Same here, I found out my mum was pregnant when I was 17. I was not happy at first because I am not fond of kids but I'm used to it now, and the baby boy is actually a cutie...so well behaved for a baby, and he smiles to me (while he only gives my mum worried looks!)

So its not too bad :)

Well, I have a 5 year-old half-brother...and I'm 28 now. He is quite the cheeriest little boy I ever did see...initially I felt strange about the prospect of having a baby brother or sister when my mother got pregnant, but I came to accept it.

I would want a sister too, because a house full of boys can get very annoying!

Congratulations on your Mum having another baby! Don't worry about the age difference! That's irrelevant. And Leanne, are you sure you want a sister? With me three girls they certainly know how to have a good barny!

There's a 17 year gap between me and my older brother, and my older sister is 15 years older than me. My younger sister is two years younger than me. There's a big gap, because when I came along, me Mum and Dad were well into their forties. Apparently, I'm the result of a bloody good holiday in Blackpool! Me Mum was going through the tail ends of 'the change'. She thought that she couldn't get pregnant anymore. Little did she know! And then me sister came along, as Mum and Dad decided to try for another baby after I was born. I love that the two older ones are much older, as it were like having another set of parents. Not for parenting, but, because they were adults and it just felt so comforting. I used to love it when they looked after us. We're a very close family, me older sister lives next door. It's like the age difference doesn't matter at all. We all love each other, and that's what counts.

Its strange seeing all these responses of people with lots of siblings. I just have one brother who is 2 years older than me. I do wonder what it would be like with a sister, but I wouldnt change my brother at all, hes great :)

My mom had a baby when my older sister was 18. At that time, I was 9 and my younger sister was 7, so I know how the age gap things go.
As for getting along with siblings, I don't really get along with my younger brother, because we don't have much in common, my younger sister and I get along sometimes and have some mutual friends, but my older sister and I are the closest of us 4 kids and I actually stay with her most weekends.

So, I guess the age gap can be good or bad, depends. My older sister is 9 years older than me and we get along fine, my younger brother is 9 years younger and we dont really talk.

My oldest brother was 18 when I was born and I don't really know him at all, so make sure you're there to watch this young one grow up! I've been told that if you can catch little brothers early enough, you can train them not to be a pain in the butt, although I have no experiance in this because I am the youngest child of seven! Best wishes to your mum and all of you!

Girls arn't the best for little sisters. I have 2 and it isn't a piece of heaven. They argue and have really bitchy little fights! I'm so over 8 and 6 year old girls. My sisters think they know everything! At least my brothers arn't that bad..

Things have taken a turn for the worse :-( when he was born he kept turnin blue, since then he has now got jaundice, and developed an infection. he been put in special care at the hospital. He is just so lifeless and sleepy. Doctors think it was because he was two weeks early and his immune system can't cope as well. I'm so scared for him, annd i just want him to get better.

Just spent 6 hours at the hospital, he back out of special care but has to go back and forth for injections. They found out he has strepticocus B, and because it was found early they will be able to cure him with antibiotics, lucky they found it early because it can lead to meninigitus and life threatening diseases. He was more alert today, and doesn't cry much at all!

Charlotte, that's gratifying to find out that the little guy is going to be better soon, I'm very happy for your mother and you, and the whole family! Good news on my front, as well! My son, the one who everyone thinks is mentally backwards, has begun to TALK! Finally, at three and a half years of age, my little dude is speaking in words that I can understand! I've waited for this day for so long... Yeah, he's still shy about talking, but dang! I can understand him and KNOW that the lights are truly on upstairs, ya know?

He started walking at ten months and climbs like he just came out of the trees, and when he was smaller, he used to make all of those cute baby noises. Those stopped when we moved households twice in three months... You think he just could have felt insecure and now that we've lived here for about two, three years in this house, he may feel secure enough to talk again? One time I asked why he didn't talk more, he looked at me and said, "don't want to," as he walked away from me...

Very sweet looking, but you do know the rule, right? The cuter the child looks when a newborn, the more of a hellion they grow into... At least, that's the case I've often found with kids I've known.

He's a cutie!

