Title: First Impressions
Post by: CuriousSimmer on August 27, 2008, 07:33:23 pm
Apartments: Cool as a concept, but Maxis-made apartments are kind of lame.

New Hairs: Fugly!

New Clothes: Fuglier!

Witchcraft: To be determined; I haven't had a chance to play a witch yet.

Belladonna Cove: Kind of an interesting neighborhood, with a city environment on one side and a suburban-esque area to the side. Fun, there's not a really dynamic story going on there.

New styles: Some of the furniture is nice, some is superlame. Particularly disappointing was the secret door, which (as a storyteller) I find to be not secret at all.

All in all, I'm glad I got it and I can't wait to build my own apartment building.

What did you all think?

It is interesting.  Still starting it up really.  Tho I do find that it saves games differently anoying.  so you have to back up your old ones incase you decide to uninstall Apartment Living.

My hacked objects aren't working anymore.  Normal recolors and new meshes work, but none of the hacked objects work.  I can live without those tho.  Needed to thin out my downloads directory anyway.

Haven't even seen a witch yet.  Noticed that they went with a Dragonlance type setup with the witches tho.  Good (White), Neutral (Red), and Evil (Black).  Even says that their robes change colors depending on the spells they cast.  Just like in Dragonlance.  May have to make a Raistlen Sim now!  LOL

I also liked the look of Belladonna Cove.  May build a Luxury apartment building soon.  Only one premade one is nice.

All in all it's nice enough to keep us busy till Sims 3 comes out in February.  I'm already saving my money for that!  I'll probably preorder soon.

I'm not finding the new hairs and clothing all that bad.  As a simmer that has chosen to not use custom hair and clothing, I find they are a welcome addition to the game.  I'm not claiming they are on the level of much of the CC available.  But for the most part it is useable.

As should be expected, most hacks will not work until they've been updated.  Pescado's already been at work updating his, to include a critical fix he elected to roll into the new comm-skill hack.  All the updates are available in the Director's Cut.  I can't say if they've been posted individually though.

Inteenimator does not work with AL.
InSIMenator probably doesn't work with AL based on previous EPs requiring updates.

Apartments: I like concept not sure if i'll use them a lot.

New Hairs: Don't mind them I don't use maxis hair much so I don't pay them much attention.

New Clothes: I like some of it.

Witchcraft: Havn't played any witch yet but I can't wait.

Belladonna Cove: Um its ok not bad but just kinda boring.

New styles: I love the new furniture I was happy to see how much was added and how we got a lot of new stuff.

All together i'm pleased with it.

Oh my God. EAxis has done it again. They only made the spiral staircases going one way. I hate when they do that. It messes up the symmetry of a room if you use 2 staircases facing the same way.

Good luck with building that apartment.  I can't find any setting/option that allows one to build an apartment from the ground up.  I heard there are a few cheats one can use though.

From what I've been able to figure out, build the apartment building on a residential lot, then change the zoning.

Apartments - Well, its just a combination of the dorms and hotels, nothing special here.

Clothing and hairs - they stole our (TS2 community) conversions! :-o all they're contects are from cloudlessnights (MTS2) and melodie9!

Objects - There alot of new objects, but not all of them very useful...

New reactions and actions - Well, this is just a collection of unused animations, its seems like it.

Cool stuff - No, the witches are so lame... not worth buying because of them.

Bug fixes, Misc - Yes, there are many bug fixes! and the apartment buildings dont lag like normal houses (!).

Update:  the Hacked objects that didn't appear the first time I loaded the game came back and work on the second load up.  So hacked objects do still work.

Yeppers no setting for an Apartment Building when first building.  Just have to change it's zoning after placement.

Still haven't met a witch yet.  Looking forward to zapping someone when I do tho! LOL

So far I think it is a pretty decent expansion pack. I really don't like the apartments how small they are though. I only went to the more expensive ones so I can check it out though. The rooms are so small. They have to have a bigger one that I'm just not finding.

The new stuff is pretty good. I like the big screen television and the looks of the fish tank. I haven't put it into game yet because there was no room in the apartments.

I like how they have a trailer park :P That was cute. The new hairs aren't all that great. The new clothes have some really cute ones.

The apartments don't actually lag my computer like a huge lot does so I thought that was actually pretty neat.

I haven't tried the witches yet but can't wait to do that.

Oh and my InSIMenator still worked for me :)

First, make sure there are NO SIMS LIVING ON THE LOT.

Then, type changelotzoning apartmentbase

Next, go to the neighborhood screen AFTER SAVING your game.

You should have a green apartment icon over the building in neighborhood view :)

Would like so see some more in game pictures I you please.

I'm thinking of buying it but am a bit skeptic to how my hacks will work with this EP (have squinge's pregnancy and allwayswearcasual) Anyone who's had the chance to find this out yet?

Apartments: Is really great until the stairs stopped working and people got stuck

New Hairs: Some really nice for female sims. Male hair = lame

New Clothes: Not very good.

