Title: Cordelia Chase from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Post by: dizzygoogoodollie on September 04, 2010, 04:23:34 pm
Cordelia Chase is a fictional character created by Joss Whedon for the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer; she also appeared on Buffy's spin-off series Angel. Portrayed by Charisma Carpenter, the character appears as a series regular in the first three seasons of Buffy, before exiting the show and becoming a series regular during the first four seasons of Angel. The character made her last television appearance in 2004, appearing as a special guest star in Angel's one hundredth episode. Cordelia also appears in apocryphal Buffy and Angel material such as comic books and novels.

None of the CC is by me, full credit goes to all who made it  :D

Deliciously Demonic, please take a moment to look up what constructive criticism means and then utilize it when posting here. You may not like something uploaded and this is fine. It's your right. However, this does not give you license to say nothing encouraging. Constructive criticism is given with the intent to help a person improve on something and recognize the effort put in, not just simply shoot them down. You may think it doesn't look like Cordelia Chase, but others might think she looks great.

Therefore, if you have nothing constructive to say, such as what you like about the sim and what might be changed to make her look better, then kindly don't say anything at all. Other sites might find trashing another creator's hard work acceptable, but this isn't one of them. As I said before, we know not everything will be liked equally by everyone, but keep it civil and constructive or say nothing at all.

Or, in terms your mother may have used: If you can't say something nice and helpful, keep your damn mouth shut and save your breath to cool your soup.

I just came across this thread and thanks to the admins here at insimenator. DeliciouslyDemonic or Daniella, why not try and create yourself a Cordelia Chase Sim and show us.

Hoping that a few points will be helpful for dizzygoogoodollie : I downloaded your Sim, installed with Sims2Pack Clean Installer to check the content. I'd say, it's truly better to limit the use of photoskinned skintones and of face kit items. Then think of the right proportions for some parts of the face as well. Cordelia's mouth doesn't seem to be that big from photos. And I would have chosen eyes from anotehr eyes set as well, and another eyesshadow.

OK I love to create Sims, even sometimes a few celeb Sims - I'd use more than two photos of a celebrity -. I'd give it a try myself for Cordelia Chase and would post pics of my own version of that Sim on my blogs site here http://lizcrea.vefblog.net/.

Some other suggestions for changes:
Cheekbones could be a bit less protruding, less square forms (especially chin, which is too square and flat, and doesn't stand out that much), less mascara, thinner mouth, thinner and less fluffy eyebrows. She also has a slightly longer and wider nose.
Maybe straighter hair, too. That hair makes her head look very big and wide (And makes me think of Rachel in Friends, for some reason...). A smooth-combed hairstyle that looks more like the hair she has in the first original pic would fit her better.

A tip is that the face sculpt should look as close you can get to the original model without the use of photoskinned material and makeup/face kit items. Those should only be a bonus. Photoskinning could in fact make things look a lot worse if not done properly...

I created my own version of the actress, Charisma Carpenter and called her this way here :

http://lizcrea.vefblog.net/Simmette_Charisma_Carpenter with details to download from mediafire. It's the best I can do  3yay

Of course a celeb Sim is never exactly as the real person. Theraven is right on some other points but for the cheeks and other face details it's the photoskinned skintone messing up, due to too often overlayed make up as for one of such skintones for Angelina Jolie (just an example).

For my Sim I didn't use any face kit item and I kept the make up as natural and nice as possible. I used another Helga hair (rec. by LaPink) which I like better. Too straight midlong hair wouldn't have been right either.

Thank you :) All I can also say to dizzygoogoodollie is first off, don't concentrate on downloading face kit items. Test all make up and skintones in BodyShop with just those packages from sets in an temporary Downloads folder. It's always what I'm doing now because for eyeshadows I like what makes Sims look Occidental and not Asian. Also for skintones, it's hard because most of them still got Asian styled eyelids and such, as for Asian Lolitas or manga characters. Just test, test, test. I also often work the face sclpting with the Maxis bald hairstyle (shaved hair) and I'd add the hairstyle and colour only after the make up is finished for my Sim.

