims 1 didn't even have any community lots at launch

Okay, so I played it (just before my daughter took over--lol)

From a creative point of view---

It looks like we're starting with base game stuff all over again. There is a guitar in it, the only instrument.
The view of the horizon is beautiful, but when in play mode in your house it looks a lot like sims 1-their movements are like sims 1-like cardboard figures.
There is option to change the theme/color/patterns of each object.

I haven't figured out how to use the bike yet, but when you want to go somewhere you click on 'm' it will show you a map, and many icons to click on. A taxi will show up and take you to that new lot. The only one I've gone to yet is the beach, (gorgeous view-even the waves you see the spray hitting behind the rocks from where you are!) and all they did was cook on the grill and talk to two people.

In create a sim you have many many options to make a sim, but it will take a lot of practice to do my celebrity sims again! LOL they have Thigh High Boots!!!!!

motherlode works very well in it! The paper boy/girl puts the paper down and runs off! You see other sims in the neighborhood coming out, but then daughter is on it so I haven't played that part yet!

So now you have a 'so far' glimpse of the game. We are still seeing tutorials so it explains a lot of what happens in the game--you can't get too lost in there!

Good luck, and I'll wait on the exchange stuff to see what's up with that!
Later:
Okay, I cannot believe I spent the whole day playing that game!! (okay so Starr and I took turns! LOL)
Starr found the bike option first. She just sent them to their destination and they went on the bike. If you right click on the sim you can watch the neighborhood go by as she pedals away.
One tough part was finding a good-looking guy who was single in the game, although I did find Malcom Landgrabb==AS A TEEN! LOL One fellow looked VERY dashing in his police uniform, and she started chatting him up. One option is get to know better, and it brings up more details on the sim you're talking to. Eventually she found that the guy was in a relationship, so the man hunt began! LOL
In school, as in work, you have many options as well. There's this box that shows up, andyou get options to work hard, slack off, meet coworkers/new friends, so that one is new.
When moving in to a house with your new family; the houses you can afford are the ones that are highlighted (yeah, I used motherlode later cos the one I could actually afford was a dump! LOL), so I just scooped up my little cellphone (everyone gets one!) and chose the move option. It gave me the option to sell all furniture and move into the new house. So, with motherlode's help, I got my house by the ocean!

The ocean is such a beautiful sight! OH MY GOSH!!! They really put a LOT of detail in it. And the night scenes are to die for!
The sims themselves have clothing options, and also a 'color choice' you get when you click on the clothing. A color wheel shows up with the clothing, and you click on the piece of clothing you want to change, and then click on part of the wheel to change the color. Above the wheel is a box that has clothing samples. You pick the type-leather and fur, themes, paisley, etc...and it shows fabric samples of each so you can pick what you want the clothing to look like! The thigh high boots I raved over have laces that go up the front, and heels!!! You do the furniture in much the same way, with the color wheel, and the fabric samples!
Each sim has personality traits. I made the mistake of making mine EXACTLY like me! (LOL) I'm clumsy, so I made her clumsy--just to see what she'd do. GADS!!! And like me, she's an accident WAITING TO HAPPEN!!!! This gal tripped over the lint on the floor!!!!! You get like four/five options (think it's five-anyone??), and mine were natural chef, family oriented, artistic, clumsy=can't recall the other one. With that you get to pick your lifetime want from a list of five. All the chins in the CAS are pudgy, but you can slim them down somewhat. I'm still not sure if there's a bodyshop yet-haven't checked.

Much later: Nope! No bodyshop, but I think we can still/might be a chance, to make our own sims to share with others. If not now, then I know our creative tech gurus community wide will figure out a way to do it!
hugs and high hopes,
Skye

kaching and motherlode WORK!!

Yea, shame on the people who don't want a 500$ game, but only want to pay 50$, how cheap of them!
[That's only half a joke - add up the cost for the expansions and the new cash cow Sims shop...]

I guess you can say that's true. But for me, I really enjoyed the fact that you can visit places in 2 and go inside. It seems like they sacrificed that for a seamless neighborhood. What is the point of taking my sims places if I cannot go inside with them?

ETA: The graphics in 2 are better than 3, IMO.

Yeah, the clock does suck, it's fastest speed is laughable. I hope EA plans on fixing that, it so boring when you have a household full of Sims who all got to sleep around the same time. If this game is going to get any better it needs mods and CC quickly. Thankfully MTS2 already has some stuff.

I have been trying to play this game all afternoon. I have not had any so called system problems (except my Nvidia card is a 5700LE). Turned down the graphics a little to accommodate the card. Navigation is poor and jagged, the "time controller" (regular, fast, very fast) does not work at all, and the graphics are a poor cousin to Sims 2.
The CAS uses poser model time bodies and doesn't come close to the faces you could make in Sims 2. I have loaded this into 3 different systems (including a laptop) and all the same poor quality problems exist. I am very disappointed.

Where did you get that hair from in your avatar?

Did quoting the quoted quote have any relevance to your question other than duplicating my typo? I hope not, else I didn't get it. ;)

Anyway, the hair ist from the incredibly talented HystericalParoxysm at MTS2: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=213898

And now I have to go play Sims2, cos on my quest for the hair I found the whole House team as sims and I'm gonna have a hysterical evening with them. ;D

That's what I've been telling people for MONTHS. It's amazing how sheepish people can be. I'm reading a lot more negative reactions then positive ones, and I can't say I didn't expect that. People expected to be blown away by TS3, but they're slowly...one by one finding out that the blind faith they put in the game was misplaced. Granted, as I've said in previous posts, the game has potential. Serious potential. But the only way it'll live up to that is...

A. EA knuckles up and fixes all of the areas in the game that need immediate fixing.

B. EA does away with or revises the EULA so that the modding community can fix it themselves.

That's the part I think some people ain't gettin'. The End User License Agreement prohibits under penalty of legal action any and ALL modification of code, textures or anything else on the game. Does that mean modders won't? Hell no. But it does mean you'll have to go searching deep into the seedy recesses of the internet to find them when mods do eventually start appearing, as they'll have to be hidden. WELL hidden. And as per InSim's rules, you won't be seeing any here unless EA changes the EULA. In the end, I can't say I dislike the game. What I dislike is EA's handling of it. The way they developed it. Their entire strategy behind it's release and the distribution of CC. If they would have done things like Maxis did with TS2, it'd be a much easier pill to swallow. But as it stand now, it's a pill covered in glass. Yes, I'll totally agree that TS2 wasn't very pretty looking at the start as well. But what saddens me is the fact that while technically The Sims 3 is graphically superior then The Sims 2, all of that went into landscaping and scenery, NOT into the actual Sim game models. That's why they look so but ugly and made of Styrofoam. It's because so much graphical priority was placed on building the town, that they for some odd reason neglected to give any such treatment to the game model. And when last I checked, the game was called "The Sims", not "The Towns".

Another thing that is sorely missed is the ability to make your own towns. That's a major shot in the foot. Same thing goes with not having a bodyshop like program packaged in game. What it boils down to is that while TS3 offers you some...and I do mean SOME new advances, there aren't enough of them to warrant saying the game is anything above average. And that's what it is...average. It's not bad...but it ain't all that good either. And it won't be for a long, long time. Unless EA changes the EULA and allows open modification of the game, you'll have to wait for improvements and fixes on their time table, of which if I know anything about the gaming industry...and I do because I work in the gaming industry, isn't going to happen for a while. So to those of you who can actually see pass the faults of the game and play it with enjoyment, by all means...ENJOY IT. :D Have fun. But if you're like me, who plays the game more for the sake of building my world as opposed to on top of one that EA's forced down everyone's gullet, as well as creating life-like and dynamic looking game models...stick with old faithful, and wait out The Sims 3 for a year or two.

The game is alright. It just seems like a more advanced version of the Sims 2. I like being able to play a sim on one lot, and just transport him/her to another sims lot and enter if they are home. Once CC starts getting released and the customization begins, it will be an incredible game. I do not support that EA is charging money for CC on their website. The 1000 free points with buying the game was nice, but it still isn't right.

The game has enormous potential, there's no denying that, but those gawd awful sims spoil it.
I would like to buy the game but every picture I look at and see those dreadful things looking back at me tells me that for the time being this is as good as it gets.
No doubt in time someone will do something about that if EA lets them.

Ok, so I just made a couple and played one sim day in thier life. I think alot of this game is awesome!!! I am disappointed with the sims appearance. I can do so much more ... make much more beautiful sims with sims2. They are superior looks wise. But I did manage after alot of little tweaks to make a very attractive couple, my lil simmys were cute ... black male, white female. I want to make them have a child to see how the mixing of the skins works.
Ill have to have a day when I can dedicate more time to it to really get a feel for it. What I dont get though is how I go seamlessly from household to household Granted I have only made one household thus far, but seems as if I should be able to play households that are already in the game. Maybe there is townies, but you cant play those just the households, or just youre created households? hmmm....Im sure I am just overlooking something and when I get more time like this weekend, I can figure it out.

So you mean to tell me that is still happening in the official copy?

Where did you get that hair from in your avatar?

Did quoting the quoted quote have any relevance to your question other than duplicating my typo? I hope not, else I didn't get it. ;)

Anyway, the hair ist from the incredibly talented HystericalParoxysm at MTS2: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=213898

And now I have to go play Sims2, cos on my quest for the hair I found the whole House team as sims and I'm gonna have a hysterical evening with them. ;D

No, bb. The server was acting up. thanks.

