Two computers, Monique's Cheap Computer and TakaMQ Laptop, are available for $1500 with new features, whistles and bells (Kitchen sink not included) for your Sim(s) to drool over, making Moneywell's outdated computer (Maxis), Little Sister's WD15 flimsy laptop-wannabe (Maxis) and Mr Humble's craptastic computer (Maxis) look like slow and ugly dinosaurs from pre-DOS days! Yayy, the college students don't have to lug their oversized computers everywhere at Uni!
 
But, at a mere $3300, Monique's Expensive Computer makes everything seem unimportant with new features and shininess for your Sims to forget about their rusty kitchen sinks and holes in their pockets and the ozone layer above their houses! :D
 
Oh wait! There's a spanking new computer to shed light on the Sims' insatiable desires to own every electronic device out there and every kitchen sink created! Just at $1000, the brand new Sunair Light Computer has everything a picky Sim could want and shouts "Look at me! Shiny! Bright light!". No, Sunair Light Computers do not do dishes still!

Give Financial Advice - (better wording than "Give Financial Consulting" on all versions. Why "Give Financial Consulting" when "Give Financial Advice" makes sense? Available only IF the Fortune Sim or Sim with Secondary Fortune Aspiration choose the benefit from their Aspiration window for FT.)
 
Browse Web/Blog - (Available only IF the Sim has enough enthusiasm points in his or her hobby to do either one. All of the hobbies will become available if the Sim reach that point in some, most or all of his or her hobbies to do so. Enabled for children as well as teens, adults and elders to browse the web and/or blog if they have enough enthusiasm points in their hobby.)
 
Write Restaurant Guide - (Available only IF the Pleasure Sim or Sim with Secondary Pleasure Aspiration choose the benefit from their Aspiration window for FT. Enabled for Teens and up who have this Aspiration.)
 
Start Gaming Competition - (Available only IF there is more than one computer and more than one Sim on a home or university lot. Similar to LAN Party, but available at all times.)
 
Write Novel - (Completely revamped to be compatible with FreeTime. This new function enables Sims to choose the plot elements and book cover for their new novels just like they would on the FT computers.)
 
Pottery and Sewing Badges - (Added to the functions for studying badges on both home and business lots.)
 
All of the original options (except Write Novel) are available on these versions for those of you who want everything -but- the kitchen sink. All versions have autonomy removed, meaning that there should be -no- reason for your Sim(s) to touch the computer without you telling them to.
 
The Cheap and Expensive Computer versions can use recolors made by Monique (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=64137) and/or happygolucky (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=233276).
 
You can use either JM Pescado's "nohumble" (MATY) or Jfade's "djshumblechoice" (DJS site) mods. For descriptions of their mods, visit their sites/threads to check them out. Whichever floats your boat.

**NEW VERSIONS FOR BV AND FT OUT WITH NEW FIXES**
 
I will also be including the fixes for the BV versions that the FT versions were based on. So if anyone has only BV as their latest expansion pack (and does NOT have FreeTime), they can download the fixed BV version of their choice here.
 
All of the versions for both FT and BV contains an old bug that had been addressed in Monique's original thread at MTS2 but weren't fixed, causing the Sims to throw errors repeatedly and force players to exit their games without saving. This particular bug only affects clean/empty and merged neighborhoods.
 
Only the Expensive and Sunair Computer versions have an extra fix to address the Write Term Paper issue being pointed out in this thread. The college Sims were writing their term papers but they weren't getting credit for their completed term papers.

Fixed 4-4-08:
 
A minor label fix was implemented to address the issue brought up by jsalemi in Alexx's thread at MATY. The old label "Sell Community Lot" was changed back to "Sell Owned Lot" to reflect the option(s) to sell both vacation homes and business lots back. "Sell Community Lot" was Monique's own label for the original "Sell Owned Lot" function that was seen on Maxis computers.

With Alexx's permission, I incorporated his fix for the Write Novel issue he addressed in his thread at MATY. Monique's original Write Novel function was re-introduced into the FT version of Monique's Cheap Computer.

Readjusted the prices on these two versions to bring them back in line because in reality, computers cost more if they have Vista and have more features than Windows 98/XP. That same idea is applied to these computers in Sims 2.

I uploaded the fixed version of Monique's Expensive Computer version with the correct Write Novel function to allow Sims to choose plot elements and book covers for their novels. The fixed version also allows the Sims to enter the "zone" (in other words, gain Enthusiasm) when they begin writing their novels.
 
Apparently, I uploaded the wrong version of Monique's Expensive Computer and didn't notice anything odd about this version not giving one of my Sims any enthusiasm. Thank you for pointing it out, Sanati.
 
The new version is labeled FT_MQ_Expensive_Computer_v.1.4_FIXEDFinal.

Mr Humble's computer is cool to look at, but not every household wants or needs that thing. You could prevent more by getting one of the two anti-Humble mods. One is to prevent him from even showing his face and made his computer buyable Electronics, and the other is a choice to accept or not accept the gift. I liked both of them, but I had to choose one over the other.

Yeah, Monique's computer is something I've enjoyed alot. :)

I may do the other versions. Someone at MATY requested the same thing, so I will look into both of these. I wasn't sure about the Sunair Light version because this one was someone else's creation that Monique worked on. I need to look at the creator's policy first to make sure she has given permission freely for it to be re-distributed. Many good Sims 2 sites have gone under with alot of good stuff being gone or moved somewhere else.

I'm also uploading a minor fix later today to correct a minor issue brought up by someone at MATY.

I personally didn't use that mod. Let me look at what it is.. Be back to comment on this one. Good question by the way!


Okay, that is one mod I didn't use. So, I can't really say if it works or not. But I did see a couple of comments from Monique in her ATM thread that her hacked object use the same bank controllers as her hacked computer do, and that the newest bank controllers -would- overwrite the older bank controllers if I understood right how these two hacked objects work together.

I don't see any reason for having both of them together unless an ATM is placed on a community lot. The hacked computer is a standalone, separte from the ATM. If you plan to use both of them for your game, just make sure you don't allow them to overwrite each other. My version does have an updated bank controller though..

Best suggestion is to create separate folders in your Downloads folder and name them for example: Monique_Computer and Monique_ATM. Makes life easier that way. :)

Would that be the red computer? I haven't thought about updating that one personally because I don't use that one in my game.

