The Mysterious fall over for no reason Death bug is back and it has gotten worse than it was before as you can plainly see!
This time Death/The Grim Reaper is affected
in this photo you can see she fell over and passed on
when ol Grimmy came' "he was invisable" all except for the black smoke and clipboard
plus his phone when he calls heaven or whoever he calls..

Sim2Kid405 - grab pictures so we have more proof that it happens ..
To remove the panel hit F10 then get the snapshot then hit F10 to return the panel
then just alt + tab out and use ms paint to get it or use your in game camera

The more pics we get the less maxis has to ask questions and can correct it! :D

I've come across a few glitchy things myself (Two of which have been posted at MTS2).

Before installing, I made a back-up folder, went in the game and deleted the InSimenator from all of my lots (as that's the only hacked object I have), and used the Clean Installer to disable everything else.  I also chose to further disable them when the screen popped up (Which was weird, since I found them disabled anyway..but whatever, lol).

Anyway, no hacks, custom careers, custom food dishes, or anything of that sort were involved.

1 - move_objects on was involved.  It resulted in the loss of my first downtown lot, which is now an empty, blue, and unbulldozable square.  However, when asked where to go through the taxi, the lot appears, even with a preview picture.  I have not tested this as I am afraid to lose my dear sims.

2 - Sims were having problems doing much more than retrieving "Instant Meals" from the fridge.  At first, I thought it was the fridge.  No go.  I ordered groceries (despite that it was at 226/300), and nothing.  I checked my stove for burnt meals.  Nothing.  I washed dishes and took out the trash.  Nada.  Then, good old Remington (who was stuck in my house, and would not leave, and therefore needed to be fenced in and killed) gave me an idea.  When he was fenced in, I needed to take with him, a few of my kitchen island counters.  Of course, my sims still had plenty of counterspace, and never EVER had made a meal on the island counters anyway... but outside of the fenced area, suddenly my meals were accessible.  But this was not the end of my toils!

Remington is dead.  The fences are gone.  The issue occurs again.  So this time, I went ahead and replaced each and every counter.  Nothing.  I went through the whole shebang again.  And then, many dollars later (as at this point, I am weary of any game cheats after the move_objects incident), I decide that perhaps it was the stove.  This seemed to work.  However, on MTS2, someone mentioned that they had custom meals involved with theirs (Which I do not download anyway), and another one found that lowering and re-raising the cooking skill level solved this issue.  A third party mentioned such issues without having NL installed.

2 has been the most annoying, as it resulted in my hungry sims getting dangerously low with their motives.

And now...3.

3 - Stairs.  Not so annoying, really.  But unusual.  I now present screenshots of a 3x1 (or is it 1x3?) lot in Downtown.  It's a residential space.  Here are some pics:

In this shot we see that my stair case, for some reason, extends below the floor.

This is a shot of that very same space, just a floor lower.  Notice the lack of iron bars.

And now, I present the most unusual of pictures.  When deciding what sort of stair case to use, I found out that my stairs were able to fit through walls.  So I checked it out on the front of my house (to see if it made an auto-hole in the wall), and found this.

Note that the move_objects cheat was never enabled on this lot.

Aside from that, I noticed that one of the green floorings was completely removed (Recycled-somethingorother - a bunch of green circles overlapping in what I think was either the linoleum or concrete section).  It's been changed into a tiger-stripey sort of flooring, which I don't like one bit!

Not being able to build to the edge of the lot is still annoying; and more so since the advent of the smaller lots.  If one wants to have an extended/overlapped roof (that is support by say, pillars around the outer walls), we further have to kill our space by one square.

I myself just encountered a weird bug/glitch/whatever in the game, I had used insim to give all my sims cellphones then I had one sim, Sleepy's sim, call the matchmaker and when I bought some love potion (10) from her for $3,500 Sleepy's sim just disappeared from view, she could still be clicked wit her pic there on the left side, but her sim is actually invisible right now on my lot. Has anyone else seen this happen yet?

