Title: Things you've only recently discovered about the game
Post by: the evil writer on November 08, 2008, 08:44:18 pm
I've had the game since the week it came out, but sometimes I'm surprised when something unexpected happens. How about you?

I just discovered today that sims can use the mirror to practice romance - while holding a baby. My self-sim has six boys, and the younger set of twins are still babies. I had her check on Henry and then practice romance at the mirror because a want for gaining a charisma skill point appeared. When I checked to see what she was doing, she was holding Henry and talking to the mirror =)

What cool things have you recently discovered?

I havn't 'discovered' anything new, but I did just have my first satelite death. I have heard about it and seen pics but never had it happen in my game. I was actually quite upset because it was a legacy and I didn't want the character to die. Luckily his brother pleaded for his life.

LOL. even if the brother wasnt lucky in pleading for the life of your sim, you could have just exited the game without saving, and your sim would still be alive =]

Here's a true one.

I was playing the game one day and the alarm went off, well my one Sim went over to turn it off. He kept on smacking it. The more he smacked it, the louder his voice got. I think he was swearing.......That was funny.

A friend of mine was telling me she sent a Sim over to the dresser to change clothes and he kicked the dresser. She thinks it's because he didn't like the outfit he was wearing.

Toddlers sleeping in Pet besd is a new addition to AL (and a very useful one too, I might add).
How did you get your Sim to die from satellite? Did he/she kick the Garden Gnome before Cloud/Star watching? I've heard that helps. I'm thinking of speeding Mortimer Goth on to the great unknown that way...

Oh I too saw the toddler sleeping in the pet beds...buts its new to AL then...as TheLibrarySim says.  Its still soo cute though!!

I have never had a satellite  death but I so badly want one. But only if its an unimportant sim that I couldnt give a toss about...

But I dont think I have seen anything really exciting lately:(

A few new random things I've recently discovered, and I've had the game for ages:

1.) When serving meals, the plate they're carrying can get too hot and cause the Sim to drop it...thereby causing a fire. It's too amusing.
2.) Townies can use the photobooth from NL.
3.) You can scare ghosts by teleporting infront of them.

I just recently found that sism can go on a honeymoon. Usually, I don't give them a wedding party and just let them get married, but I decided to let one of my couples have a party. When it was over and they were married, a limo pulled up and took them off. It was the first time I'd seen one and had never heard of one, so I wasn't sure what was happening. Kind of funny though, because when the couple got back the woman was pregnant. XD

This is a weird one but it surprised me.  Servo can pee on themselves when they are scared.  Which they don't use the bathroom or have bladder issues so I thought that was weird.

I believe that's a new feature since ... either FT or AL, I'm not sure which.

Title: Re: Things you've only recently discovered about the game
Post by: lewisb40 on January 11, 2009, 11:07:37 am
It's from AL and I love it. I use to use 1 tile pet beds, but the toddlers will not sleep in those. Now I make sure to have room for a regular pet bed so I can see that.

I recently found out that a sim can flirt/serenade a sitting sim. It was sweet cause the sitting sim was pregnant and due any moment.

Also I found out an older sim can play with a toddler on a skill toy. I have had this game since it came out and just seen that in '08. Really sad.

Oh yeah, just caught this last year. When teens sneak out, sometimes the parent will catch them sneaking and make them come back in for a lecture. They can't go out. I was surprised cause most of my family sims were so obsessed with the pets, they don't notice anything else. This one mom did. It was hilarious.

My avi pic was my favorite lil surprise.  After I've "trained" my sims ;) I'm given to watching them live rather then constantly interfering. I'm virtually new at this so it may not be a "discovery" to long time players but it was a fun one for me.

It happened one lazy happy morning after the dad and mom had spent the morning together. I followed to see where the dad was going and as he got upstairs, one twin crawled over to the other and started dancing (in sync).  The dad was headed for the one who joined in but changed his mind and instead began dancing with them.   It was soooo adorable!

Cracked me up when the dad really got into his groove and started making all these hilarious moves; the dancing wasn't new for me but the trio was simply sweet and funny.

Of course I snapped a pic. 1heart

i recently learned that if you hold down shift when adding wallpaper or flooring, it will do the whole room! I wish i learned this a long time ago instead of having to raise the walls and dragging it.

I only learned that one a few months ago myself.  2DOH

And the other day I finally found out - accidentally - that you can get the camera to follow a sim around.  - I'd been wanting to do that for the longest time and hadn't thought it was possible. 2DOH

I found out the reason why you DON'T invite a romance sim to a party where 4 of his loves are in attendance as well. He's gonna be one lonely b****** for a while until I do some damage control. I wish I would have taken pics. He flirted with one, and the other three got p*****. Then they all walked up to him in order and smacked the taste outta his mouth, even the one he flirted with initially, LMAO!!!

Keep the cussing to a minimum, we are PG-13.