So I got the Sims 3 today, my Mom bought it for me when I took her to the grocery, and I've spent the better part of the afternoon and night playing it. To be honest I'm still on the fence about the entire thing, I mean on the one hand I like some of the features that it has to offer while on the other hand some of the things sort of make my eye twitched. All in all it hadn't been a horrible experince playing the game, but I won't be un-installing the Sims 2 or Bloodlines to make it go faster or anything like that.

Best Feature I've Found:
The new CAS. Call me crazy but I like all of the options that it offers, being able to pick one item and then change it completely with just the few clicks of a button. Also having the new body shapes with the sliders is nice too, instead of having the same shaped sims all over the place.

Worst Feature I've Found:
It might just be me (I'm running on coffee, cigarettes, and steam at this point) but I hate the fact that I can't make the lot move the same way that I can in the sims too. Where I can just neatly guide it to the location that I want it to go to. Instead I spend much of the time hitting the rotate button trying to get it exactly where I want so that I can add something to a room or take something from a room.

Like I said all in all it isn't a totally bad experince, it doesn't make me want to jump for joy but I haven't tossed my cookies either. So I'd give it maybe a 5.5 out of 10.

I don't think even that is an option. If you are a modder, you will probably only mod for yourself, since its absolutely not worth the risk to possibly share with the wrong people.

For those (idiots  ;D ) like us, who followed TS over 1 and 2, it became clear that the first launching of the game is far from being perfect. This is the reason I think that simple users have to wait until some of the experienced so called top modders had chance to take a full look on the err bugs.
TS is unique on the fact that it is probably the biggest community having the highest number of very talented users. It is so a waste of talent when you have to tie you up to rules of "Do not Clone or Post anywhere" that in my meaning is exactly the same of the EULA rules being hard claimed.
If something has to be changed, it is the way you see the others. Everyone wishes a different thing and most of us are capable to make it happen.
People talk about ccs as if it was some kind of unavoidable evil - Wow! cc should be the main term for own customization - something that all of us deeply wish.
There's no one I suppose that buy this game just to play around with the caricatured faces of Eaxis employees and who didn't get fed up of Goopies or Brandies, not to forget the absurd of having cats and dogs named ALABAMA ( Here Alabama, go pee AAAlllaaabaama! Oh Man!)
People want to play their own life style, or something medieval, or something futurist, or some One gender World, or whatever, but something that says something to each one personly.
Of course I'm fully interested on the architectural. By reason of copyright, there's no other program that could satisfy a technical wish to build up and have some dummies to test the creations. TS lacks on correct measures but this is not a problem because it is beautiful and gives you a sense of real houses.
But as said, this same is named The Sims, not The Towns, or The Houses. So a lot of sophistication is required. Kids should be kids and Grown-ups have to play grown-ups.
Our life is basically composed of animations. We mimic full time and every of our actions are a collection of specific animations. I don't mean to add a totally insipid half EP just to make Sims to protect the eyes from the sun ( and cause my Sims to attach a garbage sack to the forehead when taking the trash out. Good Lord!
If something is too inadequate to minors, it is enough to make it discretly hidden (something like making woohoo inside a wardrobe. Oh Mammy!)
Yes, I have extremely high expectations for a Life Simulator, I want a SIMulator that makes possible to simulate my own world. It is not possible in real world to move a whole house wherever I want, but it would be very interesting if we could move those SIMulators to test what would happen in diverse positions and situations.
I want that those SIMS are able to show up reactions that imitates sort of feelings, repulse, joy or sadness, not someone that cries the death of the nearest beloved, turn around and tell a joke to the next closer.
I want that they are aware of neighbors, that they can hang over the fence and tell some news to the neighbor man or wife.
I want a dog that licks the face, a cat that sits on your lap and sleep on a bed by your side, not instead of you.

Well, I think I have to wait to TS297! Exactly like my fantasy little robot, it will fail hundreds of times.

I so agree with you!
Got the sims3 yesterday, can't play it without hacks.
First time in my life I'm not realy eager to go to play, lol.
But I'll give it a chance.
Too many things I don't like about the game.
Need a motive and a money hack,lol
Anybody knows where to find them?

Use the cheats, no hack required.
For the money there's the well known 'kaching' and 'motherlode' and for motives use testingcheatsenabled true and shift-click on the mailbox (or just drag the sims' motives individually with the mouse).
But making money the hard way ist much more fun.

Throw the mods out with no name attached and it will get passed around so much it will be hard to find out where it came from.I can't believe they would not want us to tear sims 3 apart like so many people have done with sims 2. Do you really think that sims 2 would have been so popular without all the CC and mods, all the sims forums Like this one? I don't. I would have left sims 2 on the shelf and not have purchased any of the EP's or stuff packs If it wasn't for the CC or the mods. I would have been bored with this Game along time ago. EA has to know they would stand to lose an awful lot of business if they went that route. They have to know that these sites and all the creators keep their sales up. They can't be that stupid. Can they?

I like it so far, the game diffently reminds me of Bust'n Out, has alot of the same features, change color, texture. You can change options for aging, right now my sims age at a very slow rate. One family has almost or has compleated their lifetime wish, but it doesn't change when compleated, and she is only YA! My babies take 25 to 30 days to turn in to a toddler, god thats forever! I had trips at the hospital and 2 out of 3 age in 25 days, the baby they had before; is still a baby and will age in 21 days. My YA wont age for another 150 days, god how many babies will she have before she becomes an adult!
So for all those people that don't like to age fast this is good for you!

That sounds like you have the aging set to "epic", violetlass.  There's a setting in the options to make aging go faster, right?

The game has pros and a lot of cons.
The Pros
The color wheel is fun. I could spend hours spinning and changing colors of things. Food looks like real food! There are some new interactions that were really fun, such as "announce pregnancy" when you meet your friends while out on the town. Some of the traits are fun. The great kisser trait allows you to make out like a pro and who doesn't want that kind of trait. :) I can brush my teeth now. I do like being able to seamlessly move about the town. I can see that it was a really good idea and had a lot of potential.
The Cons:
The Sims themselves, their clothing and furniture are ugly beyond belief, it was so much work making someone attractive. I am spoiled after spending years getting beautiful creations from brilliant people, I hate being stuck with EA's unimaginative and obviously male centric sense of style and design. These Sims will need to be nominated for What Not to Wear. The camera is wonky at best and drives me to drink. I feel I was promised a fuller immersion then I am really getting. Sure I can go anywhere but most of the community buildings are facades just like in Hollywood. So now instead of sitting outside of the house waiting for Sim to come home from work, I sit outside of their job. I feel like a stray dog. The needs of the Sims were not supposed to be the driving force but I still feel I spend as much time feeding and pottying rather then exploring and growing my Sim as EA stated would be the case.
As I said above this game has a lot of potential but EA has a lot of greed. I do not think they will let the CC community be this time, especially with the EA download store at launch. I firmly believe they expect to make their bread and butter on download content for this new branch in the franchise. They saw a piece of the pie they weren't getting any of and have decided to go after it aggressively. Ruining what could have been a really awesome new leg of the Sims experience. EA's creativity will never be able to match the brilliance that is out in the CC community and thus they will fail miserably by taking something that made the franchise successful and exploiting it. If that is indeed the path they are on I will be done and just live with Sims 2 until such a time when something new and shiny comes to distract my attention. If they prove me wrong and let the CCer's co-exist, the game has potential and I could even see myself looking forward to expansion packs.

What I think? It's a bunch of bull****.  (Mod note:  Please watch your language.)

EAxis is murdering all Maxis projects through their milking schemes. Who doesn't recall what Spore looked liked at a E3 Demo (Back in 2004 with Robin Williams on stage) or the others demos? It did cause quite the impact on gamers, rising a faifthul horde of Spore fans which tracked it's progress every minute (I was one of them). When EAxis started releasing more footage of it, I understood something was completely wrong. The aesthetic of Spore had been replaced by some childish cartoon graphics and the gameplay tuned to the 'Casual Gamer', leaving us with a delusional product.

The same goes for Sims 3. EAxis is unable to give us, long time fans of saga, an actual world which conglomerates all the expansions or content request. Rather than listening to what the whole community thinks, they invite these 'Creators' of websites like Sim Resources, which already have been brainwashed to write AMAZING REVIEWS ABOUT THE SIMS 3!. I hate what Sims looks like now, their textures, faces, bodies, clothes, etc. The custom texture creator will be found as a annoyance by normal players. What EAxis mentions as a 'open environment' is nothing more than a world without loading screens (And these didn't annoy me..since I would get high quality buildings made by us, community.). Even Sims 2's gameplay beats the crap outta Sims 3.

In conclusion,

Do not waste your time and money. Keep on supporting the Sims 2. Down with Money Schemes.

