Title: The Sims 2 Teen Style Stuff Pack rant
Post by: BeosBoxBoy on September 01, 2007, 06:18:17 am
Ok, after taking a good long look at the screen shots on the official site, I have to say that EA is really dragging rivers for bodies on this one.

Not a thing in it did I see that wasn't already made (and usually better) by many of the free artists in the Sims Community.  I strongly advise all of your purchasing addicts to stay clear of this one and turn your support to the many free artists in the community that were obviously ripped off to fill the CD for The Sims 2 Teen Style Stuff Pack.

What?! EA is ripping off of free artists for the Teen Style Stuff Pack?! :-o

.....:angry1: Yep, they've finally stooped to a lower level. :-x

Btw, Yakov, why don't you give us some examples of comparisons of the EA stuff/CC to better prove what EA is "stealing?"

I don't necessarily (sp?) think that EA is ripping off the stuff from free artists (but I could be wrong), but they don't realize that the free artists make stuff better than them and then EA tries to sell us crappy stuff that we already have better versions of from free artists. Oh well, I guess the pack may be good for those people who don't download custom content.

heh, I like maxis/ea stuff (well, most of it) and I do plan to buy the teen stuff pack.

lets just say that my opinion on most custom content is different then yours

Since I started modding, I've removed all the CC from my game.  Still have mods I'd prefer not to play without, but everything else gone to improve load time.  With all the EPs and SPs except Pets and Holidays, I've had no problem finding descent clothing for my sims to wear.  I realized that 80%-90% of the CC clothing I had I never used anyway.

Does Teen Stuff tickle my fancy?  At the moment no.  Maybe after I get a better idea of what is in it that may change.  And come on EA!  Your idea of preppy really smacks of bubblegum!

Well, of course we have better cc. I'm not sure if I'll get it or not yet... from the screens I've seen, there's only one or two objects that struck my fancy. But this more of the same from maxis. A talented cc creator makes something and something similar miraculously shows up in the next pack.

I've seen this happen too.  I have things that I downloaded somewhere that are very similar, and sometimes better quality, than the Maxis version that came out in a later SP or EP.  I think they visit many of the community sites and look at the top downloads for ideas.

Some people don't download so I guess it's good for them. :) However I steer clear of EVERY stuff pack since I realize I can find it in the community.

I personally appreciate the joys of officially supported content, because aside the fact that the meshes, textures, compatibilities (flashing blue stuff, menus, glitches, etc) are all top notch - they are also drama-free ("I take my toys and leave!!11").

And to top it off, I do like what the upcoming stuff pack has to offer. :) The goth and socialite themes are unlike anything I've seen made by the talented people of the community.

I had decided to boycott the whole SP thing after FFS.  I thought that, while cute, it was not worth the money I had paid for it.  When GL came out, I said, '"I won't cave.  I will be strong."  Then, the community started making really cute clothes and recolors with the Maxis meshes, and then there was the hidden race-car themed set.  (Maxis turned around a released it online after Numerator did, but it was too late for me!)  So, they got my $20.  I resolved to be strong and not cave in again with celebration stuff came out, but guess what?  I held off buying that for a whole week of going to download sites and seeing, "Needs Celebration Stuff Pack" on the requirements.  H & M came out, and again I said, "This is mainly clothes!  My simmies have too many clothes as it is, and I hate Maxis Clothes anyway!"  I held off a whole 2 months or so, just got it two weeks ago because I kept seeing adorable clothes made with those Meshes.  So, yes, I hate the stuff packs.  If the CC wouldn't be so wonderful and make such awesome things off the stuff packs meshes, I'd have a few more $$$ in my wallet!  LMAO!  It's all your fault!  ;)

Glamour life was pretty much the only good one, but I also got Happy Holiday stuff.

Hey- they were gifts. :P

I got to say I have got to the point where I have to much CC and started getting rid of things, and using the basic EA stuff. But mods are always a must lol

Well I have to both agree & disagree with you there, BBB. I totally agree that they have erm..let's say "taken inspiration" from the community for this new pack. But the reason why we know this is because well, we know where to find it. I think they're doing it for the younger players, who a-may not be old enough to access some of the sites & b-their parents may not allow them to download things (parental control etc).

But, I'm a sucker and will buy it anyway.

Well my opinion on stuff packs is the few things i like in them really isn't worth what i pay for them....it would b nice if there was some way on the official site where u could just choose the things u would like and use without getting the things u r not that interested in....Oh! and not have to pay would b even nicer....i think they make enough money off us with the expansions....and i do buy the expansions cuz they give us new items but also game play where stuff packs don't so with that said i'm in no hurry to get this one either....

I'd still be interested to see comparison pictures for what was supposedly stolen from the community.

As would I, Succy.

