Title: Freetime Crash Issues
Post by: LJaneW on March 10, 2008, 08:02:27 pm
FYI  I have all Expansions as well as Glamour Life, Family Fun, and Teen Style Stuff.

Since the first day I installed Freetime I have been having issues with it crashing.  I thought, initially, that it was due to my custom content but now I believe otherwise.
When I first noticed issues I realized I had installed incorrectly, My fault and I should know better.  I removed my content than reinstalled properly.  So I played for a bit and no issues so I slowly added my content back bit-by-bit, no issues.  Than all of a sudden the game started to crash big time.  I couldn’t play for more than 5 mins. Without a crash.  Then I installed the No CD Patch (Fixed .exe).  I played for two or three days without any issues until I started getting better in a few areas of freetime.  My issues now seem to have to do with freetime itself.  For example; When my sim reached the top of the spy career she got the reward, a listening device, when she used it the game crashed.  When my sim won first prize in a cooking contest the game crashed.  When my sim got a promotion with a new career the game crashed, twice.  When I tried to select a secondary aspiration the game crashed.

I think there are a couple of other bugs that are to do with freetime but not causing the game to crash.  My sim seems to be repeating enthusiasm benefits.  Meaning, she gained enthusiasm in cooking and was able to serve a cheese platter than a little bit later the same thing.  It was the same day and she had not lost or I was not informed that she had lost enthusiasm in food and dining.
The other bug I am not sure of yet.  I might be losing days in the seasons when I save and quit.  I save at 3 days left and load back up with only 1 day.  I am still not sure about that one.  I am going to start keeping a better eye on that and correct myself if I am wrong.

There you have it.  My issues with freetime!  I am certain they do not have anything to do with my content and everything to do with the expansion itself.  I will update if I have any corrections or any more issues.

For the record:  My specs are fine!

if you've added in the CC bit by bit, and got issues after a time, then it might be the CC you put in last or next to last that is causing the problems. if you have no issues at all without anything of the CC in your game, then it might be a free time issue.

right now, I'm playing without any CC except a few hacks, and my game is running smoothly without any problems or crashes so far.

Here's a problem I've discovered... actually a couple of problems: When I first got the game, I played and I played to see what everybody's "predestined hobby" was. I loved the whole idea of the complete randomness. Turned out not to be so much randomness... several Sims had the same interests! *yawn* Some didn't seem to have ANY innate interest AT ALL! So then I found a hack over at simwardrobe.com called the "Predestined Hobby Adjuster". What THAT does is 2 things... you can view any Sim on the lot's predestined hobby, or you can assign a NEW predestined hobby to anyone on the lot. I figured this would fix my problem, so I installed it. Now EVERYONE'S predestined hobby is sports according to the "predestined hobby adjuster". Keep in mind that I haven't actually TESTED whether or not this thing was accurate in reporting all those Sims' hobbies as Sports, but I just got really frustrated with having to choose a new hobby for all my Sims. Afterall, as I said, the main part about the whole "predestined hobbies" that I liked so much was that it was supposed to be RANDOM!

Anyway, sorry for ranting a bit there, but what it boils down to now is that i actually DO have to get EACH Sim to try out EVERY hobby, and HOPE that they all find one, and that it will be different from everyone else's :/ AARGH!!! *runs around in circles screaming*

well, predestined hobbies are that from the beginning. it's got something to do with the personality traits of the sim. if two sims has got the exact same personality, they'll probably have the same predestinated hobby, too. (at least I think it's this way it works)

well, it doesn't help to say just that. games can crash of so many reasons that just saying it crashes won't help us. but there's plenty of tips you can try around in the help thread, so you should try reading before asking.

Title: Update
Post by: LJaneW on March 13, 2008, 09:09:08 am
ok so I have been having major crash issues since I posted. I made a decision the other day...I completely took The Sims 2 off my computer then did a disk clean up and a "crap clean" than I reinstalled. I installed without pets because I never use it. I am hoping that the only thing that I will miss from that EP is the fancy black telephone. After that I cleaned up my downloads folder. BIGTIME! I deleted a lot of stuff and kept the bare min. After I reinstalled I played for about an hour without any hacks or downloads.
Since adding my CC I have not crashed once. I do believe I have a few bugs/glitches but nothing major.
Examples:

1. earings glitched for a minute but are fine now
2. Garden building tool got stuck but I only played that lot for an hour so I have no idea if it is still there :) heh..
3. I can only warm up on the ballet bar
4. I was able to hunt for bugs when I loaded the game now I am not

Thats all I can remember right now...

To clarify my previous crash issues.  there was no blue screen, no repeating music.  Just a pop error saying the application has terminated.

I don´t have any crash issues, and I´m sorry that I can´t help you with that, but I can give you some answers:

The sims can do ballet excersizes when they have warmed up often enough.

The hobbies will show up as soon as the sims do the connected action, you maybe have to try all of them, sometimes it can be the last...

There are for sure some more mysteries waiting to be explored...

