Title: Brrr It's COLD!!
Post by: Chaavik on December 26, 2009, 07:12:53 pm
The area I lived in got hit with freezing temperatures, snow, sleet, rain and ice starting Thursday (day before Christmas). We're still getting snow on and off.

These are the pics I took and had my partner upload them from her computer. Then I converted them and uploaded them to my account to share with you guys what Mother Nature and Father Winter had in store for us:

Pointing to about 3-4 feet of snow

We managed to get our aqua-colored (blue) car into the parking lot where there's less snow to worry about.

The last Decembers, the snow has been more or less absent - at least around the 24th and 25th. But this year it has been snowing like crazy. It was already 15-20 cm of snow on the ground (before the roads were plowed, of course), and just this evening another 15-20 cm has been added to it, since there was a mild snow storm earlier. Not sure if it is still going on, though. But I'm not at all surprised if there's half a meter of snow, or maybe even more, tomorrow...
I'm almost wondering if we're approaching another ice age...  :-\

Maybe but this year has been fairly wet this in this area. We live out in the Plains between the Rocky Mountain range and Mississippi River where we usually have windy weather on top of what Denver send us. They get snow, we get snow. They get wind, we get wind.

The cold weather and this much snow arrived in the middle of winter, but we'll see how long this last. Usually the snow and all this muck will be gone in a week. I admit I was hoping for a cold winter very much like what I had as a kid with near zero temperatures and tons of snow. Just once is fine with me. Heh!

What part of the country do you live in?

As for the ice age? Who knows? I tend to read news about the climate, weather and other things that contribute to the way the world changes by climate and temperature.

I'm originally from, Pittsburgh, and I don't miss it one iota.

If I want to see snow, all I have to do is, step outside and look at the mountains. That's good enough for me.

I'm twenty miles east of the Big Muddy over in Illinois, originally from Iowa, so I'm used to some winters being nothing much and then others being like something a woolly mammoth would feel at home in. I will say, though, the older I get, the less I seem able to tolerate the cold and heat. Some of that is the thyroid disease, some of it is just preferring to stay indoors where I control the climate. I'm odd that way. ;D

Not odd at all Paden.  At least not as far as that goes.  Each time I've moved, I've moved further south.  Started in northern Illinois, then Des Moines, Iowa (ok, not really that far south), then Kansas City, and now Nashville, TN.  Since Des Moines, less cold, less snow, shorter winters, and a chance of 70 degree weather in February.

We've had only a little dusting of snow this year. Christmas started out foggy as heck and then cleared up to sunshine. I'm not complaining, considering the dumping we got last year (which lasted well into March of this year).

Oh, and shouldn't this be in the General Discussion area instead of General Sims discussion? (Since this doesn't have anything to do with sims?)

Hah! Snow! I want snow! You're lucky, girly -- the only thing we've had lately is thunderstorms. We got about an inch of snow the other day, but that's it. By this time each year, we're usually buried under a foot or two of snow.

...and it probably should be in the General Discussion area. But, I'll let Chaavik move her own thread. Lazy Jenna is lazy. :P

We got a bit of snow the other day, in the area around Detroit-ish, but now it's been melted away by rain...boohoo... I love snow I can't wait for mire, usually there is a little bit by now!

It snowed here on the Virginia Coast a tiny bit. To the point that it was melted everywhere except for the roofs. At least, it was when I woke up at 9:30 after sleeping in.
Ahh well, still hoping for more.  :p
Chaavik, you have more snow in 1 square foot than I've seen the entire time I've lived here, (2 Years)  :D

Blame it on my eyes.. Thought it was in General Discussion. *Drags the thread over there*

It finally stopped snowing this afternoon. The sun came out.... Hisssssss... Too bright!! That's the one thing I don't like about snow.. When the sun comes out, the snow's brightness blinds me and everybody else.

I haven't seen this much snow in years. :D

Yeah, snow blindness is really annoying. When I went snowboarding last year (we went to a Ski place in the center of Virginia, with snow!  ;D) and I decided not to wear my goggles while snowboarding. Haha, I was blind for like 5 minutes when I got back to the snowboard rental place. Everything was so dark!  :p

I hate snowblindness, the worst is after snowboarding (or skiing) you take off your goggles and BAM all the sudden there is this super bright snow! It burns. Lol.

Hahaha. Oh yes, how I love snow glare...especially when you're driving down a slick asphalt road with the sun directly in your eyes.

That's always fun too. Oh and even better about snow, when your dad is driving home, slightly buzzed (no help from your fully drunken brothers) and thinks it'd be really funny to do a fishtail around a very sharp pointed corner, not knowing if anyone's on the other side. Fun, very.

^Joining such notable winners as....um...I don't know....

Anyway, after 13 inches of snow (that melted in a day due to rain), it's snowing again.

Right now, it's bright and sunny and blinding if you open the curtain. Keep it shut, the light burns!! Buuuuuuuuuuurns, I tell you! *hides under the bed covers*

I'm so jealous of you all in the cold. I put my one long sleeve on today in anticipation for a cold day, and I'm really regretting it. Should have gone with my Aloha shirt since I won't be at work tomorrow for Aloha Friday. Sigh. But that'll show y'all for not spending New Years down here in Florida...

