I can't get into the Sims 2 forums for whatever reason (no matter if I use firefox or *gags* IE) to see if anyone else is having this same problem or if it's not really a problem and I'm a dork. I'm wondering if this is supposed to happen. When you look at apartments in game, they're all furnished. When I send Sims to rent an apartment, they are suddenly unfurnished with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom. Is this normal?

Yes that's normal, apliances (except small) plumbing, somke alar, burglar alarm anmd ceiling lights will stay, the rest your sim has to buy. You do have to furnish NPC apartments when you build them though.

You could always go into debug mode, shift click the door, and rent the apartment furnished.

Carrigon has an apartment door hack that lets you rent it furnished, works for me.
