Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Using Sim PE to read Mac files
|
on: October 29, 2008, 07:38:56 am

Hi, I was just wondering if many Mac users (who have access to a PC) use sim PE to read their 'sims 2' folder? I recently copied the contents of my EA->Sims 2 folder over to my PC plus installed sim PE. I was overjoyed as I was finally able to extract my favorite born-in-game sims and stick 'em in body shop. My main question is, how limited is Sim PE when reading Mac files? For example it doesn't look like I can do wall/floor/item recolors without at least the base game being installed on the PC (which is dissapointing). Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else, but I am curious about this. Thanks in advance

Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Heard of MacUnpack?

Yeah, I understand it's not woohoo's fault, and it's the fact that I am missing stuff packs/ EP's. I only use woohoo to install things that I can't normally install using the Sims 2 Package installer (so that's why I have problems with lots).

I downloaded this application a while ago, but don't know how to use it. Could someone explain? I'm only using it to install Sims and Lots that cannot be installed with the Maxis Package Installer. I also have WooHoo, but whenever I click on "Install" nothing happens. I can't seem to find anyone to contact about these things that are still alive and around. Can any of you? Please? Woo Hoo does the same thing as mac unpack and more, but I wouldn't advise using woo hoo to install lots! I learned from experience, it can cause game to crash or it might not load at all sometimes. Sims are totally fine though, install as many sims as you like with woo hoo. Anyway, to answer your question on how to install using Woo Hoo I've written out instructions below (With pics) 1. If you have woo hoo installed, you should just be able to right-click on the sim package and select woo hoo from the list.
2. Then, this window will open, displaying all the information about the sim: 3. First, you need to install just the sim itself, so under the filter list click 'Sim' then 'Install selected 'Sim'
4. Next Click 'Genetics' and highlight everything on the list (command+a) and click 'Install selected genetics'
5. Your sim will be installed, but may not show up right up front in bodyshop, it might be a few sims back, but it'll be there.

Skeleton, yes I use a Mac, Its a shame this hair isn't showing up for me because it's awesome- all the other hair I've downloaded (so far) from raonjena are showing up fine though :/
But you're right about the texture thing- sometimes walls I download show up a grey in my game b/c they're not compatible. Oh well!

Thank you yes, I am having the exact same problem. I will try exporting and re-importing into bodyshop an see how that goes. Edit: It didn't work, the hair is now partially showing up all shattered looking: It's supposed to look like this :/ I'll contact the creator, because there may be other mac users that are having this problem.

Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Extracting Born-in-game sims for Mac?

Is it possible to do this on a mac? If I go to Documents -> EA Games -> The Sims 2 -> Neighbourhoods -> N001 -> Characters, and then choosing one of the characters, I am able to view a picture the sim using the Woo Hoo program browse function. But, is there anyway to get the sim into body shop? I have also downloaded DBPF reader and Mac Unpack, but they seem to do a bit less than woo hoo? Thanks in advance.

Thaks! 2 more q.
1. How do you 'unzip' a folder...extract it???
2. Jon's hair and clothes arent downloading. in the game, its still the old hair! ive tryed right-clickin, save target...and all that, but it still says i cant get it. UR! im stressed. help!
thks. ur the best. im not very smart on these things..lol. ur awesome!! BIBI 1. To unzip, you should just double-click. I think you have already unzipped a file because the Jon Walker sim is zipped. Otherwise, you can use a program like winzip but I don't think you need to download it. 2. Hmmm, I'm not sure why that would be happening, Clicking on the link or right clicking- > 'Save target as' should download it to your hard drive. After the .zip file is downloaded, you would unzip the file and move all of the files into your sims 2 downloads folder (including the Mesh - very important). Also, the Jon Walker sim was packed in Maxis hair and clothes so you will have to manually put the hair and clothes on one you have downloaded them. p.s I don't have a PC myself (I have a mac) so i'm just going from memory. If nothing is working, try checking this great downloading tutorial on MTS2,don't worry about the title of it to much ,lol, it just covers pretty much everything & helped me a lot when I had downloading issues.

ok, don't worry about using package installer to install this outfit. This is all you do: 1. Download the file by right-clicking on the link and going 'Save Target As' 2. Save the file somewhere on your computer (will be a zip file) 3. Unzip the file 4. Copy and paste the 2 files into your sims 2 'downloads' folder ,which is located here: My Documents\EA GameS\The Sims 2\Downloads\ I will send you a PM regarding the other questions you had.
