I saw a thread on this earlier, but its been closed as "resolved" without there actually being a fix for the problem...

Has anyone found/created a possible fix for this yet? Its super annoying!

I believe it was a community lot sleeping hack that was causing that problem, that is why I closed that thread :)

I still have the sinking pet thing, but i never used a hack for community lot sleeping

I have no hacks in at all because the game loads faster to get my screenshots ....and my pets sink into the floor :)

yes...like we didn't have enough already :)  They should test the game before releasing it.

I don't think they did test it there is no way they could have missed that bug :)

I had the same problem with my pets sinking into the ground, not being able to control sims, plus not being able to use the create family screen properly. When the game loads it tells you what custom items and mods conflict with the game's behaviours  using sims2pack clean installer i went through to see if these custom content + mod files were highlighted in red (conflict) and deleted files that i didn't really use or that were empty. By doing this i was not only able to use create family option properly but my pets are running around firmly on the ground and my sims are controllable again.

if you don't have the clean installer i would recommend getting it from modthesims2 it really is a great thing to have.

From what I have been reading it looks more like that sinking feeling is bug and not hack related. It is most likely to happen as explained above when motives, especially comfort and bladder are low.

I have this same exact problem...my pet will randomly sink into the floor and then a screen will come up saying there was an error and i have to delete, reset, or cancel. If i delete then i delete the dog and have to go back to the neighbor hood and then back into the house again to see the dog. If i reset the screen just keeps poping up again and same thing with cancel. One thing i did find that does help this glitch is if u use the cheat boolprop ControlPets and then make the pet who's sank do something like go to sleep on the couch or in a dog bed then they come out of sinking

I did that in the end...i also prefer to play with testingcheats enabled..but it just got too annoying to direct them all th time and it kept happening when the action i gave them was done, so i finally turned TT off and they can keep swimming in the ground untill someone can find a fix...:)

The only time my pets sink is if they want to use an object another pet is using. Instead of the "waving arms-stomping feet" thing, they just sink into the ground. I think maybe they might be missing an animation for "frustration" at not being able to use an "in use" object.

By the way, if you have four food dishes all filled, they will still sink into the floor next to the one food dish some other pet is using. Ditto with the pet beds. No matter how many you have, the pet will sink into the floor next to the occupied bed rather than bothering itself to find another empty pet bed.

Modders are aware the "pet ownership" code in the game is messed up. Give it a little bit, and someone will have a fix for this.

A friend of mine had the sinking pets scenario. He took out the hacks  sit on floor to watch TV ,objects-floating-aspiration plus sleep on community lots and it was fixed.

I had the sinking phenom one day only. I took out the old community sleeping hack and I haven't seen it since. Squinge has since updated the hack to PETS compatibilty, which is now in my game, and, happily, I am not seeing the pet sink hole.

I don't have that mod in and did experience the sinking pet problem.  Thing is the bladder and energy was high.  I strongly believe it is an EA bug.  It happens when they are on the grass, on floors it seems ok.

My prob was the community sleeping hack.  I had left the lot with the cat in the ground and it was removing the sleeping hack that made her pop up and go to sleep.  I still have the sit on floor to watch TV hack--removing it didn't resolve the prob for me.  I do have a weird thing that is happening,but it is not bad enough to do the hack tango.  Whenever a child is talking to another child they pop up and down--isn't that weird.

The same here as far as the being unable to actually play lots with pets cause whenever I enter I have to delete them until I can play, cause of tha pop up error message. But it only happened when a pet arrived to a lot, not on the lots that had pets already, there I just had to reset everytime someone interacted with the pet, but at least the were still there!
And I disabled all my hacks and mods and even some of my downloads but nothing. I never downloaded a sleeping mod so damn you EA bugs!!!

I took everything out & still have it. the testing cheats keeps them from dying till i can get them restored enough not to disappear beneath the earth :)

If you use the boolprop controlpets on cheat, just command the sunken pet to do some other activity, and they will pop right up and go on their merry way.

I never used any of the mods that other people are blaming for this. All the mods I use have been pet approved and verified to not cause trouble. It *may* be a conflict of some kind between mods, but you aren't the only person with no mods to still have the problem.

Check out what the pet is doing just before sinking, and my guess is they were trying to use an object another pet is using. That cause has been quite consistent in my game. Not random, at all.

... Pets glitches.... I've played the game without any hack, and the pets are quite frequently sinking in the ground randomly. And i just CAN'T use the "controlpets on". Everytime i just pass the mouse over the pet, i have the dialog with cancel/reset/delete where cancel doens't work - so i always reset. I've given up controlling the pets.. for now.

It sounds to me like you might have some hacks that you didn't realize you had.  Try running Clean Installer to make sure all your hacks have been removed.