I have found this to be true as well. There have been times where I've tried EVERY hobby, and the "glow" that you should see around their predestined hobby never shows up anywhere. So do you mean that, for example, you may have to try every type of, say, the sports hobby, to find that that is their innate interest? Because lately I have been having to use that object from simwardrobe.com to CHOOSE Sims' hobbies for them, when, honestly, I wanted it to be completely random. As I said, though, sometimes no hobby ever clicks :(

I have a specific issue in which the new sewing machine crashes my game (trying to place it, more specifically) -- I don't know what custom content could cause that, but when I figure it out.... I'll report back... If my computer's hard drive is as fed up as I am with the load/crash/remove cc/load/crash pattern as I am....

Everytime I try to load my sims, who were already in the game I keep getting "controller...lot load...pull down curtain" error wat the heck does that mean??? Has anyone got a solution? I'm thinking that I'm going to have to use the hack detector thingy and erase all the hacks that dont go together and see what happens.

Oh yea does anyone know a way to get the game to load faster?

Title: Freetime Crash Issues
Post by: Kazzandra on March 23, 2008, 05:58:02 pm
Dear fsinaswee-- do you have any curtains (maybe downloaded with a lot) that automatically open or close at night? Those are most suspect. Go ahead before you go into one of those lots and pres ctl+shift+c and type in "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" and if it is an object problem, you should get a pop up box as you load the lot-- press delete when asked what to do.

As far as loading faster, try compressing your downloads folder with DJ SIMS compressionizer (sp). My game loads faster and my Downloads take up 60% less room.

I found the file that crashes my game when I place a sewing machine-- it is an accessory file. I do not know its origins, but EVERYONE should look for and remove 8fe40e94_maer.PACKAGE from their files.

I can't offer any help, just sympathy. My game started crashing right before I got Free Time and its just been getting worse. Some lots are worse than others. I'm convinced its some form of CC. But I don't know what. I've started with hacks and am working my way out to see what would have caused the issue.

Good lucK!

Custom animations would be my first guess. having more than one crashed my game every time. Kept my favorite and removed the rest, it's fine now.

you won't get the glow around them when they discover their predestined hobby. I get a message that says something like "I really liked this hobby", and the hobby bar get a glow around it. the sims won't glow until they've reached the highest level in the hobby bar (and they'll glow even if it's not their predestined hobby). they only have to try the hobby once, like football once if the predestined hobby is sports, or birdwatching once if nature is their predestined hobby. you'll get a pop-up when they find it, and the bar will start to glow, like I said.

My game is crashing and terminating more and more, ive tried all kinds of things like lowering the graphics etc.. tuening all background tasks off, having less expansions, ive only got a few custom sims in the game that i downloaded from the celebrity section, sim homeys and hunks.I disabled all other content, it didnt use to do this, since having freetime my game is really messing up.

My game hasn't crashed or anything like that. But I do have one problem. Everytime I want to go into the sims houses to play them it loads up but it stays there for the longest time never entering the house. Its just the portait of the family and the little arrow just keeps flipping as though it were loading. This has happened to me more than 2 times and i'm really getting frustrated. I might end up uninstalling everything and starting over. that pretty much is going to suck. But if you have any solutions I would be happy to here them

This happened for me too. When trying a food competition, did one of the sims present a CUSTOM food to be judged? I have found that most custom foods will cause a jump bug and set the judge into a non stop cycle of rejudging the contestants. I intend to remove my custom food and then re-test tonight when I get home from work.

Since I have installed the FreeTime expansion, I have a "buying" problem.
All the furniture I have downloaded disappeared. The collection folders still are in the game but they are all empty. How do you think I can solve that problem?

have you "enabled custom content" in the blue window that pops up bef ore the neighbourhood chooser? after that, restart the game. then everything should be there.

I have never done that and, anyway,  all the items worked before installing freetime.
But I'll try! Thank you.

I have the jump bug with the small computer when writing novels.Alvin Futa was in a dorm and he went too write a novel and jumped back off his seat.I took the small white one out and used the exspensive one and that seemed too work he didn't jump anymore. So if your going too write novels do it with the exspensive PC.And man does this EP lag bad.

I've read in a few places in this thread where people are saying they've disabled custom content and their games are still crashing. Disabling CC won't help, because it's still in your game. You have to physically pull out your downloads folder and run the game without it to determine if it's a game glitch or cc glitch. Also, if you've been using any mods that aren't updated or confirmed by the creator to be compatible, it could have caused files in your game to become corrupt. In that case, taking the cc out won't help because the damage has already been done; you'll need to reinstall.

(for the billionth time: )

* remove old hacks OR find the updated version of it
* CC stoves/fridges that are not updated for FT might cause jump bugs
* custom food might also cause jump bugs if it's not made for FT
* remove insim from your downloads if you've got it
* and generally every other suggestion made in this and other threads.

