There's no reason to hate yourself for not liking an EP.  This EP, like the others, is something you can play at face value, or find little things in it that can fit into your style of play.

Maybe your sim needs some skill ups or friends for a job promotion.  Besides the cheating method (download some object and set all your skills to max, download some hack and never run out of friends), before BV you had to take a couple days to get the skills and friend while still going to work.  With BV, you buy a vacation home, book a 3 day vacation right after you get home from work and get your skills and friends.  Come home, and it's the same time as when you left on vacation.

Or maybe you want to have a romance or popularity aspiration beach bum that doesn't hold a job because it interferes with that lifetime aspiration.

Look under the surface.

I agree i find it kinda boring and am disappointed. I thought it would have more exciting stuff. I can build better buildings than what they have. If we could access the stuff they used and it was available in normal mode instead of holiday mode it would be better. Their destinations are really not very interesting. So that's 2 of us not as happy as we thought we'd be!

Three;)
Instead of behaving like idiots some times, they are behaving now like idiots 24 hours a day, starving and peeing on the floor because they have to dance and tai-chi and all the other wonderful stuff they learnde on vacation- and it's spreading like a plague through the whole neighbourhood. And it's a real cheap EP- there's no expansion in the game, you've seen all that before, - only because it happens in a new neighbourhood and costs much more simoleons, it's nothing new. I like the beaches, that's the only thing I find useful.
I'm really angry because- as usual- you can't play the other expansions anymore. No pets allowed, no buisiness allowed, I wonder that it's possible to date there, but who wants to do that with those ugly thing running around- cheap made as everything there.

What I also got are really interesting, exciting new bugs and errors. For only 29,99€! Great.

I forgot one thing- after two years, after running mad and hating the game, they've stopped the phone terrorism starting at 4 pm: People calling and telling you that they have no time to speak with you right now. That's great.

Don't feel badly for not liking it. That happens sometimes... it isn't a bad thing if you don't like it. ;) I find it a little boring too, but I like it well enough I suppose. Eh.

Ive enjoyed most of the EP's back Maxis or whoever makes the game needs to sit down and think about what everyone wants in a game. Plus heal all bugs or at least some or even most of em

Haven't bought the expansion as yet. I'm very undecided cos I absolutely detested Vacation. And reading these threads I'm going more on not buying it.
So truly is this just Vacation with updated graphics?

When I bought Bon Voyage, I found it as nothing new from the original Vacation exp pack for Sims 1 with maybe one or two new features - owning vacation homes and walking to other lots right away without having to wait for a taxi.

I was a little disappointed that they forgot to put some real stuff into BV like clam bakes, lauau (sp?) buffets, volcanoes (yes, that would be fun seeing it in the neighborhood) to name a few to give each vacation destination that unique cultural feeling..

With all these expansion packs they rolled out so far, I was hoping that the next one would bring what the game lacked sorely for kids - playground sets, treehouses, stuff for KIDS. Yeah, fun stuff for children instead of some dinky little toyboxes, remote controlled toys, dollhouses, stuffed toys and swing sets....

Wow, this thread has really put me off buying Bon Voyage - i didn't think that the original Vacation exp. was that bad, but this seems really disappointing.

I like BV. I love the option to "walk to", and I like that my rich sims can own more than one residential lot. the game has run bug free for me.

it's what you make of it... I love BV and consider it worth buying even if you never take any sims on vacation.

I'm not in love with it either! So don't feel bad. We all have EPs we like and don't like.

I think that the expansion is ok. The problem is that Maxis is not giving us complete new things, it´s just copying the sims 1. So it would be interesting to find out if they´re going to create something new (really new) for the sims 2.

It is a little disappointing yeah... but I didn't go into it expecting much anyway, so Im all kinds of mellow.  The beaches are cool, I like that... and the new buy/build mode stuff is also very usable, nothing in primary colours only like the EA monkeys usually give us.

Also: Accessories is "nice"....considering: not a huge range, and the new face piercing options only available to adults.... even though teenagers would have benefited 100% more from them.