I 've just downloaded the expensive computer and I 've found a little bug concerning the animation of it.
Infacts the screen doesn't move up when I turn on the computer with the "write blog" or "internet search" options.

The option to write a novel only appears under Write... and then you have those three as shown in the picture. I've used Alexx's fix for the Write Novel Test bug he discovered and talked about in his thread at MATY.

His fix is supposed to report the percentage accurately as stated in his thread for the action icon in the queue and on the option off the computer. If this bothers you, you could post in his thread at MATY and explain what you were seeing. I had his permission to implement the fixed Write Novel function into both of Monique's Cheap and Expensive Computer versions.


Damon, it is that very reason I was hesitant to upload the Expensive Computer version because the screen itself acts very weird until you turn it off and then choose one of the options (turn it on again to get the screen up). Then it worked fine. Just one of those little oddities. I haven't done anything special to the computer itself but to add features and whatnot.

The Sunair Light version is even worse in FreeTime. I've checked it out ingame to make sure the "holographic" screen and keyboard function okay. The keyboard didn't show up, but the screen did.

The Expensive Computer version is the lesser of the two evils compared to the Sunair Light version that uses a custom computer.

I'm not really concerned about updating the Sunair Light version personally, just concerned about the custom computer itself appearing incorrectly in FreeTime.

Hmm. Monique never increased the price as features were added for new eps. For that matter, neither does EAxis. The point of a "cheap" computer is that it is, well, cheap. Your version costs more than the in-game expensive computer and only a few hundred less than your "expensive" version. This seriously changes play dynamics for Uni dorm lots (where Mr. Humble does not appear) and all my Sims go to college.

Will you be offering a real "cheap" version, or can you direct me to a tutorial for price changing so I can fix it myself?  I do not post any files anywhere, so I am not asking to do that, only to give my no-scholarship dormies a chance to own one after a semester or two.

I am planning to come up with a "stripped" version that will be cheaper than the versions I have available for downloading. The "stripped" version will still include most options including the banking options which are pretty popular with almost everyone.

The goal is to provide a real benefit for your Sim (stay at home parent or lazy sim) to make a living by writing articles, novels and restaurant guides, giving financial advice and working the stock exchange. Another goal is to provide an entertainment benefit for your Sim by playing online and chatting to boost his/her Fun and Social motives without leaving their lots. Just the realistic benefits that a computer could provide. These are some of the benefits in mind. And no, the kitchen sink is still not included with the Stripped version. :D

What I am going to do is to use the Cheap (maybe Expensive) Computer and get rid of some options for example:

Realistically, you can't change clothes via the computer.. I'd like to see that on a real one though! :D Dressers can do that realistically.

Buy Video Games Online offer no real benefits for your Sim(s) if they already have SSX3 and/or Sims 3 (You get Sims 3 automatically if you receive Mr Humble's Computer via his visit only) both. Only one game suffices to increase your Sim's Fun and Social motives. Why need 5 or 6 more crappy games like that sports game EA FIFA?

Visitor options.. I personally didn't care for these options to ask a visitor to write an article when your Sim is capable of making money in a number of ways like painting, writing, harvesting and whatnot. The -only- exception to this is the Ask Employee To Study (random badge) option. Employees, in a sense, are visitors to a business lot. So if you are tight on space in your business and got no room for pottery wheels, sewing machines and etc., this is a better option to have your employee study when business is slow or closed for the day/night.

Sewing and Pottery badges on the computer make sense when you hear about issues with these two and the stuff your Sims make. I had one of my Sims make stuff on the pottery wheel for a business she owned, and to my annoyance, the stuff she made couldn't be marked for sale or placed anywhere on tables and shelves.. So to save headaches, I'm going to leave these in to reduce inventory clutter.

As well as a small number of other options. I might offer two different versions of the "stripped" computer - one with and one without. I will compile a list of options that will be taken out.

If you have any comments about what options are most useless to you on these Monique's Computers (both versions), please do comment away!

Also, I'm messing around with recoloring. I kind of don't like hot pink, neon green, striped and odd colors that I saw in the two threads, but I wanted to have them in normal colors that you would typically see on today's computers - black, silver, gray, white and some "light" colors.

Just let me know what you think of an idea for a Stripped version? Alexx has a stripped version of his own without the banking options and a couple of other things. He also increased the price on his version too. But I plan to keep the banking options myself because I liked this feature alot.

Monique I must say I am such a major fan of yours. I have been waiting for you to update  and as ususal u come thru. I cannot run my game happily without your uploads or the insiminator. I am your number 1 fan. I knew if I waited long enough you would do this. My game has its own folder named monique with all your wonderful creations. I love you. I thought I lost you on Modsims but I found you and as usual u make my game the way it should've been by maxis. U should be hired by maxis for the stuff you create that they forgot u rock!!

Thank you, Orkagal, but I am not Monique. I am a fan of her work too, and without the computers for FreeTime, it was hard for my Sims to make money writing articles, study badges and send money to their kids in college (Uni).

And yeah, she did a very good job on the mods she came up with over the years, and it is sad when she disappeared from the Sims 2 community toward the end of October 2007.

U basically made my day Chaavik, since i installed FT my game isnt the same w/o this mod, and now u updated it, im very thankful for that because this mod is one of those mods i cant play w/o. thank u for ur time updating this for the sims comunity, *hugs*

My other real problem was that teh old version didn't let children buy athletic wear on the computer, has this also been fixed?

Plus, while I understand your reasoning about the price, this object is a cheat of sorts, so to make it expensive sort of defeats the purpose, you see? Now I can go into SimPE and change the price myself, but not everyone can or wants to do this. Maybe if you made two versions? One that reflects the new more realistic price and a cheaper version for us cheaters? LOL

Thank goodness you reduced the price of the cheap computer. I only used that one anyway. The other was too expensive for my starters to use and took almost a sim week to afford. I just removed it from the game and went back to the old version of Monique's.

Another problem, when the computer was on a lot, my sims couldn't use the maxis bookcases to study skills, they can use for parenting skills, but not the others.  Is it just happening in my game? Oh well, I will test the new cheap computer.  Thanks for your hard work. :wave:

The prices were already lowered in the new versions I uploaded this morning. They only cost slightly more.