LOL! I find out alot about sims, and it's pretty rocking awesome.

Like I didn't know that kids could pass out, well, they can.

Also I didn't know they could fight! Really Maxis? You're serious?

What really surprised me was when my sims were doing handstands and cartwheels. It was so cool, I didn't know they could do that. (Not sure what expansion it came with.)

Yeah, and the pet bed thing with toddlers too. It was funny, because I couldn't find Kinley, and then I finally looked in the dog house, and there she was, sleeping. That's why I think I'll sell the cribs in my legacies once my sims become toddlers so I can ust have them go sleep in the pet beds, then can get in and out by theirselves.

:D

I have been playing sims2 Nightlife for almost a year and only a couple of weeks ago i saw a love letter! a female sim went to check her mail and i had no idea what she had in her hand i didnt look like a bill, and another surprise when i found it was readable!

Also some weeks ago i had my first encounter with the flaming doodie bag!
For ages i couldn't figure out the  cheat that allows to put objects at 45 degree angles. So that wasn't until a late last year i started that. Nobody ever said i had to use the arrow keys to do that lol. Wasn't until a couple of months ago i found out a sim was able to get pregnant on the honeymoon. After the wedding part and they got in the limo, then they came back home and i soon found out the surprise!

crumplebottom smiles?!

well, i found out that:

1.the toilet sometimes splashes water
2.ghosts can not only annoy you by turning the tv and stereo on but break em too..
3.sims you go out with and have a successful date (the really high point one) not only gives you flowers but expensive stuff too (like a big fountain)
4.if you have seasons and built a snowman there's a penguin that talks to the snowman for hours.
5.the spongebath thing (i was testing a lot i made and the sim was in dire need of a bath but there wasn't any shower or bath tub so he went to the sink and got naked)
6.i have a ghost in my house and a sleeping kid, the ghost always wakes the kid up to scare him (frreaking annoying)

i have more but i can't remember right now... lol

I haven't seen some of these others I have.  I been playing this game for so long and only recently found out my sims could wash their faces!  LOL!  I knew they could brush their teeth but not sure option to wash their faces was there before the last two expansion packs

So now I have them do it all the time cause it does bring up their hygiene quite a bit.  Oh another thing I didn't know for awhile was that they could drive their own cars to work if you assigned ownership of the car to a particular sim.

I let it leave totally took it out of a playable mode, then just use the insim and restored the household and it brought it back but thought that was strange.

Care, I had that happen a couple of times on the original Sims, they just took off and left the world, I found them in the Sims bin waiting to be moved in somewhere. I've not had it happen in Sims 2, though. Very weird.

Title: Re: Things you've only recently discovered about the game
Post by: jamesabrown1 on February 26, 2009, 02:24:19 pm
Yup, it was pretty freaky. They started walking off and if I tried to address them with the cursor I got the old "no actions available" message and their activity box (top left of screen) simply said "leave this world". When I went out to the neighborhood and selected the sims, there they were, available for move in.

I found out that when a sim loves to clean bubbles come out of their rear.  I have "House" (as in Dr. Greg) and he's a butler who longs to have a family in my game.  MUaahhhahaha House's nightmare begins... >:D  Sad but actually I havent gotten any comeuppance satisfaction (for his tv 'tude) because although I didnt make him a neatfreak he loves to clean!

The bubble thing has since happened to a few select sims.  Apparently it occurs when they reach that moment of cleaning ecstacy 1blink (don't ask me I only report what I see 1tehe ) they also glow like they do with attraction when it happens.

I've found out, much to my surprise, that children can die-only because I have a very powerful mod from MATY, which spares nobody from death.
Same rules apply to saving them from the Grim Reaper, though. Sad as it is, it does give the game a very edgy and realistic version of real life.
After all, in the real world, life is not fair or just.

Title: Re: Things you've only recently discovered about the game
Post by: MaryH on March 05, 2009, 09:42:54 pm
The mod is called "Real Sickness", and is available from MATY-it's sort of like the Plague. First your sim will cough and sneeze, and the message is that "So and So has a cold, etc". This one is different from the usual illness because even if you do keep them in bed, fed and all the good stuff you're supposed to do with a sim when they're sick, Grim will come anyway! The only way to keep them alive (with the mod in the game) is to make everyone immune to illness by the Insimenator, plead with the Grim Reaper and win, or not to have the mod in the game.
Very lethal. There is usually no warning that Grim is coming for a visit, and the sim could be all full bars and still be taken.
How's that for realistic?

Be forewarned, though, that in the thread that has the mod, there are two versions of it-get the second version because the first is badly flawed-and it has no recovery for the sim at all-even the second version is pretty harsh, but supposedly it does allow for it. I've not discovered yet if anyone survives this plague. Will update when it runs the course-could be a few weeks. My neighborhood is overcrowded at this point.

