Title: Any artists on InSim?
Post by: Shastania on June 07, 2007, 06:40:59 am
Not strictly limited to recolours, meshers and creators, I was wondering if there are any other artists on the forum such as writers, painters, drawers/cartoonists, musicians, poets and every other artist I can think of.

This here thread is intended as a place to talk about your trade or hobbie, exchange secrets, tips, tricks and hints as well as showing off your wares.
So, on that note:
My DA Gallery (http://shastania.deviantart.com/)

I'm sort of a jill-of-all-trades. I dabble in photography and the occasional piece of writing but strictly speaking, I'm more an anime/ manga artist that anything else. However, I'm currently trying to improve on my 'real' style artwork so any tips or helpful hints would be greatly appreciated. ^.^

I used to draw a lot ages ago, and I was fairly good at it too. I am still capable of doing so, but right now I'm very much burnt out, sadly. No matter how much appraisal my artwork got whenever I did draw, I always felt there was something I could improve on.

Let's see...I draw, paint, sculpt, sew, do beadwork, write, sing...and I used to do a lot of acting.

Hmmm...pics of something to share with you all...ok. Here's a bear I made for my younger sister a couple of years ago (everything she's wearing I made as well...click for a bigger pic of the bear):

The back of a 16th Century Spanish gown I made (me in the red velvet monstrosity...squatting down in a corset and farthingale is a neat trick, I tell you)

The bouquet I beaded for Jax when she renewed her vows with her hubby:

Wow this is cool who knew that so many people where so arty.

I write poetry and am working a two novles that I hope to be published.

I love to draw. I don't think I' good at it, but all my friends tell me I'm great. I have a hart time believing that, but they must think I can do something cause I'v ended up drawing more tattoos flash for people then I ever would have thought.

I'm a photographer. I only use black and white on oldfashon flim. I will never go digital. Once you've been in a darkroom there is no going back. There is something about being in the dark room and watching the photo slowly apper on the paper. That is something the computer will never replace.

I do paint from time to time, but not as much as I do everything else.

I'm kind of like Joy up there, but don't have a whole heck of a lot of time to do anything lately and right now, the spark of creation just isn't there. I have some of my older stuff up on MySpace and its open for the public to view, but to read the blogs and stuff you have to be on my friend list. I don't have the time or the umph to do anything new at the moment, mainly what I've been doing is just writing stupid posts and such. I even gave up cooking for now, which is something I dearly love to do. Just don't see much point, to be honest....

Cool thread ..
When I was in High school I won 2nd place for my home state in a Scholastics Art Contest way back in the 80s in Fine arts. Mostly Pencil and Charcoal stuff.
I like crafts also. I like to quilt and sew. I stiched up (needlepoint) a pinup patch by hand for my SO recently.
I have drawn commisioned wedding portraits and sketched tattoos for my buddies... from various pinup tattoos to my SOs gargoyle(SP) oh and a John Wayne tattoo ages ago.
I am just learning photoshop though. I just recently bought a pen to use on the computer. Whoa the computer is very different though. I still draw the old fashioned way when the mood strikes. Still life and scenic stuff is what I like to draw.

WOW so many talented people.
Well I have been  a long time writer. I write poetry, stories, and sometimes lyrics. The only thing I have been published in is a college magazine. I'm usually to shy to share my work. I recently performed the V-Monologues on stage. I paint with water colors, I draw every once in a while. I crochet blankets and donate them to Project Linus, make jewelry, scrapbook, I sew, make quilts. and just about anything else I find interesting I try.

That's a tough industry to break into. I wish you good luck!

Thanks, I need all the luck I can get! Here's part of the first chapter. Anyone who has feedback/criticism/prasie please give it to me! Be honest!