*feeds the furball a vat of her special chili*

Sparky is going to get what's coming to him for daring to tease us about the warm weather in Flordia. Muwahahaha.

...now, if you don't mind, I'm off to hibernate some more. We have a lovely arctic front moving in!

SNOW! When it warm up here we might get more. Laws of nature dictate that it really dosen't snow much with a daytime high of -25 to -30 c (-13 to -22 f). Just waiting for the temperatures to drop in january ;D

Oh, HUSH, you! :D Seriously, kids, my toes are freezing and if the deal works out, we're gonna be out of this mouse-infested hole in a month or two, and hopefully into a place with decent insulation and no leaks in the roof!

Title: Re: Brrr It's COLD!!

Even more snow today... and at least -5 c all day (probably even colder now, since it is night).

Not at all looking forward to drive back to my apartment in the weekend (probably 4 hours on the road, with ice and snow, plus the fact that the weather report said it would snow even more). I'm happy I'm not the one who is driving...

At the moment the only things in the sky are fireworks, since 2010 just started... (happy new year, by the way ;))

More power to y'all! I couldn't stand being cold like that! It's the very reason why when my boyfriend told me he was going to Boston to work, I told him don't forget to call me every once in a while. I'll stick to my Florida weather, thank you!

*points and laughs at everyone*

We're getting temps in the negatives right now. So yes, it is colder than a witch's perky point! :P Right now, it's about -1 F with the wind chill factor, and I'm NOT home. Grrrr, my partner calls up her sister this afternoon and tells her we're going over there. I didn't find out until I got my coat on to go out to check the mail and meet her up in our car to go out to dinner. I wasn't planning to go to a party. I hate parties. They're boring after going to lots of them in my younger years.

We're expecting MOAR snow! In Soviet Russia, snow runs YOU!!

Oh, Happy New Year!!

Psst, did anyone find Squinge drunk out on the street somewhere in the east yet? :D

Aaand we still have the snow from last week. The heat wave was minor, went up one degree..

I'm down here in the south coast of Texas, and we're going through a cold wave right now. It's supposed to drop below freezing tonight, and, if we get any percipitation, there's a possiblity of no school tomorrow since the roads will be icy. And the fact that there's a high of 35 degrees tomorrow won't help driving conditions either. :-\ If only Texas got cold waves like this during late summer, that'd be a helluva lot better for marching season!

We've had snow through last night and a bit today, now the wind is picking up and they have a winter weather advisory out until Friday morning. As it is, my husband got stuck in a drift when he was pulling into the driveway at work, so needless to say, he might not be able to make it home. He was telling me that there were near white-out conditions on the way to work and if this is going to keep up through the night tonight and the day tomorrow, I'd rather have him camped out on the boss's couch than try to make it home!

We're still getting cold temps. Right now, it is 5:39 AM and the temp is 1 degree F without the wind chill factor. And we have wind outside.. So it's bitter cold out there right now. I would've been more involved with winter sports if I didn't live in areas with warmer temps. Who wants to ski down a grassy hill? :P

I keep telling my partner (who lived here all her life in the KC area) that it is how winter is supposed to feel with negative temps, lots of snow and bitter winds. That's my kind of winter.

Oh, in Soviet Russia, Winter runs you!

I blame all of this on Ali, because she kept ordering snow for Christmas 08 and never got it, so it must have been on back order. Hey, Ali, they got your damn snow in stock!! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

It's been so bloody cold here, I've just been hibernating this whole weekend with the paramour.

...although I am happy to see snow for once. We got thunderstorms for the holidays, and a dusting to start the new year out with. Now we FINALLY got snow! :D

We got no mere dusting, we got DUMPED on. I don't think Nature loves us, for some odd reason.

Currently -8 C. I have the heat on hearly the highest, but it is still cold inside. Not sure about the weather outside, though, because I've been hibernating in my apartment for the past three days with the curtains drawn (so as not to let any more of the heat escape). I'll not be surprised if it has snowed even more, though.

We're supposed to get more flurries tonight, along with minus eight degrees Fahrenheit temps, so as you can imagine, I pretty much want to stay in bed until I feel better but that isn't allowed.

Err... I've gotten nothing.  :-\
I hope you feel better soon, Paden!

It's been about 20 degrees the past two weeks. But the sky's SO clear, and it's obvious I won't get an snow anytime soon. Something amazing though, we have this lake that froze over, surrounded by forest nearby my neighborhood. We were driving home after a little shopping trip, and a see a frozen lake surrounded by trees at sunset. It's pretty amazing, the sun was behind the trees and striping the sky with yellow, mixing with the completely clear blue sky, making a beautiful greenish blend across the horizon. The ice was a giant reflective sheet over the lake, it was an amazing sight. I wish I could save what I see with my eyes, like a camera. Because you simply don't have enough time to pull out a camera everytime you see something amazing. The best I can do to share this scene is my writing skills, which aren't exactly the best.
