Title: Farm Life EP
Post by: kevida97 on April 26, 2008, 07:50:59 pm
I have said several times that I'd like to see some sort of farming EP. I doubt it will happen for TS2 but I could always have hopes for TS3. Who among you would be interested in such a thing? Also, if interested, what aspect of "country living" would you like to see? No comments about romantic interactions with farm animals, please! ;)

I'll second it. Raising farm animals, riding horses although I already have a riding horse. Maybe raising sheep to shear and sell their wool. Milking cows. Collecting eggs, etc...Auctions, fairs, rodeos.

oooh, sounds like something I want, too!! riding horses, and having riding/rodeo contests at least. I know there's a horse that is downloadable, but I gave it up quickly. it said that there was a slight chance that they would start riding it backwards - and the first sim that sat up on it, did just that...

farm life - growing food, raising animals for food or fun, farm work, new animals - it sounds like something I wouldn't hesitate to buy!

I'd love it as well!

I'd also like to see different kinds of crops being grown (more types of veggies, fruits grains, nuts, seasonings, et cetera). Rideable horses (either via saddle or hitching a wagon) would be a definite must! Butter churns, nectar presses (what the Sims call wine presses), bee keeping hives, and grain mills would also be things that I'd want.
Part of what I want is kind of contreversial but I'd like to see the animals raised for meat as well. Thier (to put it nicely) "preparation" could be hadle to same way that fish preparation is handled in Seasons (showing up in the inventory and being able to prepre a dish based on that). I am betting though that someone would have a field day with that! My opinion, "If you don't want your sims involved in that then don't involve them in it!"
I guess my like for "the simple life" is due to living for the past decade in DOver DE and seeing the Amish doing thier thing without a complaint in the world. I respect that and I'd like to see it reflected in TS3.

Its not something I would buy. But an interesting idea. I suppose there would be some cool aspects of such an EP.

The bee hives sound cool! I would love that. I also would like it if they could get horribly mangled by the farm machinery.

I would have loved for seasons to have more planting options, like window gardens for cooking spices, or small growth plants.  I like a farming ep/sp. Would be fun to send the sim kids to get the chicken eggs and get chased by the rooster. (I had to endure that for many summers as a kid) Horses and horse drawn carriages, that's not custom content would be nice. Pigs and piglets, but no hogs, they are mean. Almost got nashed by one. LOL!

This would be a really awesome EP, I would love to see all the milking cows and rodeos XD.

Farm animals annoy me so this would not be something I'd buy for any game, Sims or not.

Not a farmer, but raised out in the country and know more about all that stuff than I want to, but some would find it fun - just not me.

I don't know much about farms,so it should be educative for me,lol.
I would buy it,yes!
I can't understand why there are just 3 kinds of trees, aple orange and lemontrees, anybody knows where I could D/L other kinds?
I would love to have kows and hens and lions and beers(oh my!)

Oh yeah zoo animals! Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My! Oh, I want a giraffe, a monkey. How about some Kangaroo? Oh we need some Orca and some shark, seals, dolphins in our oceans. Piers that go out into the ocean we can fish off. We need some cherry trees, peach trees...how about also some flowering trees like Magnolias. Lilacs? I could run a farming zoo, and where is the cotton candy(ok I already have that) The ice cream trucks for the kids to chase after. The yummy carmel apples to get all sticky off of then chase your siblings around and grab screaming I'm stuck to you. ;) (Ok yes I was a very weird child, we also used to have contests and get our butts spanked over and over for who could make the most toliet paper stick to the ceiling. We would wet it and throw it up at the ceiling whoever got the most to stick in the biggest wad was the winner. lol When you have 9 children amusing themselves with this game I guess it creates a bit of a mess.)Oh we could also churn butter to sell. Can vegetables. Another bright idea, how about a working pantry? To store food in that doesn't need to be refrigerated.

PS Katy has beehives on the graveyard I have that I harvest their honey to sell, you have to be careful though because your sims can get stung by them.

Ah yes "workable pantries" like Makin' Magic had! Zoo keeping would be cool! Fishing off of the piers gives me another idea for another post. So did all of the talk about candy apples et cetera!Thank you, PegasusDiana! :)

I could go crazy with a nice country EP. Inner tubing in the snow, down the streams, small waterfalls. Community get togethers with square dancing for the adults, bobbing for apples, pin the tail on the donkey, three legged races for the children. Water tanks for swimming in. Summer camps for the children to get to know the other children in the community with activities. Wheat and corn fields. Real community picnics. The wives getting together to can vegetables and sell them at a little wayside vegetable stand. Or gathering fruit to do the same. Like I said rodeo's, fairs, churning butter, milking cows, gathering eggs. Working pantries. Cutting firewood for the winter...I could go on and on :)

Title: Farms! Yeah!