Chapter One

My mom had me doomed at the start. I feel kind of bad blaming her, because it wasn’t here fault she was such a klutz. Well, it was, but I feel a little better when I pretend it’s not.
I knew of several incidents where my parents tried to play that game where they throw the baby up in the air, baby squeals with delight, parents catch baby, and repeat. Well, my parents forgot about the low ceilings.
My parents, knowing I had a severe allergy to mosquitoes, let me go outside by a pond in the dead of summer, and just forgot about me. Needless to say, the results were nothing less than catastrophic when they finally remembered me and I couldn’t see them because my eyes were swollen shut.
On my third birthday, my parents took me to the pool. It’s always so much fun when everyone pushes the birthday girl in the pool and everyone laughs. I don’t think anyone expected me to hit my head on the shallow pool floor, where a trip to the ER was required to fix the gash in my head.
The worst part is that none of those are even the worst incidents. The absolute kicker occurred at a Target Sunday afternoon, where everyone goes and buys stuff after church. So of course it was completely packed. I do believe I was about six years old.
My mom decided she needed a box of tampons. The very box that was on the top shelf. My poor mom never reached even a height of 5’5 and there was no way with her short stub arms that she was going to reach it. She came up with the brilliant idea for me to get on her shoulders and I could get the box. Still, I could barely reach.
Bzzzzz. Bzzzzz. Bzzzzz. Mom looked down to her vibrating pocket, only to see her cell phone vibrating.
“Hurry, hurry,” she pleaded. “It might be an emergency.” I strained to reach the box.
All I got to say is that phone had a powerful vibrate. Mom began to shake as the phone’s vibrate got stronger. So, of course, me being on her shoulders, I began to vibrate along with her.
My hand shook as it tried to grab the box. “Hurry, hurry, hurry, I’m about to drop you,” Mom informed me. I frantically grabbed onto a box and my mom collapsed underneath me.
My first instinct was to grab the shelf. So picture this: a scrawny six year old girl holding onto a Target shelf while, get this, her mom doesn’t help her down, she answers her phone.
Poor me is hanging on, when an unsuspecting civilian passes by, humming and wheeling around his squeaky cart, when he passes the feminine hygiene aisle and sees me hanging of the shelf while the lady next to me jabbers on the phone.
“Ma’am,” the man stammered to my mom. “I think, I think your daughter needs some help.” He looked very helpless and obviously didn’t know what to do.
Mom rolled her eyes. “I hadn’t noticed,” she said sarcastically. She closed the phone, looked at me, and laughed. “Um, you can get down now,” she told me impatiently.

I often find myself dabbling in all sorts of forms of art.

Lately I've been drawing with charcoal, which I love.  I use ink once in a while, I played around with it when I was studying 3D Animation (while writing storyboards).  I also have painted with watercolors, oil, pastels, and colored pencil, but none of those have been my 'thing.'

I love digital art.  I started doing some pixel art a while back and I absolutely love it.  I also love Macromedia Fireworks 8 for my comics, which I do sometimes.

I'm also a songwriter.  I have big notebooks full of songs, most of which will never see the light of day.  It's quite the way to get the bad thoughts out and to a better use.

I'm also a poet and fiction writer.  I wrote a book when I was in 8th grade, it had gotten up to 34 chapters before the computer crashed and I lost everything.  Regardless, I continue on with short stories and poems, not wanting to force myself into dragging a story on too long.  When I do, they die off slowly towards the end, losing grip with what it was about in the beginning.  An issue I find myself addressing and fixing slowly but surely.

I also draw tons of clothing and patterns for clothing, it's incredibly fun!  I love making dresses out of old T-shirts too.  And I used to make dread-falls, with artificial hair.  But that got really, really old.

It's nice to see all these artists here, I love artists and I wish for all the best for you, so long as you don't lose touch with reality if you become famous.  ;)

Funny I only dreat art for me. I do wish that my two stories and my poems be published, but I never really want fame. I do what I do cause it help me feel better when I'm blue. If I become famous because of this I don't know what I would do. I don't liek people talking about me or seeing my face all over the place. infact becoming a big famous writter would be the last thing I want.

I write film scripts, novels, poetry, stage monologues, a few songs here and there. And I draw. Most of my writing involves warfare (I've actually written two erotic war poems, hehe creepy), and if it doesn't involve warfare, it involves the meaning of life. My drawings vary. All of my stuff can be found at http://snoopyfemme.deviantart.com (http://snoopyfemme.deviantart.com).

