Ok here is one of my houses. Its is small and boring. Its ok though Im not much of a builder anymore anyways. :D I gave that up to make stuff. This house looks like many other ones in my neighborhood but I really like this one. Its small so it loads fast and its still feels roomy.

Hah, dinksters - unfortunately that particular house uses a lot of OFB content, namely the doors, wallpapers, and the fact I'm using elevators in place of stairs. Throw a carton or two of cigarettes this way though, and I could change that. *chuckles*

Because I made it, just two stories on the side wings but still made
the roof as I did the wall wont work! Just half walls, I for got with out my mod this wont work;

Platinum - when you die, can I have your sims game? Your houses are amazing, any 'hood would sparkle with them! I have not nearly enough patience to create houses like that, and my compute would die with loading time. 10/10 work!

Beautiful, I love little classic houses with perfect white walls and cute gardens and ponds etc. Most of my houses are lame-fantasy, like the workshop I did.

God, Dinki, they're buff! I love the second one, although the first one is really creative, I can never get funky coloured walls to look good on any of my houses. You + 'Muse + Platinum should write tuts on good house building, you're all talented enough too.

This thread rox, I'll post some of my pics later.

Edit: Love the flowerbed, it's inspiring, I never put flowerbeds in, even though Maxis made fences for them. Promise guys, something stunnings coming soon! Oh, and before I forget, which EP do you think adds the best building tools? Personally I think OFB although NL garages are really great for certain styled houses/gardens. Open For Business adds awnings, I have no idea why, but they're quite buff hahahahahahah. Mwah.

I never found the awnings to be worthwhile for home building.  In fact, I haven't used any on community lots yet either.  The ones in game are just so...tacky.  lol

Mostly I use maxis homes or downloaded one's for my sims.
I made a view of my own but they are not worth uploading lol.

For the sims I made my own neighborhood called Tropica.
Now all the maxis sims live there too.
Was a big job to move them and restore all their relations lol.

Here are some screenshots of two houses I now working on.
They are now in ingame testing, with a family in the house to test them.

The first house is based on some floor plans from the internet.
The second is my fist try at an Asian style house.

Love the house good work Innocent. I like the flowersw on the roof it giveis a really elegent look. What's with the hot tube area do you not want you sims to run away while taking a dip?  And you say you can't make a house . You lie and I know how you hate to lie.

A few weeks back, I feigned my illness to stay at home and play The Sims all day. The results?

My "purple challenge"! It's basically the recolour set for Rainbow Lane (I've got pink, red, purple and blue), but this time I actually got off my lazy behind and decorated it :) The catch? Throughout the house, your eyes must be dazzle with purple. The more purple, the better! It can be indigo, liliac, burgandy. I have taken the word "purple" to a new level :D

Hehe, dinks - glad you like it, just uploaded it a moment ago. Also, you actually don't need OFB for either of my newest houses. I keep forgetting the split-level foundation tool comes with Pets too. Hah. OFB might be needed for some of the furnishing and/or walls and floors, but no huge deal. Just replace whatever is missing.

...and yup, room for a hot tub too. :D

I finally built my first loft and I LOVE how it came out.  Most of the custom content you see is from reflex sims, various peices downloads..

I got the ceiling tiles from MTS2 and Guns camera mod also at MTS2 allowed me to get these shots!  I'd upload the lot, but there is FARRRRRRRR to many CC peices to credit everyone LOL  This loft is just two stories with the ceiling tiles to block out the sky, and two story windows.

I LOVE IT!
In the second pic you'll notice that two of the rooms cut off at the top, thats only because I had the "cut away" walls on, I actually built those walls on the second level too, to give the real loft feeling... did I mention I officially LOVE this house? :)

I have a nightclub in Veronaville called "Stilletos" LOL I actually tried to design it like a shoe (a stilletto) but failed miserably and withered it down to a nifty little one story rectangle.  Im going to try the shoe idea again tho... one day lol

Thanks, Cinamun! It's funny, most of my industrial attempts usually end up as a little rectangle themselves :P

As for the street parking/sideways driveways, it's drop dead simple to do. I went ahead and wrote up a little tutorial on how to do this:

Sideways/On the Street Parking
Note: This tutorial requires the Nightlife expansion pack.

