Title: GIMP 2.8 Help?
Post by: SenkoTwiik on June 08, 2012, 11:16:05 am
I don't know if anyone here knows much about Gimp, but it's the program I use to edit clothes and skins with Bodyshop.
I just recently got my computer fixed, and I had to install the newest GIMP, which is 2.8
It's very much like the older versions, except I can't figure out how to export my project from Gimp back to Bodyshop.
The older versions used to just make the path for you, all you had to do was click "Save" and the export was done.
But for this version, when you choose to save, a screen comes up asking you where you want to save.
If I choose the pre-determined path, and choose to export, it saves, but when I refresh to see my progress on Bodyshop, nothing changes.

Can someone tell me how to properly export?

Are you saving as BMP?
You should check whether you have an extra file in the project folder you're using. I seem to remember that you have to manually save as BMP, and save over the original BMP file. If you don't do that, the changes won't save.

Not sure if it's helpful, but Carenrose put up a tutorial on recoloring with GIMP, that also covers saving files - here: http://moonlightdragon.freeforums.org/tutorial-changing-the-color-of-clothes-w-o-losing-shading-t374.html.

Okay, I tried that. And it crashed Bodyshop. Is there any way I can just install an older version?

I just got the newest GIMP, myself.  :D
Open the file from the project folder, make your changes and then go to
File > Overwrite 'file name'.

Does that work on doing skintones?
I managed to figure out how to do recolors of clothing, but if I try to do the export when I'm putting tattoos on skins, it crashes.
Will the overwrite work for that?

As long as you merge all of your layers first.
I tried overwriting one that had multiple layers, and it crashed bodyshop.

And save a copy with all the layers intact (in case you need it for another project). Nothing is more annoying than needing it and finding only a collapsed layer you can't use for much...

Yes, I've made that mistake.
Make sure to save an .xcf file.

Skins work now. I did two skins yesterday without crashing, using the overwrite.
But now hair recolors won't work.
I made sure to merge my layer down (there was only 2 layers, the original, and the new blue color),
I tried both the overwrite, and the export, both crashed.
Is there something new I should be doing here, or should I just try again exactly as I did.
Maybe I made a mistake I didn't notice along the way?

I'm sure hair would work the same way.  :-\

Try again and see if it works.
If not, I'm not sure, because it seems to work for me using the overwrite.

It seems like Bodyshop picks and chooses when it wants to accept something or when it wants to crash like a jerk.
I managed to figure out hair,
But now skins won't work with even overwrite. I overwrite OR export and both crash.

Ah, so it is touchy with the new gimp.
Do you want to try downgrading?
I can send you the .exe file for 2.6, which is my favorite version.

Strange. I've never had that problem with the latest GIMP version. Are your drivers up to date?
