Title: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: Hammie on February 24, 2010, 03:06:52 pm
Everybody's done it at one point or another. You find a hack you think will be grand, but it really just makes you want to kick yourself  in the bum for putting it in your downloads folder.
For me? Only one...
INTEENIMATER!!
Gah! I HAAAAAAAAATE that hack. You cannot imagine how much mental pain it has given me! *fumes*
It's higher maintence than a toddler! (And I should know...  ;))  *hides axe behind back* Sooo, anyone else wanna share about a hack gone wrong?
 >:D

oh wait, I was gonna install inteen. what's wrong with it!?

Nothing's "wrong" with it. It's just, it clashes with about every mod known to man. And, if you have up to AL, your game will snap reset your household if one of your pregnant teens gets an A +. And, they're not EVEN TEENS! Just some weird teen-adult hybrid. I suggest this one: http://ls.paysites.mustbedestroyed.org/booty/ts2/sims2living/
It's compatible with pretty much everything (except Inteen) and keeps your teens, well, teens! No snap resetting, either, no game crashes, either! Download it at the link above (booty link) and follow the Readme's instructions. Plus, Inteenimater is now unsupported. Click whichever teen woohoo you require based on EPS. The AL version, of course, works for Mansion and Garden. Your pregnant "Teens" with Inteenimater loose loads of interactions other normal teens normally have. To control their pregnancy like the Inteenimater, download the Insimenator on this site and use the Reproductive Controller. (Microwave) which you can purchase from buy mode if you download the .OBJ version.  I have all EPS, Celebration! Stuff, Mansion and Garden, Ikea Home Stuff, and Teen Style Stuff.
**INSIMENATOR IS UNSUPPORTED**

Whoa, I feel like a nerd. LOL.
Let's just say... In my Opinion...
Inteenimater= Massive fireballs falling from sky + ruining your game (most likely)
& Sims2Living= Happy unicorns eating candy and farting butterflies (Haven't found any bugs yet)

Got all games, and a huge bunch of hacks (including inteen/insim) and so far inteen hasn't clashed with anything (that I know of). Depends a lot on how good you are to sort out what you really need, and what will clash...

;D  I meant Squinge's hacks, Sim Blender, ect...It's really not compatible with most things anymore. Unfortunately. And, there are
many, many, MANY, things it's not compatible with (That don't show up on the hack detector, unfortunately...). I'm not trying to be rude. I'm just saying from personal experiences. I think it hates me. I'm not trying to be bratty. If I sound it, but so far, Inteen and I are like, toothpaste and orange juice. LOL.
Not to mention it can sometimes erase game data. And, your teens loose a lot of their "teen" abilities, like check self out, play on playground, chill, ect.. and Squinge's mods he made for those don't really go so hot together. Oh, and you can't use Simwardrobe's weapons with it, either. *sigh* Oh how I missed my crate of throwing axes...

I too have Inteen, insim and some hundred other + hacks for aeons and have never had any problems.
I always run the hack conflict utility from Simwardrobe before installing any new hacks and while I know it is not infallible it has served me well. I agree, most of Squinge's hacks are incompatible with Inteen but that's the choice I've made.
I would give up my game before I gave up Inteen (and Insim).
Out of interest, why simblender? Insimenator and Inteen are a perfect match, at least they always have been for me.

Sim Blender allows more options. More family instant relationships and putting babies up for adoption. But everyone's got their own opinion, and that's totally cool.  Plus, Inteenimater takes away the teen's voice and makes them sound like adults. I love the teen voice. It's so sweet. I used to feel the same about Inteen, thinking I'd die without it, but then I got a taste of Sims2living and I ain't never going back. LOL.

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: caffeinated.joy on February 24, 2010, 05:21:44 pm
Also Sim Blender is a supported mod and still under development, while Insimenator is not. :)

I don't have many hacks in my game, so I really can't say I regret any of them.

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: Prudensh on February 24, 2010, 05:43:16 pm
I actually never noticed about the Teen's voices  And if I have ugly unwanted babies they usually meet a very sticky end courtesy of Insim or the more traditional methods. >:D

So insimenator is a bit like Sims 2 then, caffeinated.joy  ;D

Anyway to answer your original topic, a hack I totally hated was See Them which caused all sorts of horrible jump bugs in my game, as well as Sims appearing and dying on the very edges of my lots (because I wouldn't notice they were there- ironic that it was caused by a mod called See Them!  :D) and they would just starve to death. Quaxi's blur remover is a much better and safer option for me.

