Title: Are you wondering if Seasons will run on your computer?
Post by: Sleepycat on February 26, 2007, 04:58:25 am
over at the mts2 community forums mildlydisguised posted about this handy little requirements test site

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

Quote
What it does
System Requirements Lab looks at your computer's hardware and system software to determine whether or not your current system can run a product. Each of your computer's components is evaluated to see how well it meets the minimum and recommended requirements for specific products. Recommendations are made on how to update or upgrade each component which does not meet the listed requirements. Sometimes it is a simple free software download and sometimes it is a link to a product such as the right video card.

my results (for Seasons) were:

 :smile bi:

I've been debating about updating my drivers but I'm not sure how the newer ones are and I usually go by "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"   :goofy:

Great link Sleepycat! Perhaps this will answer a lot of the redundant posts on the "Do I need a new video card?" forum,....errr I mean the general help forum! :)

Test didn't pick up on my SLI setup but then I really didn't expect it to. I know my system can run it but I did want to see what it would say.

I'm more concerned about what Seasons is going to ruin on my computer ;)

I am a bit disapointed with the test they ran. They say my graphics card will not run Pets or Seasons. I'm not sure what kind of information they are using but the ATI 200m chipset is basically an early mobile version of the x300 pcie card which is on the list at The Sims 2 site for both Pets and Seasons! It was sort of funny that they said "Sorry, Your system Failed!" But in the extended breakdown of the graphics test their check ran my card passed all of them. I guess it will be ok as a rough guide though. :)

Also bookmarked - passed on both, but it had doubts on my existing sound card. I have a new one in the post so I'll run it again when I get it.

Well, it did tell me the following, use your own judgment here:
Quote
You Have: 3.44 GHz Performance Rated at 5.16 GHz
I have a 3.2 GHz P4 Prescott, it is overclocked to 3.44. If I ran it up to 5.16 I think I could smoke it, even in this super-cooled case.

Yes I agree with you Sleepycat! I do a lot of reading on graphics cards and chipsets and such. Most people who play the sims 2 would probably think I am a most boring person! I like running these tests to learn. So it was still very worthwhile to me. As I posted originally I hope this will cut down on all the redundant posts about graphics. It looks like this thread may get a lot of replies! Thanks again for this link.

I will sure read up to puke before I buy any new Expansion. My systems will sure pass but I'm much more worried about what Seasons or further will ruin in My gaming way.
Not sure if my second comp will support the EP but anyway I would risk it first if analysing a new add-on. I'm so satisfied with the result I got up now that risks for me are really risks.

I did not  bother running the test..why because I know my  processor is too slow at 1.3 MHZ.... Everything else would pass..I looked into replacing and/or Double Clocking the processor.. but so far I have not had to...

I have Seasons and have played it for 24 hrs... yes the game runs a bit slow and occasionally freezes if I have too many Sims on a lot or try to give too many commands.... but I already know that I need a new computer... I am just waiting til the get the bugs out of Vista.......

Thanks for the link.... but with all the puter problems I have had in the past year I am very familair with my hardware and software..

my video card didn't pass for reccomendation, but passed as a minimum.

I got this:

Quote

Recommended: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or greater; ATI Radeon 9600 or greater.
You Have: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE (GeForce 6150 LE)  FAIL: Sorry, your video card does not meet this recommended requirement. Upgrading to a more powerful video card will make all your applications look better. Click the 'We Recommend' button to see some great options.
Video Card Features - Minimum attributes of your Video Card  Video RAM: Required - 128 MB , You have - 256.0 MB
Video Card 3D Acceleration: Required - Yes , You have - Yes

Well it says I failed with the graphics card, but Seasons still runs on my laptop fine, even with all settings set as high.
*shrugs* it can lag a little at times though.

Too bad I can't update it though on a laptop.

Poison, my desktop worked with an intel chip. It didn't lag or anything. I upgraded anyways cause I got some money to spend on me but it worked just fine.

It works, lags a bit, but other than that it's good. The lag may be from so many of my downloads and what not. I know my desktop actually manages to handle the game worse, but then again that doesn't matter because my desktop is dead at the moment. Oh, and I also can't make videos on my laptop but it takes a lot of work anyways so it doesn't bother me any since I suck at them.

It failed to detect my SLI as well. My AMD 3800+ was at "2.01 Ghz rated at 5.70 Ghz"... that seems to be stretching things just a "little" to say the least. Oh well, still a handy thing to give peeps the basic knowledge of what's lurking in your tower. Thanks...