I looked at adding Study Parenting to the computer, but I wasn't able to because of the way Maxis coded the new skill into the book when the Sim takes it out of the bookcase to study. FreeTime definitely changed the way Sims study the skills from the books as well as a number of other things. In my game, my Sims can study cooking, cleaning and mechanical skills from the Maxis bookcases. I don't mind looking into this for you, lewisb40.

Originally, children couldn't wear athletic clothes before FreeTime because they couldn't use exercise machines to gain body skillpoints or so I believe. For the kids to gain body skillpoints, they either swam or worked out by the radio. So, kids couldn't buy athletic clothes themselves. I think this was intentional on Monique's part.

I can look into this and see if the option can be enabled for kids to buy clothes online (whether it be everyday, pajamas, athletic (or sports) clothes, etc.).

Other than that, I do hope these new versions will grant hours of fun for your Sims. And no, these computers won't do dishes for your Sims in their kitchen sinks!

As for my particular issue, I found two different ways to change the price quite easily. As promised, I will never upload my versions as they are for my own use only. Anyone else who is interested may join and search the SimPE forum, or check out Simwardrobe's Categorizer.

To be honest, the only features I use very often are the Study Badges (usually just to check and see how close my Sims are getting, but I DO train them in Cash Register before I let them run one:), and the Bank features.

As teenagers and as college students, my Sims chat with SS members so they can join as soon as possible once they get on campus. I use the Secret Society membership as an unofficial workaround for the lack of a phone directory in the main neighborhoods. With at least one member in each of my playable Sims households, I can make certain everybody meets everyone else and marriage matches that I want can be arranged.

Every so often, one of my Sims rolls up a "Join Greek House" want and the computer makes it easy to build the necessary relationships BEFORE calling in the Membership committee. Before I got the computer, I found it maddening to try to pin down any of the Greeks long enough to get ANY relationship points!

I really appreciate the work you've done on this project. I use it in every household. I'd been using the BV version along with Mr. Humble's machine for internet functions without problems so far, but your update gives me everything in one machine. Of course, with multiple computers in every household ANYWAY:) . . . Just replicating my own family. Only four of us live here but we have seven functioning computers and several more in various states of disrepair.

I used those two options to chat with SS and Frat members too on top of the badge studies which, I think, are useful on business lots if there isn't alot of room for all of these crafting objects or if the budgets don't allow for them.

Christianlov's Easy Computer is pretty good except that the relationship building is now redundant with the FT benefit the Popularity Sims (not Sims with Secondary Popularity Aspiration) get to gain big boosts in their relationships/friendships with other Sims. Still, it's a good one for those who are fans of his mods.

Heh heh, I have a bunch of computers here in various stages of disrepair too. A couple of them are Linux boxes, and one of them plays Sims 2 (base game) that came bundled with Mandrake Linux Distro. Big difference between the two running this game.

Anyways, thank you for the feedback. If no one is interested in a Stripped version, that's cool. Just a thought to offer something besides these. :)

Firstly, thank you so much for updating this. I really use this so much in all my games. I love the study badge options, they are a must have for me, same with the shopping options. I hate going to comm lots.

I'm also glad you lowered the price. While I do appreciate for game play ideals, hacked items *should* cost more, but I like giving everyone a Monique computer instead of the cheap one.

I am sorry to hear that the SunAir computer doesn't look so good in freetime as that was the main one I used.

I'm having a conflict. I can't get the food level from the fridge any more, pie menu is gone. Also when I sell and rebuy a fridge it is still empty, even if I pick a different model.

Using freetime with all ep's and sp's, Awesome hacks plus a few others, conflict goes when computer removed.

I am having a problem. I can't seem to get mine to work. I disabled all the old stuff and installed the new. Do i need to delete ? I was afraid to delete in case i had problems ? Any help greatly appreciated:)

Angels1012, try moving it out of your download folder and only putting the new files in. Don't forget to remove everything of the old version.

First of all, if you have an older version of Monique's Computer (Cheap or Expensive) for let's say Bon Voyage and you have FreeTime, remove those files and install the newest version for FreeTime. If you don't have FreeTime, don't download these. Go to Monique's original thread to download the version you can use with your current expansion pack.

Umm, I don't think computers have anything to do with fridges truthfully. Are you using any mods for the fridges? I suggest going to Paladin's Place (http://www.simwardrobe.com/) and download Hack Conflict Detection Utility. Click Sims 2 on the left sidebar and go to Programs. Download HCDU and install it. Use it to find out what conflicts you have with your game.

Also, keep in mind to keep Monique's Cheap Computer separate from Monique's Expensive Computer in their own folders. They cannot be kept in the same folder or they will conflict with each other. They have to be kept in separate folders. HCDU will report the conflicts but they function ingame as long as they're kept in separate folders.

I think it would be a good idea to withdraw your Sims' money before you uninstall the old BV version. It's just general common sense to make sure you got all of their money out in case.

The Sunair Light version didn't look right ingame. I decided not to update that version because it is a custom computer made by someone else other than Monique. I wouldn't upload a newer version that looked like a disaster in FT.

I understand that the coding is all wonky with FT, so I'm not sure if this is at all possible, but it would be really cool if the Sims gain hobby enthusiasm whilst writing articles.  For instance, they gain happy tinkering thoughts when working on a Mechanical skill raising article.

When I installed this computer, I completely deleted the old computer and put this one in my hacks folder.  When I opened my game, all the households that had the computer in them, they were still there and the money, novel progess, (I don't know about the lottery, haven't played my fortune sims yet), those with loans and so forth, were still at their same level. Just wanted to say, I didn't lose anything when I deleted the old computers and installed this one. :D

I ran hcdu, nothing came up, except that the issue was resolved immediately after removing this hack. No other new mods were added at this time. I did however put both new and cheap into the same folder, as the previous MQ versions played nice. I thought they shared the bank controller info between them? Why would the controllers and additional packages need to be in my folder twice?

Because they used different bank controllers. Monique did the Cheap Computer version and then she did the Expensive Computer version in a different way. I always kept them in separate folders to insure the two computers can co-exist on lots ingame.

It's just common sense, that's all.