First, turn on the cheat "moveobjects on", and place any driveways you need to first. This is important, because you won't be able to do so after performing the next step. See the notes below for more information.

Secondly, select a floor tile (any), hold down control, and delete the tile as directed by this picture. Replace the tile afterwards with the "Discrete Concrete" tile, found under the 'Misc' category in the floor tile section.

Now, select a driveway extension piece, and you should notice it's horizontal. Congratulations! That's all there is to it. Now place the extension pieces wherever you need/want them.

Some Other Notes
- Once step 2 is performed, it becomes permanent. You'll never be able to revert any future driveways on the lot back to their normal vertical state. Also, moving any pre-existing driveways will cause them to turn horizontal as well.

- Placing cars on the street can potentially block any NPC services (maid, pizza delivery, school bus, carpool, etc) that visit your house. 

- The direction the extension pieces face seems to be random. Experiment with corner lots to get the direction you desire.

- Just for a bit of clarity, the above changes only affect the lot your performing them on. The rest of your neighborhood isn't affected.

This house is not compatible with Bluewater, cause the water line is too low there (check the second picture, water was sooo low there that I moved the house back to the house bin)

It was made on Toppenlo island terrain (from mts2) which obviously is lower and I doubt people will get the terrain just to have the house. So I won`t be uploading it.

If anybody wants it, just PM me. It requires pets though :P

Here's my Shinjuku District lot. It's in my Tokyo A Go-Go downtown neighborhood. The only downside is I took these pics without all my wonderful Japanese sims on the lot. =/

















I made all the Japanese writing wallpapers myself, as I'm learning Japanese and needed practice.

And this is my Sakura Village at sunrise. I tried to make it as authentic Japanese village-looking as I knew how. I just loved building it, and I love playing in it.

Custom plants/bushes/shrubs/trees look like they'll require a new Fall/Winter texture. Otherwise, they just stay the same year round. Honestly, not really a big deal.

But it [Maxis] said snow will fall on all CC - so now they've rendered our CC useless?

*shrugs* I remember them saying that too. I still don't think it's that big a deal really, just a matter of aesthetics.

Thanks, Jenna. Actually, I was considering doing that for a house I built on a 1x1 lot - it was compact, useable and came with this uber basement. Best part - no CC and under 20,000! I was this close to packaging it! On Sunday I'll post a pic of it and you guys can tell me what you think.
P.S It was themed "London" - you know, like the million pound houses that look like flats in Notting Hill? The shiny white ones with 2 floor tile balconies?

Hah, I love the challenge of doing 1x1 houses that both are useable and look nice. I've done several myself, and even uploaded one a long while back.

It has loads of levels, even a split staircase that rests on street level, but is inacessable to passer-bys AND it's built on a 1x1 lot. Cool, eh? No CC was used, I found that real hard, but because of this - I'm considering uploading it?

My sims have showed me what was wrong in the open plan kitchen, dining and livingroom.  I had to build a wall to separate the kitchen and the enviroment was better.  I was trying to see if I could make a fishing area in the back, but that doesn't work. Such a shame to have all that water and not able to fish in it, LOL. I will take pics and show my changes. Oh yeah, added parking in the street, want both of my sims to own cars. Hahhaha! Very nice oriental style home KacoshiAjewl, I like very much. How is having all the buildings working out for your sims, I mean with seasons (if you have it)?

My latest attempt at a mutilevel home. Left side back is the rec room, the main living area on the right side.  The pond is just lovely, I like it very much, but Karen is getting on my nerve with wanting to fish everyday. I just added a pool behind the pond.  Both sims are very active. LOL

I dont have Seasons and this perticular complex is actualy for a sim story I may or may not put up XD.  I like you house BTW realy nice

This is Nina Caliente and her 2 boys home. Split level. This is a first edition, I have added a basement and 2nd bath in Nina's house.  I was trying out split levels with the bedrooms on a different level.