...and of course the annoyances.  Tai-Chi, chanteys, greetings, "dances"... those have sent a few over enthusiastic sims to their early deaths before InSIm came along with the option to remove the "skill".

Sauna's and massage tables...a nice touch yeah.. but there's no real place for them in my game.  I dont see myself ever using them.  Maybe one day Ill create a "spa" business.  But I have no interest in that yet.

Im 50/50 on BV

Custom content is fine in the game but the vacation is like staying at a normal house with a sea

Well as it takes longer to go from lot to lot, I do find myself feeling bored with the game, so that when I take out my mobile and listen to music, make some coffee/tea get a drink, etc..  When you get back the lot has just loaded and ready to play.

I've been playing BV for about 3 weeks now and have had no problems with any of it other than slight freezes now and then. I'm very happy with it so far and the vacation homes are awesome because you don't have to pay all that money per day to stay in a hotel.

Hmmm, is 'BV' boring? - this is a toughie...

As long as you've already got the vast majority of the other EP's enabled, then I'd say it's an 'OK' addition to your Sim's World - there are some nice features in there.

However, playing it via Numenor's "AnyGameStarter" utility with only a couple of the EP's enabled - I did find it quite limited, and yes! - boring in places, especially without 'Seasons' enabled.

So, the bottom line is - you pays your money, you makes your choice!...

I agree it is kind of boring but i enjoy BV its a shame they didnt put more into it cultural wise etc... but i use all the cheats and have heaps of fun i think its what u put into it and how u make it that makes the game ive created my own towns and fun but it is dissapointing to but i do like it i love the sims2 all of my custom content works only prob i found installing BV is my hair, eye, skin tones and colors wont work now grrr but everything else does
as for pets i havent reinstalled that what a waste of time that was a really dissapointing EP i think the one in sims 1 was more interesting than this one it really annoys me the pets one and it slows the game down heaps

i am 50/50 on the subject...my computer was nice and happy with everything (all eps) and then i had to get BV it slowed my computer down so much it was almost impossible to play, even on the smallest of lots it lagged quite a bit but then i did the unthinkable and uninstalled it for about a month because i got so peved over it. then my bestest friend came over one day and we re-installed it (im a softie :)) and now it works fine...

and i am quite happy about it and there is something really big you can do, and that is find the secret lots ive done one and i am looking forward to doing the other two and learning all these new things....everyone is complaining that BV is not up to scatch and yea i can understand but you gotta have patients...look forward to getting those momentos and sharing the new 'skills' with your other sims.

thats all i gotta say lol

haha i do the exact same thing when lots are loading coz they take the pee on mine. Bon voyage just made the waiting longer...meaning my phone needed more music and my charger needed to be closer.

*just returned from debugging the BV expansion on a friend's system*

Well, I have to agree with missaaliyah here.  About the only addition of any merit is the swim-able sea -- it appears the mongs at EA learnt nothing from the defects and player dissatisfaction of the Vacation EP for the original game.  Both are probably equally buggy and insipid, but thankfully the hideous, piss-poor, annoying theme mascots are largely absent from Bon Voyage.

Also, I agree in part with DocFX here, the enjoyment of BV hinges largely on the presence of Nightlife & Seasons EPs, the rest of the EPs you can totally avoid with no appreciable loss; but this speaks more to the benefits of Nightlife and Seasons than to anything dealing with Bon Voyage.

Also, nuttyspiritual is right, unless you have some unaccountable obsession with digital pets, the Pets EP is a total waste of time and money, and does nothing to help Bon Voyage performance.

So the final analysis I have formed is "Thanks, but no" -- I can survive without adding swim-able seas.

