Not very recent, but when I first got my laptop almost a year ago and installed Sims 2 on it, I discovered their eyes were supposed to move...

Lol Tenshii, I just recently found that out when I took a pic of my sim Sabina! I was always wondering how other people got their sims to move their eyes!

  Isn't it just mesmerizing when you see it the first couple of times?  I couldn't stop bringing up my pie menus just to see them look around!

One more thing I just discovered:  toddlers actually do have a standing idle loop other than when learning how to walk.  I accidentally stumbled on this when I canceled an animation and used the InSIMenator's teleport function... my toddler remained standing and looking around with nothing in her que.  I wonder why EA didn't allow toddlers to keep standing up after learning how to walk.  That has always annoyed me!  :angry7:

Well that's just because EA is stoopid. There's a lot they could have done to make the game cuter or more fun.

I discovered that now that I have seasons, sims get hot wayyyy too easily.  Damien (one of my all time favorite sims), got fat so I had him exercise.  Within 20 minutes game time, he was already overheated.  What's up with that?  Good thing I put in a bathroom right beside the treadmill.  He's constantly stopping to get a drink of water and have a shower.

I don't know if this was a glitch or a discovery...it was the first and only time I saw it though...
The daddy my one household came home from work one day, got out of his car and a basket of groceries appeared in his hands...which he then stocked the empty fridge with!  I didn't even do ANYTHING! So he probably went shopping before he came home...:) It was so cute!

I discovered while played Marco Polo that sims can either plunge or do a cannonball into the pool without a pool ladder, diving board, or slide! I was shocked when I saw that.

hmmm something i found out recently about sims....there not as stupid as i though i was playing the aslyum chalange and the only sim who seemed to have a problem when i wasn't paying attention to them was my contorable sim XDDDDD

Title: Discoveries
Post by: babyblue1387 on July 24, 2007, 12:38:11 pm
Lol! CobainFan, from what I understand, pets can only die from old age. I saw a demo about it from a gaming site who was reviewing seasons. So if your family dies in a housefire (intentional or not) the pets don't die. And I discovered that it's incredibly hard to kill toddlers. There was an "accidental" house fire and I was trying to summon a sim that I didn't like anymore, and I accidently summoned one of Brani Broke's toddlers (the mouse went haywire because the battery was almost dead). He was stuck in the fire and I couldn't remember his name and people kept trying to run to save him, but they kept catching fire, and the toddler was screaming, and the fire dept didn't come :(

Post by: ryukofaeris_of_ on July 24, 2007, 09:31:16 pm
o.O You mean it's actually -possible- to kill toddlers and babies? I once gave the Broke family two sets of quad babies and a toddler, then removed all the exits and the phone and set the place on fire. Most of the babies and the toddler sat in a fire for more than half a day game time and did little more than cry.

My own discovery was a while back, though I thought it hilarious at the time. I don't know what the thresholds are for bathroom privacy with sims, but apparently two of them were either close enough or outgoing enough to not mind being in the bathroom at the same time. One was taking a shower when the other came in to take a dump. All was well and fine until the one using the toilet got up and flushed. The sim in the shower let out a cry of indignation then jumped out and scolded the other, who ignored him and left. The remaining sim attempted to resume his shower, but couldn't because it had broken. XD

I know there's a lot that could have been done to make TS2 more realistic, but stuff like that makes me appreciate the effort that went into the little things for this game.

Post by: babyblue1387 on July 24, 2007, 10:45:34 pm
Ryukofaeris, I haven't checked back at Brandi Broke's place, but I'm pretty sure the toddler died. When the flames cleared, he wasn't there anymore. I don't remember if there was a tombstone, though. I remember in TS1, the sims used to sing in the shower. It always made me laugh to hear that! My thinking behind the shower-toilet flush situation is that the shower water gets cold and it makes the showering sim angry. Happens a lot to my sims.

Title: Discoveries
Post by: ryukofaeris_of_ on July 25, 2007, 12:31:05 pm
Bah, I guess I'll have to try harder then.
The shower-toilet flush thing has only ever happened once in my game.
I wish that they'd sing in the shower in TS2! Although I might get sick of it after awhile.
I do have to say that, though I'd seen people talk about it all the time, the male children's peeing song caught me by surprise when I first heard it. Then I went back to the same bathroom the kid was using and saw this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v496/ryukofaeris_of_the_dracs/snapshot_719781e3_72f5c5a2.jpg?t=1185383334). XD
Musical toilets, anyone?