:rofl: Thanx Comicalmuse... I had one complaint so far from one of my sims about the house that I put her and her family in... Every time she went up to the 3rd floor she kept complaining about something bad there and didn't stop complaining until I re-carpeted the entire floor... I had jusst finished the floor so there wasn't anything smelly there but she apparently thought there was :D

Hi girlie! Whats up, Comical? Thanks for the comment on my beach house.  I don't get to play so much anymore, cause I am back to work.  I only play on the weekends now.  When I stop being lazy, I will upload some lots here. See Ya!

I love this nightlife downtown home from the outside, but the insides suck. So I gutted the house and rebuilt the walls, extended the rooms on the inside added a basement, (it was already cut out in this house, just needed to make the elevation lowered), and here it is.  On the same style as the original, just changed the roof a little.

Here is the second house I ever built.  LOL  It resembles the first house my husband lived in after we got married.

This next one is a (well, sorta) colonial, with an attached garage. Has 3 bedrooms, large entry area, and basement. (When I took the pictures, I hadn't added the basement yet.)  It became a nice little space for the skill items and career rewards. I am testing it out with my Tester family to see what needs to be tweaked.

Flyleaf, I think it's a playable house.  What expansion packs you have?  If you have open for business, you can change the entire roof pitch to a lower one, maybe 28, the roof won't look so pointy.  If you have pets, I would change the front and side roofs to a smaller pitch.  

I don't usually play big roomy houses, 'cause of my slow computer, but the living areas are nice. Great pics.

I am horrible with roofs, so I (admittedly) concentrated more on the inside. I guess the size of the garage kind of messed me up when I tried to scale the rooms appropriately. (By the way, to answer your question, I have all the expansion packs.)

That's not too bad. Quite roomy and playable. Yeah, rooves can be tricky to get right; but it isn't so hard with practice. There's also some nifty building cheats you can use to adjust the slope/pitch of the roof.

Introduced with NL was 'roofslopeangle [15-75]', as lewis pointed out. With Seasons (and Pets), you can adjust it individually as well with 'individualroofslopeangle [15-75]'; although it requires a bit of an extra explanaition: place the roof segment, enter that cheat, then hold CTRL+ALT and click on the roof segment to adjust the slope. Voila! I've used it quite extensively in the last couple of houses I've uploaded.

Thanks Comical,  I got your last house. Larger lot size thou.  I will try playing it.  It will be good for my family or fortune sims. (I really hate the fortune sims).  I am preparing the colonial lot for upload, just finished tweaking it. Don't worry about mourning about my free time, I do enough for everyone, LOL.

Here is a downtown lot I am working on now. Haven't tested it yet, but I built it for my self-sim's son Brett and daughter in law, Meadow Thayer Abbott.  They have 2 kids with more on the way, and lots of money. Once I test it out, I will upload the lot.

mstybl95, great work on University of Illinois, Chicago.  I am not originally from Chicago, but love the hustle and bustle of this city. Never bored, especially if you live north by the lake. The one problem that I have is that when I build a 5th floor deck that I have to either use the Ascension - Elevator Stairs from MTS2 or an external 4th floor stairway to access it... Sometimes I use both... but it would be nice to be able to have a boxed-in covered stairway to the roof... I'm actually surprised that someone hasn't designed a stairway with some kind of covering for use with roof-top decks...

I am glad I found this thread to have a look at. I always thought I had a bit of a knack for designing houses but after seeing all of your designs here, I will just take my bruised ego and quietly slink off into the sunset........

To save room I used the the Ascension - Elevator Stairs from MTS2 in both houses but designed the second house with  emergency stairs on the back.

I have at least one set installed on most of my houses instead of the clanky elevators that take up too much room and always seem to break down.... The elevator stairs only take up one tile so they can be placed almost anywhere. I've used them from the base game up to GLS and haven't had any problems with them...

Most of my houses have a Star Trek food replicator installed to keep my untrained Sims from burning them down especially when I forget to install the sprinkler system and the smoke alarms... :happy8: And when the sims are done eating, a small flying robot disintegrates their plates so they don't have to worry about washing them... :smile:

Hey Danny, I see you are paring down a bit.  I like the house based on the movie.  Good job! LOL!

This is a night shot of the lot I built for Janet Jackson and her fiancee Lee Rodiek.  While their daughter was peacefully sleeping, they decided to have fun on the front porch.  Glad it was midnight or the neighbors would have had an eyefull.  Since Don and Cassandra Lothario live next door, Don might have liked this scene.