It took my autistic son until three to learn to talk also.  We initially thought he was deaf.  At age nine he tends to perseverate (talk about over and over) on things he's interested in such trains or favorite videos, or this month (again I have no idea why or where it comes from!) geese!

My brother used to be obsessed with Thomas the Tank engine. Yeah.. and then there was 5! My mum didn't think she would have any more, but she got a big surprise! There 2 girls and 3 boys. I feel sorry for people who have that many kids so young at one time!! Ic ould barely look after one never mind more! I think it's common for autistic children to have a fascination with Thomas the Tank Engine.  My guess is the round eyes and easy to guess emotions, maybe similar to Dora the Explorer.  My son has had strong interests with both.

Meanwhile I'm glad that your brother has gotten much better!:)

My parents had six kids all under the age of eighteen at one time. When I was born, one sister was four, one was eight, the other was ten, one brother was twelve and my other was sixteen. The oldest brother was exactly eighteen, so yeah, we had quite the household! There were three boys and three girls, so I was supposed, note that I said supposed to be the tie-breaker on the side of the males, but... Mom didn't get her way and Dad did! Yep, he wanted another girl... Although, I was such a horrible tom boy that he may as well have gotten another son! I was never girly and cried when I had to wear a dress and ruffle-butt tights... Which was pretty much every day until I was in second grade! Dresses, bleh!
I'm really glad that your brother got to go home, and that you had fun giving him his bottle. And nope, not going to think you're going to want one of your own any time soon! The time of being young and responsible for only yourself is short so you should enjoy it until you truly figure out what you want to do with your life. Nothing wrong with being a mother, don't get me wrong, but be young while you can!

Wow. If I found out my mom was having another baby I'd DIE. I'm 13, and I already have 3 brothers and 1 sister. They're ALL a pain in the arse! I big one! They're all younger than me.

Bro-11
Bro-8
Sis-6
Bro-4

They are little demons sent to ANNOY ME!
My mom is actually a terrible mother (You don't know her, you're lucky..)
and if she had another I'd move in with my real dad.

And my dad told me that the older you are when your pregant, the more dangerous it is. It's more chance for the baby and the mother to die. He suggests 35 or under, if you have it in your 40's, wowza, slight chances there!
My mom had me when she was about 23 or 22. I think she had me after she married my dad, then had 4 more, and then got divorced. Thanks alot, mom.  1headwall

Well congrats on the little brother, happy he's okay! :3

I'm closer to my aunt's age than my mom is, and they're sisters xD

My girlfriend's oldest brother was twenty-one when their little sister was born a couple of years ago. He's now the oldest of seven kids in her family, so I could understand why he was kind of ticked off when he found out his mom was pregnant again! Right now, my girlfriend is the oldest child in the house. She has two older brothers in college, and four younger siblings to look after. I'm honestly not too crazy about younger kids, especially since my brother's fourteen months younger than me and I have no other siblings, but I'm slowly starting to get past it. I mean, the longer you're around smaller kids, the more used to their antics they get, know what I mean? :P

Babies are the reason that anyone that is a parent never sleeps soundly for the rest of their life, drives a new car every five year and is constantly short on groceries. And you know what? I wouldn't trade mine for billions of dollars, even if the oldest one and her husband are moving in with us for awhile due to the financial climate in the country right now. Want to know why I wouldn't trade them? Cause I love 'em, pure and simple.

I'm not a parent myself, but about to become an aunt for the second time.
My brother and his girlfriend are having another boy in a few months (Considering how much my nephew resembles a rocket, I don't exactly envy them when they get another to run after... But I wish them all the luck in the world :D)

Two of my cousins are also having babies around the same time, so that makes three new babies after Christmas (and as far as I know, they're all boys... ). One of them was going to have twins not long ago, but lost them both. So hopefully this time things will work out fine. The other cousin has three kids already.

There has been a real baby boom in my family the past few years. Adding my 4 year old nephew, and several of my cousins' younger kids into this - then we almost have an entire football (soccer) team when they're teens :D

Haha, a soccer team! That's good!

Well, I only have 2 nieces a nephew, and a few cousins that are under 4 as of now...  :'(

I had forgotten this thread! Marcus is now nearly 3, and is proving to be a very intelligent toddler!