Sims could have small family farms where the kids can help raise the veggies and animals. I'd love to see working tractors and other kinds of equipment, even a workable dairy barn, with all breeds of cattle and you can make different breeds like you can in pets. You could have the animals give birth and sell the offspring at the local auction.

Then there is the whole OFB take on farming and ranching, where sims can make a living off their work by selling the produce/animals. You could even have fish farms.

Let's have a hoedown, a barn-raising, a country harvest. There could be cellars for the root veggies and stand-by tornado shelters, and silos for the grain.

Of course there would have to be new musical instruments added, like banjos, mandolins, washboards and harmonicas.

Ok, I'm in. This sounds like a fun new twist.

Oo great ideas! I didn't even think about musical instuments, or working machinery. Let alone tornados, cellars. Silos! We could even have the aliens making crop circles. lol We need to add potatoes too, so the children can have potato sack races. This Ep could open up more opportunities too for the sims with the Young Farmers club. They could earn ribbons at the fair, learn to care for animals. EA can just hand us the reigns, we'll show 'em how these things are done. ;)

sounds like when they made our EP's they threw anything together and they did it quick without creative thought into what would be cool to see like animals and etc.

Wow, some awesome ideas have come from this! I second pretty much every idea, putting this all together, that could be the next EP, lol!

I would buy it. I have farm roots, and I have horses myself, so it would be good for a self-sim to actaully do the same things as me! :)

Bumping this up again! Does anyone have anything that they want to add to the ideas already given?

Great idea, someone else thought of this a while back at the EA site.

They had a couple I didn't see mentioned.

A vet that would come out when animals were sick.

A ferrier to shoe horses.  Horse and stock trailers that could be used to take animals to auctions and shows.

English, Western, and Historical tack for horses. Buggies, wagons, carriages.

GF had these ideas
Jumping for horses, and ponies for children, pony traps/carts
Buffalo and deer for Indians to hunt and mountain men, more random wild animals, and the ability to train dogs to hunt and alert to wild animals.

I think that could be a sims game all by itself. Good ideas everyone.

Goats for milking and meat.

ducks for the pond.

Bushes with fruit, like blackberries and others

Stock tanks and troughs you would have to fill with water for your animals. She thinks you should have to water dogs and cats too LOL.

Cows would be milk or beef breeds.

Hay making, btw she loved the crop circle suggestion.

She also said she would like it if the ep could be made for future, present, and old fashioned farming methods. LOL

Great idea.

Here are some more kind of side ideas

Say you buy a milk cow and some chickens to start your farm, you would have to buy feed.

Later you could grow feed and hand harvest it. Home grown feed would boost milk and egg production.

As your farm grows and you have more money you could buy a tractor and equipment or horses and horse drawn equipment.

As your sim farm grew you could buy additional land to add to the farm, in the back of it.

jeje i bet it'd be a lot of fun!
people create cows and sheep out of the dogs and cats from pets
ep and for you sim games creators: we all want this! take it into consideration =)

after AL comes out, maybe we could suggest this on other main sims2 forums and perhaps set up a petition to send to EA.

Oh I know how you could buy additional land, kind of like the business in OFB
Say you could buy pastures, fields, woodland, or scrublands for goat and sheep grazing.

Woodland would have to be cleared or used for hunting.

There was a petition for this on the original site but I think more people were interested in making magic type stuff then this.:happy8:

I have thought of something else. "Mutli-use" crops! Crops that have more than one use could be used for more than one thing! Olives, for example, can be eaten but can also be used to make oil. Grapes  and apples can also be eaten but can also be used to make juice, wine or cider (respectively), as well as, vinegar. So multi-use crops are a good idea in my book!

Sounds like a good EP to me. Maybe they could base it on the old SimFarm game, but with the added features mentioned here. I, too, would like to see that in TS2 or maybe TS3.

Yeah multi crops excellent idea.

Corn could be eaten by Sims before it gets hard, then it could be made into corn meal or animal food for live stock.

It is a great idea.

That would be so awesome. It'd be like Harvest Moon...sims style xD I'd definitely buy it.

Sadly, I doubt that we'll have it in TS2. However we can always have hope for TS3! :)