It's under the Peasantry section, in a thread called "Real Sickness".

I discovered last night that on the Freetime activity table, when your toddler/child draws a picture you can go into buy mode and hang it on the wall. I totally didn't know that, I tried it before and it didn't work, but I decided to try again and it worked!

For the longest time I've not been giving my simmies any cars-not thinking that they could assign the car to a specific sim. I always thought that it wasn't assignable-that the message "Assign car to" meant something else.
I just found that out-you can assign the car to one sim and they will go off to work with it, and cancel the car pool.
Call me dumb, ok?
But I'd still like to know if you can have two cars in the driveway somehow, and assign each other to a driver. Can you even put driveways side by side? (It would take a huge lot to do it with, I know.)
Edit:
I found that you can put two driveways in the lot (if it is big enough) and thus have two cars for two sims-I'm sure that given enough space, you can have alot of cars, one for each member of the house.
The only problem is that the darned things do slow down the game when they're coming or going.

Sims can breastfeed babies if they are in a house
with no fridge  it's the same thing as the sponge
bath thing, if they have no other choice, they'll do it.
and i just recently found out that teen sims can run away from home!
haha my families are always at least remotely happy, so i've never
had that happen until one day when i decided to play the pleasant
family for a while  ;)

Ok would that mod have something to do with smart milk 1wait?  Cause a nanny just got mad at my smart milk machine and punched it 2wtf...(something I've never seen before) then the smart milk bottle glowed red and my toddler choked and coughed after she drank it--freaked me out.  Also she had no smartmilk glow.   1nails Oh man is my toddler going to croak?  Darn that impatient nanny 1swear!

That would be because the Nanny was below Gold Aspiration. Sims below Gold Aspiration who make Smart Milk for toddlers will eff up the brewing and produce bad Smart Milk that will make the toddler feel bad and throw up. Because some toddlers have a Throw Up fear it may have a negative effect on their aspiration meter. Ideal if you want them to Grow Up Badly.

Here's a couple of things I just recently discovered:
1. Sims with high Film and Lit enthusiasm will read a book while walking somewhere.
2. No de-zombification for you! Resurrecting dead zombies - that is, killing a Sim, bringing him back as a zombie, killing them a second time and resurrecting him again - won't turn it back to a human Sim, not even if you pay full price.
3. Some Sims - usually unselectable visitors - will autonomously inspect the Cowplant, make a first reach for the vine cake (that the Cowplant will playfully dodge) and then smarten up and give up. It happens right after the Cowplant sniffes them top to bottom; they won't make a second reach, after which the Cowplant usually plunges forward to swallow them whole. I really freaked out when one of my Sims invited his brother over and the brother fawned around the Cowplant for a while, but the action seemed to fall off the queue before the Cowplant had the opportunity to eat him. It happened a second time with a different Sim. Weird. Not entirely sure it's not a glitch.
4. The Grim Reaper won't come if a Sim is eaten by a Cowplant (yes, I'm currently obsessing over Cowplants. Can you tell?)

A couple of things...  You don't have to put the driveways side-by-side.  There are driveway extensions that can hold an additional car.  If there is a car on the driveway, the car that is on the extension *teleports* to the road, and takes off very quickly.  I use this all the time.  I put a car in the garage [on a driveway extension], and put a second car on the driveway behind it.  No more being late for work because your sim takes a half hour just to get out of the driveway...

Title: Re: Things you've only recently discovered about the game
Post by: MaryH on March 18, 2009, 05:52:36 am
I did find that out last night-that the extension actually makes room for the second car. Cool! Now my simmies can all get to work at the right time.
But the amount of time it takes them to eat or take a shower is nutso-I mean, an hour? I'd use up all my water in the water heater if it took me that long!

I just discovered 2 days ago(my laptop is site blocked by my dad...protection :( ) that my sims could woo hoo in a photo booth!

Yes 1titter. Mine were at Woodland park (Is that the name? I can't remember--the one with the gazebo).  They had driven there on a dream date (I just wanted to check out the lot) and they changed into undies (whichI mistook for swimsuits) before sitting on the gazebo bench 1tehe which I thought was strange.  I was thinking "gee I guess they have swiimming here..."  Next thing I knew spinning hearts for (park bench) woohoo.  1blink 1giggle

What I found funny is that the ghosts on residental beach lots goes swimming, when ever they're out of their graves. They change into swimsuits and dive in. The funniest thing is that they don't swim only in the sea but on the land as well, above ground. I noticed this the first time, when one member of the family was watching TV and his dead grandpa swam past the window. ;D

Probably. I just added ACR like a week or so ago but I haven't really gotten to see what it does.