Me too Teren. I couldn't wait for Spore and I have played it little too none since I got it because it just wasn't what I thought it would be. Sad because they really could have had something good if only they weren't so pig headed in their ideals and listened to what we the people that buy the products think.

in short... id say...

minor improvements... (all of which have downsides...)

walking about town and stuff is good... (though because of that you cant even make your own towns anymore... nor see inside many buildings...)
the customisable furniture and clothes is pretty good too... (though it seems to be a major thorn in the side of modders)

major downfalls...

eeew... wtf happened to the faces... :S
eeew... why is there absolutely no support for modding...
eeew... lag...
eeew... low res textures... :S

looots and lots of things to complain about... though ive been enjoying the game... sort of... it does tend to crash EVERY 5  SECONDS >:/ but i dunno... theres a feel i like... but its definately no sims 2... and i doubt the mods will be there to bring it somewhere close at least... im disappointed at best...

i doubt ea will ever learn their lesson... after all... people still belive in them... and they still make money... for some reason...

A lot of people have mentioned their disgust with the extreme profiteering motive via The Sims 3 Store and rules against modding and sharing those files.

Extreme greed kills, and I think EA killed off the Sims 3 with it.

 Ok. bought the game today.
 The pros. Flawless install.
Running with all options set to high at 100Mhz at 1024x768 (Still use an old good 19'ctr monitor)
 Specs. Amd 3core, nvidia 260gtx , 2gigas ram, win xp sp3.
Running without dvd tks to image burner.(GameCopyworld oblige).
Using the Mts3 censor removal, instaled the new textures and other mods from same site, all content is showing even if need to install on root game with the cgf txt file included on the censor removal. (this 1 is a package that does not change any game file, btw)
 Everything works as expected.
 The cons:
The change of the game interface, just need to adjust to it.
The lack of custom content (But helas the game is less then a week older, lol).
With the new censorship removal, the image burner and the new body textures Sims 3 is already worth buying.

I just had a look at what our cousins at TSR. have been creating in order to get some idea of what I'll be in for if I ever get the game.
The lots are good.
The sims?? Words fail me.
If anyone cares to, check it out and do a comparison between sims 3 and sims 2.
After doing a comparison, for me the answer to this thread is obvious.

If you people keep ranting about how the game's graphics suck bad and it lags horribly when you turn the settings to max, I recommend you buy/build yourself a new computer, preferably one that handles applications of the 21st century. If you think the graphics here feels a lot like the first Sims game, it's because you've been playing that game for more than 10 years. Get a job, get a life and stop living off your parents.

If you don't like the game, so be it and don't buy it. Don't go in forums like these and post about the game being a complete waste of money. I bought the game and I like it. Not 100%, considering the missing stuff I like to be added and bugs I want removed. If you got something against my idea of liking the game, I don't really care.

Everybody here is entitled to their own opinion of the game. If what they say bothers you, don't continue reading. Keep in mind that there are people here who play these games and comment are kids. So be careful of what you say. Personally, I haven't played the game but at least there are posts of constructive criticism about the game and that always helps.  ;)

I think things will get better when mods and such start coming out. I mean I enjoyed playing Sims 1 when it first came out even though it was the base game and then expansions started entertaining me and expansions.

Same with Sims 2, which has had alot, alot of time to grow, alot of updates over the years, expansions and alot of mods.

I'm sure its the same with this game.

I bought it today anyway, despite the negative opinions.

Updates will soon come, and so on so forth.

I agree that it can get irritating when you make an "I love the sims 3!" thread and receive an influx of  "This game SUCkS!" posts, so point reasonably understood--but as out of place here in this thread as the offending aforementioned "game sucks" post is in the "love the sims 3" thread.

In a "what do you think" thread expect to find all opinions not just the ones you favor.  Your response takes aim at people who answer the question as posed.  So you have, perhaps unintentionally, burst into this thread to rant as inappropriately as the people you take issue with.

As Nikki put it:

Some people have top of the line computers and still report major suckage on the graphics. Also, you need to keep in mind that not a whole lot of people are so fortunate to have the bucks to be able to go out and have a top of the line computer built, just so they can play a computer game. That is what I think and that is my opinion. I've talked to friends that are playing the game, and I hear plenty of stories about how the stupid thing crashes, it doesn't look so great, it's difficult to manage and all of that. I'm not getting it because to me, it is not visually appealing. I'm also on a boycott against the company because of the crap they've pulled. I won't pirate the stupid thing, either. Some aspects sound interesting, but there's no way in hell that I'm gonna plunk down a chunk of money for something that needs to be modded heavily in order to work right. If I am going to spend that much money, the damn thing had best run correctly right out of the box. My money, my choice. And yes, I do happen to have a top of the line computer so that isn't what is stopping me from getting it. The company and their craptastic record of failure when it comes to listening to what their customers want plus their bloody-minded attitude that all customers are thieves are the things stopping me from getting this thing. I don't want what they have to offer and if anyone is to ask me what I think of something like this game, they're going to get the unvarnished truth. Don't like that? Then go read something else. Have a nice day.

Woo-Hoo Paden! You tell it girl! 3thumb I have the game, and the graphics look terrible, but I am blaming that on my GC, but that's not the point here. The point is that so many people have top of the line computers, and some of them have went so far to exceed all the minimum requirements, and have busted the quota with graphics and the like with custom built rigs, that would sell for thousands of dollars! So yeah, please don't come prancing in here and telling the computer savvy folks, whom do have money and DO have a job to get one or a life, because frankly you don't know any of us, so I find you comment rude and unnesscary, and like Paden if you don't LIKE what others people have to say about the game, then go read something else, or go to another forum. The fact is that the game sucks, and will never surpass TS2, unless its heavily modded and CC'ed out the ying-yang, but like I said if EA will ever get off their lazy a-- and create a patch for the game, perhaps I'll change my opinion, but for right now I don't find it in the least appealing because I am so spoilt with my TS2 CC, and plus I need some more RAM to make the game run more smoother, but the more I play, the more bored I get at seeing the same crap over and over again, and sorry EA but having 20 different things and 50 different colors for them is NOT CC, morons.. :p

Simmers for many, many moons have always worshiped EA, even though the company has let us down in so many ways for so long. Then on top of that insult, they locked down the coding to make it nigh-impossible to modify beyond just minor changes.
Do they not remember the Securom debacle that plagued the Sims 2 (and no, they did not retrofit the Sims series to not have it, even now)? Do they not remember Spore? Do they not care that EA is just in it for the money?
Tell ya what-when EA finally gets it right, they will have lost a majority of their fan base because of their inability to understand what we want-not what EA wants.
They picked a man to develop Sims 3 who did not know what the Sims was, and did not get it-and he admitted it. He did not bother to ask us what we wanted in a game, and then put together a mismatched game of mini-games and challenges-with few of the features that the Sims 2 had made so popular.
He had never played the Sims 2. It shows now. You want to play Sims 3, you're playing the game that Rod Humble thinks it should be-not what you want it to be.
If they really want us to shut up, they should at least ask us to tell them the honest truth-not ban us from saying anything negative about it-which is what they're doing-putting their fingers in their ears and saying "No, I'm not hearing this, and I don't believe you."
Which is why everyone is so loud in their posting-pro and con.
BTW, I'm convinced that some of the  "I love the Sims 3"  reviews on the Sims 3 official site are made up of people from EA who have been paid to post positive reviews, or be fired.
Don't believe it doesn't happen. When a company is that desperate for a hit, they'll do anything to promote it.

Yes I also have a top range computer, and no I am not a child, yes I too have played the sims since sims 1,as for my opinion of the game. Paden and MaryH answered that one perfectly.
As for buying computers,I don't. If you want a computer to do what you want, then you build it yourself. It's not overly hard.

Yeah, that's the only way to go. But in this time and age many people are hard pressed to fork out the money to do so. I certainly am. Wouldn't have thought that last year.

It's okay. I've been doing find with the game.

I'm a little upset that they took out the options that would allow for gay marriages (or civil unions as they are called in the sims 2)

I'm looking forward to the expansion packs. Maybe then, they'll change their mind.

i didn't realize that some of the other cheats, provided by prima guide did, in fact work, until i found a post (by papa-di) which explained that by entering "testingcheatsenabled true" (the usual way) many (haven't figured out 'shazaam' yet) of the cheats do work.
admitedly, this response is to something posted much earlier, so you may have this figured out by now.

I hate this game! EA is pulling off the biggest scam in game history. The Sims in 3 are ugly. The game play is clumsy. I can't believe those greedy b******s expect me to pay for custom content. What a waste of simoleons. I regret buying it!

IMO

And you shouldn't have to buy a new computer to play the game. Please.

You better be lucky I am new and that this is a family forum because I would have serviced you a plate of what LV is cooking. How dare you insult people because that find fault with the game. I only played sims 1 a few times and admittedly I adore 2, but I have no reason to deride this game just because. It sucks. Simple as that.

I hated it in the beguining.I created 2 different families and I don't know where they are, lol, they are no more.
But now I'm playing The Goths,I changed some stuff like the camera, the aging, people aging around,I'm using Testingcheatsenabled true and I 'm manualy handling the motive thing,I love the game now!You should see the artists playing in the park for money, people listening to them, all sorts of bodyshapes, sims are so incredible cute, they are communicating to each other autonomously, the garden thing is just beautyfull,I love the game now!!!
I hope I'll not lose my Goths, somehow I have to find out how to keep the sims I'm playing in the town, maybe it's as simple as "make a copy of the town"or so.
So I think this will be the best Sim game for me when I'll take the time to realy check out how it realy works.
Love it!

