Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: Can somone help please

From the looks of it, your computer isn't powerful enough for you to flip between the game and the desktop and leave the game running while you do other, resource intensive, things.
It could be something in your user files (I had that blue endlessly loading screen happen when I used a download that allowed you to fish in the ocean, "invisible pond" or something like that, and also when using a lighting hack, which basically made it impossible for me to play and kept overheating my graphics card) but just by looking at your specs your PC just does not have the grunt for you to treat it like you have been. I had a very similar set-up, as already described, with a more powerful graphics card and I had to watch what I threw at the game, how high poly it was, had to save regularly, could not just keep flipping between desktop and game, etc. I had my settings on high which meant that I had to sacrifice having high poly items and hair in my Downloads and I had to shut down the game if I wanted to do other stuff.
TS2 bleeds memory while it's running. If you have the patience, you can read through endless discussions on MATY where people have posted screen caps of how many resources TS2 was using over time while running. From what Bloom said your PC is only 2 or 3 years old. But from the looks of it the system was not "future proofed" when you bought it. As Joy suggested, check whether the blue loading screen problem is caused by a piece of custom content. I have given you names of a couple of pieces of CC that made my old similar system cack itself. You may or may not have these. In the future, if you want to run your game on high settings, you might want to save on a regular basis (I save at every 6 o'clock, ie. 6am and 6pm) and stop running your game minimised in the background while you do other things that also eat resources. And stick to low poly "maxis match" content when downloading CC so you don't overtax your graphics card.

I use a desktop pc.Not laptop.
Nvidia Graphic,s(GeForce FX 5500)Version.6.14.11.7 Windows XP (Professional.Version 2002) 1227Mb,1G RAM I have my Graphics on high in The sims 2.Have i missed anything out or is that ok
You missed your processor speed. Your graphics card, seeing as it's only 256MB, looks a bit weak. Could be that the graphics card is cacking itself and causing the crash. Try saving often to lessen the load and turning down your graphics settings. In the past I've played TS2 with all EPs and SPs without crashing on a desktop with a single core 3GHz processor, 1GB RAM and a 512MB dedicated graphics card with quite a bit of Maxis Match low poly CC. So either it's a failure of your system to run the game (since we don't know your processor speed we can't say but your graphics and RAM are not exactly high spec), possibly your graphics card overheating or otherwise failing because it's not that strong and TS2 is very graphics hungry, or even if your system can run the game in it's current EP/SP configuration, you could be throwing a lot of high poly CC at it thus causing it to fail. Updating your drivers might help, as Joy said. And turning down your graphics settings. A 256MB card is not really enough to run the game with a whole lot of CC in it on high settings.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: Game Crashes

Depending on the grunt of your computer, yes, a large lot full of objects can cause the game to crash. In fact, it doesn't even have to be a very poor computer for an overcrowded large lot with lots of sims and objects present to cause a crash. Also, the length of time you have been playing without saving might cause the game to crash. TS2 bleeds RAM and if you run the game for a long time it will just cack it's pants after a while. So the cause could be many things, the size of the lot being just one of the contributing factors to what can cause a crash on any lot - large or small.

Oh, great! Now you've done it! You fed him!
I'm not going down there to clean up once he processes those. I don't even want to know what his alimentary canal is going to turn those into!
Jenna, can we starve the rats so they'll eat the stuff that comes out the other end in desperation? Otherwise we need a volunteer. And a new HAZMAT suit. The old one melted last time we used it.

Simmers' Paradise / Where Can I Find...? / Don't exit activity on enthusiasm gain
|
on: October 22, 2010, 09:43:08 pm
|
I have been keeping an eye out for this hack for a couple of years now but have never seen anything like it.
FT introduced a new bug where a sim will exit an activity on enthusiasm gain during certain times of the day. For some activities this means they cannot skill in the daytime and for some they cannot skill at night. Not all but many sims are affected in my game. I currently have a sim that relies on fishing for her food and it is after 7pm and she is about to starve to death overnight because this was Day 1 of her existence and I didn't realise she was experiencing this bug so I didn't have her fish during the day. So I am now desperate because no food = dead sim. Yes, I know I can get food in other ways. The whole point of the challenge is for the sim to be self-sufficient so buying her a fridge and getting food from that is not an option in this scenario.
I have tested this without any mods installed and it still happens. And this is over multiple installations of the game on 2 different computers. So it's not a hack conflict. It is not fixed by Pescado's FT Fixes or his AL Fixes.
To give examples:
1) I send a sim fishing after dark. She baits the fishing rod, casts and immediately puts the rod away. At the same time she gains some nature enthusiasm. This does not happen during the day, only at night.
2) I send a toddler to the activity table during the daytime. He completes part of a drawing, gains Arts and Crafts enthusiasm and sits down on the floor next to the table. Again, this only happens in the daytime and he can use the activity table just fine at night.
3) I send a sim to the bookcase in the daytime and he spends several minutes skilling in cooking, gains cooking enthusiasm and puts the book back on the shelf. This only happens in the daytime, he can skill just fine after dark.
Has anyone seen a fix for this?
I have all EPs and all SPs, all the ones with patches available are patched.

Does sound like the OP is running Linux and not Windows. And the information provided indicates that whatever they're using does not have a video card but an integrated chip. From the Gigabyte Technology site:
"Integrated Real256ETM 2D/3D Graphics Accelerator The SiS661FX chipset provides Ultra-AGPII Technology to deliver the highest bandwidth 3.2GB/s by 2 Pixel Rendering Pipelines and 4 Texture 3D Graphic Engine. It also has advanced HW acceleration for DVD playback and shared memory size up to 64MB. "
Information about the actual operating system, the processor, RAM and more information about the graphics chip would be useful.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: No aging, No Alien Abductions...

The debug option to be abducted was turned off with Free Time, when they introduced the Contact Aliens option for Knowledge sims. I believe Debug Abduct Fix is supposed to correct this. As for your aging issue, does it also happen when you take out all custom content? Sounds like something is interfering with it, so either you have turned off aging or you have a hack causing it to break.