I dont really know because I was clicking the lake to see if they could swim 1titter so I wasn't looking after the first cuddle. Then I turned around and saw the swirling hearts & was like "Whoa what happened? Where's the rewind button on this thing?" 2laugh

Yes, he did. He stopped watching the TV, stood up, turned towards the window and did that Wow/scared jump in the air. It so funny because that swimming things happens almost every single night and the grandpa looks all happy likes he's on a holiday while swimming. Then in the morning he swims to his grave and dives in. ;D

D: The other day I just had to try killing my child (triplets, veeeeeery annoying) by drowning her, and because they're home happened to be in a beach lot, I had her going to the ocean while being tired. (: But when I saw the gost I got kind of sad. A transparrent child jumping happily to the water and swimming there (and in the air).

Maybe something you didn't know, but I always found amusing:

If you have the Nightlife EP, mean kids (0-4 Niceness points) can pull a prank by rubbing their feet on rugs and shocking another Sim. Due to an amusing glitch in my game, this could be fatal to the recipient if done repeatedly. Hah!

That if you summon a binned sim to a lot you could end up with a pregnant sim in your bin, ;).  Just so happened I added a Mary Poppins sim in game so she could get to know the family & eventually babysit my sims newborns.  Anyhoo,I summoned her to a wedding party made friends & left returning to bin (& unbeknounced to me) taking a tiny present with her.

I built her a house and moved her in giving her a freelancer career (cuz for the life of me I cant find a nanny career) and it said  "Marie will need some time before starting her new job due to the baby".   Maybe I need to limit the amount of sims I invite to each lot so I can keep track of 'em!

Now I was surprised the same way with Brandi Broke when I began playing her and found she's pg with her spouse's baby, aww made me all weepy..I know I'm awimp 1titter

Yeah, they've been able to do that since the base game. Naturally, I didn't discover this until Nightlife. :P

That if you have a really awesome dream date your loved one gives you the expensive telescope.

Yay for free stuff, eh? Hah. Yeah, if the date goes really well, there's a chance they'll give you a random item. The better the score, the better the item. This also applies to Outings too. I have one Romance Sim who's backyard is clogged full of date gifts; pianos, karaoke machines, fountains, artwork, etc.

...amusing sidenote: the game glitched once and one of my Romance Sim's dates kept dropping off gifts for her daughter, who's a kid. Creepy and pedo, much? 1tehe

I just discovered the Suicide option in InSim (I only really used it for a few things and never really explored).  Your post reminded me of the first thing that I did.  Don had a sattlite land on him, of course, and Cassandra was so distraught that I had her move out (~across the street) and learn witchcraft.  Then proceeded to age her back (for story purposes, using witchcraft) to a teen and sent her back to school.  Just sent her off to college...

I just discovered (today actually) that you can change any lot whether it is built on or not to any other zone type such as I downloaded a RV over at MTS2 for my camping families and noticed that the lot was zone to community so I was a bit sad because I swear I thought you could only change an EMPTY lots zone to whatever and then build on it I had no clue you could change the lot with something already built on it I am such a retard lol! anyway so I went in and gave it a shot by changing the lot zone to residential so my sims could "live" on the campground and the RV hah I guess you learn something new everyday eh?

mines lame, but i just found out that there was a benefit to joining the garden club. i had no idea. i knew the garden club existed and even though i almost always put a garden on my lots i just never bothered to call them and then i did and they gave me a wishing well because my sims garden was so awesome. i actually like it better than the genie lamp. i wished for romance a couple of times and finally met the evil witch for my neighborhood. i still haven't decided if i want my sim to be an evil witch, though. i hate the green skin and i don't feel like finding a mod to change it. anyway, she wants to be a werewolf, but i'm kind of ignoring that at the moment.

Sim twin Ryan grabbed the baby bottle but before he could stick it in his mouth twin Bryan got a hold of the other end of the bottle and a tug-of-war ensued!!! Bryan won the battle leaving Ryan crying his little heart out!!! I've had many twins in my game but had never seen that happen before!!!

1omg  That you dont need the freakin tour to win over the headmaster.  All you need is one smooze and a good meal. Ahhh, the way to a sim's heart is through his stomach obviously.  Btw, why no female headmasters (headmistress) hmmm 2wait?

I just discoverd that "comb for seasells" gives my sim a lot of jewellery.
Not 1 set of seashell earring or 1 neckless. But my sim has a hole collection.
In the store you can only buy like 6 necklaces. But by doing a lot of digging in the sand
you get 16 diffrent necklaces.

Trisha Traveller (her kids are now in UNI) lives on a beach lot. And when there kids were still at home, I guess, they used the "comb for seasells" a lot. ;D

I watched in horror the effects of leaving boolprop on.

Well, it started with my sim desiding 'nope i wont leave the pool ill decide to swim on the patio instead' and now shes stuck permenently swimming (even on community lots). Also, the taxi came but it teleported and got stuck in the roof (wtf!?)