Well I must like it too... I haven't played anything else since I got this. The new default skin I picked up helped tremendously. Why on earth EA put so much effort into high-rez, changeable sim meshes yet failed to provide skins that would show off the subtlety, is beyond me.

Its buggy... in fact very buggy. Yet there's a lot to discover and enjoy. I love the career nuances, such as being "on-call" as a Doctor, or "questioning" people as a Cop. The seamless neighborhood is very cool and looks great. I can't wait for more CC to come out :)

I like the game but they're things in the game that I don't like.

Likes ;D
The Patterns. Now all the furniture and stuff can match unlike the last sim games.
Moving freely throughout the neighborhood
The traits
How you can change the voice of your sim.
the hideheadlineeffects. This hides the annoying progress bar too.
They don't complain as much as they did in sims 2.

Dislike :-X
The video capture: My graphics look great in the game and while recording but when watch the recordings in windows movie player it's all pixelled. I still don't know whats that about but I found out when I record high (uncompressed) it's fine but doing that takes up a lot of disk space.
You can't make your own neighborhood.
You can't actually go inside the venues on the community lots.
The slider. I wish my female sims didn't have such small boobs the smaller they are.
Switching to another household, I spent 20 minutes trying to figure that out. LOL.
The Social Interactions.
The hairsyles. But I hated sims 1 and 2's hairstyles too.

I'll continue to play it because it is fun but I'm sticking with Sims 2 for making movies.

I'm getting used to the different style of gameplay now, but what lets the game down for me is that I've been spoiled by all the CC and variety that we have for TS2 and I want that for TS3. Now. Immediately. :D

aside from the lack of variety, what really lets down the look of the sims, for me, is the eyes. They're so damn cartoony. Doesn't matter how good you can get a sim to look, you can't change the eyes. I hope that a way can be found to add better looking eyes.

Title: Re: The sims 3, What do you think?

I agree partially with what Ali said.  I have become so used to using CC (like the Insimenator to keep from having to do all those little things like make them sleep, eat, etc.) in Sims 2, that to start playing Sims 3 and having to worry about all that stuff again, is kinda annoying.  I hope at some point, someone decides to making something similiar to Insimenator or what not so I can have that sort of stuff again.

The more I play, the more I realize this "story progression" is nothing more than creepy asexual cloning. None of my "not currently active sims" have gotten married, had children, progressed in thier careers, had anything at all good happen to them, and the biggest let down, if you leave them and they have a birthday while you are gone, they automatically get bad traits, because, well, thier life is bad if you dont controll them.
They get depressed when I leave them and clone themselves. creepy, weird and it sucks. FIX THIS EA!!!!!!

I personally think there're some advantages and some major disandvantages in Sims 3.
Customizing tool is absolutely fabulous - you really can customize every little thing and it is awesome. No loading screen is great too, in Sims 2 going somewhere is just suicidal.
But, I've hated so many things. Community lots are crappy - big weird "tents" that you cant even go inside and see, decorate and simply control your sim in there. This no control over the sim in community lot makes the gameplay so much more empty that it already is. The Sims 2 had so much more options in community lot. And now - the only place you can actually see is this crappy absolutely empty park and the graveyard. I was most of all exited for the game to be released to have the whole town and options more accesable and what I see - those empty tents with no options at all.
Maybe it's just me, but I liked Sims 2' create a sim much more. I don't know, they all just look more likeable and unique. Body types are so dissapointing - you can just make them skinny, fat or in between. I thought you can cange bust sizes, legs, but and all those stuff. Nothing special at all. The hair customizing thing is sure awesome, but still - I can hardly imagine adding new meshes and clothing types to the ones in the game. Maybe some programm that will create new meshes for the game will be released, but I don't know. Right now seems like there's only custom sims, lots and patterns can be added.
The gameplay is empty, because of the town "buildings" there's nothing to do at all, and I'm having a really hard time understanding the sim relationships. Seriously, my sims had fallen in love but that's it. Marriage, Children - where? I've never seen the Proposal button at all.
Overall, I'm dissapointed cause I've expected a lot more possibilites and exitement in The Sims 3. I was ready to be impressed and erase Sims 2 because I thought it would be all the same but better. EA were in such a big rush to pull our money out, they didn't fulfill any of the expectations. It's a real shame, let's see how many useless addons and stuff packs they'll release for Sims 3 now - scam scam scam.

All I know is that I've NEVER seen any Sims game that has such polarized reviews on Amazon. Not Sims 2 (80% of the Amazon reviews on the original base game were four- and five-star!), and definitely not Sims 1. (Not nearly as good a sampling, but the base game alone also had 80% four- and five-star reviews, and the complete collection had about 81%.) Even Apartment Life, which was not exactly the most popular Sims 2 expansion out there, had a little more than 63% four- and five-star reviews. Sims 3 isn't even close to THAT. (The Collector's Edition, which overall has better reviews than the standard edition ... why, I don't know ... is only around 43%. The standard game is around 38%.)

It's almost like there are two entirely different versions of Sims 3 out there ... the "good" version and the "bad" version!

P. S. Good news, though, for those who are hoping the game price goes lower ... you're getting a better and better chance of grabbing this game off of EBay for still another discount. (Just as an aside ... I got all of my Sims 2 games on either EBay or super-sales. All new.) A sealed standard edition just went for $35, which is just about $5 off of Amazon's already-discounted $39.99 price. I saw another new one go for $33, but that isn't too common yet. And a new sealed Collector's Edition just went for $53. (In all fairness, though, the bids for the latter are usually a little higher. However, this auction does show that with a little bit of patience, you can get a good deal on the CE.) All include any shipping charges. And the game isn't even a month old! Now I really AM curious to see what this game goes for six months from now!

So far from what I see, people are starting to make skintones now, peggyzone has a Extremely realistic skintone..... man this game will look much better and be much fun now. I love creation and art, I like at the sims 2 and 3 as art. I'm giving this game a chance, cuz I started playing the sims back in 2003. Now that the sims 3 is out, I will find a way to make mods or hair for this to make the community happy.... I hope some folks can give this game a chance. just be on the look out for my work

I also have mixed feelings about the game right now, but I am confident that as time goes by, people will make it more and more realistic.

For me, the customization is just wonderful.  I can have anything I want match anything else.  That's something I value because for me half the fun is building and having things look good together.  I am not too thrilled at how the game looks cartoony, but I guess it will get better in time as people invent ways around it.  I was also wishing that bodies would have been more customizable, things like decreasing the size of the waist and shoulders or increasing bust size, thickness of arms and legs.  I don't like how it has just one body that gets fat or skinny, but even that is a great improvement over the old game.  I originally was not going to get the game, but now I am sold on it.

Well, well. I played the game extreme by now to test how long I would stand an original game. Uuh! I have already installed the awesome mod and something to stop the zzz when Sims are sleeping. Building is OK and I have very little to claim (really just the fact that you STILL cannot connect normal walls to walls over foundation).
4th day of play - I'm completely fed-up. Reason: something named Moodlet I think. In the beginning I thought it to be sort of short term memory but it is not this - it is a full control of the game over the player - you follow the crap or you get punished (one of my Sims started to talk to the walls and show a pink crazy head with the tongue out of the mouth). Besides those moodlets, there are also phone calls that give you tasks, one more boring than the other. It is stressing because the tasks have also day and time to accomplish, so you cannot enjoy the game at all. Besides all this, you are forced to take your Sims out of their house all the time or they become crazy for being home.
Ow, ow! I still want a Building Program with dummies to test it. Sims are already those dummies but I urge to get rid of Eaxis dummies.
I said I moved a family to a lot and played them. Yes, I am now in the third generation. The game kills all your neighbors all the time and time passing is not logical at all. You start with a hood where all the Pleasant View characters are present, but as 25 years before. I met Cornelia Goth on the streets, next time I met her she was already old and next time Gunther Goth died in front of my eyes on a park. Sims that die outside the playable family disapears forever, you don't find their ghosts on any cemetery and you cannot put their tombs on your inventory, because you don't have access to it.
Bella Bachellor was a child exactly like Mortimer but aged ten times faster than him.
You make a friend for nothing. One of my playable approached the Maid, next time he called her she was already an elder, he proposed her marriage and she died before he placed a ring on her finger.
Worst of all, I built up the house to be renewed according to the family increase. The Sims cannot choose a route that is not used by other Sim, so they crash each other all the time and at every crash they idle for a while. So, you have to build a lot of space around to avoid that they crash each other and on the end, it is exactly like in the beginning of TS2, you end-up with a big square with a roof on the top.
80% of the time you have to wait that Sims simply idle by reason of bumping on someone. Try to call everybody for meal! And me who likes to build only small homes.
The game is requiring a lot of fine tuning and on the worst - you will need to upgrade your computer by next possible EP (to upgrade mine will cost more than the computer self - graphic cards and ram cost a fortune by us).

So, in all honesty does this REALLY seem like a sims game to anyone else? I think it's more like a damn strategy simulation time trial game, which def. got old for me, given the short amount of time I did play. I mean who really wants to be controlled all the time?! I think in my opinion, if I am going to play a game, it's going to be on my time, and my rules. Nice job EA, you really screwed this generation of the sims franchise up big time!

It doesn't seem like a Sims game.

But, Sims 2 and Sims 1 were SIMULATION games. They let you play God and basically do whatever you want.