Well...that's...different. I have to admit, tough, that xylophone when the little boys pee in the toilet was really getting on my nerves. I forget where the mod was to stop it, though:angryfir:

The mod for no more xylophone peeing sounds is brought to you by MATY. The link is here (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/samples/ffs/index.php?dir=seasons%2Fhacks%2F).

It's 2/3 down the page, called 'noxylophonepee.zip'. :)

Just a few random discoveries I made that made me laugh:

1.) Sims sometimes fart if you overfeed them. Seems to happen more often with sloppy, mean sims.

2.) Mean little children can shock others with prank called 'Static Shock'. Just direct them to a carpet, and click on them. It's either under 'Prank' or 'Irritate'. I forget now. I even found an amusing game bug that occassionally causes Sims to die when overshocked.

3.) In the Pets EP, dogs will eat out of a dirty litterbox.

I noticed that they do certain actions when you make them do certain interactions. Like I made one sim kiss another and he looked towards me jumped up once and gave me a thumbs up and smiled! I had to pause the game and zoom in closer to make sure it was actually happening.

Adding on to what you said Diva, shy sims hate showing romantic affection, no matter how much they love another sim. My sim Elyse is really shy and she whines and walks really slowly when she has to show affection for her husband. Sloppy sims act like this too when they have to clean up.

I like that the slob sims from nightlife, will come to your garbage can and eat the garbage.  I love the xylophone sound that comes from the toliet when little boys pee.  I almost puked when the toddler, plays in the doggie pee. Yuck! And  eating from the pet bowl. Double yuck!  The most recent find is when you move out a family in seasons, and a new family moves in the old house, even after you furnish it, whatever leftovers that the first family had in the fridge, is there for the second family, even with a new fridge.  I thought that was cool. Don't have to cook on the first day. LOL!

I just moved someone out of a starter home in my game and the next family had their leftovers.  I was surprised because I had to refurnish the lot and with the new fridge, there were leftovers. I thought how cool.

I made a rather cool discovery yesterday after my sim got abducted. This is the first time this has happened, so I didn't know what happened during abductions. My poor sim's motives were all over the place! There were constantly going up and down and switching and everything! I just felt so sorry he had to go through this all because I wanted him to get abducted and have an alien baby:(

Odd...My leftovers are always cleared when a family moves...the new house and when the old house gets occupied again.  I have to place everything in the inventory to save it.  The juicer keeps the produce though.

Back on topic this isn't recent but when I first played the sims on my brother's laptop I was suprised to see the movies that came with the game like the one when a sim gives birth.

I didn't know about the spill-while-cooking thing. It's kinda cool the touches of realism they put in the game. I read somewhere that pregnant women can't clean the litter box in pets and I know they're not supposed to IRL.

I have a whole text document of little things sims players usually don't know about actually. I <3 little unknown secrets in the game.

I don't know if it's a glitch (I have seasons without the patch) But if I have flies, when I go to buy mode, go back, push play for a second or two, then do it again, after a while I have a fly-infestation...

I know I shouldn't laugh at the little girl's situation, but that screenshot is hilarious!  I can't stop laughing! Is the mom on the floor sleep? With that many flies?  Poor baby!

I wondered about the flies situation, like dirty dishes or garbage or both were on the floor when you clicked into the buymode and came out.  So everytime you clicked back to live mode, the flies multiplied? WOW!!

I'm probably the last person to learn this, but using moveObjects!

The first six are samples of my pre-moveObjects snapshots and the last five are post-moveObjects. I'm not sure y'all can tell the difference, but for me it's hours worth. Needless to say, I'm still experimenting and learning to fully utilize it. The last ones are suppose to be like preview or commercial pics like the ones from the neighborhood stories... you know, like: Are there really mysterious circumstances regarding Christie's accident that Bob Homeless is hiding? And how is the mafia involved? (second to last picture)

Anyway, moveObjects is definitely a new discovery to me!

I've been playing for about a month (base game) and I made a major discovery-how to order groceries! OMG, I didn't notice the ordering thingie had a moveable bar! Ok, blame my age! I nearly let my poor simmies starve to death!
Hey, it's the little things that keep one learning.
I just didn't notice the bar that closely.

Don't worry about learning things in the game too late. I just learned how to use bodyshop and I have been playing the game since 2004.
I just found out that in genetics, the 3rd or 4th generations can inherit genetic markers from the 1st generation. For example, sim A has blue eyes, gives birth to sim B who inherits the father's eyes which are brown, so does every sim child in the 2nd generation. Sim A grandchildren inherits the blue eyes. I was amazed when I saw that last night.  I have reinstalled this game 4 times and it was hard to see some of my sims pass the 3rd generation. LOL!

