Title: White squares on while playing the sims
Post by: Aaroneous on August 08, 2007, 10:15:35 pm
Last week I upgraded my video card from a geforce fx 5500 to a geforce 7600 gs and since then these squares appear. I have updated to the latest for directx, and video driver and still doesnt help. If you need my system spec I can give them too.

Edit: I have all the Eps and none of the SPs

You need to use the new beta driver Nvidia release.

More info about it can be found here:  New beta Nvidia drivers (http://www.insimenator.org/showthread.php?t=52772)

Did you remove all of the old drivers?

Yeah I did and to make sure I did, I used ccleaner to clean up anything left behind by the old drivers.

Ok...this is what I can think to try off the top of my head. Click on start>run and type dxdiag. Click on the Display tab and make sure Direct draw acceleration, direct 3d acceleration and agp texture acceleration are all enabled. Ideally, you should also see "No problems found" in the box on the bottom". Also, it could be something as simple as a loose cable. Hopefully, it's not a sign of faulty RAM, but that's a possibility too.

His card should work fine. I have a friend who ran her game off the 7600 just fine. I used to run my game on the ATI 9650, which also isn't on the list, and it worked fine.

dxdiag says everything is fine, It could be possible that it is bad ram, But the squares only show on the sims 2. The other games I play are fine and they are more demanding then the sims, like neverwinter nights 2, Gta: San Andreas. I have check the wires 3 times and there tight as they can get.

If you click on start, then right click on My computer and select "properties", it should show you. For example, mine is Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2

I don't think the edition really matters in this case.  XP vs Vista may have.

Just to let everyone know. I finally got it fixed after a month, I sent it to XFX they said it was faulty, So they repaired it. Once I got it back this week it was still acting up. So someone I know suggested updating the driver on the chip set on mother board, Witch Acually solved the problem.