Sims 3 is an RPG, and I can only play the game how EA wants me to. It's such a turn-off for myself. Especially since I can't even make my own neighborhood. The graphics, traits, and seamless neighborhood were some nice improvements, but there are way too many drawbacks that keep me from enjoying this game.

In some ways, I think the Traits are actually more limiting than the zodiac. It's hard to explain though lol

Well, yesterday I wanted to give the game a try and kinda get used to the way it goes. I got bored after 1.5 hours, while I can play Sims 2 all day.
As it was pointed out before - there's really no connection to the previous sims games at all. Sims 2 is all about really building up a game and a "life" for your sim how do you want it and finding something new every time. Sims 3 is absolutely empty, there's only this stuff at home and "Opportunities". Bo-ring.
And btw, the life span makes no sense at all, they grow up and die like crazy o_o.

In some ways, I think the Traits are actually more limiting than the zodiac. It's hard to explain though lol

I've read this time after time. I believe that Pescado even wrote something like this. And perhaps that's the problem in a nutshell. It really does seem to me that Sims 3 is NOT the "logical successor" to Sims 2. They're separate entities, only they have a lot of the same furniture, hairstyles, etc. If someone gets this game expecting "Sims 2 Enhanced", they seem to be a lot more disappointed than those who want or expect a different game.

And I've read posts like Lira's about the more detached nature of the Sims (and gameplay in general) in the game as well. This one comes up time after time, too.

Whether all this is a good or bad thing is up to the user, I guess. But I do confess to thoroughly enjoy controlling my goofy Sims 2 pixel people. I don't like anyone else controlling them. I wonder what real-life psychiatrists and psychologists might say about this! :) Between that and my video card and computer configuration limits  (I found out that my new card, while the requirements imply that it ought to work, is actually one of the "trouble cards", so unless EA releases a patch, I might have to wait even longer than a year to consider this game ... oh, well ...), I'm afraid I will have to experience the Sims 3 vicariously for quite a while, no matter what. But that's not a problem for me, Reading about the Sims 3 is extremely fascinating. It's almost like reading about certain celebrities. Some of us try not to look at the unfolding scenario, but we can't resist for long!

By the way, I feel bad for those burned from this experience. I've been there with other games, such as the The Sims 2 for DS. (Shudders. I thought that game was dreadful, and for some reason, my copy was wonky. I got rid of that game ASAP, but at quite a loss.) I am still hoping that EA might do something to make the Sims 3 experience better, and if they do, they might be able to turn this around, but it really does look like EA learned about customer satisfaction from the Colonel Tom Parker School of Customer Service. (He was Elvis' manager, for those who might not recognize the name.)

Note: It looks like the game is $44.99 on Amazon now. What the ... what are they playing at here? Or what game is EA playing at here (no pun intended)? In the meantime, many of the standard-edition games are going for $37 and under on EBay* (the average price went up slightly since the Amazon price increase today), with free shipping.  (Opened, allegedly never-played or played once games usually go for a few dollars less. I saw one allegedly opened, but never played or registered game go for $29.)

*It's very strange ... a lot of the bids are from buyers with feedbacks of 20 or under. Many have 5 and under. Back when I bid for the Sims 2 games, I always had some VERY stiff competition from people with higher feedbacks; most with 50 or more. And the games and expansions had come out several months earlier. It's just strange, that's all. Hey, I can't fault any EBay newbies who really want the game going this route!

First of all- EA doesn't give a damn about the customers. They lied to everyone, when they told us that TS3 would run on your granny's computer! I don't know about the rest of you but my grandma doesn't have a 6000$ alien-ware just gathering dust (so to speak) I don't know, I am just really turned off by this game, and I don't think EA will ever make this game succeed like they did with TS2. I am disgusted at the overall gameplay, and I feel that if this game will ever be successful and playable, that EA would need to rewrite the whole game, It's just a sad excuse for a sims experience in my opinion. :(

P.S. Even if I DID have a nice computer that could play this game flawlessly, I still wouldn't play it ever again, because of the new hand of God that is EA.

Isn't that what people have said about TS2 when it first hit the streets world wide? That there isn't any solid game play or interesting stuff to continue playing?

Sims 3 is barely out, and it's not a month yet.

That is true. But sims 2 only had a fraction of the problems that sims 3 has.
Also the characters in sims 2 were 300% more attractive than those weird things in sims 3 and that's before the mods came out.

I dig it!  Just be patient...we can make this game work, just like we did with Sims 2.

If not we can always ship our copies back to EA headquarters in protest. :)

Take care Simmers!

Maybe you are right, but I remember myself getting a whole lot more impressed with TS2 at first when it came out. Overall, TS2 was a major upgrade from TS1 even without the expansion packs.
Even if you take TS3 as the whole new different game - ok, EA can make it different but still a little bit more exiting. I think EA was just too "pressured" with that big costy release, that they didn't take enough time to actually make it whole different but not dissapointing. There could have been some kind of improved re-release, but as usual it will come as some fatass expansion pack costing more than original game.

…HHHEERRREESSS SCOTTY!!! Did you Miss ME!!
Ahem… Anyway.

I do not have TS3 nor have I played it. As such I am not going to enter the debate.

However…

I don’t know whether this morsel of information has made it to this site yet or not, but I thought you’d all like to know that Will Wright has left Maxis… which upon reading some of these posts I would like to reiterate that maxis had nothing to do with The Sims 3, due to spore… …*mumbles under breath* a failure in itself… EA delving hand of corporate greed…
Huh, oh yes anyway… Will Wright has left Maxis along with many of the developers due the Electronic Arts strangle hold and lust for money with its disgustingly ostentatious…
Oh, Er Sorry.
Has left Maxis for dead and is now founding a think tank called ‘Stupid Fun Club’.

(I got there in the end.)

I agree, atleast in TS2 YOU could actually controll your sims, and not have to be punished for not bending to EA's rules when you don't make your sim happy within a certain time limit, I mean like for example this scenario- Sim needs to go visit 5 different neighbors because of their personality within 20 hours or something stupid. consequence- 5 of your sims friends and neighbors die unknown deaths the next day if you fail to conform! I mean stupid junk like that, really burns me up about the game. I feel I have wasted my money, but maybe there will be improvements in later EP's but albeit, dishing out another 8-1000 for another computer just to play both games on one computer, its just redicilous in my opinion. EA should have been straight up with everyone from the beginning and said something like this in their little interview with all the gaming sites, 80% of the people that buy this game, will not be able to either install, or play because of the lack of a super fast computer, oh and make sure you buy a 100$ graphics card/video card so the damn thing will even run, let along install! That's what they should have said, then there wouldn't be so many people out 50$ and pissed because they can't play the thing, but then again the greedy b------s wouldn't have banked 1.6 million copies in there first week of release would they?

I remember when I first got Sims 2, I was hooked. It was only the Base Game and I had no CC.

But Sims 3 with it's improved graphics and "improved gameplay" can't even hold my attention.

It's a shame Will Wright left. The game could have been so much better.

I think the main issue with this generation of the sims is simply the fact that we are quite spoiled with the amount of CC, that we had in TS2. I know it is for me, but then again my main irk about this game is once again the gameplay. I also totally agree with you. EA has destroyed the sims franchise, I wish MAXIS never would have sold them the franchise. (well..I mean they destroyed THIS sims franchise!) I'm sure the game will get better in a couple of years, but who really has the money to buy or upgrade a new computer to its fullest potential every 6 mo. to a year? not me.. :-[

They truly did destroy the franchise and took the game off into a new direction.

I can only hope another GameDev starts a simulation franchise soon.

As I said months ago, treat these minimum system requirements with great suspicion. EA. has toned the game down dramatically to make it somewhat playable on low spec. computers.
The full realisation of what one really requires will become obvious once the CC. and EPs. are available.
To have this game as it should be, with for eg. sims 2 like sims and playable buildings will require a pc. that is well outside the price bracket of the average gamer.

I have a high-end PC with 13.02gb of Sims 2 CC. My entire folder is 19gb large. Sims 2 runs fast even with all this. But I doubt highly that the Sims 3 can run at a decent framerate with 13.02gb of data. It's even a little sketchy when I played without any custom content. I can play games like Mass Effect and Crysis on High, but the Sims 3 is sketchy? EA has some explaining to do. lol I wouldn't dare load that game up with 13.02gb of data.

Title: Re: The sims 3, What do you think?
Post by: roerzman on June 22, 2009, 09:18:54 pm
13. gb. just increases your loading time. Frame rate is governed by how much information your cpu. has to process during game play, ie. the more sims you have active at any one time and how much detail they and their environment have.
This is where the game falls short. A great number of people will not be able to play the game once it starts to reach an acceptable level, ie.bugs and glitches ironed out, more items to interact with, more attractive and detailed sims and so on.
The game could have been great and put sims 2 to rest, however EA. chose to write something substandard that used the sims reputation just to make a quick buck.

Title: Re: The sims 3, What do you think?
Post by: Jasumi on June 23, 2009, 03:10:46 am
Well, when the game has to load a ton of custom meshes my framerate monitor (FRAPS) notifies me that the game is slower than when loading maxis content. That being said, it is normally because custom meshes have a higher poly-count and more texture detail. Catch my drift?