That is until now. have a look at the pics in this post and you'll see what I mean http://www.insimenator.org/showpost.php?p=927717&postcount=279

I did discover something today. I had a sim make Crepe sultarnes (sp?) and you know how when they are cooked a sim will set fire to them?. Well that backfired as when my sim was lighting it she knocked the plate to the floor and managed to set herself on fire!. She is pretty sloppy and she is pregnant if that will help explain why that happened.

I do have a pic but it isn't on the computer I'm using so I'll put it up tomorrow.

Well the new things i've discovered like some u all have mentioned....i guess i didn't see them b 4 was cuz my computer i had wasn't that good to let me see them and i got a good video card now too...i've had the game since it first came out and couldn't play it for months cuz my computer couldn't handle it and when i got another computer and could play i was thrilled...but now i just got my current computer in June and it is like a new game to me with things i'm seeing for the 1st. time...so seeing the movie thing someone mentioned was a first... and i never knew that some of the outfits had jewelry with them...i thought it was just a distortion of the outfit...which turns out was really not a good video card...and the other day i decided to play pleasantville and i thought it was so cool to see the rainbow...i never saw the birds flying around in neighborhood view...i never knew the hair actually moves...it's amazing how much there is with a better video card...
something i found cute with BV...and of course i am constantly maxing motives on my lot...but my dog spends all his time on the beach lot i have watching the waves...Do remember with sims 1 and unleashed...the cat would jump up at the bird cage and scare the bird...i was surprised to see in sims 2 that they didn't do that anymore...i find it funny that my sims look up at me sometimes and like someone mentioned about the sim giving the thumbs up...also i have had them do a pull their arms down gesture and said yeah when they liked that i told them to kiss someone....well i blabbed enough for now...

Yeah, that Tim LeTourneau was because he was missed out on the credits of The Sims 2 Pets, so to make it up to him, the sims shout Timla Turno while playing Marco Polo. :)

well i am finding new things again....i never knew u could just click on the mailbox after u get the mail and a menu comes up saying pay all the bills...i use to get so aggravated that when it snowed i couldn't find the mail....cuz sometimes they would get the mail themselves and just leave it on the ground somewhere and i didn't even know they did it until i got the warning of bills not paid and repo man came....on old computer i couldn't use the x-ray snow thing to find mail and homework use to go to buy mode and find the stuff and then go back to get to them....like someone mentioned it is kind of neat finding these things out or seeing them for the 1st. time when u have better video card....

Another discovery I made was that (I should have known you could do this) you can follow your sim around the house, while they're doing whatever by right-clicking on the image..I'd done that in the Sims 1, and didn't remember to do it until just recently. It makes for more interesting experience when you're "in the shadows" of the sim you're watching-and no more getting one lost, either!

I think meditating comes with the base game. It's a way to further boost their body skill, but you need a certain amount to do it (3 or more I think). I found out about the right click on image thing a while ago - would be useful for movies maybe. It does come in handy if you want to follow a sim, although I don't recommend it in larger households ;)

I recently discovered how to place Sims and objects on a diagonal!

You need University for this cheat to work.  In the cheat window, type
"boolProp allow45DegreeAngleOfRotation true" w/o quotes.  Use the < and > to
rotate objects.  To turn off, type false instead of true.

Also how to pose sims and objects on things like beds and counters, effortlessly!

This will change how you take pictures. (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Tutorials:Taking_Totally_Bitchin_Pics/Posing_on_Surfaces)

Woo Hoo! *happy dance* :D

But yeah, don't worry about not knowing things.  Everything is learned over time.  I remember when I use to be afraid to hit "Tab" for the camera mode because I didn't know how to control that camera.  I'm learning now!  ;)

Yep, wouldn't be without those OMSPs, or the invisible magisplay recolour :D Also, that 45 degree cheat sits in my userstartup.cheat file, so when I want  to rotate something, I can do so without having to remember (or keep forgetting) to enter the cheat in the window. It must be noted though; to use the tray you need OFB, but there's a tutorial somewhere here (I think) for those who want to use the OMSP's without it.

Last night I was playing a couple in their own rental home at university, and was running it medium speed & just let them do their own thing. I just wanted them to finish university without using hacks for a change just to see what happens while on free-will. I do this once in a while to see what they'll do.

Well, I go to take a shower, and when I come back, there on the kitchen table is a pizza box, with steaming hot pizza!! I had no idea they would order take-out on their own, just sad I missed it when they ordered it.