Thanks for this, but novels are still taking twice as long as they should with these computers. The pie menu percent is now "correct" in that it's checking based on how long it should take to write, but the novel doesn't finish until it gets to 200% because it takes twice as long. >_>

Edit: Almost forgot, it's also not checking anything hobby related while writing the novel. My sims for example with maxed out film and lit are not "entering the zone" when they write on these. Which I think is caused by the same thing making them take twice as long, using the old write novel function or whatever.

The Write Novel option on these computers is a tricky business as far as FT is concerned. Even as far back as when Monique first released her computers.

This is partially quoted from Alexx's thread because I implemented his fix for the Write Novel function (pardon him for his English):

Yes I read that before. His problem was sort of the opposite of yours though. He updated the write novel bhav to the current one (I assume) but the old percent check was too slow so the novels finished when it said 50%.

I think the whole write novel bhav has to be redone to match the new FT one. I dunno, I actually fixed it on my end as much as I care to have it. I just changed the pie menu to call the real write novel interaction (x2030 IIRC) rather than the custom one, so now it works just like a normal maxis computer for that, only problem being the progress bar doesn't show up over their head, and no pop-ups every 5%, but the pie menu still shows the progress and that's all I need personally. Actually to be honest the 5% messages were annoying at 3x speed anyway. >_>

Thank you so much for this.   This an essential mod that I always use.

I uploaded the fixed version of Monique's Expensive Computer version with the correct Write Novel function to allow Sims to choose plot elements and book covers for their novels. The fixed version also allows the Sims to enter the "zone" (in other words, gain Enthusiasm) when they begin writing their novels.

Apparently, I uploaded the wrong version of Monique's Expensive Computer and didn't notice anything odd about this version not giving one of my Sims any enthusiasm. Thank you for pointing it out, Sanati.

The new version is labeled FT_MQ_Expensive_Computer_v.1.4_FIXEDFinal.

Hehe! When I heard from other people about those potholders and pottery, I figured studying the two new FT badges would be much better! :)

They couldn't be marked for sale nor could they be used for anything else. I tried to run a pottery store, and that didn't work too well. The plates couldn't be placed on OFB shelves. They could be placed on walls, but who would want to look at plates stuck to the walls realistically?

Hey I was just wondering about the "pay bills" option and "work at home" option that pop up when you click on the sims, relating to the computer. They don't work. It's not a big deal I just want to know are they supposed to work and why are they there? But just learned about these computers and am glad they are updated b/c now I won't play the game w/o them. Love the banking options. Also I was wondering about the auto "send sims to college" feature. Does it work? Cause I have tested it on only one occasion and it didn't work. But maybe I didn't something wrong.

Thanks for the updated version. I just popped in to see if anyone else was having any novel writing problems with the expensive model and find it's been fixed already.

The "Auto - Send Sims to College" feature on both versions (these new versions are based off the Bon Voyage Cheap and Expensive Computers) is set to OFF by default when the Sim children grow up into teens and not be sent to college automatically. A number of people complained about this feature at Monique's original thread on MTS2, and she complied by making it an option to allow the teens to be automatically sent off to college or not. So if you want the "Auto - Send Sims to College" option to be set to ON, click on it to turn it on. Otherwise, leave it be if you don't want to. I believe this feature only applies to children aging into teens, not to existing teens. I personally haven't used this one because I wanted my teens to earn a bit of scholarship money and to earn a few skillpoints before they're off to college. In one of my neighborhoods, teens don't go to college. So it is a good option to have.

The "Work At Home" feature allows you to direct your Sims to write an article and develop skillpoint(s), I.E. - Write article and gain charisma skillpoint(s) at the same time and earn money when the Sim is finished. This is similar to writing novels with one exception - short amount of time needed to write an article compared to writing a novel. They don't go to the computer autonomously to write articles. I did state in the first post that autonomy has been removed completely from both versions. FreeTime changed the way computers "advertise" to Sims, in other words Sims going nuts over other Sims using computers and attempting to initiate conversations with those Sims using the computers.. Meh.. Eaxis.... Maxis.. Schmaxis....

The "Pay Bills Online" feature should be available on the computer. I haven't paid attention to that option appearing on the Sims to send a Sim to the computer to pay the bills online. It should only be available when your Sim(s) actually have bills to pay for after the mail carrier put it into the mailbox. If this isn't the case for you, then let me know.

If there's anything else that's not explained about the features on both versions (both of them have the same features, just one being cheaper and uglier than the other), feel free to ask.

Thanks for responding Chaavik. The two option I mentioned on the sim always appear, except of course when there are no bills. But the other option is always there. Its not a big deal though. About the school, I read somewhere that they get sent to college with one day left in their teen stage. Can't remember where and maybe I'm wrong, but is there some type of manual or readme file that tells about all the features of the computer? Most are self-explanatory but others aren't (like the school) or the auto child banking feature which I turned on and my child sim put like 20000 of the household funds into her account! So I immediately turned that off!

I am not sure exactly about those teens with one day left in their teen stages, but from what I remembered, they don't go to college at all. That's -if- you don't have these mods today to circumvent the game mechanics to send these teens off to college. ;)

I did state in a previous post that I wasn't going to update the Sunair Light Computer version because of how it showed up ingame as a custom computer. I've tried to update this version with FT functions, but the custom computer wasn't showing up properly ingame. The keyboard and screen were flaky compared to the original Sunair Light Computer (untouched by SimPE).

I will probably put this off until after I work on a Teen Style Computer version.

i see a problem with both PCs, in university one sim cant influencie(?) to other sims write the term paper(?), more specific if sim A influecie the sim B, sim B hear the petiton but not do nothing with you PC is the only, but work well if is a maxis original PC. I tryed in Frat and home.

I only use the cheap computers, everything works like it's suppose to. All the banking features and pay bills features. Send sims to college feature works, got confirmation of that the other day. I tend to leave my teens around too long, and that feature helps me to send them to college. :D  I am so happy this computer was updated, excellent job Chaavik! :love4:

Autonomy was removed from both versions (Cheap and Expensive Computers) for good reasons, meaning that no Sim will touch those computers without your direction. Even if you direct your Sim to influence another Sim to write term papers for your Sim.

FreeTime introduced a whole load of new problems especially with computers. So both versions do not have autonomy. Sims have no reason to go bother other Sims who are using computers, standing there forever or trying to initiate a conversation with a Sim who's busy writing term papers for example. FreeTime, without Pescado, twojeff and other creators' mods to curb autonomous computer behavior, would be almost unbearable.

