1  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Is it still my video card?? :( on: September 23, 2007, 12:53:49 pm
I have the same video card, and mine is crashing, too.  Not right away, but I'm getting less and less play time in before the crash happens.  (And I've removed all CC from my Downloads folder.)  I'm wondering if it's memory.  My system has tons of it, but, as I understand it, the memory allocated to the video card may be lacking.  There's a way to change the setting for it, but I don't know how.  I'm going to look into it.

Anyhow, I hope you find the answer to your problem!

2  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Open up buy mode for community lots? on: June 20, 2007, 01:29:32 am
Acehole makes some decorative cars.  Try here:

http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=67540

There are others, but that's a start.  And because they're decorative, you should be able to purchase them for community lots...at least I think so.

Good luck!

Do you mean you want drivable cars, or just to fill a parking lot?  If it's the latter, I think all you need is to download decorative cars.  If not, it's way beyond my scope of comprehension.  Good luck though!

4  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / My werewolves aren't furry -- why? on: June 18, 2007, 05:35:48 pm
Does your Sim have a custom skintone?  If so, the werewolf "mask" won't show up.  They're still wolfies, but they won't look like one.

5  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Can't see downloaded wall hanging recolors on: June 17, 2007, 10:53:46 pm
I have CEP; they still don't work for me.  I've heard downloading them again can help, but I've never had any luck.  Custom paintings work just fine.  It's just the recolors of Maxis paintings that don't show up.  I just figured I was SOL.  Smiley
6  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Beosboxboy, if you have time could you help? :) UPDATE: RESOLVED see last post! on: June 17, 2007, 10:46:15 pm
Yeah, my game ran fine until I installed my new video card, too.  That's why I thought I'd mention it.  Turns out, the corrupt file is one that I've had for almost a year, not a recently downloaded one.  My old video card didn't have a problem with it, but my new one does.  Maybe it conflicts with the updated driver or something.  I didn't even know that was possible.  So, if all else fails, I'd suggest checking the cc.  It might be something you've had for awhile.

Good luck!  Hope you find the solution soon!

If they're recolors of Maxis wall hangings, I don't think you're doing anything wrong.  I've never had recolors of Maxis paintings show up in my game, and I've heard that it has to do with a change they made to the game after one of the EP's.  Not sure how to fix the problem, though.  Sorry!

8  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Beosboxboy, if you have time could you help? :) UPDATE: RESOLVED see last post! on: June 17, 2007, 02:08:04 pm
Hi, trl!

Don't know how much I can add to this conversation, but I was also having the problems you're describing, and (funny enough) I also have a GeForce card and a MAG monitor.  I got mine to work, so I thought I'd tell you what I did, just in case one of these things might be the fix.

First of all, I went through 3 video cards before I got the right one.  Beosboxboy is right--determining faulty cards is a pain!  The first two failed because they didn't have a place to plug the power supply unit directly into them, and the load of the game was just too much for them to handle, I guess.  I finally settled on a new GeForce 8600, updated the driver (like you've done), and changed the system BIOS from "onboard" to "PCI-e".  I also bought a new 650 watt PSU.  And though that made my game look really good, none of that seemed to do the trick.

I don't know how much cc you have in your game, but I had about 5.5 gigs (about 20,000 files), which I ran through the Sims2 Clean Installer.  I got rid of all the duplicate files, but I didn't find any problems.  Since the game worked without my cc, I decided to organize my downloads folder into subfoldered categories (kitchens, bathrooms, hacks and mods, etc.) and put them into my game one at a time to see if I could determine if it was a corupt file that was causing it.  Sure enough, everything was fine until I put my "Other" file in, and the crashes started again.  I took the file out, and put another one of my folders in, and the problem went away.  However, the more cc I put in, the more my game lagged and stalled.  I think I was battle a couple problems and didn't realize it.  So, the main problem was the corrupt file (which I still have to isolate), but I think my game also just might have a limit to how much cc it can handle before it slows to a grinding halt.  I have about 2.5 gigs in there now (11, 263 files), and I'm right on the edge.  It's a little jerky sometimes, but it's not crashing anymore.

So, I don't know if any of that will help you, but I thought I'd mention it, just in case.  Hope you find a fix soon!  I know how difficult withdrawal from your Simmies can be.  Good luck!

10  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Need help uninstalling! on: June 08, 2007, 01:55:55 pm
I'm trying to uninstall and re-install the game.  I've uninstalled all the EPs and SPs in the EA Games Program File folder, but the Happy Holiday SP did not show up there.  I did a search of my computer, and I can't find it.  My game won't uninstall until I've gotten rid of all EPs and SPs first.  Does anyone know what I can do?

Thanks!

Have you downloaded any new beds recently that might be causing the problem?

sweetswami77 - your install of Seasons EP went wild.  this happens to many people when installing EPs, you get a wild install that didn't complete.  For some people, the only recourse is to use the small unistaller that is on the installation media and reinstall all the game & EPs again.

Beforre you resort to that, make sure to back-up your game!!

Thanks, BBB!  I was thinking I might have to do that.

One question, though--if I do that, what sort of problems could I expect to encounter if I didn't re-install Pets (other than conflicting cc)?  Would the families who had pets or werewolf family members be unplayable?  Is it more hassle than it's worth not to reload it?

Okay, I guess that was more like three questions. Cheesy

Thanks so much for your help!

14  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Sorry...another BSOD post on: June 06, 2007, 12:11:38 am
Well, I tried to download and install the 70's versions, but I get an error that says they're not compatible with my card.  Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I had a friend of mine who works in IT take a look at my system, and he has no idea what could be wrong.  He says for all intents and purposes, my computer should have no problem running all the EPs--I've got plenty of memory, good graphics card, no errors or conflicts, etc.  I guess it's just one of those things that I'll either have to pay a professional to figure out, or just give up on Seasons.  I hate to do that, though.  If anything, I'd like to get rid of Pets, but I think that would cause a great deal of havok to my game.  Why can't there just be a simple answer?  :sad2: *sigh*

Thanks for trying anyhow!