When I was new to the whole custom content thing (and back when I had a desktop) I downloaded a bunch of outfits and skintones I'd later regret, especially when I didn't know what "default replacement" meant(the fact that some of them looked good in CAS but HORRIBLE when I actually played the game didn't help much either) and didn't know how to remove custom content or even what folder they were in. I downloaded the lazy way via Q-express(i think that's what it was called) which is no longer available. I still can't believe my download folder on my laptop is as large as it is and I've yet to see any negative repercussions gameplay wise but with the sims 3 only have about 10 custom content files and my game already f[beeps] up

An usable sword (from MTS2) that looked really cool - but caused jump bugs all the time. I had serious problems getting it work correctly, and luckily I didn't save the game. Removed it shortly after testing it.

Also, a non-updated version of the Imsimenator after I installed a new EP. Jump bugs, sims that didn't move, and other serious problems. But switching it with the updated verision worked wonders.

Oh, and that incendiary bomb from simswardrobe. The lot seemed to never stop burning, and I never used the bomb again... I tend to test stuff like that for fun, for never to use them again...

Other than that, the over 10000 unsorted files I had back when I was quite new to downloading is the worst I've ever had in my downloads/savedsins folders (that was before I knew I could use sub-folders).

I guess I've had my share of hacks and mods that didn't work like they should. But at the moment everything seems to be working (except for the memory problem I've got - my game doesn't really like 18GB   of downloads).

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: Carlwashere on February 24, 2010, 07:03:25 pm
I personally had not had any hacks screw up my game. Except for one SUPER outdated mod from MTS that I should of saw coming. It was just a jump bug and nothing more. So that'd about it.

I don't have inteen, or plan to get it.
I personally would like it if real teens would be happy as kids themselves, because they are (myself included). But that's my opinion on it.
I guess you can call me old-fashioned. :)

Back on topic, I don't really get much hacks at all. Just Sim Blender, Insim, and just other random hacks for random stuff.

While I never had a technical problem with ACR, it is a little irritating to hear that BOING sound every time your Romance sim decides to flirt autonomously with every male sim, while her boyfriend is standing right there...and its a little strange to hear the baby music on the other side of the house, when you know you didn't tell the sims to WooHoo in the first place lol...
I don't have Inteen, Insim, or Sim Blender, because I'm slow enough as it is, and its almost guaranteed that I'd screw up my game royally lol

Aw, Carlwashere, that's sweet. I wish more boys were like that. I don't really enjoy watching my classmates suck face in the hallways everyday. *sigh*  :p

Every now and then I regret putting in the satellite drop hack that I got from MTS, but then I see it land on Don Lothario and don't regret it a bit. I just grin from ear to ear and bring him back via the resurrectnometron thingie in the reward category. Ahhhh, I do so love seeing squished Donnie-boy. I wonder what would happen to a sim if I had them stargaze using the telescope, though, haven't tried that one yet... Yes, I am evil. Muwahahahahahahahah!!

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?

@hamsammich  :p
Yeah. The kids sucking face always crowd my already overfilled school hallways. It's hilarious watching sims suck face though.  ;D
If my school was like the sims, I'd be the pissed off sim trying to get by. My school hallways are already huge. Like 4 sim tiles wide by my guess. But 2300 kids would make you think your trying to slip through a crevice.

I like me some torched Don myself Paden! I prefer the classic pool-without-a-ladder myself.  :D

LMAO if seeing people sucking face in the hall way grosses you guys out, I suggest you don't come to my school. People dry humping at school dances, actually humping in the bathrooms, and several pregnant chicks(one of which happens to be my friend :P)

I know what you mean about the sword from MTS. Here I was thinking "sweet!!! Now I've got something to use to make cool pics for stories." Then the jump bugs started happening and my thoughts switched to "WTF!!!" Removed it in a frakkin' heartbeat.

