Figured out the problem myself.  Updated my drivers and everything is working again.

Intel Pentium 4. 3 ghz ,3 gigs ram, windows home service pack 3, Nvidia Gforce 8600gts

I don't know why this is happening but when I try to load the sims my screen goes black for a few seconds and then nothing.  I have deleted all my cache files and still nothing.  I have a digital download of apartment life could that be the problem?

I have been playing the sims since the Sims 1 and I've got to say I don't think I'll be purchasing the sims 3 any time soon (if at all.)  My biggest issues are the lack of control over my sims and my neighborhoods.  I can't stand the idea of rabbit holes and I have also heard that building lots is a bit of a nightmare in itself.  Don't even get me started on the ugliness of the sims themselves.  I have seen some okay men with the addition of hacks and mods but the women?  What is up with the women? I have yet to see one that doesn't resemble Jay Leno in drag.  I have no desire to play the game and even less to shell out the money to play it.  The negatives far outweigh the positives for me at this point.  Besides all that, I am way too much of a control freak to have only one family and then have them run off when I'm not looking and do whatever they want.  I want to play God , dammit. I don't want to babysit.  I don't think any amount of custom content is going to cure the gameplay for me, and that's the bottom line.

I am so glad I have read this forum on the sims 3.  I have no interest in buying thr game and now I feel vindicated.  Is it just me or do any of you feel alone in your opinions?  I feel outnumbered and I'm wondering if it's a marketing ploy.  If we feel like we're the minority then EA wins.  I find it hard to believe that anyone who has been playing the sims for years would give it all up for the sims 3.  I am too much of a control freak to be even remotely interested in the sims 3.  I was horrified to learn about the rabbit holes and only being able to control one family at a time.  That alone put me off from buying the game.  The saddest thing about this game is that my favorite sims 2 sites are slowly turning into sims 3 sites and I really don't understand how they could do that.  It's not just about the ugliness of the sims and their bad hair it's about the gameplay itself.  I just would like to know how many true sims fans have gone over to the dark side.