I just recieved an update notice on May 8th for Nvidia and i have updated my drivers and what not.My game stopped crashing after taking out all custom downloads.Game played great. Then i installed K&B and now my sims can't go to a hobbie lot .When they get there and stay a few min. the game will crash.I don't know if that has anything to do with K&B or if it's another bug with it, or FreeTime!

I just got freetime yesterday, and the very first time I went to play it- it freaked out on me.  The neighborhoods load fine, however if I go to the Create a Family and I make an adult sim, it will come up with an error and it will say something like teleport destination too far away or some crap like that... Then I have to delete the screwed up sim.... Also, when I go to move a family into a house it does the same teleport destination crap and resetting it does nothing, so I once again, end up deleting that sim.... I can't play a single second on my game because it is constantly bringing up an object error thing.  Do you guy think it is my CC and Mods... I just installed the patch and it didn't help at all.... I am more than irritated right now... What a bummer! I was so excited to get this EP and now I can't even play the damn thing!  Has anyone else had this problem?

I have read through many game help posts on many forums and your particular problem is a new one for me.I have not ever had problems with Sims2 body shop.Once i got a message about having a corrupted sim from the sim bin while i was playing so i deleted that particular sim, in the end i ended up uninstalling and then reinstalling. I'm not sure but i think it was because, before Free Time i used the skill cheats on all my sims and it always worked fine, but with Free Time it is set up so differant that i no longer fill their skills like i use to.I find it pretty tricky to cheat with the skills unless i do it one at a time and while the sim is doing the action. That seems to help.
So if i were you i would uninstall and start fresh. And be carefull with cc, and mods.Hope this has helped.

Everyone:

If you're having a problem your first step should always be to pull out your cc folder and test your game without it instead of asking if we think the problem is cc. It's been stated here several times, and our answer will always be "pull it out and see". Also stated several times is to make sure all your mods are updated or compatible with FT, even if it means sending the mod creator a message asking them if they're mod is compatible.

Second, hijacking a thread to post your own problem is a no-no...post your own thread please!

I am having the same problem with my game crashing at the splash screen "Reticulating Spines in the Zone". Prevously i was told to make sure that i turned of my background tasks, which i did. I even went so far as to uninstall and reinstall all of my expansion pack and stuff pack, but i am still having the same problems.

My game was working prefectly one day and then the next day it started crashing at the screen that i mentioned above. I'm at a lose as to what the problem could be, i dont have any custom content in my game, so i'm truely lost.

I have updated my graphic card, sound card and all of that stuff and i'm still having the same problem. I have even ran my virus program several times, thinking that i had a virus, but after doing that several time, i am still having the same problem

I'm hopeing that someone can give me some suggestions as to what i can do next to make my game work. I have not been able to play since the middle of May and i am going through some serious dt's about not being able to play.

Any assistance that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

lydynred, did you not read what I just posted? DON'T hijack threads. Start your own. Your problem may have a completely different solution than the one that started this thread.

Are you patching after installing the eps? What are your system specs? This is something you should all be posting, since we don't know and really can't offer much advice without it.

I have this same error when trying to enter Veronaville's "Capp" household. I narrowed it down to LargerHouseholdsEP4.package. I have all EP and SP's and it isn't compatible. I also tested MoreFamilyMembers.package and that gives the same error. So, if you have any hacks to increase family size, take them out.

Hope this helps!

I am having issues with Free time.  I deleted all of y custom content, reinstalled with the patch, and continue to crash.  My specs are great. It just says "application terminated".  However, my game only crashes at a certain point - in buy mode, decorating.  After deleting all CC, I thought that it might fix, but still have the problem.

I have about as much custom content as anyone, including hacks and my a lot of my own CC. I haven't had any problems with FT crashing -I do often have to reset my characters, however-. I have all expansions except Bon Voyage -could something in BV be causing your problem?-. I am running Pets in the mix so I'm positive that expansion set isn't your problem. I hope that the fact that I'm missing BV might have something to do with why you crash and I don't, because running pets and a lot of CC doesn't seem to be it.

Mine crashes every time a Sim uses a telephone on a community lot ( whether mobile or outside). I thought it was perhaps a bug with insimenator, but given the number of people who say Freetime crashes I'm beginning to wonder ! I've realised that if I wish the game to continue the Sims have to walk to community lots &  back. Is there another solution I wonder ?
I only run pets nightlife & uni with it (as don't have any other eps !)

It happens to me, too. I don't have hacks, and my specs are good. I have nightlife, university, OFB, Seasons and Free Time installed.  I didnt know that there were a problem until I wanted to install a lighting rod in a roof. I uninstalled all the CC, installed the official patch, but the "application terminated" is still there.

Hmmm... which patch did you install? I know the original FT patch had some serious issues. Also, did you patch all your other expansions before installing the next one? Did you install all the expansions in order?

This is a tricky one, because I've had problems which come specifically from patches before, but it's worth trying.

For those suffering this issue: do you have 2gb or more of RAM?

Also, when the game crashes is the memory usage for the game itself around 1.6gb? If so, it could be a memory leak.