The ONLY exception are the employees on business lots. They are the only type of visitors allowed to interact with computers on these lots when you direct your Sim to tell the employees to go study badges on the computers. Other types of visitors (shoppers basically) shouldn't be using these computers either.

Sorry about that, but I do hope you will understand why your Sim isn't influencing another Sim to write the term paper for your Sim.

Sorry to take so long to get back to you.... hectic couple of weeks at work, had to neglect my simmies.... Yes, the red one, she called it the Rewards Computer (I believe because Maxis called it that too).  

I actually wouldnt object to seeing these options on an alienware or humble PC in its place though, as both are more realistic looking than the rewards PC.  Great job on the one's you have updated, and the Laptop looks great in game too! ::smilieiforgetwhi::

Just thought you like to know that one of my teens automatically applied for scholarships and left for college one day before becoming an adult. I like that feature. But I downloaded the bon voyage computers and didn't get a manual but that's okay I'll figure it out. Just one more question though. One of my sims was able to get a loan (didn't have money in his bank account) and the one that couldn't get a loan did have money in his account. Is there a reason for that? If you don't have the answer that's okay. Just thought I'd ask. Thanks though! :-P

I don't know exactly how the loans work from the computers because I don't use that feature personally. I'm guessing loans would be based on real life - if you have no money, you go get a loan. If you do have money, you don't go get a loan.

This feature is almost redundant now with many ways to make money - selling fruit/veggies, selling paintings, giving financial advice, digging for treasure and going to these contests (FreeTime) to win money to name a few.

Nice to know that teens can go to college automatically with one day left in their life stages! :) I usually send them off with 5 days left in their teen stages or I forget and regret. :D Used to be that teens with 1 day left in their teen stages didn't go to college, I think also 2 days left in their stages.

For anything else that needs clarification, it's pretty much common sense to see what some features are without having to go look at her thread for explanations. :)

The way how the loans by MQ worked is, if you have money saved up in the (savings) account, then you didn't get a loan. I think you need to use that money first.
You can withdraw your savings and then you become a loan.


Sims who haven't any savings in an account become a loan.

In the houshold funds you can have so much money as you want it doesn't matter to become a loan.

I've found one problem with the expensive version.  Novel writing doesn't work the Free Time way, it's just the old style novel writing with no option for picking plot elements and a cover.  It works fine on the cheap computer, just not the expensive one.

The Expensive Computer was already fixed in the current version with the new Write Novel function. The new version was uploaded a few days ago. :)

If you don't have the current version, please do download the new one and delete the old version.

Ah that's what I thought. Loans are like the real loans in real life. No money = loan, yes money = no loan. ;)

Oh thanks Llial, I just liked the idea of the loan for the purposes of my story. Just wasn't sure of why it showed up with one sim and not the other. Loans are bad though, in real life or sim life, just thought it would be useful to the story and it prevents me from "cheating" with motherlode. Makes it seem more like real life! :snorting:

These features from Monique make the game so much more realistic! :happy8: I just ask all the questions cause I like to know what will happen b/4 I try it out. I used a lot of hack/mods and other cc in my game and anyone of them can mess up the entire game, so I like to be careful and know what I am doing b/4 I do it. Trust me, I love finding hacks and mods to customize the game cause some make it much more enjoyable (like this computer) but I'm forever reading documentation and readme files to be sure that things don't conflict.

All of the versions (Cheap, Expensive and Laptop) have all of the features up to FreeTime including previous expansion packs like Bon Voyage, Seasons, Pets, OFB and so on. If you have FreeTime, these are the versions. If you don't have FreeTime, then download the appropriate version on Monique's thread. Her versions are up to Bon Voyage.

The first post of this thread explains what were added and changed for FreeTime. I really suggest reading to get an idea what features are retained on these versions.

How much money did you put into the account and what kind of account was it used for?
Was the problem noticed on a home or business lot?
What were you trying to get your Sim to do when you noticed the problem?
Was the Cheap Computer version downloaded here or at MATY?

No, I don't believe not having Pets would affect the computer. There were a few options specifically for Pets such as buying the Lycanthropic vials to either become a Lycan or cure a Lycan, buy collars for dogs and cats, buy pet online and etc.

Let me know soon before I could try replicating the problem in the exact same way you tried to with your game.

I might take a stab at the Sunair Light Computer version and see if I can get the model (the look of the computer) to work correctly ingame. But I can't say when I will be able to release this version to complete all of the computers Monique has done for the community.

Chaavik, I just wanted to mention one thing.  I have the FT patch even though Maxis officially took it down.  Since I installed it, playing games on the computer doesn't give enthusiasm for gaming.  I realize you might want to wait until the official patch comes out to even look into this, but I just thought I'd mention it to give you a heads up, since it might happen with the official patch too.

Yes, it sounds about right. I did have a Sim who deposited at least 1000 simoleans into her bank account on a Monday, but the interest didn't accrue until a week later. This is how I believe Monique intended for it to work.

As for the FT patch, I heard the patch borked alot of people's games (and later, Eaxis pulled the patch offline), so I didn't update my game. I just went and grabbed twojeff's critical fix from his site and updated my game. Worked fine as far as I am concerned with the gameplay and whatnot. I can't really trust Maxis (Eaxis) to come out with a patch that didn't work well. It seems they have gotten really sloppy and careless with the patches and game content, but I do hope this time, they do it right.

Ah.. You should keep the ATM mod in a separate folder from the folders you put the computer versions in because all of these versions and ATM mod use different bank controllers. I updated one of the bank controllers that was conflicting with FreeTime itself.

I created separate folders for each computer version - FT_MQ_Cheap, FT_MQ_Expensive and etc. This way, the newer controllers don't overwrite the other controllers. I think that might be why you couldn't accrue any interest if they were put into the same folder, and yes, you have to enable the mods and exit the game first before you load the game completely to the neighborhood.

You don't have to create separate folders. I did this just out of my penchant for a neat, orderly and painless Downloads folder. :D If I suspect a problem mod, then I know exactly where to go and kick it to the curb.

I personally didn't use the ATM mod and don't really have a say in this matter. Someone said he changed the load order of this mod. You could page back through the thread to find Llial's post about the ATM mod.