I've been thinking about this, Zelia Theb.  You say the move_objects cheat wasn't enabled on this particular lot, but once you've enabled the move_objects cheat on any lot, it's enabled on all lots until you disable it or restart the game.

Had you enabled it on another lot before you started working on this quirky one?

(great pix by the way!  :D )

She had the plumbob thing, but when I select a different sim, she disappears from the lot completely, no pic on the left and no visible sim. I'm not even sure if moving them out and back in the house would fix it, I think I'd have to remake the entire family, 5 sims, and just forget about calling the gypsy matchmaker to get those potions cuz thats when this all started, was after getting those from her.

Usually if the plumb bob disappears that means the sim has been moved "out of world" similar to what happens when they leave for class.  If the plumb bob hangs around, this suggests that the sim's model itself (or an accessory on the model) has encountered a rendering(drawing) error of some kind - so the sim simply isn't drawn.  You might check your Logs folder.  In addition to the behavior log files that we all know and love, the game will emit graphics errors it encounters with regard to textures, bad models, animations, etc.  There may be a reference to your sim in one of those files that might give you a clue.

As long as I keep that sim selected, the plumbob and everything is there, but once I either move the mouse over that sim or select a different sim, everything including the plumbob disappears for that sim so I'll have to look for something I guess in those files, wherever they are. Where would I find those?

My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Logs

You'll see a handful of files:

TextureErrors.txt
resources.txt
ProductionMessages.txt

etc.

I have a TextureErrors.log file in there, but I am not sure which program to use to open it so I can look at it, but I took a pic of my entire folder there so you can tell me where my problem might be located in these files then, since I'm such an idiot when it comes to things like that lol..

Wow! I have used the InSim to add Cells to all my teens and adults. I have only been experimenting with one house but (even though the InSim says that the Sim has a Cell) l it is not available when I click on him or any other Simmie on that lot. I removed the phone hack thinking this was the culprit but I still do not have the option. So weird![/i]

Oops, forgot to mention that I have always had that weird stair prob with all of the S2 games. It only happens with the drop stairs not the fixed stairs. You can see the bottom of the stairs bleeding through lower floors. I just shrugged and use the fixed stairs. This is not a NL phenomenon. It has existed in the Veronaville horror forever.

Well, the first move_objects was done on the same day of release.  Also, I am careful to turn move_objects off right after I'm done with whatever needs doing (In this instance, putting wall sconces in my cellar level).

The stair shots I just took last night.  So the game was restarted -plenty- of times.  Hence, why it's so weird!  I haven't enabled move_objects at all since that day of NL's release.  I'm too afraid of it now, lol. :)

Great pix? (Double pun for that pixelated-ness, huh?)  Thanks!  I think it's easier to provide evidence, as I believe kathy already said. :)

We found a new one!  When playing university (with NL installed) there's no pop-up warning that there's class in an hour.  The 'go to class' icon is queued, but if the YA is doing some directed action, like studying, research or skill-building they won't stop and go to class, and without that warning to the player..........well, you see the problem!

I'm playing a freshly installed game with no custom content, and removed the two mods that I was testing (inSIM and a soon-to-be released NL version of inTEEN) to see if the problem was related to them....but no dice.  The class-in an hour pop-up, did'nt well....pop-up!  It seems Maxis has removed this feature.  Has anyone else noticed this?

Title: Nightlife Quirks' bug's' and Glitches!
Post by: jase439 on September 23, 2005, 04:42:25 pm
The tutorial/game tips system fails to set the magic data bits which trigger the "Go To Class" warnings and the 5-hour Go To Final warning for Uni students.  I have filed a report with Maxis, and may release a "patch" of my own for this.  In either event, you'll have to be extra diligent in seeing your Uni students off to class.

This may only apply to new neighborhoods.

I haven't yet gotten around to playin' my Uni neighborhoods yet, but I downloaded your patch anyway. I first noticed that this was an original bug from Uni. so this is a convenient patch. Does it go in the downloads folder  :?:

Also, one glitch I noticed in NL was the people who did have cell phones in UNI, no longer have cell phones in their inv.

I have heard about the love potion glitch, so I am staying away from that till there's a fix.