To everyone who has been giving me good criticism:

i appreciate all the points that you have been giving me, i'm glad that most of you understand how hard it is to make celeb sims. However, i sort of feel like i should just point out that it is my version of the actress, to me i think its the best i can do and also what i've learned through simming over the past few years is that face kits are used on most celebrity sims, a lot of the best simmers use them and i feel that this is the best way to make them look authentic. I understand that some may not think that it looks like her because they may feel that she needs to look more realistic but to me i feel that sims (especially celeb sims) look the best when they just look like sims and not real people. I'm not trying to come over as aggressive in this post i just thought that i should voice my opinion on her :). Again, if you don't like her then just don't download her but on the other hand she's a good looking sim either way so i'd encourage people to give her a chance :).

This is a perfect example of the old adages, "One man's trash is another man's treasure" and "to each his own". I do appreciate the civility of this discussion, so thank you.

Some people love the uber realistic sims and some can't stand them. Personally, I find them a bit scary, to be honest. I don't think the suggestions people made were an effort to make her look more realistic (and I don't think Lizzy or theraven will disagree with you when you say sims should look like sims), but to perhaps help give her a closer resemblance, much like how an excellent cartoonist can make a caricature look so much like the actual person while remaining a caricature. Really, this is what we're doing, as simmers, right? Making caricatures of the actual celebrities.

I look at your sim and I do see the resemblance, and I understand the look you're going for. In my sims, I'll only use face kit items if I sculpted the face and am happy with it, but it just needs that extra something, but it still looks like the sim I'm trying to make without it. Really no matter what you do, everyone is going to see something they would do differently. It's the nature of things. In the end, it's your choice to take or disregard any advice. :)

Exactly.
I just pointed out some things that might help you if you wanted to make the face sculpt closer to the celebrity, and I'm sure that's what Lizzy meant, too. Your version do look like Cordelia, Dizzygo, but with a few small changes, it could look even more like her.

I myself keep far away from trying to make sims look like someone, because face sculpting just isn't my thing (if I want to make a special sim, I do like Joy, finishing the face sculpt first, and then add makeup or skin details later). I do however have a sharp eye for details. Not always for my own things, though, as it's easy to be blind for the things that other people see instantly - especially if you've been working for a long time on something. That's why I tend to post in-work pictures of my stuff, especially if it's a request, since other people might spot things I don't see.

Constructive criticism is a way to learn how to become better at something, and even learn new ways to do it. But like Joy says, it's your choice whether to take the advice or leave it be.

Yes exactly! I wasn't trying to bash anyone for giving me constructive criticism; i understand that your trying to help me and i thank you for that because even after years of making sims i am still learning, i was just saying my reasons for making her the way i did; i personally don't see much wrong with her since i've studies faces through drawing and eventually simming; but maybe in the future i might think differently :). Aside from the fact that there are things that i could do to change her, i'm happy with the outcome and people can alter her in their game if they wish, (PLEASE DON'T UPLOAD THOSE ALTERATIONS OF THE SIM ON TO ANY WEBSITE!  3cry).

Hello dizzy again. In fact myself used facekit stuff at the beginning when I started to replay the Sims 2 by 2008. But it's a matter of taste as well. Since I sorted all from my Bodyshop subfolder in Downloads I hope to grab nice skintones and separate make up, etc. I don't like photoskinned skintones with already eyebrows, blush. I like to have my own choice for customising a Sim's face. It might take me some time but I like to create Sims.

Anyway for your enjoyement I got Charisma Carpenter for download and a new Sim, called Betty at my blog :

http://lizcrea.vefblog.net/Betty_pourfor_dizzygoogoodollie

BTW apart from just celeb Sims, we all have our on style for Sims, just like drawing (I'm also drawing). My daughter's Sims - most inspired from mangas - has her own style for creating Sims and she doesn't change it. My very first Sims wow, I got to say were ugly but back in 2005 I found them great and I didn't have much CC.

Also in regard to my Charisma Carpenter Sim, I created her from the random female Maxis Sim appearing in BodyShop and chose the first Maxis Sim template to resculpt.