I know its redundant but just want to get my thanks in for a really appreciated mod!

I did state in Post #149 that I would try again with the Sunair Light Computer and see if the model (mesh and textures) will appear correctly ingame. FreeTime must've done something in the way the Teen Style Computer and Mr Humble's Computer appeared when they're in the "On" state (or mode if you will) and other custom computers (like Sunair Light Computer) appear.

I can't guarantee when I will upload the Sunair Light Computer version, but I will try. Just the matter of getting the model itself to appear correctly.

I will upload a new computer later, FT_MQ_Sunairlight_Computer, after I do more testing on the functions and appearance of the computer model at one of my University dorms. This is to be sure the holographic screen and keyboard look correct when the computer is turned on and when the computer is turned off.

The new Sunair Light Computer is available now!

Remember to delete the old version and download the new version IF you have FreeTime. Otherwise, download the appropriate version for your most current expansion pack at Monique's original thread on MTS2. The link is provided on the first post.

And make sure to place the new version in a separate folder from other versions of FreeTime computers because it has a newly updated bank controller. This -may- overwrite other bank controllers for the other versions and the ATM version if they're not kept in separate folders.

This new version retains all of the original features and functions as well as new FreeTime functions. This one also has no autonomy just like the other versions.

Okay, first of all, Chaavik, I too would like to thank you for continuing to update this wonderful mod for all of us! It is VERY much appreciated :)

I have read all the posts here just to make SURE I'm not re-stating what someone else has already said. I have tried to purchase lottery tickets for my Sim using this computer... turns out I can *purchase* them, but I never get a notification saying whether I won OR lost every weeknight @ 7p.m. That was how I used to make my college Sims a LOT of $$$ before they moved out and got put into the Sim bin. It helped to buy a good house straight out of college w/out cheating. Any idea what might be causing this?

I have ALL EP's and stuff packs. Honestly, I do not know if I have the most updated version that you have posted... I probably don't, but I haven't seen anyone else mention this problem. I figure if you didn't know about it in the first place, how could it have been solved? But I thought I'd ask anyway

Which version did you download - Cheap, Expensive, Laptop or Sunair? And from which site did you download from - MATY or here? The reason I asked was because I uploaded a different version of the Cheap Computer version at MATY before I uploaded the work here. And which lottery ticket did you buy? I need all the details to replicate the problem if you can. :)

Also, I'm curious if you put different versions into the same Downloads folder or kept them in separate subfolders? They will conflict with each other if they're in the same folder. Thus a good idea to keep them in separate subfolders and also if you use the ATM from Monique's other thread, then that one will conflict too. A couple of versions have newly updated bank controllers and the rest were okay.

Let me know which version you were having problems with, and I will do testing with one of my Uni students to see if I have the same problem. And no, no one else mentioned it previously.

One other thing you could also do if you haven't already done it. Get HCDU from Paladin's Place and run it to see if anything else is conflicting. You will see conflicts with the different FreeTime versions (Cheap, Expensive and etc)  but as long as they're kept in separate subfolders, they will work fine.

I'm sorry if I repeated alot of this stuff, but this is just a checklist to go through and eliminate any problem.

I believe I actually downloaded it from here (thought it was MATY... can't remember really)... it was several weeks ago. I do not have 2 versions, as I figured that would conflict anyway... so I just deleted the one I had from Monique, and put the new one in.

I do not use the ATM, as I figure the online banking feature takes care of all my Sims' banking needs, so I see no point.

As far as using it on Uni. students, well... that's what I used to do back when I had a current version of InSim, and I would use the Lottery feature then. But I tried to use it in a normal residence, and they'd pay for the tickets, but it yielded no results. So when you go to re-create the circumstances, you can just use a normal household of adult sims with kids. Oh, by the way... I bought 20 tickets of each type.

With regards to HCDU from Paladin's Palace, the computer I'm playing my Sims game on is not connected to the internet. I actually have to put mods on a writeable cd and transfer them over to my other computer. It generally doesn't work too well when I try to transfer programs I've downloaded.

I have downloaded the "Expensive" computer (from here), and am about to go and delete the other version from my Sims game so I can put this new one in.

Okay, let me know first how that turns out with the Expensive version you recently downloaded.

I will try to recreate the problem with one of my families who have the $$$ to buy 20 of each type of ticket. Heh I thought.. Wow that is alot of tickets! Anyways, I will do this tomorrow and see what happens.

As for the computer not connected to the Internet, yeah it can be difficult to burn programs onto CDs and then transfer them over without a way to download HCDU from the site. This -will- be a problem if something is conflicting. Oh hmmm, just an idea.. Is this computer connected to your other computer on a home network? If so, you can set up a way between the two to share a folder containing HCDU. It's probably easier that way.

Anyways, I want to wait to see first if you continue to have that problem or if the problem resolves on its own. :)

** UPDATE **

I loaded up one of my Uni dorms and played my college student for awhile last night. I bought 20 tickets of each type of Lottery for her and played for about 2 weeks to see if I got notifications about my Sim winning or losing each night at 7 p.m. I wasn't sure which version you used, but in my testing, I used the Laptop version. All versions are the same except for looks.

I did get notification every night at 7 p.m. Also tested on a community lot to see if I got notification at 7 p.m. and got that too.

So, I looked back here to see if you added any more comments to the issue. This is a tricky issue to track down. From what I am guessing, you could have something blocking your messages from showing up on the screen.

I recommend looking through the Downloads folder for any mod that is not compatible with FreeTime and checking back with the sites you downloaded your mods from to see if there were new updates for FreeTime. One of the most common misunderstandings is Insim.. Insim hasn't been updated for FreeTime, and there have been people saying that Insim doesn't work right with the latest expansion pack. Although Insim "seems" to work right, but it doesn't under the hood. So if you got Insim tucked away in the Downloads folder, take it out. You can get Sim Blender to replace Insim at TJ's site (http://www.simbology.com/smf/index.php/topic,20.0.html).

Okay, Chaavik, it's working now :) I'm not really sure WHAT it was that I changed that made it come back or whatever, though. I uninstalled EVERYTHING that had ANYTHING to do with "Monique's Hacked Computer", and then installed your new "Expensive" version of it. I have not had the BV version of InSim installed for some time now, and I DID install the Simblender.