So i never knew that sims can swim in concrete and drive taxi's up walls  strange.

that's happened to my sim, Lance, on several occasions...he'll get in the pool, and when i tell him to get out, he gets out normally, but then he just swims through the concrete. the only time when he's normal is when he's standing! now i'm afraid to even let him anywhere near the dang pool!

Same lol maxis has never had luck with swimming pools. Sims bustin out ps2 glitch is the funniest. The sim would dive in, but if they landed on another sim they appear outside the pool moaning in pain (or if you desided to do a suiside jump twice with the diving board then this glitch happens. Its tombstone time.

I discovered something either really glitchy or very useful today I have recently un-installed OFB and as you all know Elevators were introduced in that EP okay well I downloaded a house last night that elevators were needed to reach the higher floors of the apartment and I was thinking that this lot might be borked seeing as I indeed do NOT have OFB installed and today I used the Gavigans as my test family and low and behold they could use the elevators without OFB needed! and also I discovered if a child has a t.v. in their bedroom at the foot of their beds you can make the child relax and they will sit indian style on the beds and watch t.v. ;D also one more thing I discovered that sims can sleep in beds rotated at 45 degrees wow!

Do you have AL, SimGirl? If I'm not mistaken, elevators were also included in with that EP; or at least one new style of elevator.

Post by: SimGirl20 on April 20, 2009, 12:11:22 am
Yep Jenna I do have AL I was also thinking maybe by having AL installed that the elevators were accessible without OFB because maxis made apartments that included elevators in BellaDonna Cove so maybe it wasn't a glitch after all, and also I haven't noticed the new elevators that came with AL, I'll have to look into that ;D

I discovered that sometimes when some sims walk into rooms, they do this thing with their hands as if to say 'sup?' or 'good job' or something like that. It's a bit hard to describe, it's a bit like a thumbs up, except it has the index finger and thumb out and kind of winking...

Umm, I don't really remember... If someone else could explain it better I'd appreciate it LOL.
I'll try to get a picture.

Anyways, one time one of my sims walks into a room where his sister is woohooing, and he did the thing with his hands.
It made me LOL.

But sims also do it when they walk into other rooms...

I didn't know that if your sims had an absolutely awesome dream date, that the one invited would leave more than just the dozen roses. I downloaded the original Goth family that MaryH mentioned in another thread and killed off that Bella cause she was made from the Strangetown one and made the real one with her parents, sent her off to college and well, she and Mort hooked up. After inviting him over to her place on a date, she made supper and they also did the wild thang most of the night. The next night, she was awakened by him shouting and when she went downstairs, she found a statue and the dozen roses! Who'da thunk it?! :D

lol Paden, one time one of my sims had a dream date and my sims date brought by a DJ turntable for one of my popularity sims and another time I got a mirror as a dream date gift for my romantic sim, so I think it may just depend on the aspiration of the sim to determine what your date gives but I have never recieved a gift *and* the dozen of roses..maybe I should have my sim woo-hoo moar ;D

Well that's neat DaSpecial, well heres something I just discovered today and I suppose it may have been because I have NEVER played a very messy sim but I was bored and decided to play the Chomsky household otherwise known as Greg Chomsky from TSLS game in 'Vincents Story' and I noticed that after clicking on the trash can I got the option to "salvage" intrigued I clicked on it and Greg stuck his hand in the trash can and started digging around in it and pulled out a fish net and stuck it in his pocket and gain an additional 5$ ;) I thought that was pretty neat lol

Backaches (oh the irony since I have one right now).  I've had a sim's pregnancy suspended for a while to age her baby with her neighbors second set of offspring.  I had tons of babies in game but never saw this before.  Anyhow lately she's rubbing her lower back a lot or having the "receive a backrub" want.

She's an active sim and doesn't lay down much & thus seems to suffer a lot of backaches because of it.  Her friends that are pregnant don't display this behavior, but then they sit or lay down more and she tends to stand alot.  It's really very realistic and makes me appreciate TS2 all the more.

Whether it's some sadorandom event, or a glitch, I've had random Sims gift my playable Sims with a cake. They could be chatting, dancing; or whatever totally random behavior, and suddenly the other Sim will just be holding a plate of cake and give it to my Sim. It's the oddest damned thing I ever saw.

...I've been seeing this happen since Nightlife came out.

I usually don't play with sound on, but I had it on today, and discovered that when sims reach a high level in creativity and play the piano, sims who stops to listen will sometimes clap their hands and say something like "Jah, Wolfgang" (As in Wolfgang Mozart). I just thought this was a little funny :)

Also, it seems like Mortimer has a liking of UFO's (and they apparently like him). Some sims I have to keep looking in the telescope for days and days before they're abducted - even doing the "call on aliens" action.
Mortimer was abducted about five or so times just today... even during daytime ;D (only thing I did, was making him call on aliens). He also kept rolling the want "get abducted" since I did it the first time.
But he also stood crying over the toilet for some strange reason (with a toilet thought bubble), so my suspicions about the guy being crazy still stands...