I have not seen this sinking pet problem. If I had it I would figure out a way to make every stray in the game sink out of sight, Muhaha.......I guess that wasn't very nice was it?

the only sinking i've had is with the "stage" foundation. I made a raised living area for the pets and when on that they had a couple episodes of sinking. But i haven't had it anywhere else. Only hack i have is the insimanator.

I had the same problem, but after removing the community lot sleep hacks and every other hack with relax and woohoo, (ie casual mods, bed, hottub, photobooth, etc), then everything went back to normal.  I don't have a sinking problem anymore.  Will be happy to have my casual relationships back, though, I miss them.

i have had it whit a sim..she was going to swim and after that she keeps swimming true the house she sim to bed,to cook ...everyting, so i had delete her

Wow havent had any pets sinking into the floor instead I had my 2 alien colours dogs floating whilst their arms turned backwards.  Lol at first I thought is was an alien thing happening then the lightbulb came on (I am thick in the head sometimes)

Hi. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, but the dogs or cats are still swimming inside the floor.  I researched but found only one person with this same problem on this site who included a photo of the problem, but no answers.  Is this a glitch or do you think it's a conflict with a specific file/hack/lighting/floor?  Please help if you know the answer.

It's caused by a mod conflict I believe.  I can't remember which one though.  There is a bug with Pets that pets will momentarily sink into the ground similar to the jump bug, but they pop right back up with it.

Does anyone know which mod could be causing the conflict?  Thanks Ancient and anyone else for all help!

I had the same problem and deleted the house as well as the hacks and am slowly in the process of putting them back in. I do not know which it was but, I got ticked and started the family all over again.

I must say that I also had a problem where I could not place a door or window and with that I deleted all of the hacks as well. The programs that they have out did not find the problem so other than doing as one site suggest and that was remove the hacks and put them in a different area and then input them back in the game one at a time which is totally time consuming when you have hundreds I just deleted and only put in ones that I totally trust now.

Problem Solved!

I removed all my 200 behavior modification hacks, then split the folders in half repeatedly and put them back in the downloads folder and restarted the game until I found the file.  It turned out to be one file, and of course it was the last folder (smile to myself).  It didn't take terribly long to find it.

Squinge of Inseminator has done hundreds of fabulous hacks.  I got the idea how to solve the problem from a sticky on his site where he lists the ones that conflict with Sims2 Pets (see below for conflicts).

For some reasons my dog, whenevre I am not controlling her, she stops moving and basically sinks into the ground. My sims can not interact with her and she does not move at all unless I control her too. This only happens on residential lots. When I went to a community lot there was not problem. I already tried uninstalling my hacks but that did not work. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreaciated. I am also attaching pictures of the problem so you can see what I am talking about.

I know that there was a problem with an old version of Squinge's community lot sleeping hack that caused this issue.

But recently I am seeing many complaints of this from people with absolutely no custom content.  It appears to be a game-bug.









As you can see there are lots of possible causes and solutions.  I know that from time to time the game (but most especially Pets EP) gets confused about the Z-axis position of things (distance from ground) - a foundation, stage, deck, swim in the pool, or anything that involves a change in elevation will start the bug.  Some mods aggrivate this bug, some make it happen constantly; but in the final analysis it is a Maxis-made foobar-bug that will require a patch by Maxis/EA to fix completely.

Hi Squinge,  Sorry for being a nuisance whilst you are busy but I just wonder if you know if one of your mods could possibly be causing the pets to sometimes sink into the ground.  I have disabled the ones you said to disable but I don't want to get rid of them all as they are so useful. I only ever get my mods/hacks from you.

Do you have the inteen or the insim installed?
Or did you at any point have them?

No I never had the inteen or anything else other than squinges mods.  except I do download stuff like game objects etc from other sites.

Someone else reported this same problem without any hacks installed, it may be a maxis bug.

Yeah, it all the suddens happens if you are not interacting with the pet.  It's like the pets have no 'free will' and they just sink and are stuck there.  Yeah know, I am gonna try remove all the hacks again.  Maybe it will miracoulsly work this time.  It is so strange because before none of my hacks caused this problem.

I thought it might have been due to a hack so I removed all my hacks and it still happened. Then, I removed my whole downloads folder and... it still happened. Must be a Maxis thing. Hope they fix it. It wasn't happening to me until I installed seasons though. There must be a conflict with seasons and pets or something. Hopefully they can fix it with a patch or something. It's like the infamous jump bug all over again, but with pets.

Same with me.. I didn't get it until I installed Seasons EP.

I get the jump bug too.. Creepy children floating mid air over your bed.. it's enough to scare anyone! But at least that one doesn't kill things or make it impossible to play the game correctly..

Me three!

I never saw a single "in-ground" pet untill after I installed Seaons. Thankfully it doesn't stop the game or anything (the pet in question just popped right back out) it was just strange.

I'm also glad to know that the floating kid thing isn't just happening to me.

Like you said, at least it doesn't blow up the game or anything!

As long as my game "corrects itself" (i.e. doesn't blow up) I can happily live with a few quirks!
