Title: Custom Content not displaying in Nightlife
Post by: kathy on September 15, 2005, 11:05:15 am
I have seen other people with this issue but no solution and with MTS2 being down right now I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask here. My custom objects/recolors appear perfectly fine. However my custom skins/hair/makeup does not appear. Only a few pieces that were left in bodyshop. The custom clothing/makeup appears on said sims that were created before NightLife was installed though. When I installed the game I first moved my downloads folder to my desktop and then loaded the game and enabled the content and then exited and replaced the folder. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not but I really don't want to reinstall all 3 games to find out. So any ideas/solutions would be welcomed.

I removed my folder and created a new folder in it's place and have been slowly introducing hacks back into the game so that is not the problem .. i have read that people have been having problems with custom content being in subfolders so if you have them in subfolders remove them and just place them in your download folder only.. other than this i dont know Kathy?

Well I figured this one out myself so if anyone has this problem....Remove your downloads folder and create a new one either by right clicking and select new folder and name it Downloads or by loading bodyshop or downloading a sims2pack installer file. Copy all of your downloads to the new downloads folder and restart your game or bodyshop and all should appear correctly.

funny thing, I uninstall the sims2 and reinstalled it from scratched did the patch for the first sims2 and when i installed nightlife it installed at the end faster then it did the first time, the reason i did this is cause i defraged my machine and it was starting up very slow, now it starts up pretty fast with most of all my clothing back and recolor's and a little bit of hacks that includes the insimenator uv dest version, and with the larger veiw my game runs smoothly.

I had this tip from TSR and after trying everything else, i thought ?why not? It worked,

if your downloads folder is "downloads" and not "Downloads" you need to capitalize it.

I only wish I had known before I had to RE Download everything I had - or rather am still doing, lol

But when it took my game nearly fifteen minutes to load instead of three, I knew I had them. :)

PS  my problem was not objects, it was clothes, makeup, and hair especially.

Give it a shot, it worked for me!           (*sigh, now back to unzipping the last 147,872,659 downloads I had to get again, lol)

I had this problem too, but then I downloaded the extra car Sims offered for pre-ordering.  After I downloaded the one item it seemed to open up some download portal or something.  Now all my custom content which I have enabled shows up.

Is that the menu that pops up at the start of the game asking you to enable or disable custom content?

If it is, that's the nightlife only enable/disable custom content menu.

I used to get it. You can disable it in the options (I think gameplay menu) panel.

I must thank you for the tip, I nearly ripped my hair out by the roots yesterday when all my precious Sims skins were not displaying once I installed Nightlife which I got yesterday. It fixed the whole thing up. Now if only the load times could be dealt with, this is such a powerful computer, and yet my lesser one loads faster.

no i'm off to test it out and see if that helped thanks for the tip.

ok that fixed it my custom skins once again show up yaayyyy now they don't have to all dress alike lol. ok so all of them still don't appear but i am looking to see which files are still missing then they should all be back in there.it isn't anything other then forgot which files i left out lol.

In the mydocuments/ea games/sims 2 is where it should go.

Title: Custom Content not displaying in Nightlife
Post by: Teresa on November 15, 2005, 02:58:32 pm
You should be putting them in this folder,

C:\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads

And when in the game make sure you enable custom content.

Make sure your downloads folder is named Downloads or skins and what not won't appear.

none of my custom content is showing up and i've tried everything i know to try. i've been through other threads trying to figure out why it's not showing up but haven't found anything that will work.  it was all showing up but i had to do a system restore and i got everything reinstalled that i had before (at least i think i did cause i had so much lol) and now nothing shows up.  if any one can think of something   please help.

EDIT:  well  i went into the game and turned the custom content off and back on and now everything is working fine.  not sure what was up with it but i'm glad it's back working again.

I have found that some of the skins and some of the custom clothing I've put into the downloads folder, has either not shown up or comes up looking like one of the normal boring pieces that comes with the game.  Sometimes when you click on it, it makes the sim change into the custom clothes, but most of the time it just continues to come up looking like the normal sim clothing.  There's been something like 10-15 repeated blue sweaters when I go to dress my adult male sims.

I did that too, downloaded everything again when I could have just fixed it with the folder options. It happened to me when I got Nightlife too, and nothing in the CAS seemed to work cept the stuff Maxis made, LOL then I just redownloaded everything. I now know what to do just in case it happens when I get OFB and I thank you all for sharing your ideas here :)

The only thing working on my custom content is the inteeninator or whatever it's called, but nothing else shows up. It's in the download folder and the folder is called Downloads with a capital, but it doesn't come up. I don't know what else to do.

cjdrey03 if it is overwriting then it is a default mesh and is probably set that way by design. If you don't want it overwriting then remove it and or contact the creator of it and see if they made one which does not overwrite the Maxis content. As far as the CAS is concerned I would suggest posting your question in his thread.

Hey, I bought Nightlife and haven't installed yet.
I downloaded some of the mermaid tails and extracted them to my sims2 downloads file.
Before I install Nightlife how do I get the tails there?
I don't want to mess anything up and I've never downloaded things into the sims2, so can someone please help like step by step??

Please.