I discovered yesterday that you can use the small steps to make a standard size staircase  Was changing around a house I'd dl'd and couldn't get the staircase out of it. Finally remembered the sledgehammer and I think it changed the section/picture in the build window (like the eyedropper does.)

"OMG - they STRETCH???!!!!??!!!

And the modular staircases are much better to use in the house, since more than one Sim can go up or down them at a time, so Sims aren't constantly getting blocked from going upstairs.  I hardly ever use the regular staircases any more.

I hadn't played for a long time but I have recently had a marathon of TS2 and fallen back in love with the game. I had reset Pleasantview (for the millionth time :) ) and Dustin Broke's wife had an affair and he found her doing the nasty and broke up with her. Their daughter stayed with him and she was crying, so I clicked on her to try and do the cheer up action, but he went over to her and got down on his knee and hugged her and stroked her hair  1confuzzed so i hovered over the action and it said "console" I've never seen that in the 5 yrs I've been playing. Here's a pic:

I have been testing the NPC Neil LeTourneau and discovered that no matter what neighborhood I'm in, all of his children will be girls.
At least, that's how it goes in my game.

I have five neighborhoods, and I've made Neil have tons of children. They're all girls, and they all look like little clones of him. They always have his facial structure and red hair.

Has anyone else tried this?

WOW! There's alot of stuff here I didn't even know existed in the game. LoL. I've also seen some of the things mentioned like the satellite falling on someone. Had that happen to a sim I just moved into the house. I had him watching the clouds and WHAM! fell right on him. I had to restart that lot since he was the only on there.  ;D
I had no idea this could also happen: I had to get a tv repaired and the repairman came over and he fixed it but he didn't push the tv back against the wall. So I clicked the tv to see if it would let me still watch it like that and I saw the option to push it back. I had the husband sim push it back against the wall. It got a giggle outta me. I also didn't know you could set fire to the leaves you rake up. What made me laugh too was I didn't know if you dug around for treasure you could hit a pipe and water comes shooting out. I had the rent lady get angry with me for that.  1giggle I also heard them whistling before. I first thought I was hearing things then when I zoomed in to take a picture the teen sim started whistling. Now I want to see what else I can discover. LOL!

You may, or may not know this. You may not like to use cheats, but in any case. If you do use cheats, in the set of spawn cheat objects the ia a Rodney's death creator. It is a tombstone, and if you choose to use it there are numerous ways of killing off sims. Included in this, is death by satalite, death by flies, death by starvation, etc, etc.

Okay, so I've been playing TS2 since it came out (2004) and I just saw the weirdest thing. I have a Sim boarding house type thing, and Gerard Way (MCR) and L (From Death Note) live there with about 15 other Sims (bigger family mod) and L walked in while Gerard was taking a shower and he got out and L was like, "Ohlalalala!" then he did the "your hot" animation by fanning himself and making sizzling noises. Gerard, realising L saw him naked came up and started lecturing him! Then he smacked him, too! I was like, "Whoa, dude!" :omg:

They can also throw food, a drink, or steal a bite from someone.

Only seen that option through the reaction tester. Not while playing  :-\

When a sim has a miscarriage I've seen that happen in game...

I recently noticed that children tend to fall off monkey bars at least ten times before doing them right whne you play without cheating  :D

If your Sim wishes for the power to cheat death from the Freetime Genie, they can beg Grim for their lives. Which is good, because my most favourite Sim had a non-cheat satellite death last night, and she was able to save herself. (Her parents hate her. >:D)

Hm... how grateful I am to not having bought Sims 3.

This is one of my newest discovery's about TS2 (because I really didn't pay attention before): I have spent a better part of my morning now just looking through Sim sites and comparing how much more beautiful TS2 Sims are in contrast to TS3 Sims. Sorry to those of you who enjoy or like the Sims 3, but they are FUNKY LOOKIN'!! I'm glad I stuck to my guns on just expanding on 2.

(NOTE: The above was not meaning to begin a brawl, but just to state my opinion)

The great thing about this game is that I always find myself discovering new things all the time, even after owning the game for nearly 7 years (even the little stuff like shortcuts)!

One of my greatest discovers is that you can hit the TAB key on your keyboard while taking a picture, so it includes all objects, plant-life, stairs, and everything else that may fade as you zoom in to take a picture. Then you hit TAB again to get the menu back. Great tool!

Another, is when I use a pregnancy mod to end a pregnancy, usually the Sim will still walk and act like she's prego for awhile after that. But, in order for her to stop, I change the day and wait an hour or so (Sim-time) and she'll be back to normal.

Also, I have to say, that some of my greatest discoveries were due to combining tips and cheats that I have gotten from some of you guys on this site. So, thanks, for helping my game-play just improve (not to sound too sappy, lol).

