Does the shop version solve both home and shop elevator problems or do you need both of them?

how does this work with no shopping hacks? if you force them to buy the pet do they buy it? does it go *poof* nowhere? or does your computer just have a meltdown?

I'm completely intrigued by this and amazed at the quality... and just a tiny bit confused... can't wait for more.
