Probably means "installed". I've seen that quite a bit lately. It's driving me insane - why is everybody erroneously using "download" instead of "install"? Surely not everyone has been corrupted into becoming Apple slaves and Mac users?

If they bought the digital download from the EA Store or one of the other retailers offering it, they did download it.

What I am referring to is the newest "fashion" of person after person saying "I downloaded the game from the disk" when they actually mean "installed". I realise there is an actual downloadable version of the game but it seems that more and more often I am coming across people who say "download" instead of "install" and "file" instead of "folder".

You might want to learn more about computer low level functions and the history of microcomputers.  Nothing wrong with the terminology and usage of file instead of folder and download instead of install.