The incendiary bomb is actually one of my fave hacks. *Evil grin* Many unwanted sim families have  been casualties of freak military accidents in my hoods...lol. Or course I ended up have to build way more graveyards as result, but it's all in the name of population control. :D

But if there is one hack that caused me the biggest grief, it was Bloom's sexy feet default replacement hack. An AWESOME hack mind you. Problem is all of the meshes it annihilated in my game that were made off of nude meshes, hence...the "shoes" were now replaced with sexy feet covered in shoe textures. And seeing as I have a crapload of CC that was made pre-sexy feet, it made more sense just to delete the mod rather then trying to fix everything. Besides, most new bodyshapes and nude/barefoot meshes come with sexy feet anyway, so it wasn't a total loss getting rid of the default replacement.

@ Paden-

Yeah, I don't mind constantly probing Donny-resulting in multiple Mpregs-it's just hallarious to see him in labour. My Don  has been tortured endlessly, always constantly on aspiration falliure. LOL

The Christianlov skintone changer ... the one that looks like a picture.

It sounded like a wonderful idea, but I didn't realize back then, when I used it with a vengeance to change skintones so I could get rid of older ones I didn't like, that the changer wasn't permanent. If you had to remove it, your Sims went default. And sometimes, the features you chose on one skintone looked really awful if you switched skintones, whether those skintones are custom ones or not.

To make things worse, for some reason, when I had it in one of my games (I have 2 games on 2 computers), my Sims refused to paint pictures, which meant I HAD to remove it. So hello, defaults!

Thank goodness for Sim PE.

OOH! Fear the ramen! I had the exact same problem. I thought I was going to go mental by the time I got that thing totally out. It clashed with everything. I'm really suprised so many people replied to this thread. It makes me feel so happy!

Yes, yes, we all know I have no social life. AND I AM PROUD!
...Well, not really...

Sorry for replying to my own thread, I'm home ill and haven't got anything to do. I've disovered a new hack that borked up my game and wasn't picked up by the HCDU..."Rent Furnished Apartments Outside of Debug Mode"! It caused odd jump bugs, random pie menus showing up everywhere, and it was pretty much royally borked. I'm glad I write down which hacks/mods I put in my Downloads folder, otherwise, I might've had to delete all my CC.  :-\
(7.19 GB of it...)

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: Chaavik on March 22, 2010, 11:48:03 am
No one taught you how to do the dance with your hacks? Sure, it's long and tedious but you didn't have to delete your 7.x GB worth of CC to find that one itty bitty little problem mod buried deep in.. well you get the idea.

I would be cautious about certain mods that involves debug options since they may be experimental mods that weren't finished or abandoned.

Use a separate Hacks/mods folder - with a link to where you found the hack together with each of them.

I had Carrigon's rape/fight hack and ACR, and I think they were conflicting, though it did not show up as a conflict in the checker. I liked Carrigon's for its plotline ideas but actually it's not rape - just fight nude. So it was disappointing. ACR got boring quite soon, and seems a little unrealistic to me: ALL Sims are not nymphomaniacs... I'm going to try Pescado's fight club again instead. Never used InTeen, teenagers are kids to me.

Am tempted to try Zombie Apocalypse but I need to get the game working perfectly again first. I have altogether too many hacks, and have to rotate them out fairly regularly.

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: MaryH on March 29, 2010, 11:02:43 am
You're right about ACR-it does seem to make everyone "love-happy"..and I've been tempted to take it out of my dl's as well, and I have before. Doesn't seem to make much difference, except that the romantic "interaction" is not automatic.
The Fight Club one is darned good, though..and I've seen it used to actually fight to the death a couple of times.
But I don't like the zombie apocalypse-they turn everyone zombified too quickly, so that you lose complete control of the neighborhood very fast.

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: caffeinated.joy on March 29, 2010, 12:30:29 pm
Yeah, Hammie, the HCDU is a good tool, but it's not a fix all, as you've seen. The thing with it is it doesn't really find conflicts, it just locates the mods that modify the same behaviors in the game and have the potential to conflict. Like theraven said, I have all my mods/hacks in a separate subfolder so, if there is a problem and I know it's with a mod, I only have about 20 or so files to sort through instead of a few thousand.