Title: Patch causing odd wants quirk?
Post by: Avi on September 24, 2005, 04:17:16 pm
Hmm . . .  I just put that patch in to fix the class notification and after starting up the game one set of playable Sims at a dorm had problems with their wants . . .  2 of them had no wants, one had just one want . . .  and the other one was fine.  One of the ones with no wants was at class and one was in their dorm room.  The one with only one want remaining was also at class.  The one that was fine was on the couch.  I tried resetting the wants with InSim but to no avail . . .  only reset the fears.  This is the only hack I've added since playing last, but I've downloaded plenty of clothes and things, so I'm not sure if it's what's doing it, though usually hair meshes and clothing doesn't mess up the game . . .    So I don't know what this is about.  Maybe it's conflicting with another hack?  All of the hacks I currently have are Nightlife compatible, as far as I can tell.  (I've checked the lists and updated when possible.)

After removing the hack, that particular dorm is still having the same problem . . .  :^(  Didn't seem to fix itself . . .  My other dorm is fine, though.  :^\  Kind of odd . . . I had to use the Change Aspiration cheat on InSim and just rechoose their aspirations to get the wants back.  Just thought I'd let you know what happened . . .

Title: Nightlife Quirks' bug's' and Glitches!
Post by: jase439 on September 24, 2005, 06:10:46 pm
This is an exceedingly mindless patch.  It simply ignores the check which determines whether or not the popup should be displayed.  It has nothing to do with wants or fears or aspirations.  Your problems are entirely unrelated (as born out by the fact that if you remove the patch, the behavior persists).  My best advice to you is to use Sims 2 Clean Installer:

http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com

And disable all of your content and verify that the problem is no longer present (if it isn't you may need to start a new family on a new lot or reinstall the game).  If the problem goes away, you'll need to systematically re-enable each mod one at a time until the problem resurfaces.  Tedious, but the only definitive means of narrowing down the problem.

Title: One (avoidable) bug not mentioned so far
Post by: Drasca on September 25, 2005, 12:47:35 am
Here's a car related bug:
Step 1) Buy a car (driveway too), don't set an owner yet.
Step 2) Get invited to go to community lot or downtown (I suspect simply telephoning for taxi would do it)
Step 3) Set Sim that's going to community lot to own car.

When your Sims become new car owners AFTER they're committed to going to a community lot / downtown, will promptly leave your home in a taxi, but not correctly load via taxi in said community lot. You'll simply waste your time in build mode on the community lot and reload. No play/action mode available. So what happens? Car ownership is flagged, but car wasn't driven. Taxi was taken, but with the car ownership being flagged, a taxi won't load once you're on the community lot. Thus, stuck in build mode and all you can do is reload. Luckily, its not a serious bug.

Harmless? Mostly. Annoying? Definitely. Easily avoidable? Most definitely.

So bewared guys, if you're going out to other lots via taxi, don't set car ownership. There's no such problem with going to work this way, as you do not leave the lot with 'car owner' flagged, but not driven to the lot.

Thanks for mentioning that! I had that problem a few days ago and thought it was due to a combination of mods I put in. I didn't have time to test, so I just got rid of them. It's good to know that it wasn't the files  :)

I am sure most know about this by now, That if you play ssx 3 on the cheap computer(maybe the other one, Havent tryed it) that after your sim gets off the computer that ssx 3 stays in a contineous loop even if you shut down the computer.

I had a similar problem where an entire Sim would simply disappear but still be in gameplay. If your Sim only has a head I am thinking that you are using a custom skin and the nude MESH is not available. Just a thought!

Also, have you added the PATCH to your game? Some of the weird effects that were plaguing my game (like disappearing Sims) seems to have been fixed by the PATCH.

My sister and I have both experienced some weird NL glitches, the main one that we've encounter about 3 times, our sims will just be moving around in Veronaville (once in Pleasantview), and all of a sudden turn into floating clothes like they're no the sim, but no sim is there... just the clothes and the "Invisible sim's" shadow...... and when this happens, all the sims in the game are invisible, even in the CAS screens, until I reset the game....
