Title: Graphics Card Question Post by: SkeleBear on October 16, 2008, 09:05:47 pm I have a HP Pavilion 6300 Series with 4GB RAM, AMD Athlon Dual-Core 2.6GHz Processor and onboard NVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 on a 32-bit system.
I have all the EP's & SP's except for IKEA Stuff. I'd like to improve my graphics, as they are little choppy and hesitant. Considering that I have a PCI-Express x16 slot to work with, I'm looking at a NVidia 8500 GT graphics card with 512mb of onboard RAM. Does anyone else have this that could tell me how good of a card it is or would anyone care to recommend a card based on my specs? Any and all help is appreciated. Title: Graphics Card Question Post by: Jolly-Swagman on October 16, 2008, 10:33:50 pm All depends on what your PSU capabilities are ,, but would suggest you get better than the GF8500, go for something like GF8800gt 512 or 9800GT but your PSU will have to be capable of running these cards minimum of 500W and 18Amps per 12volt Rails on PSU and have the PCI-E 6-8pin power connector for the PCI-E Graphics cards,
If your PSU is not up to par for them it may well be ok for a GF8600GT512mb, as HP dont have very good PSU.s in there systems. I just upgraded the power unit from the stock 150-watt to a 575-watt unit, so I'm not too worried about power demands. The new power supply is set-up for PCI cards and SLI as well. Thanks for the tips. Now I just have to see if your recommended cards are within my budget. Title: Graphics Card Question Post by: danceswithwands on October 17, 2008, 12:15:59 am I've upgraded to the GeForce 8500 GT (512MB) NVIDIA VERTO (x16 PCI Express).
I discovered that while it is an AMAZING graphic card... really it is so amazing the difference... I ended up having to get a better sound card and upgrade the power supply. I am not so "technical" so "technically" I should say I had my dad come help me- and he got someone at Best Buy to help him figure out "what" we needed and how much of it. LOL So all I can really offer is that the card itself is amazing... we got it so my five year old could play Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance... The people look amazingly real... and it is like going from rabbit ears to HD... So, I like the card very much. Oh, and Best Buy DID have the BEST price on this too (at least in my neck of the woods). Title: Graphics Card Question Post by: Jolly-Swagman on October 17, 2008, 03:30:03 am here is a review on the GF8500, http://www.guru3d.com/article/ecs-geforce-8500-gt-512mb-review/
it is very Low end cheap card and for the little extra you would be better getting what I suggested And the GF9600GT 512 review here , http://www.guru3d.com/article/xfx-geforce-9600-gt-xxx-512mb-review/ also the GF8800GT512 here, http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-8800-gt-512mb-sli-review/ the newer GF9800GT X2 512 review here, http://www.guru3d.com/article/xfx-geforce-9800-gx2-black-edition-review/ @Cocytus ,, even if the suggested better cards are not quite in your budget, then I would definitely wait until they are as you will be just throwing money awa getting the GF8500 GF9800 GT price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130384 GF8800GT 512 price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130412 GF8600 GT 512 price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130292 Also to consider that anything below a GF8800 they are only 128bit and the GF8800 and above are 256bit. Hope this helps your choice of card JS |