Yeah, that few. LOL. I told you I didn't have a lot of hacks.

One thing I avoid like the plague, though, is custom foods. In my entire time simming I've downloaded two and had one (I think it was a lasagna or something - it was a few years ago) that borked my game up to hell and back so badly I had to scrap it and start over. I'll stick with the food in the game from now on, thanks.

Oh, no!  I've got quite a few foods as CC.  What can they do to the game?  Now I'm worried my 'hoods will go splat.  *insert worry beads macro*

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: Hammie on March 29, 2010, 03:14:25 pm
Spartle-
It doesn't always conflict, but usually it does. It just depends if it works properly. If you think the custom foods may bork up your game, then go into your search programme on your computer and search up the custom food's file names and remove them. If you want to be even safer, delete your .cache files afterwards and let the game reginerate them at start up. It'll be totally okay.  ;) Has your game been exhibiting any odd behaviour?

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: Spartle on March 29, 2010, 03:23:36 pm
No, it's been behaving just fine.  The only thing that happened is neighbourhood story albums disappeared after I deleted Veronaville.... but I assume that's entirely unrelated.

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: Hammie on March 29, 2010, 03:37:55 pm
That happened to me once, when I went into my computer and wiped out all the snapshots and thumbnails. That'll happen. It'll make your game look really borkified, but it's perfectly fine. It's also a great way to save space.

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: caffeinated.joy on March 29, 2010, 03:39:56 pm
Custom foods can act in the same way conflicting mods will, because they too are EP and SP dependent. Same thing with custom CAS screens and custom careers. I avoid those, too.

Ugh, custom careers are the worst. The last time I had one of those, I would have been better off shoving a bomb into my computer. Lost plenty of sleep figuring that out.  :p

Crap, maybe I ought to get the custom wedding cakes out of my downloads folder... Maybe that's what is causing my sims to jump up from the table before they're done eating. Those are the only custom foods I have, too. Wonder if that's why I can't put the stupid left-overs away, as well. Poop.

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: Sita on March 29, 2010, 08:32:26 pm
Oh yes, and I never use custom careers. They break my game over and over again. I had some I loved, maids and firemen galore... really badly broke it and wiped out entire Hoods. And for some strange reason, so do downloads from the Maxis site.

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: MaryH on March 29, 2010, 08:57:38 pm
It's funny, but most custom careers don't do anything to my game. Custom foods, I don't know about, but I've had custom beverages and they just take over the fridge-defaults.

But I've heard that custom foods will bork your game faster than any mod will.

I'm just glad that I have everything subfoldered, otherwise I would have had to hunt for hours among all of the stuff I have in my game. What can I say, except for I love my custom content and wouldn't be able to play a vanilla game if my life depended on it. :D

Don't feel bad, I have over four hundred of them. I know some folks that have like a thousand and that's no exaggeration. They subfolder everything to be found in the game!

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?

Make a folder called, for example, MATY.
Then put every folder you made earlier containing hacks from that site into that main folder.

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: MaryH on March 30, 2010, 04:34:03 pm
I've read that after 2 layers of folders, the game slows down. So ideally you only have the main folder: "Hacks", and then a subfolder for each creator for the type of hacks: "Pescado" "Squinge", etc.

But what I do before I do anything is put everything into the folder named "Before install", extract it and run the compressorizor and the HCDU (Hack Conflict Detection Utility). The first shrinks the files and the second makes sure that any hacks will work with each other. Then I run the Download organizer to make sure that I don't have any duplicates.

After I do this stuff though: I put the downloads in either the folder they should be in, or make a folder for them.

This process does take time, but it saves it as well. The testimony to that is my game starts fast and runs well.

My downloads folder is 847 MB, with 6,472 files and 172 folders. Tiny by some other people's, but big enough for me!

I used Clean Installer to sort through my stuff when I first began to subfolder and now it's just habit to do it. Saves on pulling out my hair in frustration.