I've got to say that after everything I have gone through to get this damn ep to work, I haven't found it as good as I'd hoped.  Sent one of my couples on a romantic weekend with the intention of getting them wed in a romantic setting, for example.  Didn't work out.  beach front, camp fire, nice accomodation and guess what?  No option to get wed.  Had a honeymoon with no wedding.  Still, after attempts to rectify issues with driver downloads, defragging disks, unloading and reloading I now have all my issues apparantly solved.  How?  Well, hubbie wanted a laptop for his new college courses and my two year old Evesham is a very well spec'd machine that more than meets his needs, so for three hundred pounds more than his budget I have got myself a lovely new one with a Ge8800 graphics card and 320 gig of memory.  Only thing I'm unsure about is that it runs on Vista, which is fine except that the SimsPack downloads install very slowly and have a tendency to hang up.  Thanks to everyone in this site who helped me and gave me advice.  With all this I'm actually starting to get a bit computer literate.  I love my new laptop.  Oops.  Geasy fingers.  Where's that duster?:happy8:

Hi Tomkat, you didn't think you would use the massage tables, but they are one of the things I like.  Ok, so I'm an aromatherapist.  Don't like the restrictions on who seems to be get a massage, though.  For example I massaged my son when he had colic and when he was in pain from an illness when he was young.  Also, after watching the extent of the massages and the technique - that's not much of a swedish massage - I think that they are way overpriced!

I actually quite like it, or at least the idea, however I am wishing that I'd never installed it.
One of my sims no longer works, which I still haven't got round to fixing and I miss SimPE.
I acutually have a question: If I uninstalled my game, is there anyway to save some of the characters (like copy their files) or would that not work?

Title: This game is kinda boring :(
Post by: Mihura on November 06, 2007, 01:30:10 pm
Yes sure you can save before a reinstallation. All characters are in the My Documents / EA Games / The Sims 2 / Neighborhoods. But if you want to keep the aspect of these caracters you would have to save too the Downloads folder. The better is to save all the My Doc / ... Sims 2 folder in fact... :)

I held off getting BV for months! As like has been said, each expansion lacks alot of things that you would think should be included!
esp with BV -where are the beach towels?
When I got BV I couldn't make hotels or vacation homes but persisting finally could, Also finally updated my ram from only 246 (128 left for sims 2) to now 1 GB ram and this has sped the game up heaps.
The best thing about BV is the ocean waves and surf sounds and making a home near the beach next best thing to living there:)

Yep that part is good except when they get out, they float on the next storey
(when using objects on the ground floor?)
Kinda strange popping up in the air then back down again, must be another bug?

This reminds me of a glitch I had once.  One of my sims was swimming in the pool then continued swimming all over the house, stopping only to walk upstairs or cook.  I had to get her to move out then back in to solve it.  Very weird.

The thing I like about Bon Voyage is the fact that you can now walk somewhere but I'm kinda disappointed about the activities you can do while on vacation.  But I do like the fact that you can now build a house on/near the beach

Wells, I spent countless hours on home design and solidifying relationships; sometimes I feel my sim needs to really get away, lol.  Sure it's like a big community lot but the scenery rather helps.

I hated it, half my CC wouldn't work. Uninstalled/reinstalled still couldn't get some CC to show up. Not mod's or hacks. So played it for awhile didn't do a thing for me, went back to Season's and got rid of their spyware Securom. I have katy's boats and rafts that take me out into ponds/lakes. Don't know if I'll ever reinstall this one. I'm happy with Season's. This thing has to be the worst for bugs. I never experienced most the bugs other's did with the other EP's or they were bugs I could live with, this one made me want to pull my hair out.

Title: Bon Voyage - No Thanks
Post by: CrossCountry on November 22, 2007, 11:34:50 pm
If I ever got Bon Voyage - which I haven't yet - it would only be for the Beach option. That would be really useful in movies, but I have so much CC on my computer that I would hate to lose any of the stuff in my game. And if the overall review is that it's not even worth the money, then I might as well bypass this one and wait for the next.

For the Vacation expansion, the only thing that I actually enjoyed was building the lots. That might be the only thing I would look forward to doing in Bon Voyage. Getting to build a beach resort or something might be kind of cool. But in Vacation, my sims would get to the hotel and then I would kinda think... "Okay, now what?"

Maybe the next expansion could fix all those issues we are bringing up - being able incorporate all the EPs at the same time. Like, being able to build a business on a Bon Voyage lot, or have pets be able to come along with our sims on their vacations.