The house I had built originally had a bug on the lot, so I had to destroy it.  My nanny was always in errors. Ha!

I'm going to go crazy if I don't find out where the fountain in this picture is from.  I think I'm going to try and build and post some pics here.

Anyway if anyone can help me figure out where the fountain is from....

LOL!!! THanx lewisb40... I thought that the house was a cool design and one that I hadn't seen before so I decided to see if I could reproduce it... I decided to add a garage and a little workshop...

Sometimes my big houses scare me too... LOL!!!... especially since one of my families has 5 kids... Lots of places where a baby or toddler can get lost... or where one of the older kids can lose their homework... especially when it matches the carpet... :D  I had to install MTS2 Zoom mirrors in most of them to keep track of the guests that always seem to wander off on their own and pass out from exhaustion...

I have just about run out of ideas for large playable houses so I'm going to try to build a few smaller houses that everybody can play with...

Nothing Dinki, just decoration. Suppose to be on the "cracker" style.  I will upload pics of it.

Not that bad.My computer could handle that.I have 214 GB left on it out of 239.But seriously I do wish I had your downloads folder.I was so sad when I found out I lost everything.I had a downloads folder with atleast 2Gb of downloads.

My tower stopped working and so I had to get another one and when everything was done I went to check out my files and it said I didn't have access to it and my folder was empty.I was really upset.I lost my pictures and everything else.X(.What sites do you download from.Most of the sites I used to download from the owners closed.

It's always a good idea to make copies of your downloads and store them on a zip or flash drive... I'm up to 5.19GB with over 10,000 files in downloads and there's a few of them that would almost be impossible to replace...

I keep copies of them on a Western Digital 300GB My Book external drive and a smaller flash drive just in case something happens to my main downloads folder...  

Well anyway... I decided to make a slightly larger version of my little 2 bed house...

After the second time I lost my downloads folder, I finally decided to copy all the files just in case it happened again...

I managed to track most of the files down but I'm still missing a few meshes and at least 3 custom sims that I can't find anywhere... I get a lot of  my CC from MTS2 but everytime I have to go to another site to find a mesh, I tend to go just a little bit download crazy so it took me a while to replace the missing files.... :tongue8:

I understand.We all go a little crazy sometimes.I was just on a downloading spree.I told my self I was only going to get what I needed and I ended up getting what I wanted.

Dee, your house is fantastic.  Dee always make beautiful lots and one of the reasons I go downloading crazy.  This is the 4th time I reinstalled my game, and I had promised not to go nutzo, but I love decorations and when I find it, I download. I am now at 2.3 Gs.  Not bad, I don't want to be at 12 Gs like I was before. That's why I stay away from certain skins, but I loved the BB and Slim BB.  I miss them.

I don't usually do a lot of house making because it can be so time consuming, but this is the best house I ever made. I modeled it after my boyfriend's parent's beautiful home. I have more CC now than when I originally made it, so I will likely re-do it someday... but here it is.

I just totally gutted the inside of a copy of one of my first pre-nightlife monster houses and am in the process of giving it a complete makeover... It's a real monster... LOL!!! I'll post a few pictures of it when I finish moving the walls around for the rooms... I also went on a downloading crazy again yesterday and downloaded a whole bunch of new terrains, doors and windows...

Now this is a big house and it actually scares me... I built the original house  back before I had NL and just got done completely redoing the interior and adding a driveway as well as some landscaping... The original house had a half-sized basement with swimming pool. I eliminated the basement in this version of it and moved the pool outside... It's got three floors, 7 beds, 2master baths and 4 small baths... One of the master baths has 4 toilets and 2 ahower/baths...

The selling price was a little over 540,000 semi furnished... Definitely the most expensive house I've ever built... Thanx... It took me a while to perfect the hot tubs so that they looked more realistic... I was going to fill in the pond but decided to keep it... It was bigger but when I moved the swimming pool outside, I just narrowed it a bit and used a custom terrain on the edges to make it look almost real... There's even a special lillypad in the pond so that the family can even go fishing...

I built this house yesterday... It has a 2 car garage, dining room, kitchen, living room, TV room, 2 baths, a nursery, and 6 beds...