By the way... I had an idea for it as I was playing tonight... I thought it might be neat to have an "online dating service" where you can pick any man or woman (depending on gender preference) from the neighborhood log, and go out with them on a date. The candidates can even be listed in order of highest chemistry to lowest. Just a thought before I forget it. I know that the Gypsy lady serves as a matchmaking service, but let's face it... she sucks! You're stuck with whatever piece of crap that drops outta the sky :P

So there's all the info I can think of right now. Thanks for your help, and I'm sorry for bein a little late getting back to you. Again, AWESOME job on this mod!

For the online dating service, there is one that does it for free and doesn't require a computer heh. The crystal ball does that and better and is available at Simbology where the Sim Blender is located. From what I read, you get to choose one out of five Sims available (chosen with the highest chemistry in the neighborhood) after you tell the crystal ball what you want for free, and your chosen date will show up for your Sim. That was the gist from what I understand.

Yeah... I have the "Find A Mate" crystal ball, but that only gives 5 choices, and usually they're REALLY ugly, LOL! So I was just thinking maybe you could add an online dating service that really lets the user choose from a pool of eligible bachelors/bachelorettes. Now, of course not all of the eligible bachelors/bachelorettes will be a perfect fit chemistry-wise, but hey... that's how real dating sites ARE ;) Ya gotta keep trying till ya find the right one! Oh, and maybe they could narrow their search by skintone and hair color too.

Unfortunately, the game doesn't care whether the Sims are pretty or ugly when it chooses a small number of eligible dates from a large pool of townies, downtownies and college townies. I don't think there -is- a way to tell the game to pick the pretty ones.

One time I used the gypsy to conjure up my Sim's dream date, and he fell out of the sky. He wasn't too bad looking. At the time, I didn't know the game chose him straight out of the Sim bin and wondered why my Sim wasn't able to call him again for a new date.

The game really doesn't care where it was getting these Sims, so it's pretty much up to us to give these ugly Sims their permanent makeovers which can be very tedious.. I could've used the deleteallcharacters cheat, but I loved the Montys and the Capps so much for their entertainment value (They get into fights all the time on community lots). ;)

Well, the thing is. I've never used the Alienware computer or its variants. Someone asked me about the LS computer reward awhile ago, and well, I don't use that one either.

I've tried to get the TeenStyle PC to work properly ingame and taken a break from this little project for awhile.

Hey Chaavik! I've found a remedy for this problem :) I simply use the InSim to get one of my "pretty/handsome" Sims pregnant with their OWN babies... meaning they are both mother AND father. This keeps the "pretty/handsome" genes dominant, thus making the dating pool larger and full of more desirable Sims!...Voila! Now if only I could find a way to kill EVERY ugly Sim in my neighborhood efficiently... *goes off to plot a strategy* :P

Heh :D Pescado already had that taken care of with the FFS Lot Debugger where you can smite Sims walking by if you like it that way.

I've tried what I called the Empty 'Hood method where I would download the empty templates for the neighborhoods like Downtown, Bluewater and etc and follow the directions to completely clean out everything including Sims. I had no ugly Sims in my clean neighborhood now that I don't have to do anything like smiting ugly Sims!

Anyways, good to know you found a way around that issue with ugly Sims.

I always wait till I use a DL in the game before I make any comments, which usually means I never get back to creators.  Anyway...

There are two tutorials done by SaraMK and Jordi (before he retired) to follow and create clean-empty neighborhoods. I used both tutorials to make my own and to get rid of most townies in HP's Megahood.

Keep in mind that these tutorials won't affect existing neighborhoods and townies in those 'hoods.

This tutorial (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=4306.0) by SaraMK has a bunch of templates to suit your needs - a bunch of cleaned up templates with only playable Sims and townies they knew and a bunch of empty templates with no playable Sims and townies. The templates for Desiderata Valley are found in the last 2 or 3 pages of the thread.

Emma also have templates in a thread at MATY. Whatever floats your boat.

This tutorial (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,5861.0.html) by Jordi is basically instructions to totally clean out the neighborhood and create new townies/npcs. It refers to the templates in SarakMK's thread and a bunch of mods by Pescado. I used both tutorials for the types of 'hoods I wanted in my game. This tutorial works up to FreeTime although it stated Seasons.


I haven't been able to locate the LS reward (that big red computer) although I remembered having it before. But if someone knows where I can download it to look at and see if I will do it, then I appreciate any help finding it to download.

I don't know when I will upload the new updated computer, but I won't get around to looking into the computer until this weekend or after.

No, there isn't a global version of Monique's work. There used to be one, but I think a good number of people didn't want that per se her original thread at MTS2.

I was playing my Uni student the other night and had no problem getting her to write her term paper on the Expensive Computer version. She got credit for the term paper she completed.

Do you have any college-related or computer-related mods beside the Monique computer versions for FT you use? And what is your latest expansion pack? I saw that you're using these computers for FT, but if you didn't have FT as your latest pack, then that may be the problem. I wanted to be sure that I understood what you have or don't have.

The Action Bhavs for both the Cheap and Expensive versions are different because Monique did not base the Expensive version on the Cheap version. She redid the Expensive version with new bhavs. I don't know why she did that since it was much easier to base the newer version on the Cheap version and add new features/badges to the old code. The Laptop version is based on the Cheap version. That is why both of these versions are the same.

Thank you for telling me about this. Let me know what college-related and/or computer-related mods you have and what your latest expansion pack is. I try to track as much info as I can when there is something going on with any version of Monique's computers for FT.

The IKEA pack is a stuff pack, not an expansion pack. I also have it. In two months, Apartment Life will be released as an expansion pack. I planned to update all of the computer/laptop versions for that if they needed any more updating.
 
Smonaff's No Jealousy hack isn't updated for FT as far as I know. Heck, he hasn't updated any of his mods in a long time. I used to have a couple of his mods in my Downloads folder for PMS and Jogging, but I have since removed them when I installed FT.
 
There are better no jealousy mods out there that are updated for FT.
 
No, the Study -> Parenting skill couldn't be added. Even Alexx58 couldn't add it to his computer versions. He based his own version off the BV version Monique released last year, just like mine. But he has a different approach in not having any online banking, shopping and I think clothing functions on his two or three versions. One is Enthusiasm-based. But none of his versions has the Parenting skill added either.