My hubby is the artisic one, he's an oil painter & developing woodworker. He's had numerous pieces shown in local galleries. But sad to say, his hands can't do it anymore. He's been in the auto industry for years now, and he's lost the fine touch he was proud of & simply can't concentrate on his work. That's aging for you! Now he's more focused on creating works for our home, and is currently designing a bar. The first didn't work out so well, (darn fish tank leaked in it :( ) and had just torn it apart. He'll sketch and resketch designs all day until he's happy, and his projects usually turn out quite well.

I was very fond of writing poetry & short stories & watercolour painting, but simply cannot find the time for it anymore.

Rest of Chapter One

Mom rolled her eyes. “I hadn’t noticed,” she said sarcastically. She closed the phone, looked at me, and laughed. “Um, you can get down now,” she told me impatiently.
Well, no duh, Mom. Do you think I decided I was going to hang off this shelf in sheer terror because I wanted to? If I had of been thirteen like I am now, I would have told her that. But being six, I hadn’t quite developed my “attitude” (as Mom calls it), and replied with a wimpy, “I can’t, Mommy.” It shames me to know I was such a wimp.
Mom shrugged. “Well, I don’t know how to help you.” She looked at me, and cocked her head like that would somehow help me get down. “Try jumping.”
Are you beginning to see what I mean? I couldn’t jump. I would bust my head right open, and that wasn’t a “maybe” that was a “definitely”.
Mom obviously saw that look of terror blooming in my eyes. “Just let go. You are such a wimp.”
At that point I was crying and now a group of civilians had come to watch the drama unfold.
“Wait…what’s that noise?” a little old lady with a severe hunchback asked. We all strained our ears to listen, and caught a creaking.
“It’s the shelf!” offered a lady holding a kid in each hand, two in her cart, and two in the babies sitting in the little seat in the front seat of the cart, sharing a seat belt.
Sure enough, we could all see that the shelf was beginning to bend, and it started creaking louder.
“She’s gonna fall!” cried the lady again. Murmurs, shrieks, and surprised looks followed.
The small group had quickly turned into the entire Target store, including the store employees and several people with popcorn, sodas, and Starbucks coffee.
“Excuse me, excuse me, Channel 11 news crew coming through,” a voice commanded from the far side of the crowd.
Mom immediately began blurting out some very, well, “colorful” words at this point. I was bawling, and finally a news reporter and cameraman arrived at the scene. “And we’re filming in three, two, one!” the reporter shouted.
Can you see the scene unfolding? The news reporter stood by the camera, whispering commands at him to change the angle, and pull the camera up, and get a close up on my face.
The shelf was now visibly hanging and it was clear it was about to break. “Jump, please, honey, jump,” Mom pleaded. I noticed how she changed her tone to commanding to soft and sweet. It’s funny how the possibility of being on TV can change your personality.
The shelf cracked, and for a split second, everyone held their breath as they watched the shelf tumble to the ground, with me howling.
I landed on the cold linoleum Target floor (which smelt-bad) to the gasps of the audience, which turned quickly into laughter. There was me, scared, with a shelf by my side and completely buried in pads, tampons, and some other things I think I probably shouldn’t mention.
Mom was double over in laughter, as people whipped out their Nokias and snapped photos of me.
“C’mon, honey,” Mom said, still laughing. “I think we can go home now.” I fell on the floor, and blacked out.

The next thing I remembered was being at home, when Mom shook my shoulder. “Watch this,” she said, and turned on the TV. Channel 11 News came up, with two news announcers sitting at a desk.
“Hello, this is Michelle Turner,” the woman said,
“And this is Anthony Kiles, and we’d like to show you this interesting clip of what happened at our local Target store…”
And there it was. The clip that pretty much defined the beginning of the ending of my life.

BCHJ For all of you with the creative side that have loads of talent, and I've been aroudn all these forms. A lot of you have great potental and great talent and a good eye. For the poets you can make word do something speical for you and that is something to charish. As a heads up for all you any one who might want ot puchlished or prited someday might find it hard if you have posted your work in website that copy right it or on open form. The poets need to answear (yeah i misspelled that)that on open form like these someone could copy and pasy your work and try to make it their own. I'm not trying to discourage anyone I only want to inform and adive all you out there, cause I know what all my art and poetry means to me and i know how I would feel if somene stole on of my poems. Well that it just to let you know.

and no, im not tryin to make a pity-party for myself. it's all facts! unfortunate facts....

