Title: Meshing : Mishaps ,Slip-Ups & New Projects
Post by: MixdCrysy on July 23, 2007, 06:12:48 pm
I am a beggining (trying to be) mesher. I wanted to make a thread so I can share my slip-ups and hopefully you may want to share yours too.

So, I followed tiggerypum & HystericalParoxysm's tutorial for beggining meshing (which is very exellent by the way, thank you tiggerypum & HystericalParoxysm
< http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=142305 >) and got soooooo exited. In this TUT, We were supposed to be taking that weird hangy thing from the maxis dress mesh.

So I went into bodyshop and tried to look at the finished product. It didnt show up right so I figure I did something wrong somewhere so I deleted the recolorand the mesh, intent to restart to see what I did wrong and to try, try again.

I started looking for the same dress becuase I was sooo intent on removing that weird hangy thingand this is what I found:

LOL. I somehow edited the Maxis mesh.... LOL. :D:punch:

So ive been trying different TUTs to see if I can get it right. This one is by tigerpum at MTS2. It is very detailed and informative. Not hard to follow at all (thanks, tigerpum, for the tuts). Leave it to me to screw it up lol. This is my latest fiasco:

As you see, I think I got it wrong. I swear someone should just take the PC away from me lol...:smt120 :toothy10:

Here is my current meshing drama; I am combining mesh parts (warlokks rio with marvines heels) checked and double checked bone assignmensts and still have this:

Cant figure it out. Im using the etended manual edit and cant get it right in game.

At least you're getting somewhere with body meshing.  I'm still at a stand-still with getting started... :?

I find the tuts here and at mts2 very informative. I started at the begining and did like 25 maxis meshes first before I tried this. In the begining it was like"What the %^&#" but then as I kept doing it it got a little better. I had to start and restart sooooo many times... but I finally got it (simple mesh changes using mesh tool and unimesh (milkshape). Afterr doing it like 50 times, you remeber the steps. I always look at the TUT though, cuase who can remember all those steps by heart! But dont give up!! It gets better, even now when I am having serious issues with the mesh pictured, I am optimistic that I will figure out what I did wrong.

Title: Now, I am working on a disabled sim.
Post by: MixdCrysy on August 30, 2007, 07:52:08 pm
One of our insim members, bloodrayne2sims, requested a few charactors from the bloodrayne. I picked the dopelgangers twins becuase I wanted to see if it would be possible in-game.

So I first am trying with the maxis shape and with the left arm. I flattened it out so it looks like the picture. If I like the maxis shape, I will do it for the BB too. I got the idea that it might be possible from BlooM's thread here : http://www.insimenator.org/showthread.php?t=31235&highlight=handicap: .

And I like how it looks in-game too. I wish I could upload the videos. Too big. I cant find anywhere I can upload anything over 100 mb. It looks really cool.

Now I finished the top only mesh. I am working on the full body regular and the full body athletic. I decided that it would be better to have a few different meshes instead of one.

And that picture with the other guy... uh... "primping" so to speak... () that's just terrifying to look at.  But to tell the truth, I've seen much worse mesh exploding, and lived to tell about it.  I'm still itching and twitching because of my bad game glitches from yesterday, so what happened to him there is nothin'!

Title: I was planning to release Disabled sim meshes...
Post by: MixdCrysy on November 07, 2007, 08:26:34 am
I was planning to upload the maxis meshes I already made. I also was in the process of making a nude left disabled mesh. Not sure if any one even wants disabled sims though, but these are a few pics of what I have done.

My nude still will need a lot of work- definatly not finished, but I will need to asign a skin to it (so it will show up in the shower). This I can do in simpe, but to make a skin ....

I use milkshape & simpe, & corel pro XI. I have poser 7, but, I have no idea what to do with it. I can open the program and close it... and thats about it.

Simpe & Milkshape are free but you need to register Milkshape to save your work ($25)... you dont even wanna ask about how much I paid for poser. $25 dollors is a small price to pay for what Milkshape can do, just make sure you get the plugins from Wes How to import & export & Deamon tools for the extended manual edit.

Here is a thread that lists the programs & plugins http://www.insimenator.org/showthread.php?t=19412 I started with this one  http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=142305  .