My sims threw a party and our bubble blower was outside, and everyone rushed to it, in the dead of winter, I almost lost/killed 3 of my sims during that party.  Didn't know I had to keep an I on my visiting sims as well.

I don't know if it's just me, but keeping my sims warm in the winter is near impossible, they are always cold, I had to place 3 heaters per room just to keep their skin color from changing.

Make sure there is an actual roof over their heads, Happythoughts. My sims only turn cold if they are outside, especially if they're playing in the snow...

I've recently discovered just how much the penguin loves the snowmen. Every single time I let them make snowmen on the lot I use for LFB, the penguin popped up to have a "serious" conversation with it, involving skiing, hot soup and a lot of wing-waving and stupid face expressions... Stays there for hours, too.

Took me a while to figure out that the seasons in the neighborhood change after which lot you last visited. Maybe because I tend to turn off the seasons... I've got this downloadable version of the weather creating thingy, and set it to spring and sunshine. That's usually the perfect weather for storytelling pics (No too hot or too cold sims - my game tends to lag a bit when their skin change, so I try to avoid it unless I need the effect) - unless, of course, I need snow or rain...

Oh, and if you've got a piano virtouso in the house, other sims tends to stop and listen, saying something that sounds like "Jah, Wolfgang". They won't do anything else but listening to the piano player, either...

Oh! I forgot one of my latest discoveries (a few months ago but really cool)!

I found out that I can make babies and children and manipulate exactly what they will look like later in life.

In CAS, I create the Sim exactly how I want, including as much CC as I want. Then I switch the age to teen, child, or toddler. Pretty cool, I thought. Course, I'm probably one of the last to discover this, lol.

Thanks for the tab tip Kinnika! I never knew that before either.

I'm way late (I saw a thread now mentioning this after it happened to my sim) but I saw one of my sim dads sitting on the floor by his sleeping teen daughter's bed. The action said "read to sleep"--it was something that I'd never seen before last week.

Wow... I feel dumb now! I didn't realize that if you type in "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" in the neighborhood screen and then hitting the Ctrl+Shift+C once inside CAS, you can reveal hidden skins and costumes (clothing department)! You can create aliens, Plantsims, Mannequins, etc this way! I also discovered how you can create Vamps and Werewolves, using similar techniques!

No more waiting around for my Sims or PT #9 to get abducted to creating other aliens, or sitting around waiting for that Count to show up to bite my Sims and then having to make them bite others! This is such a time-saver.

while playing on a University lot (Link in college, last half of the second senior semester), i noticed some strange activity from a few dorm residents there. i heard the sound for falling in love, and i paused to investigate. it came from two male sims that were flirting with each other outside the dorm. so...my theory is that Sims can be naturally gay or lesbian. on another University lot, two females were flirting heavily with each other, which lead to kissing. i have never seen that happen except for when im controlling the sim that is gay or lesbian. i wonder if maxis programmed the game AI that way?

Title: Re: Things you've only recently discovered about the game
Post by: kinnika on December 08, 2010, 10:33:23 pm
DaSpecial1: I'm not sure what you mean about characteristics, but if it's personalities and the whole character profile you normally can choose for the average Sim that you are talking about, than yes. You can create what they are like just like a normal Sim. My custom alien is full-on extraterrestrial... and a rather friendly one at that who has a desire to be a family man one day. Here is the link that I just found: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Alien-Sims-and-Vampires-in-Sims-2
(if you keep going past vampire, you'll find out how to make werewolves as well)

HylianWolf: I believe that you would be correct on Maxis programming Sims that way. I think the turn on's and off's are generalized among all Sims. But, even though NPC's have free-will, that would have been a sight to see the whole same-sex flirting and kissing going on. I have yet to experience that one. Interesting...

I also use it to test self-sim requests so that the requester's sim can have pretty babies.
It is better than Body Shop for testing self-sims to make sure they will look good at all ages.

I recently started playing around with fruit and vegetable gardens in Freetime, so after i harvested all of my orchard trees and strawberry vines, i go to stock up my juicer, and believe it or not, i found out that i could stock the juicer with the boots that i fished out from the park earlier. the sims can drink the pureed boot, and whenever they do, this strange electrecution animation happens and they giggle as if they had smoked something.

Plus sims with gold badges in gardening can talk to their plants. that one was a complete surprise.

If you stock with enough fruit, they can also serve juice (6 glasses) :)

Don't think I've actually tried it, but I once had a modified juicer or something that let you make and serve all juices without having to stock it.

Yes, absolutely! I'm always discovering new things in Sims 2. One of the most recent things I discovered is that I can easily reassign Adult Female outfits to Elder Females in Sim PE. That happened quite by accident when I was playing around one day in Sim PE and just out of curiosity opened up a clothing package file just to look at the "guts" of it (Which is something I really like to do, in spite of the risks involved).