A question for you, Chaavik, or anyone: Is there a way to update to the new FreeTime version without losing all of my Sims saved bank balances?  I've been putting off updating because I don't want them to lose their money, but this update sure does look appealing :)

I would just go an withdrawl their money, but I have something like 80 playable sims and a lot of them have bank accounts, and that would take forever.

To be on the safe side, I would withdraw my Sims' money from their accounts and then install the new FT version for the game before putting their money back into their accounts. But that is up to you.
 
 
**NEW VERSIONS FOR BV AND FT OUT WITH NEW FIXES**
 
I will also be including the fixes for the BV versions that the FT versions were based on. So if anyone has only BV as their latest expansion pack (and does NOT have FreeTime), they can download the fixed BV version of their choice here.
 
All of the versions for both FT and BV contains an old bug that had been addressed in Monique's original thread at MTS2 but weren't fixed, causing the Sims to throw errors repeatedly and force players to exit their games without saving. This particular bug only affects clean/empty and merged neighborhoods.
 
Only the Expensive and Sunair Computer versions have an extra fix to address the Write Term Paper issue being pointed out in this thread. The college Sims were writing their term papers but they weren't getting credit for their completed term papers.

If you haven't visited http://www.Simbology.com, you can go there to check out a couple of mods that does have something to do with jealousy and romance. I used those from there as well as http://www.simlogical.com for the relationship mod. I liked Inge's relationship mod because the description for it made sense. Just check them out for yourself. And all of them are updated for FT.
 
Ah, the new versions doesn't just have that fix but they also contained another fix completely separate from the one you talked about. But thanks for pointing it out anyways. :)

There are better mods out there that are updated or made for FT. I don't plan to update any of those mods I don't play with, BUT I do plan to update the computers for AL if these computers need any updating for AL.

I had become so desperate for this update I had even considered trying to make it myself but while I know how to use SimPE and roughly which resources needed altering I didn't really have a clue where to start. I took a look at the Prima Guide for Apartment Life and saw a few things I'm now considering to add to MQ's computers and also will do a new computer that came with the expansion pack because this one looked very nice.
 
In the Plans (Possible):
 
- Add a section to buy reagents, potions, cauldrons and spellbooks to the computers with three sub-menus for alignments.
 
Example: Witchcraft->Good
                              Neutral
                              Evil
                              General (Spellbooks, cauldrons and Witch cure   potion)
 
** The above will depend on whether these items are extractable and can be made buyable through the computer in the same way the potions were bought off the gypsy lady. So, I'll see what can be done. **
 
 
I will confirm here if MQ's computers are safe to use with AL once I do the testing for awhile to make sure they weren't broken by AL.

EDIT:

The current FT computers can be used safely with AL until further notice when I am able to look into adding potions, reagents and items to the computers for the Sims to buy online.

This option should be available on the Maxis computers if I am not mistaken. I could check to make absolutely sure that this was already available as a default option. I think I saw "Place Ad For Roommate", but I will check anyways to make sure.

The option- Search For Roommate - is available on only the Maxis computers. So this is added to my To-Do List to add to all of the computers.

You can still use the FT computers for now until the new updates are in.

I discovered that these computers are very important in small and cramped apartments where there is no room for a bookcase and maybe one or two skilling objects. So these computers with the Study Skill option are too good to pass up for starting Sims.

The thread doesn't describe what options those computers have, and the picture doesn't show any new options on the computer other than a re-mesh or re-texture.

Nothing there shows that the computers are different from the computers here in short. Nor are they different from Alexx58's computers either. Unless there are pictures to show the other options that these Monique computers don't have.

No, I wasn't saying they have new options offered, just different styles of computers with Monique and your files attached. Sorry to have offend you. :)

Eh, it's okay. Just that the thread wasn't clear enough to mention that they were just new meshes and textures. I was under the impression that there were "new" options as in options on the computers to direct the Sims to perform.

Once I get the kinks out of the computers for AL and test them thoroughly, I will set up a new thread with AL-only computers to keep them separate from the FT and BV versions.

I will probably not add any reagents, potions, spellbooks and cauldrons to the computers because there are mods out there to remove the requirements for casting spells (I.E. - requires a reagent to cast a spell). They are easy to obtain, so it is probably redundant to add anything new to the computers because they can make their own reagents and potions very easily.

Give us the option.

The current computers for FT have the Blog and Browse options. They only show up if your Sim has more points in his or her hobby to be able to blog or browse the web. The description is on the first post (first page).

The new versions for AL are delayed a bit for now, but they will be done when a new version of SimPE is released publicly.

I personally couldn't live without Monique's computer hacks (lol, cause I'm weak !!) and was very much disappointed to find out before that it was no longer being updated by herself due to her unannounced disappearance from the community (which always made me wonder if she was alright wherever she is now and whatever she's doing).

An update for the FT versions is pending to include enthusiasm for studying and writing. Also a possible update for the BV versions is pending after I determine whether the two badges for employees are missing or not on the BV/FT versions. Monique left out two employee badges by accident, and while I was testing the AL version with new enthusiasm added to Write, Study and Study Badge options, I noticed that the two employee badges weren't available.

Updates will take a little longer until the tests and changes are made.

To Do:

Look into a fix for Buy Video Games to include the newer games from FT (may not be included until a later update at some point)

Possibly add 2 missing badges for employees for both BV and FT

Hi all, when I turn my laptop on, the HP invent start up screen comes up. On the bottom of the screen it says to press ESC to change boot order and press F2 to enter setup, F12 to boot from LAN. It won't go past this screen. When I push ESC, F2, or F12 it does nothing... It stays on the start up screen. I've asked a friend or two and they think that the hard drive may be fried. What do you think? I want to know your opinion. Thanks.

Eh, this is a technical question not related to the mods in the threads for both FT and AL.

BUT it sounds like your hard drive -is- fried or Windows is messed up. You're better off getting help from the manufacturer of your laptop. If your laptop is under warranty, it's best to get help from them or the store you bought it from.

Sorry about your situation. I do hope yours will be resolved by either the store you bought it from or the manufacturer you ordered it from.

Sita, the AL verison is next door (http://www.insimenator.org/index.php/topic,93501.0.html), and no it should not be locked out for anybody. Just that I moved the AL version over to the EP8 (Apartment Life) section where it can remain with other AL mods.