I write stories. I've started a couple of novels but couldn't really fashion an ending out of them. =]
I write short stories, I draw, I sculpt.
I hate painting, but pretty much anything else artistic, I can do.
Except pottery, tried it. failed miserably.
I used to play flute, but i absolutely hated it...
and am going to start guitar lessons sometime this month.
I wrote a poem last year that I absolutely adore, and It makes some people cry. a lot of people actually.
but that's the only poem I've ever written besides ones I was forced to do in class.
I sing. but only when nobody's around. =]
I act. It's pretty great.

For what it's worth:

I'm a classically trained pianist, turned jazz pianist. I used to have steady gigs playing in various clubs, but...meh...jazz clubs never seem to last long. One club I used to play in has been a Chinese restaurant, a dry cleaner, a deli, a coffee shop, a thrift store, another coffee shop, a Korean restaurant, and a watch repair shop since the club itself closed. Hah.

I do quite a bit of photography...that's probably my main "artsy" thing. Heh. I also sing and write my own music/lyrics...along with poems and the like. I used to sing at a local coffee shop and I've been in quite a few bands. I don't really do that anymore though. It's kind of funny...I had no problem performing in front of people for the longest time (largest audience was about 800 people!), now I've developed horrible stage fright! Haha. I also used to draw and do ballet and ice skate. I can't do any of those anymore. It's kind of a shame, because I was really good at them. Oh well. I probably could draw again if I took time to do it. No ballet or ice skating anymore since my knee injury...  :'(

I do a little drawing (but I never have the patience to finish anything...), I can play some piano (at least I know where the keys are), I do some photography, and lately I've developed a growing talent for 3D graphics/animation. I'm definitely not an expert yet, but after only a year, I've come a long way :)
I also love to sing, and I can do a reasonably good performance acapella, if I'm in the mood...

My favourite hobby is writing. I've got a ton of unfinished stories and story ideas waiting for inspiration - while I always start new ones. I've actually managed to finish a few of them, and I've posted some as sims stories.
I've got a talent for getting weird, crazy - and sometimes good - ideas. Definitely something I can use now that I'm studying 3D... :)

Oh god! You are so talented guys!

I've been a novelist even since I was six years old. I learned to read at the age of three and ever since I've been so much into the writing stuff. When I was 7 I finished my first novel but of course, it sucked. Now I've improved a lot and I plan to publish some books. I'm writing 3 right now:

- Daughter of Night;
- The Demonologist Chronicles;
- So long so gone.

I won two contests with my stories and I hope I can sucess. In a few years I'll be moving to France, as soon as I learn to speak French lol. Wish me luck!  ;)

Can't believe I never found this thread before... I could've sworn I posted something in a similar thread, but I must be loosing it.  :P

I used to make a lot of kiddie crafts stuff when I was younger... or just make stuffed "people" out of socks and rags.  (Didn't matter if they were old or new, I used them).  That has stemmed off to me making small fuzzball people with store-bought craft materials to this day, though I don't make them as much as I used to, and all but one of what I had are now currently missing.

I also draw a bit (http://light-angel12.deviantart.com).  Haven't been into much art lately, but back in high school I used to take classes, and definitely see that I've fallen by the wayside since then... I still have a lot of unfinished sketches that I have yet to scan, and what's on my Deviant Art account is nearly 1/4 of what works I've done between high school and now, ranging from sprites and anime sketches to clay works and paintings.  I'm just lazy in getting them uploaded and pictures taken of now that I have a digital camera on me.

What's taking up the drawing time is my major, which happens to be music (concentration on Alto Saxophone... mostly classical, since we no longer have an active jazz band, but I try to work on a little improv and studies now and then).  I'm in my school's saxophone quartet, and used to march in the band before both of my knees got arthritis in them.  I also play on special occasions at church, but hopefully when I get a little more confident with my improvisation, it'll be more on a regular basis.

Haven't decided what I'm going to do with music when I get out of college yet... I like playing, but everyone keeps stressing "you should teach" and all that jazz.  (I may work in the schools and help tutor kids now, but there is absolutely no way you will find me trying to take on the responsibility of teaching.  Too much trouble if it's something you really don't want to do in the first place.)  I'd rather just play... maybe do lessons on the side, but not as my main career option.