While poking through the different parts I came across and opened "Property Set". Curious I looked into that and an item called "Age" caught my eye. Even more curious now I went online and began investigating the whole clothing package property set thing and it was at that time that I discovered that I could change clothing age assignments by changing the last two numbers in the property set value to the appropriate number (48 for young adults, 08 for adults and 10 for elders).

I was totally delighted by this discovery and proceeded to reassign several adult outfits for Elder use. This has turned out great because I always disliked the Maxis default elder female outfits and always felt my elder ladies could look way better than Maxis thought they should.

Another discovery in my next thread since this one's too long already.

Another fairly recent discovery was something I'd always guessed at but had not tried, before: How to make "better" elders.

I'd always hated how elders were discriminated against in Sims 2 and had always wanted to do something about that.

Being fairly familiar with Sim PE (I'm no expert by any means) I knew a Sims age assignment could be changed in the Sim overview panel so, having several elder Sims who I thought were being treated like crap I opened their files in Sim PE and, using the overview panel, changed their age assignments from Elder to Adult. Viola! All of a sudden these poor, neglected elders were being treated like regular people! Huzzah! :D

It was that way that I also found I could create some very lovely and sexy Elder females as well, creating them as adults in CAS and then reassigning their ages in Sim PE overview. It's made for some truly interesting and fun sims!

That a sim could "steal" another sims restaurant food. My sim Ashley was shopping for games at a store with an outside cafe nearby.  A random townie sim came up, was seated by the host, ordered a meal and was served a dish of spaghetti while sipping a drink. Next thing I know Ashley leaves the store, goes past the host to the sim's table, picks up the sole plate of food, goes to a nearby table, sits and scarfs it down.  Then Ashley leaves the cafe goes to a park bench and lounges. 2laugh

I had her call a taxi to see if it would say "pay bill" or something but no--she just jumped in the cab and went home. That was the first game surprise I've had in a long time.

@Scruff,yep, I always knew that the game had that option, but I hadn't done it in so long, I completely forgot. You have to make sure the two sims are past 70 in their daily and lifetime relationship, and have them both completely sitted, otherwise I think it's a possible glitch?

Not sure if anybody's noticed this or not, but, when a Sim is sitting at the table eating, and a pet (or in this case a witches' familiar) starts yowling for attention, you can make your Sim 'share' their food with the pet. It surprised me to see my warlock casually flip a piece of turkey onto the floor for the cat.

Wow! Out of all the stupid things I've done on the game, I could have at least been paying attention, haha. I just found out that if a toddler is jerked enough,he or she will climb out of their crib on their own. I had no idea, and when it happened I immediately took a snapshot,ha! I was intentionally ignoring the thing because he was so annoying and after hearing him scream "daddy" about a few times, I just considered locking the door until I was ready to go and watch after him again. (Bad parenting, I know...xD) But then out of nowhere,he casually pops the crib open and climbs out!

They usually do it if fun goes low. Not entirely sure with the other motives (as the social worker often pops up then) but fun is safest to play around with if you want them to climb out of the crib... I think I downloaded a hack somewhere, and now they climb out even if I don't want them to.

Get Out of Crib by Inge does that. I have it installed so the toddler can climb out and then go eat, potty and then play without following the parent around annoying them.

If you get a floor mounted mirror and have a pet (cat or dog), the pet -will- play with the mirror. Came across that by accident one day and enjoyed watching the dog play with the mirror for a little bit. It was cute.

Sims having nightmares. My sim had a nightmare about the matchmaker. I guess she feared that as an opinion.
Sims being asked if it's ok to give their number out to another sim when chatting with a sim.
Getting a promotion over the phone.

Just found out today that simbots have "tune-up" as a flirt option. Looks odd but it gave me a chuckle.

I never really played my simbots before though I have several in-game.  Btw is simbot pregnancy normal or is that a hack?  Just asking because I don't recall ever putting that in my game but I heard chimes today sooo...

Playing Sims 3, I recently discovered it's possible to build swimming pools on any level of a house provided space for the "tank" of the pool exists on the level below.  That also enables windows to be installed on any flat wall of the pool so Sims below can watch other Sims swim (requires "moveobjects on" cheat to install windows). I've also managed to build a functional four-story penthouse atop a 12-story tall building. That little trick is a bit too complicated to get into here.

Keep threads in this section on topic please (Sims 2).

We have a separate section for Sims 3 discussion (http://www.insimenator.org/index.php/board,651.0.html). If you want to start this thread there, then by all means, feel free.

I recently found out that visiting sims can walk away with your guitars. I have the instrument hack and one of my KH sims' dads has a Fender Stratocaster. During a party, a visiting sim was playing it but forgot to put it back and was walking around with it stuck to him as if he was still playing it, then when the party was over, he just left. I couldn't use the guitar no longer so I sold the amp and stand and bought another Strat'. It was the most bizarre thing I had seen in awhile...