Witchcraft: Haven't played around with it much; seems okay but nothing I enjoy in a sims game.

Belladonna Cove: Okay

New styles: Some of it looks really good.

I like the idea but I haven't decide whether or not I like this EP.

I like this Ep!
I think the idea of being able to see your neighbors (finally) is great AND a hygene freak like me LOVES the fact that I can now have them brush their skungy teeth! (haha)
I love the fact that there are withches in this game that do something with the spell power (good, neutral, AND evil!) rather then TA-DA, I bit you...no really, thats it - I bit you. =/
I also am really diggin' the fact that your neighbors have an impact on your job and household and things...one of my sims not only got a promotion, but got the discount on furniture! ROCK SOCKS!
I dont really care if the maxis hair and clothing sucks - I download mine anyway so it doesnt bother me one way or another...
This one is by far one of my favorites, sorry if it's not treating you as good but I really do love this one so far!

:rabbit:

I'm looking forward to seeing what the CC community does with the new meshes for clothing.

The male hair (well...it's not hair so much really as much as hats) is really neat.

I was disappointed that they didn't include any new outerwear, which was a real missed opportunity to match up some of the new hats to coats. Oh well.

I do love that the furniture matches! Lends a nice cohesion to my homes and apartments.

I'm annoyed that they broke the OFB windows - so many of my houses are borked right now.

Otherwise, apartments are a nice option -  a little small, but viable.

Witches? - meh - only teen and up, still, pretty cool anyway.

Living Statue!  [FTW]

:-PI guess they were going for it being realistic? You cant just change walls and such when you rent apartments. hee hee

But you can change the ceiling tiles even with carpet! so cool. And decorate it as you see fit. Also you could build your own apartment building too fit your needs before you move in.

I have been having a blast with this expansion! Its the best one yet. I LOVE it!

Apartments:  Interesting! Some of the apartments are pretty cool! Like the trash shoots, the whole knock on the doors etc... baby sit for me blah blah blah.

New Hairs: Pretty cute compared to other EP's. I think they stepped it up! Like the male hats and pretty cute female hairs.

New Clothes: Some of the stuff are pretty good quality. I like the adult male outfits and some of the little girl outfits. By comparison pretty nice!

Witchcraft: Doesn't really interest me but I wanna see if I can turn someone into a frog.

Belladonna Cove: Alright. I wish they would have made more places to visit like restaurants etc. A little too many parks that have nothing to offer.

New styles: Cool but hard to tell whose who most of the time.... The only group you can really distinguish from is the gearheads... everyone else is a shoot or miss. I like the furniture!!! A handful of stuff is not my thing but everything else is cool.

So far so good... but I haven't been playing long

Only evil witches get green skin. However, at ModTheSims2, they have a mod that allows for normal skin for even the evil witches.

That I know of, there are two different Witch skin hacks.

One of them has a different pallor to the evil witch's skin:
http://sumomo.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=299124

And the other has no change to the evil witch's (the good witch's) skin:

Title: Oh dear, flirting and gagging at the same time...LOL
Post by: loopsydoo on August 31, 2008, 07:36:20 am
I have bi hoods, straight hoods, gay hood and a mixture of them all hoods.

So....

I always gender bias my whole hood first off, playables and the townies included. There is no point if your sims do not know their sexual preference, the game is boring, like playing with a doll's house if this is not done.  I use the Insim to do this.

I do not know what Maxis has done but sims are flirting with sims at first sight even whilst gagging at the same time.  Oh dear....this has led to many fights in my game already.  Reputations go down and now my sims with a poor rep get insulted when meeting new sims regardless if the new sim has many nice personality points. Its a real hoot for a while and then it starts to grate you.

I always make my controlled female ( I make many playables so my hood is good looking but only ever play one female, the others are eye candy)ugly to the male sims I make.  I have found that making her to have one two or three bolts is too quick, they flirt with her too fast.  I like my sim to take her time and see what they are like before changing her from fat to fit and doing her makeup and eventually choosing one.  Even though two males ( I make) may be of the same star sign, personality points etc they can still be different.  So of course she gets gagged at a lot but I prefer that to being hit on.

Anyway, in this latest ex pack these males are gagging at her and flirting at the same time just after greeting.  They are also flirting straight away with some of the townies just after greeting and gagging.  The whole point of different aspiration, star signs and turn offs is to stop this...eeek.

Prior to this pack two sims who have a cross through the bolt area had to have at least a few lifetime points and a few more daily points before this was possible.  The lowest I have seen it happen prior to this latest ex pack is 10  lifetime and 45 daily.  Now it is straight away.

I hope there is a patch to get this sorted asap or it makes a mockery of the turn ons and turn offs, aspirational and personality differences.  They might as well not exist right now.

Also the gestures are too much, not much else goes on except greeting at the moment.  I have no doubt the modders are on to that already as they were with the BV gestures.

