I don't know about Sims 3 but I think that's how it is for Sims 2.

I upload sims to the exchange a lot and I hate the stupid looks they get on their faces sometimes but you can't choose their expression. Which is why I would love to be able to upload them with screenshots. I have only seen a hand full of people upload sims the way I have posted earlier so there must be some hidden secret.