I also haven't been able to see the clothes because my Sims2 was too scratched up and when it was starting it keeps freezing so thats why I bought Nightlife...

Hanon, it sounds like you did it rightly.

but here is a re-cap.

1. Un-ZIP or Un-RAR the files with WinZIP, WinRAR, 7-zip, or a equivalent programme
2. Copy the extracted files to your Downloads folder
--  usually C:\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads or
--  CC:\Documents and Settings\*your windows user name*\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads

Then when you start Nightlife remember to the enable custom content.

You're so kind even to someone annoying like me and I really appreciate it, thank you.

It seems though I bought Nightlife and Sims2 *again* in vain, it pauses after the "ea games..challenge everything" even though I reinstalled the new games. I don't know why. The "Movies" game and all my other games work fine, I have Windows XP only 1 and a half year old computer. I really wanna play though so I'll figure something out, somehow.

I'm having a simular prob. except it's only careers and game mods esp. for nightlife that aren't working, I enable custom content and then when I go into a lot it starts loading but never opens, I tried being patient and sat infront of a loading lot for 45 minutes before I finally just turned my whole computer off! My Downloads folder is correct, I've tried what feels like a thousand things and I'm going insane, I need help!

sounds like you have a bad package Beccy.

Your going to have to take it all out and move it back in in small groups to find the bad one.

My problem is different. Custom Clothes/Makeups/Hairstyles/etc. load fine, but it's the hacked objects and stuff that don't appear. I suppose I should try that method, see if it works.

you don't put your downloads in the Program Files.

 They go My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads

monkey - it is a dicey call - some yes some no - so there is no 100% answer.

Have you installed CEP (Colour Enable Package) (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=92541) yet?  It is an essential addition for most custom objects.

If you have downloaded clothing and they are not showing up, you may be missing meshes,  the same is true of object recolours but more so since they will not even show up at all.

my body shop crashed for some reason , kept gittin an exception notice and , so i uninstalled all the way, reinstalled original, uni and nl , all objects appear but none skins, makeup body types or clothes , dang it ive lost my athletic girl and i want her back , HHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

EDIT: ok i got em back , tried 3 things i saw here dont know for sure which 1 did it but the important thing is it worked made a copy file , then noticed i had a lower case d on downloads , so changed that to cap d , then un allowed custom content and simultaneous re allowed now all my stuff is back , oops take that back i have downloaded the a/g skin tight shirts , jeans, jackets meshes and some recolors of each and they only show as maxis stuff, any ideas ? ive redownloded the meshes  and still notta:sign5:

EDIT: ok ppl heres what i just discovered is happening in my folder , when i use the rar to unpack em its puttin em in a semi folder like after u do a zip file the kind u delete after u copy and paste from the extracted zip , if u dont check those b4 u delete em thats where the stuff is goin, "down the tubes" i explored one after un rar ing the a/g jeans mesh for the 4th time and they were in there, hope this helps

You could try deleting "My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/groups.cache".

try disabling then re-enabling custom content - also do as ancienthighway recommends and delete groups.cache from The Sims 2 folder in you My Documents or Home folder.

sorry if theis was answered, but what does this do? How does deleting it help? I have UV, NL, OFB, and GLS and the game stops loading and quits during the sequence that has all the funny phrases going across the bottom when I have CC clothes and objects in my DL's folder in sub-folders. and the few objects I have out and floating don't show up. including the insimenator obj. I tried only putting a few objects in at a time, but it doesn't help. I turned to enable CC on and it still wont work. please help a dummy that has real trouble getting stuff to work. thanks in advance, Kittycataussie

The Groups.cache file is an index file of all you CC.  It's also easily corrupted when adding and deleting CC.  If the game doesn't find it, it will recreate the file based on the current makeup of CC.

If the file is corrupted, the load process is stalled.

I had the same problem w/ custom hairs & makeup, though eyebrows were my biggest issue.

Whenever I had one of my sims use eyebrows other than the bushiest kind, their entire face turned the color of their eyebrows; they were faceless.  Also, after I applied makeup to a sim, when I loaded them in a community lot or exited to the neighborhood view and back to their lot, their entire face would flash blue... I would go to a mirror, click "fix appearance", & they would appear to be using all maxis defaults (and their eyebrows & makeup were missing) meaning that their eyes & skintone were normal... but once I fixed their makeup their faces turned back to their normal color & their custom skin, eyebrows, and makeup returned.

The problem didn't go away until I purchased & downloaded OFB, and it hasn't come back since I got uni.

Anyone have any idea why this happened?  I don't have the problem anymore, but I'm wondering whether anyone else had this happen...

Hello, I'm a new person here, and it turn out that I've shared quite a same problem mentioned here, that is where a certain custom content doesn't show up in the game. But most of the non appeared items are recolored items that uses the same mesh. I've tried every method that mentioned to no avail.
But more importantly to me is that some objects from Nightlife appears without its colors, meaning it just show some white area with certain words inside. This includes cars, clothes, hairs, and even vampire skins. I'd give you a screenshot below:

Is there any way to solve the second problem?? Because it just annoys me, although the game still run smoothly. For your information I installed the Expansion pack not in their order, in this case I installed Nightlife the last, after I installed fun stuff, university, etc. Thx beforehand.