Precisely. What future for those 'granny pcs.' that that idiot Humble said would suffice once the cc. comes out, providing the game survives.

Mods are making everything more exiting, but unfortunately they can't add too much to the gameplay. I'm pretty much waiting for the new Sims 3 creators, this game screams for new stuff.

The game, I thought, wasn't too bad.
I like the customization options. They make the clothes look, well, not so butt-ugly. The clothes, themselves, however, are pretty bad. I like that we now have a shoe option, but the lack of any remotely cute hairstyles pretty much ruins CAS for me. I'm begging for some CC.
I'd have to say my number one pet peeve with this game is switching active households. I don't want to lose all of my Sims' wishes or whatever! I hate that!
I've been an avid Sims player since TS1, getting TS2 and almost all of its EPs (I thought the stuff packs were a load of crap), and I'd say that they didn't improve much with TS3. Will Wright should have stayed- the game would be a lot better. I just find it terribly ironic that with TS2 everyone was always complaining about Maxis, and now, we wish we could have them back...

Yeah, perhaps it will be like 2, as expansions arrive, so does new stuff. Stuff packs may show up, as well. Anyway, other creators are busy working on things, after all, the game has only been out in the US for a month or so.

EA, are freaking lazy. They are just sitting around, on there a-- waiting for Pescado, Numenor, Inge, HP amoungst alot more, to mod the hell out of the game, all the while they might release a small patch for the game in a couple of months, and there excuse will be something like "Oh well, the community did most of the work.." that's pretty pitiful.

Title: Re: The sims 3, What do you think?
Post by: Lira on July 02, 2009, 05:40:13 am
SimGirl20, I don't think EA are counting on the community to do all the work. I'm pretty sure EA wants less stuff to be done by the community, so they can charge us for every new stuff they add (Sims 3 Store, for example). TS2 stuff packs were pretty awful, the community has made tons of better and pretty outstanding stuff for free, so the stuff packs were not that big of success. I'm pretty sure free awesome creations are kind of standing on EA's way of getting cash from us for their craptastic stuff.
Maybe I'm being too much of a hater, but well, with all the EA's greedyness this is the least I can say.

Title: Re: The sims 3, What do you think?
Post by: SimGirl20 on July 02, 2009, 01:02:36 pm
Well Lira, I would say you have a lot to learn then, because EA does not give a damn about anyone in the sims community, and if you think that they are really studying bringing out a patch anytime soon then you are sadly mistaken my dear.

Title: Re: The sims 3, What do you think?
Post by: Paden on July 02, 2009, 03:53:28 pm
EA counts on the modders to make their foul ups better, or doesn't anyone remember them screwing up and then sending people over to MATY to get Pescado's fix?? Hmmmmm? That's right, kids, they sent people over to him to get their damn game fixed and never did work out a proper patch. I doubt they will for this craptastic game, to be honest.

Title: Re: The sims 3, What do you think?
Post by: MaryH on July 02, 2009, 05:41:40 pm
That's because EA knows Pescado can do code better than any one of their staff, and he can do it blind drunk.
Of course they don't care about the community when there's so much money to be made. It's all they think about, and the next EP.

"Crashes? Don't care. Freezes? What did you expect? You say you want a patch? Are you kidding? We're not making enough money to justify spending money on people fixing our own mistakes!"

And finally, this last great statement (that hasn't been made, but ought to be) "Sorry, it's not my job."

"Have a nice day and Happy Simming!"

SimGirl20, you're not taking this personally, right?
We can wonder and well, stick to TS2 untill something new and maybe actually good will be released for TS3. The only thing sad - the sims are going to stay butt ugly in the Create a Family and the community lots will probably stay as boring and empty tents.

No, actually to be quite frank, I don't give a damn about the game. I am just disgusted that I made a bust of 55$ on a game I can't even play. I am more amused and entertained by TS2 to tell you the truth. The Sims 2 has more options for gameplay then this empty shell, that everyone is so nuts over that is TS3 will EVER have. I actually like to have realistic people, in a realistic world if I am going to play a simulation game. I'm not trying to bully you or anything Lira, but you and the rest of the other mindless sheep out there, open your eyes, EA does not care about you or your poor gameplay. All they care about is there latest investment. Sorry, but I am just sick of all these kids, I have seen on numerous forums, (especially the OS) *eye twitch* whining and saying, stuff like "Leave EA alone, its not there fault, its your custom built, gaming computer decked out so nice you might as well had bought a house, with the money you spent!" crap like that, I mean who does EA think there fooling? I am going to say this and I'll leave it at that, EA is not your friend, there a money hungry and powerful gaming corporation. They do NOT care. I think Paden and MaryH said it better, than I ever could but do enjoy your game all the same. ;)

As an avid sims player all I can say is that I am bitterly disappointed an angry that EA. have come up with this load of garbage as the future sims.
They had a marvelous foundation to work on and had the opportunity to create something really outstanding. There was nothing stopping them using the sims 2 and incorporating them into the new game engine and even tweaking them to be even more lifelike, no doubt it would have increased the pc. requirements, but what the heck you can't hang on to the old Pentiums for ever.
To quote Pescado "the shock the horror" pretty well sums it up for me. In my opinion Humble and his cronies should be publicly flogged for destroying one of the most popular games ever.
I check MTS2 and TSR. reguarely to see if the figures are improving and to find something encouraging or positive about the game. What I see are very strange and ugly sims and mostly complaints and requests for help to fix another crash.
This is why I never preorder a game or line up on release day. Here in Australia you don't get much change from a hundred dollars for the latest releases and I can use that money for better things than a very expensive drinks coaster.
It will be interesting just how many issues this very expensive patch (the first EP.) for this abomination resolves.

I agree with you 100% roerzman. Another thing, that makes me just sick to my stomach is the fake reviews the game is getting, for an example if you check the games wikipedia on reception it quotes that the game got realitively "favourable" reviews such as 9-10 and the best sims game EVERR!! I mean just how brainwashed can one person be over the sims? I understand its supposed to be a whole new generation of the sims, but EA just did not follow through, I'm not sure if its because of the poor economy, or what but they def. dropped the ball  on this one, as I have heard so many say. 1headwall

Simgirl its not only in games this happens... Its happening everywhere. But in my case whatever was written on Sims 3 I would have bought it anyway because of the good memories of nr 1 and 2. But nr 4 or expansions I prolly wont buy depending what i will read on forums.

Look what is happening with the banks, house and stockmarkets... jobs....
About 1 year ago those 'specialists' were still saying all was going well blah blah and more blah blah. Even those who are supposed to check the banks (moody and co) didn't know #$&^$* what was happening. And that is supposed to be 'serious' business not gaming... And now politicians need to fix it. We are DOOMED  ;D

I trust none: magazines - advisors etc... etc...  I learned it the hard way.

Title: Re: The sims 3, What do you think?

The sims 3 was supposed to be a progression from the sims 2, unfortunately it's the exact opposite. With the exception of facial expressions and a free ranging environment it's a radical step backwards.
As said, the simming community created almost photo realistic sims and there was nothing stopping EA. from incorporating that technology into their next generation of sims.
However because of some unknown internal stupidity they chose to come up with the childish shite that passes for sims in what's supposed to be progress.
To sacrifice quality just so that a game can be played on some old hand me down Pentium would have to be the dumbest marketing strategy I have ever come across. Sure, initially the sales will be good, that is until the realisation sets in that it's actually junk and no amount of modding is going make it comparable to the sims 2.
I've seen the new skins at MTS 2. but it still doesn't change just how ugly they look. ( it's the body and face shapes)
So here's a challenge for EA. Scrap this garbage, utilise all the good things that the simming community has created,to hell with the sims store and pc. requirements, and reconstruct the game as to the expectations of the sims community. If it requires a larger pc. to run it than so be it.

Title: Re: The sims 3, What do you think?
Post by: MaryH on July 06, 2009, 06:15:39 am
The problem is that EA and it's developers, marketers and executives have never once been in the "community" to see what we want. They assume they know what we want, and work around a false assumption on computer use and game style using knowledge they don't have, or want.
They also brought in people who have never played the damned game, and they set those people to work on a game they have no idea about.
Let's be honest-they canned the original studio that developed Sims 2, and made a new one for Sims 3, using none of the previous ideas or coding from that game to make the newest. They're working from a blank tablet, so to speak and erased whatever was left on the chalkboard.
It shows in the game. It's a utter piece of empty garbage. The sooner players realize this, and start protesting it, the better.
But no, they want more EP's with more bad coding and gameplay, in false hopes that it will improve the game.
It won't. It will only make a bad game even worse.
The latest development that I've read is that the framerate of the game is excessively high due to the fact that there is no Vsync in the game at all.
That is totally unacceptable to me. I would rather throw my computer out the door than burn it up playing a game. For EA to have ignored a basic game engine to make Sims 3 "seamless" is beyond stupidity.
This isn't a jet engine, and computers cannot run at high speed frame rates endlessly until they melt down, which is what will happen if one does not take care to correct the problem.
So players of the game can keep playing, oohing and ahhing. When their computers finally croak, then they can cry all they want at EA for having done this to them.
As I stated before: Caveat Emptor. Let the buyer beware.
It worked for me.