I personally like how this pack looks and I would definitely buy it if I have the money for it.

I just hate how 80% of Maxis clothes makes the Sim women look like they shop at Hookers R Us.

 I remember thinking that same thing when I was creating a family, and couldn't find anything appropriate for them to wear.

I don't know about "Stuff Packs", and I have honestly been boycotting them from the start. They used to just add it to the next expansion pack or provide free on-line, but now I think they are a bit out of line. And don't they have a lot more Stuff Packs than expansions? It's just a easier way for them to make money. I mean I've been tempted to buy them too, but only because some Custom Content seems to require them. They've become drunk off their money, and want more and more. I'll probably still buy expansions because I already have Sims 2, but it really makes me leery of Sims 3 that is supposed to come out soon... I just wish (but doubt) that they'll read these forums, and get up off their jewel-encrusted thrones.

Also people keep saying "stealing"; they didn't really steal anything, they just made something that was already made by the community. Maybe, they saw it or maybe they thought it up on their own. It's like just because one person makes an Angelina Jolie sim doesn't mean someone else can't - and unless they actually use the other person's to make theirs, it's not stealing. Just like, even if two people write a paper on the same topic doesn't mean one of them copied the idea, or stole it. Beosbox Boy (at least I think - I don't want to put words in his mouth) is just saying that there's already custom content out there that's the same stuff as the outfits in the Stuff Pack, and not only are they of higher quality, they are also free. He doesn't say that they stole it. The side-by-side comparison would still be interesting though.

From the pics I've seen it seems no bad at all! Oh and let's not forget that not everyone has internet to download CC to install in their game and that those who are saying that the maxis clothes are ugly well everyone got different tastes, I myself find many Maxis clothes pretty enough for my sims.

Well they need to make profit you know if they don't want to get bankrupted

I don't think much about the 'Stuff Packs' anyway, by what i've heard about them they seem to be a dissapointment. Although i have to admit 'Teen Stuff' does sound pretty cool and i have always been wanting more stuff based on teenagers, however i will not be buying it.

Although I have recieved them as gifts, I personally dont buy the stuff packs. Why?, because almost all of the CC included has and continuiously, are modified after things the sim community has wished for, fufilled and were able to distributely freely. I know plenty of things that have been left in the game that were later extracted by creators, which we later find they were to be included in later ep's or stuff packs. If I were to take out all of my CC, half of the default content I barely use because it's either half assed or the colors given dont match anything.

There's no way in hell EA/Maxis or whoever in the hell is in charge of creative concepts think for themselves. Things we should have had from the BEGINNING are now turning up which is the big rip off.

I didn't say I thought they were ugly; I just implied that they don't have enough clothes that are a bit more conservative. Having the internet is practically a given now (whether it should or shouldn't). Even from like elementary schools expect that students have it.

They made plenty profit with Sims 1 and expansions. They make plenty of profit with Sims 2 and expansions. I highly doubt not making Stuffpacks will cause them bankruptcy. There's a difference between making a profit and wanting too much - even making a huge profit is different. I suppose if some sites make you pay money, then that's really not very different. However, a difference is that they are not doing this as just part of their free-time, this is part of their career unlike makers of custom content who often have other careers.

it's rather funny that part of the reason they make stuff packs is so the people who like maxis/ea stuff (or don't have internet access or maybe just don't like to download much) can have it and the people that don't, won't have to have it in their game and won't be bitching about how much the stuff sucks...yet people, never being satisfied, bitch anyway.

the price for them is higher then I would prefer but then I look at as helping (without choice) to pay for some of the copies that other people downloaded for free...

I for one am apey for the new Kitchen theme stuff pack that is coming out. Stuff packs, if you wait for a while, can be bought in large quantities for little money... and I LOVE the TSSP because of the surfer theme.

Also, while I'm sorry if this may offend people, I like most of the stuff EA makes a lot more then the CC hair and other objects that have a tendency to glitch the more Mods you get... while the EA stuff doesn't. Not to mention that, when you pay for the Stuffpacks, you get a number of items all organized and tested - which is much better then the paysites which charge millions for one item.

Still thats just me, its hardly to stop me from getting FreeTime or the Kitchen stuff pack... and its hardly going to stop me from getting MORE custom content ;) but thats my two cents.

Here recently I have been getting more and more angry at both the community an EAxis.  I like good stuff for my sims and will find a way to get it, CC or Official.  As for theft of ideas, Isaac Newton said, "If I see farther than others it is only because I stand on the shoulders of giants."

EA has stated Freetime will be coming with CC created by some community members created for the advent calendar, and several things from the contests they've held. Guess we'll see.

I'm with you Grig some Maxis stuff I like better than I find in the community and some I don't. I'm going to buy the Kitchen and Bath set also. At least I know the refrigerators will be updated. lol