Title: Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder?
Post by: Paden on March 30, 2010, 07:11:33 pm
Open the Clean Installer program from the icon on your desktop, choose the directory called "downloads". That will open the whole folder. Choose how you want things displayed by playing with the buttons at the top of the screen, like name, type, what have you. That will toss stuff into groups. Highlight the groups you want to subfolder, then right click and you'll get a submenu where at the bottom it will give you the option to move it to a folder and choose the new folder option. Name the subfolder, click and boom, it is moved to a new named subfolder that contains those items that you selected. Proceed to do that as you choose, dividing things as you see fit. But, and I can't stress this enough, keep recolours with the meshes because it just makes playing the game so much easier for you! Once that is done, go to your Sims game folder and clear out the cache files and it will then load properly. I found out the hard way that if you don't do that after subfoldering, it takes bloody forever to load...

And lest I forget to mention it, hacks will show up red highlighted, be it an object that is hacked or just a regular hack. Duplicate items will show up as pink highlighted. The program will also tell you what it is, such as floor, wall, object, hair, etc. Have fun! :D And yes, going through the effort now will save much more time and effort in the future.

Thank you, Paden for the small tut on the Installer..I've got too many "unsorted" downloads that I just tossed in that folder, and haven't gotten around to sorting. This should help a little bit!

I read somewhere that if you have certain expansion packs that sub-folders will not work (why I dunno).  But me being the computer illerate person I am I didn't bother with subfolders... I'm regretting it now, with over 13,000 files (almost 14,000) I have no idea what I have.

Guess if I ever decide to start over I'll give the subfolders a try, sounds like a lot less headache.

I have just deborked my game. Here's the hack that was the root of the problem:
Smonaff's Ghost Hack. Fireballs falling from the sky, and children going ignorant and being taken by the social worker. (It wouldn't let them go to school and when it rained or snowed, the lot would crash) Everything's a-okay now though! ;D

I have all EPs and SPs and use subfolders with no problem. Just as an FYI. :)

The one I found was borking my game was Sunbathe anywhere. It was really cool to have them sunbathing as soon as spring arrived but the lag when changing to tan and back was criminal... I think I still have one sim left with the tan permanently on... I only have about 6 vampire friendly careers but no cc food. I really have very few hacks but tons of clothes and hair...

 I never knew the Sunbathe anywhere hack could bork things up. I use it all the time and it works fine. But y'know, maybe that's why it lags so much. -Goes searching through subfolders- Thanks for telling me that, Mari.

I actually took it out, and my children don't snap reset when they get an A + anymore. Strange.
MAJOR IMPORATANT EDIT: I don't know if anyone still uses the Sims 2's lot exchange, (I don't) but I found a borkified lot that'll mess up your game faster than you can snap your fingers. And, the worst part is the Sims 2 HCDU and Clean Installer won't pick it up. I try to avoid using that site, because most lots/Sims are royally borked. BEWARE!

I have looked at Carrigon's rape hack before, Sita, but I opted not to install it for personal reasons. ACR 2 beta 5a has become more interesting now that the townies are really .. I mean really into each other. I don't think they have gone up for fresh air since I installed the newer version.  ;D

I thought TJ made the Ghost Hack. Maybe Squinge. The only one I know of that I use still under Smonaff's name was the Period Hack.

It's over on MTS2, Chaavik. It conflicts will all adolescent WooHoo/pregnancy mods. I've tested. :-\ I don't really like Carrigon's rape hack either, I only used it once and removed it afterwards. Finding "rape" on a pie menu kind of made my skin crawl.

Shame, too. It only started doing this since I got Masion and Garden Stuff.  1sw2
But, I took it out, and my game's all happy again!

God, I can't sleep. I'm probably going to up all night again. Funnn.

EDIT: My Sim kids would snap reset and fly off the bus and come home without homework. Then, they'd get taken away for bad grades. Ugh. I just removed Monique's buyable wishing well and Squinge's "perk up" interaction enabled and deleted my .cache files. I'm hoping it'll work now. I've had flying kids for almost a week now.

Well, if I had to choose between the Sim Blender and the Insimenator (and I did, actually), I would choose Sim Blender, simply for the fact that it's supported and under development.

SQUEE!
My game still hasn't worked properly since my last post in this thread. *headdesk* But I just figured out that it was Squinge's "playwithfridge interaction enabled" and "noanatomus school cheer" conflicting with each other. One of them was actually out dated. But now, everything's fixed for sure. I am SO happy! No more social workers! Woo!  1rock