This is Humbles pet project, so far he's had 198 failures out of 200 and is vainly hoping for a success.
You're pretty much on to it MaryH, I like to compare this farce to the story of the Emperors new clothes, it's only a question of time before even the most ardent sims 3 players realise that the game is a crock and all the CC. that the community throws at it will still leave it pig ugly and probably make the ill written tripe crash more frequently.

I'm ... still ... waiting ...

I'm still not buying this game for several months, and until I see the following:

1. A used game in great condition goes for under $25 US. I got the Sims 2 on EBay for $29 in 2006, and that was new ... AND I knew I could play it. The $25 may not be as far-fetched as it sounds ... I recently saw a used Sims 3 game by a reputable seller sell for $30 with shipping and handling ... and the game is only a month old. A 40% discount? NOW we're getting "warmer". While game site reviews and even Amazon reviews are interesting, I find that the ongoing price range of used and new Sims 3 games on EBay even more fascinating, and much more revealing. OK, OK ... many reviewers and players seem to like it. That's nice. But just how many? And what is the price that less "committed" Sims fans think it's worth ... really?

The price range has gone down a few dollars since even a couple of weeks ago. You can often now get a new game from a reputable seller (at least more than 20 reviews!) for $32 to $37 with shipping if you're patient and bid wisely. The range was $35 to $40 back in late June.

2. On a related note, I want to be SURE the alleged graphics problem with certain ATI 4000-series cards (and I believe the GEForce 200-series cards, though I'm not sure) is fixed. I heard that certain players with these cards experienced distorted graphics, and since EA hasn't officially listed either card as a supported card (they were both rather new at the time EA was developing the game, I guess), even spending $19.99 for a coaster is too much.

3. I want to be able to get a separate hard drive for the game. My current one is loaded enough, and I don't want to uninstall Sims 2 to make room for a game that isn't really that similar to it in most aspects. While portable hard drives aren't too expensive, my budget, unfortunately, is limited.

4. I want to make sure that story progression bit is FINALLY fixed. Officially.

5. I want to get excited about Sims 3 like I did with Sims 2. I first became interested in Sims 2 after playing Sims 1 on the Game Cube. I couldn't wait for Sims 2 to come in the mail, and I played it for hours at a time for two months before I even realized that custom content existed! I won't be as excited the same way, of course. I was such a newbie then. But I want to find myself waiting impatiently for the mail, at least! So far, even after reading favorable reviews (even I admit that the game isn't all bad, and actually has some interesting features about it that might warrant buying the game used one day, perhaps), I'm not nearly as gung-ho about Sims 3 than I was with Sims 2.

So yes, I'm waiting. But I can wait some more. And more. Next year will be just fine, if I want the game by then. :)

My friend and I have been waiting a year and a half for this game to come out and we're gravely disappointed. It's so true that the sims creators invested too much time in creating the neighborhood and spent less time fixing their crappy sims! For God sake they look like mush! I'm not interested in playing as much as I was in playing the sims2. As we read the feedbacks we noticed there was more negativity regarding the game function and story progression. SOOO TRUE! How are you suppose to do a story if you cant leave your sim unattended? You go visit one family and come back to yours and theirs a zoo full of babies without you saying DONT TOUCH ME!!! It's like an episode of Maury Povich without having to travel. Who the hell is the baby daddy?!! We don't know cause I wasn't there to control my sim's bodily function! Oh, another thing! what the hell happen to the engagement and wedding ring? We're starting to wonder if EA is even paying attention or considering our feedbacks. I understand they were TRYING to give sims more of a personality but why take away all the other things that actually made the game fun? I feel sorry for all of those talented people who come up with mods and hacks for TS2 that are having difficulty sharing their talent for TS3. If it was me, I wouldn't even bother trying to reconfigure and just keep modifying TS2. EA if you're reading these feedbacks take a hint!

I haven't played it yet...because I don't have it. But from what i hear it's good, and bad. Idk what ea was thinking. But right now i'm getting my laptop fixed..i broke the hardrive, computer fan, backspace button and other things. But i have all the sims 2 games except the last 3 i recently bought. Sims 2 AP, Sims 2 Pets, and Sims 2 freetime. So I might get the sims 3 and put it on my sisters laptop..but I can see a huge plunge in sims 3 sells in the future.

Ouch! Broke the laptop, bummer. I like the game. True, it is not like Sims2, but then I didn't expect it to be. It is a move in a different direction. It is pretty basic right now, as were it's predecessors one and two, but I am sure that in time expansions will come along as they did for the previous games. Already mods are cropping up all over the place that improve the game's appearance and play. We all need to remember that, writing actual AI code is a different bag than writing mod code. It is incredibly complex and, by it's nature, more difficult and time-consuming, usually requiring the talents of many specialists working together on a team to produce the product. This is true in other businesses, as well. One group writes the base system while others create application mods to improve the performance. We'll just have to be patient. As to the cost? It is relatively cheap - recruiting and retaining that sort of talent is not cheap.

Would be nice if EA actually read what we had to say. Game could have been alot better.

The omission of the wedding ring and other articles are no oversight.
In order to get the system requirements way below that of what one would expect from a 2009 era game, certain sacrifices had to be made.
Once one installs the game then the omissions and limitations become obvious,eg. rabithole buildings, bland looking sims, and other items that we were used to interacting with in previous games.
In order to sell this thing the majority of the games resource requirements were diverted to making the environment as attractive as possible. What's the point of lovely sunsets, pretty trees and nice looking buildings if the characters are unattractive and most of the buildings can't be interacted with?
As for not listening to the sims community. They know dam well what we want, but to give us what we would expect from a game such as this would blow their minimum system requirements out. This will be made obvious when those with borderline pcs. try to install and play the first EP.

As for the patch that appears to address very little. That was only written to make it look so that they appear to be doing something.
Rest assured, all their resources and emphasis is now with the release of their first EP. So prepare yourselves for another round sneak previews, screenshots and interviews about what a wonderful simming experience awaits us.
Those of you that got your fingers burned with the base game, prepare yourselves because you're gonna get burned again. Just remember they're s lot smarter than you, they've made an art out selling ice to Eskimos, so the average simmer is child's play.

Ha! Yeah, they're all up against major corporations. EA has turned selling crap into an art-form. I still remember the Need for Speed series that got cut. Me and my $100 steering wheel and pedals set will never forgive them lol

I can only hope another people simulation franchise comes soon enough. EA has become overly-capitalistic over the years....

Not over capitalistic, just full of idiots. Rod Humble. "I PLAY THE SIMS" what a load of ----. As if he has the time.
He's trying to copy and cash in what Will Wright started all those years ago and eventually call it his own.
The fool didn't have the vision to improve on the original concept and make something really revolutionary, instead he went for the mass market and to hell with how it's received and plays, just get the sales figures up there.
I don't think the twit realises that people are constantly upgrading their pcs. and if the game requires mid to high specs to run it, then so be it, IT WILL SELL.
I and probably many others like me would have had no hesitation buying the thing if it had been written properly and was a true continuation of the sims 2. not some childish marketing scheme to coincide with their desire to cash in on the after market CC.creation.
As for those who thought that this was a true upgrade of the sims, I feel for them. I can well understand their horror  when they eventually got the thing to run found that they had taken for a ride and what they have is junk and the more CC. one throws into it to improve it the more it crashes.
Those of us that are still sitting on the fence can only hope that EA. comes to its sences and release a true upgrade and discontinues this childish s---.

They're gonna be sitting on the fence for a LONG, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time. There's no real way EA's gonna knuckle up and do that, because that would involve them taking one in the face in that the concept behind TS3 was flawed from the jump. And if I know business (and I do) they're not. That'd be like "Big Tobacco" coming out and actually saying "Yes, Cigarettes kill people, but we're gonna keep making them anyway." As I've said in numerous posts, the game has potential. In the hands of the hardcore coders, the game can be pulled apart at a "cellular" level and rebuilt into something off the charts. The problem is that EA is not and WILL not allow for modders to splice this game like they did TS2, which is the ultimate bain to the existence of TS3. Yes, all of the EPs and SPs and bells and whistles EA gave us throughout the lifespand of TS2 was awesome, but what made the game phenomenal was the user made/modded content. The stuff people made that EA didn't have the stones to make. Of course the skilled coder CAN crack the closed source code of TS3 no problem. Distributing what the end result is would be, because it'd be a violation of the EULA of TS3, and hence illegal. Thus I doubt no coders will ever even try to. The "tools" I see popping up on the net for TS3, like the many available on MTS are all nice and all, but they're like shallow little widgets for the game because no one can release an outright MODDING TOOL for it on the level of a SimPE or a Milkshape. That's where TS3 will ultimately feel the pain. There are plenty of parts of the game that are well done, but they fail by comparison to the parts that seem rushed, incomplete and uninspired. And it'll take years and a number of EPs, SPs and patches to even make the game look and play like something worth it's price tag. As it stands now, it's a game that should have been sold at a $39.99 price point and not the near $60.00 it retails for in some places.

In summary, I don't dislike the game, but I'm certainly not supporting it either.

I feel as though EA knows exactly what they're doing, and it comes off as idiocy because they seem to be defying common sense. What you say is true, we constantly see new threads going up about people needing a new CPU or more RAM to run a new expansion pack. But if EA could lower the standards, then even the granny PCs can run the game at low resolutions. And I think that's EA's biggest problem. The payoff : effort ratio is way off. They'd rather be safe and make sure all their money is doubled than try something new which may not sell as well. Hence, why Sims 3 looks so eerily similar to Sims 2.