Good luck Jacci, it really becomes entertaining to do once you get familer with the steps. I used to stay up all night playing sims, now I stay up making sims. :D

Very nice! :) Yeah, Poser's an absolute bitch. It's got awesome potential but it's so user-unfriendly - I just can't get on with it :( I use Milkshape too - in fact I prefer it to 3DS Max, even though it's Max they're teaching us at Uni  I added a pregnancy morph to a buff teen outfit once, that's my big meshing achievement so far :D

Thanks Sadie & SolidGold. Trying to use poser makes my head feel like :violent1: :chainsaw:

Im stuck with my own series, so I am taking a break doing this one (above) and another request.

SolidGold, recoloring is difficult and takes alot of time, the krieger twins took me over 2 weeks and (*dont tell, keep it a secret*) I majorly suck at recolors. I would much rather mesh than recolor. For the meshes I have released recently I used a maxis recolor (the bathing suit one). The only thing I did was the boots, and it took me a while to be satisfied with those. Meshing is really fun, though. I now its kind of weird but... I really like when my meshes explode! Its so funny to watch them in game. :happy8:

Worse has happend to me (as you see here;) lol the body builder debacle was awesome) The great thing about doing it by the TUT's is you always back up after each step, so you dont have to start fresh each time over and over. I am looking forward to your first upload!

I'm thinking about trying my hand at meshing once I get the Sims2 basegame again.

Several questions:
-If I have inadvertantly created an "exploding" mesh, how much damage would be caused to the game?
-If the damaged caused by an "exploding" mesh did damage the game to the point of having to reinstall, would it affect any other users on the computer?
-What are the sympthoms of damage caused my "exploding" meshes?
-How can I tell if the damage is serious?

An exploding mesh will only affect the mesh/sim using it. I have never heard of anyone needing to reinstalling after an explosion, so no worries. I have had tons, (and I mean it) and so have other creators. The 'symtoms' are exactly what I post here (see post 11). The body is distorted and becuase the body is distorted, the animations are too. The only "seriousness" about a mesh explosion is how hard you can laugh at what you got. :) Dont be intimidated, its fun to do. Good luck!

And just so you feel better I will post another. This is what happend after I tried to use poser and import with meshtool.

Apparently, exploding meshes can happen if you delete something you shouldn't do (i.e, the vertices, that kind of thing).

I got one too, something I was working on with BlooM's feet - note to all you meshers out there, remember when importing meshes to rename the groups properly:

I have been working on an alpha mesh. I have the parts and comments in milkshape down, but I have been trying to give the recolor the transparency it need so if you want to black out the alpha it will dissapear on the body.

I am and still are intimidated by meshing tools, even photoshop. I hope by early next year that I will have actually sat down and try to learn somthing. Six years of sims and not once have I made anything usefull. Simming people is nice, but personally I feel meshing is the next step I need to take, especially before the apocalypse of sims 3 rolls around. Here's a problem I ran across when making my Lean Bodybuilder.  Don't know what happened here, but luckily I was able to fix it.  Even his legs got screwed up.

DecoraChroi & DiamonteGirl: Dont be intimidated, its really fun. I am not so great with photoshop either, so dont worry ;) we are all good at something. And, if you have not registered milkshape yet,  I would do it ASAP, becuase after 1/5/08, i think, the price is going up.

Sadie79: I almost died when I saw that last one, lol

SynapticSim: He was weak in the knees  I have had some more bizzare slip-ups latley, but I guess its what keeps you on your toes. BTW, You are doing great job with the lean bb ;)

I am having dificulty with the tranparent parts on my alpha mesh... They are showing up as non-transparent or the whole freaking body transparent. I made sure have the recolor set right too. I changed the stdMatAlphaBlendMode to blend , the stdMatAlphaTestEnabled to 0, and the cMaterialdefination to SimStandardMaterial (from Simskin). My comments for the alpha parts are changed to opacity 3. I cant figure out what is going on.... :( I think I have been cursed by the Simming/Bodyshop/EAxis Gods... *curses Simming/Bodyshop/EAxis Gods*

Thanks to BlooM, I have been able to fix my transparency issues. Sadly, I have been plagued other issues. My pc is in dire need of some new parts. I have fixed some thing for the moment, but I can run the game anymore. I will be able to use my cousins pc (I hope) to test my meshes until I get it fixed. I also have problems exporting and importing my meshes. I am reinstalling milkshape, and need to redownload the plugins from wes_how to see if that solves the problems. I hope it will, I get very sad when I cant play ...