I usually build the house first but this time I built the pool area first then spent a couple of hours trying to build the right type of house to go with it... The undo button definitely got a lot of use that day...:happy8:

These are wonderful! When I got the core game, I made Torcher Island for all of my sims that I torcher (Isn't that nice of me?) and I thought that when I use the house it'll still be there BUT I was foolish and now the houses are deleted forever because I deleted the neighborhood! Now I have to make my own houses but they suck -_-

Wow, Dinky the bottom right one is something like the one I am about to upload, if my computer will finish defragging. 2 days, that's what I get for not staying on that. Whew.

This one I call the Quarry house because it was built right on top of an abandoned rock quarry in my custom neighborhood...

It has 4 beds with room to add more, 5 baths, a living room, skill building room, kitchen/dining area and a large swimming pool.

It's made up of two buildings as well as a detached two car garage. The first building has the kitchen/dining area and one large bath on the first floor and the skill building room with a small bath on the second floor.

I decided that since my new house was such a monster... and the kitchen was so far away from the master bedroom... that I needed a smaller kitchen and dining area closer to the bedroom...

The kitchen has a Star Trek food replicator, an emergency expresso machine that maxes all needs when necessary, a sink, a trash compactor, a dishwasher, a washing machine, a smart milk thing and a nursery fridge. The food replicator keeps my new sims from starving to death or burning the houses down until they gain cooking skills... It never breaks down and never needs to be restocked and can be used by guests who always seem to be hungry...  The nursery has two cribs and two one-tile changing tables...

I've got an ex-maid and ex-mail woman living in my Quarry house and they ain't too lazy but I did add a second kitchen near the bedrooms so that when they decide to have kids, mom doesn't get tired out trying to feed the babies... In my other house, I moved in two of my custom sims and one I found at the EA site and the three of them insist on using the regular stairs even though I installed 4 sets of the assention stairs... :happy8:

Hi all. this is the residential lot I'm working on at the moment. but its not for the sims with little purses.
 
This stately home was a ruin when Mr Peacock got his hand on this property at a steal price. With his deep pockets and imagination he has rebuilt the stately home and found a healthy balance between old and modern.
 
However Mr Peacock is never happy when he hasnt got a project on the go and with this one comming to an end and the new bonvoyage ep comming out shortly he had purchased some land with wonderful views that he intend to use and build one of the grandest hotels ever built. but he needs the funds so Mannor house is soon to be expected to be back on the market. Do you have deep enough pockets?
 
i hope you all like it. this is as far as i have got up to for now. hope to finish it in the next few days. the pics shows you the front, the back, the kitchen, dining area and family room. this is only half of the downstairs. theirs a formal livingroom, utilitly room, three bathrooms, w/c a huge study, a huge wine celler and pump room.. also in the back garden which you cant see along the side of the house is an undercover patio area thats huge for entertaining. i was half and half turning it into a community hotel but that would make the 2 doube garages pointless. but its a four/six bedroom house. depends if you want to lose the gym and the upstairs living room. theirs 4 huge bathrooms upstairs also their ensuits to four of the biggest bedroom and i mean they are huge.

I'm seriously thinking about uploading a few of my smaller houses and I might just upload the prison one too... It's partially based on the wing of an actual correctional facility that I toured a while ago. Unfortunately I was unable to visit the main cell block so I kind of left that section out... All I did was scaled down the size of the bedroom/dorm, increased the size of the bathroom a bit and added some privacy features so that more than one sim could use the bathroom at the same time... Other than that, it's pretty close to what I remember about the place... I'll have to temporarily move the family out and remove all the CC since I forgot to make a copy of the house before I moved the family in...:happy8:

This is one of my Curious houses... This one belongs to Vicund Curious and his family and it's the second house that poor Vicund was abducted from... :smile: Vicund got abducted before he moved out of the original Curious house and had boy/girl twins and just had twin girls this time around... lol... It might look big but it's only got 5 beds...  It's another old house but it's one that's been modified quite a few times. I built it when I only had the base game so I had a really hard time adding a driveway, but I did it...

Don't worry about the file size, that comes up automatically when you upload the file. Just have the lot info, like size (2X2, 3X2, etc.), cost of lot, what custom content is included.

