So you might be able to call your butler over (by putting him on one of your telephone's Groups) and do it that way, but other than that, it's not going to happen.
I myself wouldn't be inclined to bother, though; there's not a whole lot of time between his quitting time and his "ready for work again" time. But then again, a teleporting butler might actually help (even if none of my butler-employing Sims have managed to catch a ninja yet); my mad roboteer's butler is constantly cleaning up spoiled food because he's competing with two Servos and a MunchieBot to see who gets to feed the good doctor and his half-alien daughter first. I never understood the stigma against thread necromancy, though. If there are A) several existing topics about the same subject further down the scroll, and B) not a whole lot of forum activity, wouldn't it get a mite repetitive to see the same topic get cloned every six months or so? Posting new pictures in old picture topics is also fine, because that comes under 'adding something new and/or interesting'. The "Things you've only recently discovered about the game" topic is one of the more used, so making a new topic for the exact same theme would be pointless. The much used topics that tend to die down once in a while are more the exception from the rule, because whenever people add something to them, it's usually something new or interesting.
But topics like old WCIFs, help topics or other little used topics are often in in the 'original poster has left the building' category, or the 'original poster has probably forgotten it or already fixed the problem' category, so reviving those topics often has little use. Posting "I'm looking for this, too!" in a WCIF topic from 2009 also isn't much helpful to anyone (and technically breaks more than one forum rule). That goes for posting a smiley in some random download thread from 2008 as a way to say thank you, particularly if the original poster hasn't logged in for 3 years (and yes, that frequently happens). If they post to say that the download has been removed and that they would like to find it, then that's more in the useful category. It's also very annoying for moderators when dead posts are revived with something that isn't much helpful to anyone, because we have to do the cleanup work. So unless you have something very useful to add that you think the original poster might benefit from, or something that you can't post in a better topic, then please don't revive old and/or little used topics. |