As of right now, it doesn't sound like Bon Voyage is worth the money, or the hassle. :sad1:

i hated vonvoyage too until i uninstalled it. then i noticed most of the stuff i used came from it. so far i dont like pets or university. i do like open for business and i just put in seasons so i haven't tried it out yet. i just hate the hair styles they have. and the ones i have down loaded on the net wont work. something else i wish the bodyshop was like the one in the sims 1

I uually look at the packages in a whole - not one by one. there's things about each one I like (and yes, I have them all, except 2006 holiday - have 2005, and regret not waiting...wish they could make one this year, too - and I haven't installed teen stuff yet.)

as an example, I really like cars with nightlife, having pets ingame at all, the new toys with OFB, growing things/having snow from seasons, and many of the funny stuff from bon voyage (especially bigfoot, because it gave me a good idea for a story, and the ninjas - finally a use for those stupid costumes i never use from OFB, and makes me wonder if we'll see a purple gorilla in the next game).

I was also thinking "is this all?" after the first time I tried each game(mostly because I tried all the new stuff at once) , but because of the possibility to download custom content that often tend to use a little of each game, I'm happy to have all the games (and jumping on my chair for the new that comes in february).

I think BV is the most boring EP of the Sims2

Honestly, the only thing I like about it is~ -drumroll-

MOAR TURNONS. 8D
And now I can walk to community lots!?  HOT DAMN~!  -squeals and skips around-

The vacation aspect in itself I'm not too fond of though. Which is the whole reason I bought the game. xD;

Title: This game is kinda boring :(
Post by: Artistic Sims on December 28, 2007, 11:07:35 am
I'm enjoying playing BV. As Nita-Chan says, it's good that we can now walk to community lots instead of having to wait for a taxi or to drive there. What I find the most fun is collecting vacation mementos and memories, and learning new greetings from the locals. It is quite hard to do (collecting), and I usually end up running out of time! The only disappointing thing that I find with it is the tours. Yes, we know that they go on them, but we don't see them on the tours! I think it would've been fun if they'd added a video of the tour that can be handed out so that you can play it back on the TV. Only something short, but I think it would've been really funny to have watched.

Jeez all these comments about BV have made me regret ever buying the EP. Ive had the game already for a while but ive been debating if i should or shouldnt install. I knew there was something up with this EP. As if seasons and cc havent slowed up the loading period:roll:

I haven't bought Bon Voyage yet, and I don't want to!!
I only own The Sims 2, University, Nightlife, and Seasons...
And it's all good! The last Expansion Pack I'm ever going to get is Free Time but that's in February and it depends if I even like it or not!

Bon Voyage seems stupid to me...The holidays are awesome but I'd sctually want to do that in REAL LIFE!

The items seem cool and that's the ONLY reason I got University or Nightlife (sorta, I like YAs and Nightclubs) THE ITEMS!

Bon Voyage has too many bugs for me and I want ALL my Custom Contents!
I don't want sims hungry all the time or collapsing...Peeing on the floor for that matter all the time because they're too busy doing the slap dance with random, fuglies at the holiday resorts...Nu-Uh!

If you are looking for another EP, PLEAZZZ don't waste your money on Bon Voyage...It was just a filler until Free Time comes out! Get Seasons or H&M or wait until February for Free Time...Cause that's what I'MMA doing :king:

I like Bon Voyage ... I debated about getting it for quite sometime.  Once I finally decided I was going to get it.   I procrastinated for awhile as well.  Well ... I am glad I got it.  Finally, something more realistic going on in this game.  The parents in my game need breaks from time and time and WOW ... Now they can go on vacations, sit back and enjoy.

I can walk to community lots ... wooowhoo!  I can also buy some of the items on the vacation lots at home ... Massage table, mahjong, dart piece, log roller etc ... I cannot figure out where the zen garden baby is but I read that it can be bought too.  I have just about all of the custom content/hacks that I previously had in my game.