But overall I like the Apartment ex pack....LOL

Hopefully they will address that (as well as a huge number of other bugs that I've read about) when they release the patch. I haven't gotten my copy yet...I pre-ordered it through Amazon and it will be here Tuesday (it would be here tomorrow, but mail doesn't run on Labor Day.

I do something similar to what you do loopsydo, except I make character concepts for "neighborhood sims" and mold them to that concept, which was made so much faster and easier by Insimenator. I like custom content alot because I can make a whole neighborhood of "barbie dolls". Shallow, I know, but deep down I'm just an 8 year old playing virtual Barbie. ;)

Toodles!

I've made quite a few apartments and so far the only problem I've found is that beach apartment lots don't work very well.  As soon as you move a sim in, the ocean covers the beach competely.  Sims can still start fires and dig in the sand -- although they look like they are underwater.

My hardest part was not furnishing the whole apartment before I moved sims in.  If I made a mistake and had to move the sims out to fix the mistake .. poof  .. whole apartment furnishings gone.

Otherwise, I'm have fun with it.

Apartments: Haven't played them, and not really interested in them.

New Hairs: Cool, but such a waste.  Eight different hairs, with the same style, to change the color of the hair bow?

New Clothes: Not bad.  Disappointed that there weren't any for the little ones.  A lot have already been created by people in the Sims community anyway.  They're certainly more interesting than the ones from the other packs.

Witchcraft: I like, but wish there were more spells, objects, and reagents.  The magical communities aren't a favorite, but I'm loving my feline familiar.

Belladonna Cove: Deleted as soon as the game was installed.

New styles: Eh, not bad.  Gotta love the stairs.

Not bad so far.  I was too tired to enjoy it last night, and a thunder storm totally rained on my parade (no pun intended...well okay, maybe a little one) tonight.  Probably won't get to fully enjoy it until Saturday.

Hmm, not too impressed with this expansion at the moment! Just waiting for the game guide to arrive from amazon, so hoping things become more clear..
Some cute girls clothes, but yet again, the boys clothes are retarded!!What's the stupid spray painted tops about!!? The new hair is awful! So glad there are loads of decent downloads out there! The pre-made apartments are wayyy too small and awfully laid out! No change there! And there seem to be so many glitches so far, just waiting for the patches to come out. The concept is great, if it worked how it should, which mine isnt! I can't even get visitors who my sims are in love with to sit down with them for one meal yet! Don't know what that's all about! If anyone knows, I've posted a thread called - apartment visitor glitch... have your say in there! The best thing about the game so far is the new build mode stuff! Loving the spiral staircases, new black tiles and bricks, the doors and windows are wicked and great new trees and stuff. At the moment, im very disappointed really, though I wish I wasn't! Am a major Sims fan! Had every Sims1 expansion and have all the Sims2! and definitely getting Sims3! Just wish Maxis/EA would get their acts together! :(

Apartments: It's cool! I really like it, but I have to built some of my own because maxis' are indeed lame.

New Hairs: They're not bad but they're not preatty either. they're just ok  I just don't get why they're so many, when must are just the same and the only difference it's a tiny piece a color.

New Clothes: Well they added a lot of new clothes but only 30% are "wearable" (in my opinion) ;) Looks like some of them are just recolos or retextures of previous EP's. But they're mostly fine.

New Furniture:I like most of it but the best to me are the add-ons like the cornices an so.

Witchcraft: Haven't began yet but it looks cool.

Belladonna Cove: ... what can I say, just another neigberhood

The outcome seems cool :-P

Apartments:  The cost is astronomical for their small size.  They're okay, but I'm not praising EA's brilliance for editing the dorm/hotel code.

Hair:  I use almost all CC, but there were a few new Maxis ones I like.

Clothes:  There actually is some cute stuff!  I had to go through pages of CC to find new clothes, but they are there and I like some of them.

Furniture:  Eh.  I like the decorative wall shelf, but it's odd that the majority of items they made to sit on it (cereal boxes, books, etc.) ONLY look good there, because they look oddly small sitting on a counter or end table.

Witchcraft:  I like it a lot. :)  It'll make my stereotypical "witch" store a lot more interesting.

Belladonna Cove:  I don't play the new neighborhoods.  I'll look at them when I first get them because they've incorporated all the new features into them, but don't get involved in them.

Apartments: I love the concept but I hate the EAxis work
now I'm  making my own apartments
I'm only a bit sad about the problems with the beaches that's too bad

Hair: these meshes was already on EA store it's horrible!
but they're enough good obviously I hate the simple changing of  color for ribons and other stuff

Clothes: I hate almost all clothes but some mesh will improving with a good recolor
and then the conversions....what FT conversions????
oh gosh -_-

Furniture: I love only objects with special interactions like the mirrors the bed and the bookcase

Witchcraft: I love it but I hate the ghost cat

Belladonna Cove: I don't play the new neighborhoods.
