Grrr - an invisible fire!  It's funny how Tiffany saw it and the zillion fire trucks but the family didn't.  Thanks Mihura, I'll herd 'em up and move 'em out and sprinkle too.

Hi

I'm not sure if I am posting in the correct place, so apologies if I'm not.  I have the Garden Club emergency on a lot and I've looked everywhere to find a solution to it.  I have Seasons and Freetime and prior to Freetime I never had this problem.

When I try to join the garden club, Tiffany says there is an emergency and that it isn't the best time to inspect.  I looked on the BBS and there have been a few people with the same problem.  I have part of the garden fenced off and when the Sims go into that part the environment bar goes into the red.  If I remove the fence, the fire truck turns up repeatedly, but the fireman doesn't do anything.

I'm assuming I have a fire somewhere in the fenced area, but I can't find it - I've moved everything off the garden and checked to make certain there isn't anything there that shouldn't be.  The solution I found on the BBS was bulldoze the lot - umm, nope I don't think so LOL

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Please make sure you have the formal dress meshes downloaded in your game.

6  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Renstalling Game Folders on: March 13, 2007, 08:38:11 am
I know I have read this somewhere but I can't find it anywhere. I've just uninstalled everything and reinstalled it due to severe problems with Seasons and I tried to play the game with none of my saved games first before putting stuff back on (it seemed to work OK). I then installed my download folder and neighbourhood folder (to see what would happen) and I got my custom neighbourhood's welcome screen actually working (which it never has). So I then decided I should put the rest of my saved folders in (bearing in mind I had 20 saved ones and only 16 (excluding Downloads) in the newly installed game. I basically copied the whole folder back in and started getting issues (and the neighbourhood start-up screen wasn't working again).

So, I have taken everything out again and run the game to put the folders back in. Can someone tell me which game folders to put it please? I know downloads and neighbourhood folders (obviously) but which others?

I forgot to say also, even though I disable the start-up custom content opening screen in the options, it still shows up everytime I start the game

Thanks

My guess is that by primary and secondary, you are seeing the current driver and the driver to "roll" back to if you have a problem. Have you got the latest driver update? Is your direct x up to date?

Edit: One thing to check, 1)right ckick your desktop 2)click properties 3) click settings 4) click advanced 5) click troubleshoot, make sure hardware acceleration is set to full.

Hi there

Yes to both and EA already had me check the acceleration (which was at full anyway).  I think I have done everything known to Man...

I've been having this problem since OFB came out, yet all the Stuff packs and Pets have installed fine.  It's driving me crazy
8  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / OFB installation problem/Radeon 9600 on: February 28, 2007, 09:53:25 am
I am having severe problems trying to install OFB. The installer is changing my video settings to 8 bit and back to 32 bit throughout the installation. When the installation is finished the video settings revert back to 32. This hasn't happened with any other EP. EA support are trying to help me but haven't succeeded as yet.

The only thing that doesn't look right on my PC is the fact that I have a primary and secondary driver for the video card in Device manager.

Does anyone have this problem, or know how to fix it?

Thanks

Hi again

I broached this subject with EA support and this is what they said:

We have not seen any specific issues with Asus motherboards. But I'm pretty sure it is some type of issue with OFB and your system. OFB did add a bunch of new items in the neighborhood section and raised the requirements for The Sims 2. Even though your system should be able to run it fine we have seen some strange issues that this expansion causes which the others don't.

Now isn't that really helpful?

have you done a manufacturer's test on the hard drive to see if it has errors?

I find extensive bug reports for that motherboard and games & over-clocking issues.  If you read between the lines on these forums, you will begine to see that the Asus A8V series has substancial design flaws that may be the source of your problems:

Hi Beos

Yes - I had the hard drive checked.  I'm wading through the forums now but it isn't looking good.  Two questions I would love someone to answer - why did EA Support not suggest the over-clocking problem, do you think; and I never had any problems at all up to OFB being installed but is there a remote possiblity that the installation problems could be a cause of the crashing?

Incidently, I have been playing today and the game isn't remembering my settings (new video driver, but at least the screen looks better)

Thanks

I would ask you to detail your system fully, because what you are telling me is only enough to make blind stabs in the dark.

I'll check the RAM in a sec.  I built the PC about a year ago and when I formatted the HDD last week, I also checked the fans and made sure everything was seated properly.

I have an Asus A8V Deluxe Mobo, AMD Athlon 64, a gig of RAM, Radeon 9600, Realtek AC97 and DirectX 9.0c.  Anything else you need to know?

The memory test was fine...

Well, you need to give way more info as to what is crashing and when.

OK - I didn't want to post a long diatribe as I wasn't sure it was the correct place to do it.  Anyway...

I have all EPs but my problems only started when I installed OFB.  I'm fairly convinced that the installation process has caused the problems.  It kept changing the video display settings while installing (but changed them back afterwards).  Since then my Sims are unable to go to any community lots (either by taxi or car) as it crashes (usually back to desktop but sometimes it will wipe out the PC).  It crashes for no apparent reason, as well.  All of a sudden the PC will rumble and off it goes. Pets seemed to help other problems I had but not the crashing thing.

I have done everything EA support said, but still have this problem.  I have been playing it without custom content or hacks, have all the latest drivers and my machine is very good spec.  I always play it with nothing else running, I clear out my cache and temporary folders and delete the groups.cache file before I start.  I'm lucky if I can play it for more than ten minutes without it crashing. I've even formatted the PC, but still it crashes.

I think that's about it...

I don't know if I am posting this in the correct place but I have dreadful crashing problems, which EA support can't help me with.  It's too long an issue to go into here, but if there are any techies out there that can help, I'll be forever grateful  Smiley

Thanks in anticipation

Um, that's all I've made for it... the rest are made by others, and are in their sections or the Guest Skintones section at my Adult area.

Doh!  I thought there had to be a reason LOL

Thanks (oh and thanks also for the great work you produce too, you've made me very happy)

I thought I had found and downloaded all the files, but I only seem to have the very pale skin.  What have I done wrong, please?