People will still buy Sims 3 because they hope it will improve with EPs/Sps, or they've become bored with Sims 2. And it's not just Sims 3, but the Madden games, too. lol All that ever changes is the roster in those games since EA has been fooling with them, and people still buy it. EA has a knack for ruining franchises.

Title: Re: The sims 3, What do you think?

There hasn't been any real innovation in the Madden series since the jump from the PSOne to the PS2/XBox. That's kinda sad. The same can be said of the Need For Speed (NFS) Franchise. Both are among EA's top three titles along with The Sims franchise. And both within recent years have gotten worse. This year's Madden game is going to have features in it they should have put in the game back on Madder 2007. And let's not get into the NFS games. The last noteworthy NFS game to ever be released was NFS Underground 2 WAAAAAAAAAAY back in 2004. Every one of them since has been more crappy then the next, with the last one NFS Undercover being an utter failure. This makes me very fearful of what's in store for TS3, considering that EA Blackbox, the Development house responsible for the slow, agonizing death the NFS series is suffering are responsible for the development of TS3 along side of EA Redwood Shores. Anything Blackbox touches turns into a turd. So if the trend continues, we might be in for a long next couple of years in Sims 3 Land. They truthfully need to rustle up all the remaining Maxis developers still with them that didn't jump ship when Will Wright bolted for the door, hand the franchise to them and say "You guys at least know what you're doing. Fix this...please?"

Wishful thinking at the very least...

Title: Re: The sims 3, What do you think?

I think there are enough dedicated sims players out there who would have done whatever to upgrade their existing pcs. to run the game if it was produced the way it was supposed to be produced. A true upgrade from sims 2, more detailed and realistic figures, ability to fully interact with the environment and buildings, propper story line.
To release something like this in order to make a quick buck leaves no winners in the long run.
The company flogging the crap looses credibility. A lot of the people who purchased said crap will not come back a second time. And so the sims will eventually die out.
They should have delayed the release for another 12 to 18 months and produced something that everyone was expecting, a genuine sims upgrade.

The whole thing was put together in a hell of a hurry to generate some quick cash. The five month delay was to enable a joint release for windows and mac, not to iron out any glitches.
As I said I feel for those that were hanging out for this with high expectations, only to find out after finally installing the crap that they've been well and truly had.

Yes, it is a shame Roerzman.

To think about all the truly amazing new features the game could have had--as you mentioned interaction with the environment, different heights, deeper personality, a more realistic setting. Would love to have some urban locales or even a city-suburb. Even a train-station or metro station would have been good.

Heck, we can't even make our own neighborhood, or even enter community lots.

I absolutely feel the game was rushed. And if it wasn't, there is seriously no creativity coming out of EA Blackbox.

Just the same old same old.....

Just checked the polls at MTS2 and approx 65.4% are in favour of the game.
It looks like those of us who can see this scam for what it really is are very much in the minority. Which is sad because EA. will be very aware of these polls and use these results to justify feeding the community more of the same garbage.

Or, it's possible people are simply enjoying the game for what it is. Not everyone who bought the game feels ripped off or like their fingers have been burned, as you've stated a few times. Everyone has differing opinions and likes different things. :) One person's trash is another person's treasure.

I can agree with that. Let's just let them enjoy what they like, even if we aren't in that group. Plenty of room for diversity. Some folks like the different feel of it and that's all well and good. It really doesn't detract from the game we like, although I wish some of the stuff and interactions I've heard about could have been slipped into it. I'd love to see Mrs. Crumplebottom happy, just once, when she isn't bashing someone with her purse or getting snockered in a bar.

my opinion:

Pros: So far, this game has took A LOT of steps back from the sims 2 and whoever said it's more like the Sims 1.5 is right. There are many things I love about this game like the free roam environment, no loading screens, ect. I like that you can visit other sims houses and vice versa, designing clothes and furniture, and the fact that sims can actually be fat and not that beer belly crap and slightly wider hips they had on the sims 2

cons: THEY TONED DOWN THE DEBUG MODE!!!! lol that was my biggest problem, I miss having the absolute control that "tetingcheatsenabled true" gave me in the Sims 2 I cannot wait for somebody to make an insimenator/sim blender for this game. The Familyfunds cheat doesn't work until you move the the family into their house(which makes it useless becuase I only use that cheat so my sims can move into expensive houses when I don't feel like building) The face options suck, there's no bodyshop, and I'm still not getting the hang of this new custom content method. I've downloaded like 4 mods and so far I've only gotten 1 to work

There are many things I like, one thing is pi**in me off big time:  that damned EA Installer

I have installed patterns, the installer says they were installed, and I cant find them in game.  It says paint or theme so I look in there and nothing that I installed.  Nothing in any other section.  wtf?  At least with the S2 you knew if something was in game or not.  This bloody EA Installer is a piece of crap.

Admin note: Language corrected.

Yeah, Aquarius. Also the "freerealestate" cheat only works after the sim has moved into their first house. For the initial move, you still have to have the simoleans. I've been able to use freerealestate with split family, though. The furnished option and sometimes the unfurnished will still show as red, but the sim moves anyway and their cash stash is not diminished.

I agree with you to an extent. This game appears to perform considerably better, thanks to free site creators who busted their butts to make things happen. However, like you, I too am concerned that EA might interpret the response of many who bought the game early as "Hey, we can do anything we want ... someone will clean up the mess for nothing", and will do squat to raise the bar in future expansions. That is why I am still of the group that proposes waiting before getting Sims 3 ... at least a few months. (Besides, I'm also cheap, and the price of this game is getting lower and lower on EBay. Should I ever want to buy it, maybe I can get it used for $19.99 soon! :) ) If we want EA to listen to gamers who want EA to get off the stick (IMO) and improve this game on EA's end before releasing it, the way to hit EA is in the pocketbook. Period. EA won't listen any other way. Complaints won't work.

But really, people are going make up their own minds and make their own decisions. And to brutally honest, there are far more pressing matters that preoccupy my time right now. I find the matter more curious than stressful ... a diversion from my real-life concerns.

As for us being in the minority ... we aren't as small or insignificant as it appears. This game will sell... fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your outlook. The game does appeal to many people. But if you look at Amazon, the reviews are still very mixed, at best. And that constant price drop on EBay is really telling, I believe, as well as the most recent Amazon price drops. (If you play your cards right and wait for the right time, you can get the game for $10 or more off the original price for either version. But the drops are temporary.) Many people really like this game, many truly loathe it, and many are still waiting to get it for whatever reason.

One can also interpret the poll this way: EA might very well have lost about 35% of its loyal customer base for the time being. Can any company be supremely confident that losing 35% of its regular customers won't hurt it?

Could you direct me to the MTS link with the poll, please? I'm curious to see something. This Sims 3 reaction on both sides is really fascinating to study! One can almost do a "thesis" on it! Also, for any of you playing Sims 1, did Sims 2 get the same polarized reaction? I was rather late to the Sims 2 party (2006), so I didn't read the initial reactions to Sims 2.

At the risk of being told to leave sims 3 players enjoy their game again.
EA. appears to be less than comfortable with the success of this game so they are keeping their options open. This has been made obvious by their advertised release of another EP. for sims 2.
The initial release of sims 2 was a logical evolution of the game and as far as I know was wholeheartedly accepted by the sims community and did not polarise the community.
The reason why this game is so radically different is that Rod Humble is trying to make the game his own and as far removed from the original MAXIS idea as possible.
EA. should have bit bullet and taken the extra 12 months to refine the game and release it in its entirety, ie. the ability to interact with more objects and buildings.
They chose instead to release a poor imitation of the game just to allow people to be able to play it on low end pcs and enhance initial sales. These same people will feel ripped off when the EPs. start arriving as well as the CC. because I fear it will take more than extra ram. or graphics card upgrade to make future games playable.
The major gripes with the game at the moment appear to be with the lack of help from AE, random crashes, difficulty in installing CC.the freaky appearance of the sims, rabbit-hole buildings, inability to create community lots, inability to play more than one family, omission of body shop, and some other minor ones.
No doubt most of these issues will be addressed in the near future but at the cost of computing power, Yep, a new pc. not an upgrade.Hence the terms, been had, ripped off, and con, as people who are currently playing it on marginal pcs.will discover by the end of the year.
EA. should have been honest with their minimum requirements, and said, "This is what you can just play the base game on, but this is what we recomend"

lol They definitely lost me as a fan. I bought all of the Sims 2 EPs, but the Sims 3 is nothing special. I don't think I'll ever buy another Sims game from EA again, unless it really impresses me.

For as long as it is human nature to flock to something new and shiny, the Sims 3 will remain popular.

Actually, now that there are better skintones, hair, eyes out there, and more of a variety of sliders, I have to confess that the Sims look a lot better.

Yes. I actually wrote something nice about the Sims 3. :)

I think that for me, I'm used to changing templates around to my taste, using custom facial templates from creators such as Oepu, Nailati, Pooklet and many more. Using such a wide range of template replacements gives me gorgeous Sims ... or not-so-gorgeous, if I choose. Hopefully, someone will find a way to further fritz around with the facial templates themselves ... not just the sliders. I don't doubt that won't happen.