Nice houses everyone! :worship: I haven't had too much time to do any serious building lately, just modifying some of my older houses for use in my new sub-hoods... But I've got a few new ones in the planning stage for a new hood that I'm thinking about building. :happy8:

I think of them in my head, or see a house in RL and try to recreate in my game. I don't think it's a real talent, but I think creating meshes or skins that's the real talent. All I do is use what others create. LOL :D

When you put the cars off the street like that, can they drive off Lewis? How do you even do it?

It's a tricky game cheat, I learned when nightlife came out.  You have to place the lot on a corner, here's the tricky part, you have to find the right corner for this cheat to work. I have to have "moveobjects on", get the short driveway piece, place it on the lot. Then delete the sidewalk floor tile across the street on the end from the lot you are building. I delete the one on the opposite end from the corner, but sometimes the corner end works well also. Pick up the short piece and see if it turns, if not then you have to find another corner to place a new lot. If the driveway turns, then place on the road where you want it. The schoolbus and carpool will adjust, where you need them.

After placing your on-street driveway, replace the concrete floor you deleted. There you have on-street parking. Oh yeah, if you want two parking spots, like in my pics, you put the straight one up first and don't move it when you make the street parking. After OFB, when you remove the sidewalk floor and replace it, all other driveways will turn vertical. Didn't do that before. :D

I remember where all the corners I can use to build these lots are located in my neighborhood, I don't place families there! LOL

Yay a split level.. At first I was completely vexed on the concept of split levels, now It seems quite easy. I wanna see too Sliim

I just finished this house. It was difficult because there is a middle layer that is even with the roof on the front. I dont like in the neighborhood view, how the wall gets cut out.. I had leveled it like you would the gagrage... I think it is a little bland, I might recolor the exterior..

Cool 8).  I play Pleasantview with 2 extra downtowns.  I just started building beach lots for Bluewater, but I am thinking of adding another sub neighborhood. Want to try out a new custom neighborhood I downloaded. :D

I never play the default one, and I'm too lazy to start a new neighbourhood, so it's just as handy to start over in a sub hood. I need more starter houses though. Your beach lots are amazing! :D

Hahaha, Skullbunny, I understand what you mean.  I had to take out the time to clear the families in Bluewater and then the businesses. That's why I didn't play that neighborhood for so long.  I like the OFB build mode, I don't play the businesses. So I go on a deleting party, except for a few, families, like the Tinkers and DeLaRosa. Thanks for the compliment on my beach lots. :D

Wow awtm, that lot is huge. Making pics of it, you would have to show it in 3 or 4 parts, LOL!  I am really interested in seeing the interiors. What neighborhood is that, a custom one? Looks cool! 8)

Yeah, its a custom. I can't play it though, it moves too slow. I have to stuff my family into a smaller house. "Back to the Drawingboard..."

LOL! So I am not the only one with that problem. :D

I wish their was a way to fix it without getting a new computer. HELP!!!

Here's a house that I built. I find that building upon smaller lots gives me better surface control and I am able to better design realistic dwellings.

Yep, see my computer is 5 yrs old. The most I could upgrade to is 1Gig RAM. That's why I must play small lots. :D

A new lot in my neighborhood, and I agree with Hunterkiller, I can make more realistic houses on the small lots.  BTW, that is lot is gorgeous. You make wonderful modern lots.

Thanks Sliim and Hunterkiller. I spent most of my time on the roof, LOL!  It took alot of work to get it kinda right :P. Trial and error. I still have to work on the inside a little. The upstairs is a loft and the stair placement has been troubling for me. Once I get it right, I will show it. :D

Lol. We moved. I can never seem to stay in one house for long. It's always seemed that way. I love my master suite for my alcoholic sims, though. I think I may have to get rid of some cc. I don't know what is what though.

It says I can go up to 4GB, but Do I have to buy each GB separately? They are expensive.

i own three houses at present, and i alternate between them whenever i choose. i only use my selfsim.
This house is called Tizer's Parachute Diver, due to the shape.

I remember when I used to build rather nifty houses. Now this is all I can come up with lately. While the challenge of having Sims in a prefab is fun, I wish I could get myself to build more than just boxes with windows these days.