One thing about it that I don't like or thought would actually make sense to have with this game.  Would be for the vacation days to actually be taken away from the sims vacation time they get from their jobs.

Their needs tend to go down quickly also during vacation or it could be just me.  They seem a little preoccupied with whatever they are doing and won't handle their business until it is way too late.

Minor bugs to be though ... I remember when seasons had it's bugs, pets etc ... it all worked itself out so that is cool.

I have'nt bothered to get BV EP as yet, and it looks like I may be better off saving my cash. It's all a question of "what do I get extra in the game for my cash." Besides, I'm still missing the university EP.

So what's the Pros and cons of this EP? :blob6:

As for putting in features that we really want too see.
I get the feeling it's all decided by comitee rather than asking the people who actually play and love the game. It's not like they don't know where to find us.

i like it for the most part, but i agree with you guys on how it becomes boring. i mostly enjoy it for the honeymoon option..a little more realism to the game i suppose. i don't really think it's much like vacation with updated graphics, i mean there's more stuff to do rather than just go to a hotel, swim, eat, go home... but with only 3 tours and a few outdoor activities, it gets EXTREMELY boring. i have yet to send any sims on vacation for longer than 3 days, there's nothing to do after a while. i always get really excited for any new EP, and i'm usually disappointed once i see what all is there to do, but oh well..

Don't feel bad,I hate it too!(but not as much as Uni)it wasn't what I thought it would be.You can do almost anything you can do on vacations in your own home, that really brought it down for me. The only good thing about it is the enviroment. You can get some gorgeous photos with it because it provides for a nice backround =) that's about it.

kwazy wabbit, here's my take on BV.

pros: honeymoon option makes the game more realistic (IMO), taking pictures is a lot of fun and putting the pictures in your house makes it more fun, i like the beaches and getting a tan, the jewelry and such, the photo album and souvenir racks are cute as well, and the *secret* lots are kinda neat the first go-around. the sauna is alright, the way woohoo appears in it is really weird-looking.

cons: well, of course..the size of the game may devour a computer if it's not up to the games standards, the townies from the vacation islands are hideous. the limited amount of stuff to do on vacation is annoying, but if you're just looking for a romantic getaway from your simmies, i think it's perfect. i also HATE the way that tvs are set up in hotel rooms, if my sims are relaxing on the bed about to woohoo, one of them turns on the tv, thus interrupting their slumber right after. talk about ANNOYING. the interior design of most of the hotel-type places is CHEAP. housekeeping never seems to come, either.

i guess there was more cons, but i really do love the game, althought i complain. it's a love-hate relationship. hope that helped! :)

Just make your hotel as a community lot...or residential....and bring up the cheat box (Ctrl+Shift+C) and type in-   changeLotZoning hotel  -and hit enter.

You can use this cheat to also create dorms on campus or change a residential to a commercial for a home restaurant business.  All with the proper EPs of course.:-P

not the strongest EP I'll agree, not in the uni or seasons league, but the house building options become better with this one, and theres always three new sub-hoods (okay, sub-minihoods), new animations, and a break from the current climate. I like it overall.

To me, Uni is the weakest EP of all. Sooo freakin' boring and loooong! if it wasn't for the new items and interactions, I would've thrown it out a long time ago. After Uni we have Pets and OFB, and then there's BV, so it's not really low but not really high either on my list.
I do agree that it tends to get a bit boring sometimes, but there's still só much to do in the game that I don't really mind of one part bores me a bit sometimes.

hi

the best thing about it is the fact that your sims can live on the beach but i wish you could have smaller lots.

going on holiday is a bit boring

I must admit it was a bit of a disappointment, but I really had to get into it. I didn't like how it took a million years to load and I found it just a bit... well... flat. But then I discovered all those little things in it like those vacation memory things and the secret lots and stuff. I do wish it had better lots though and more things to do.

I wouldn't say its completely boring I do like a lot of the new features and items but its not my favorite either. I never had a real problem with my game running slow so that was never an issue in me not liking it I personally just think there was a lot more they could of put in to it.
