Title: Swimming pools
Post by: ToniW on July 05, 2005, 06:01:33 pm
On the exchange I see swimming pools in different designs. I can not figure out how to do that. All of mine are rectangle.

Well, I just experimented with one of the tutorials at that link, Kath!  It ain't perfect, but here's a look at my first attempt at a swimmable lake.  Thanks for the link!

Thank you!  I still haven't figured out why some of the edges work and some have gaps....so the the time being I'm filling them in with trees....but it kinda works!

Thanks for the comliments guys.  I've only ever built one house in TS2 ad that was way back when I first got the game in September.  Long before the good stuff had been figured out.  Since then I;ve been downloading and modfying.  I'm far more interested in the landscaping.  But tonight, I finally built my first real house with swimmable lagoon (the other pics were from a test lot, and there was no room for a house)......I still haven't perfected the water thing.....so I'm expermenting with a combination of lowering the pool walls and painting them.

It's 2:40 in the morning, and I have to be at work by 6:30....but my house sure is pretty.  I must share before I go to bed.  Thanks again for the links Kath'.....Night, night!

Really?  I've never uploaded anything before.  Don't even know how! lol!  Plus I have a whole mess of mods in my game and I'd hate to pass those on to anyone.   Plus it's far from perfect.  There're gaps in some corners  of the pool so I've filled them in with what looks like rocks, but they're actually a stone loveseat and chair.  If one of you guys wants it and can tell me how to package it 'clean' I can share, but I wouldn't want to make it available to the general Simmer populace until I master the art.

So lemme know what I have to do to make sure you don't get the mods. Do I pull out my mods folder (fortunately, I keep them seperate) before I package it?  There're also some new mesh objects (like the stones and some sea gulls.  I think I got the gulls and stone loveseasts from TSR though; but with the rotation system they have, I'm sure at some point they're free.   Is it ok to share that stuff for private use?

Go to the neighborhood screen and when you click on the house, instead of going on in to it, click the other icon, should give you the option to package the lot!

I think SimReal house is in need of a skinny-dipping pond if it ever gets ressurected.

Of course, after that, you need to click the 'add an attachment' button at the bottom of the text box when you're posting a new topic for downloading this...or you can just post it here.

Hope this helped and H.A.N.D!

I gave up on building cheats...I spent hours building a tree house....I mean a real treehouse for the game, not just a house on top of a tree like I have seen so many do...but with the floors intermingled about the branches...was really cool...then I tried to get fancy and use the cheats to build a pool...messed up my treehouse completely.  I was so bent...I'll leave the build cheats to others.

On another note...I hope to soon get back to the simreal house...just have to get my time on a budget again...*le sigh*

Not to be a pest, but the file is huuuuuuuuge.  Even zipped it's 63MB.  That' just seems enormous!  Have I done something wrong? Most lots I've downloaded are in the 20-30MB range (unzipped).  Could it be because of the elevation tricks involved in manipulating the lot with the swimming pool tool? Is there some other trick involved in packaging that I'm missing?

woah that doesn't seem right at all. As I haven't packaged a lot before I don't know what you might be missing. Maybe when Sleepy comes on she can tell you.

Yeah......I think I better.  I'm gonna go download a few equivalent type lots from TSR and see how far off my monster-house is.

hmmm I recall reading something about large sized Lots, has to do with how the game packs them with custom content. *isn't sure how to explain*

from what I understand it basicly packed alot of extra stuff along with what you actually used, ie; every recolor of every custom thing you used *mutters about Maxis*

I'm not sure how you could trim it down without removing all the custom content...well if you know every file you actually used, then you could remove all your other custom content(everything that wasn't used) and open the game and repack the Lot  :dontknow:

Lots of custom skins are probably in it....that does happen too...

I opened it with clean installer.  There're no skins, and just the list of items that are on the lot; but maybe it's somehow stlll attaching all the colour-options etc. (I have hit the 10,000 item mark in my downloads).  I'll do some research at MTS2 and the offcial site!  Stay tuned.....
