1  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Help / A major issue with Sims 3... Invisible Child... etc. on: April 07, 2010, 03:58:05 pm

Sims 3 ONLY

Well, my Sim, Emma, had a great pregnancy and I got to choose the traits for the new baby and everything. However, when we got home I noticed that she was holding an invisible Sim in her arms. I saved, thinking it was just one those time where Sims went invisible for a couple of seconds, but it wasn't. I've loaded the game at least ten times by now and every time she's invisible. I've deleted all of the things that I think would cause problems - like the clothing meant for adults that show up in toddlers and make the toddlers look all deformed and whatnot. However, she's still invisible. I tried to move my "packages" folder out of my mods folder also. But when I loaded my game and family, the entire task bar was gone (i.e Sims needs - that whole area, build, buy, house rotation options, EVERYTHING). After that I thought I pressed a button on a keyboard that I didn't mean to press, but I pressed the one that was supposed to bring the task bar back and nothing happened. Recently, I've just put my packages folder back into my mods folder and I can see the task bar. However, the baby is STILL invisible. What should I do!?
2  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: How do you pick out items that cause your game to crash? on: December 12, 2009, 09:22:28 pm
You can try the half'n'half method. Part your Downloads folder in two, run the game with one half in. Does it crash? If not, then the bug probably is in the other half. If it crashes, then the bug is probably in the half you tested (but test both halves to be sure).
Move the "clean" files to a temporary folder.
Part the buggy half in two again, and test. Do this until you find the bugged files Smiley

One other thing:
How many downloads do you have, and do you by any chance run Windows Vista 32 bit?

I had a random crash problem once, which I thought was a bugged item, but in reality it was a memory overload, which caused the game to crash if it used more than 2GB memory (I too have 4 GB RAM on my computer, so I didn't understand why it acted like this). Vista 32 bit has that memory limit. 64 bit doesn't really have it - other than when playing Sims2, since the game files aren't updated to take this into consideration. I found a link to a small fix that solves this problem, if this really is your problem. Though I don't really recommend messing around in the game files if you know next to nothing about such things.

I did have over 10 GB of downloads, plus all EPs and SPs, which does use a lot of memory...

I believe I do run on 32 bit, but I'm not entirely sure. And I have around 17055 downloads right now. I moved all of the downloads from the download section in EA games and ran everything again, but I still got the crash. Since it might be what you're talking about, what should I do?

CORRECTION: I run on 64 bit.
3  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / How do you pick out items that cause your game to crash? on: December 10, 2009, 09:30:36 pm
This has happened a couple of times, but it hasn't really bothered me until now. I'm decorating a house and in the miscellaneous section I can only go five or so pages before the game crashes. I know it's an object in the miscellaneous category that's doing it, but I have no idea which item it is. So if there is a way, how can you pick out and delete the item that's causing my game to crash?

All help is appreciated!

Thanks for all of your input - especially rwills! I've tried a few things that you guys have told me to do, and it's running faster now! It loads in at least 45-60 mins so this is some time I can deal with... for now at least. And the lag has gotten better.

Thanks a lot! Smiley

FreeTime and Bon Voyage you say?

Could I possibly substitute an expansion for FreeTime? I just got it and I really like it so far, but I'm not crazy about Bon Voyage. I could uninstall Bon Voyage and possibly University, and the Teen Style SP. If I did that, do you think it would have an effect?

I have 5.50 GB of downloads.

And yes, I have cleaned my computer lately. Just yesterday.

So could I possibily uninstall one of the expansion packs? I could do without one or two... Would that lighten the load? I don't want my computer to die. I just got it last Christmas so I'm trying to hang onto this for as long as possible. I could delete OFB seeing as it doesn't do much for me and Teen Style stuff.

What are your thoughts?

Well, I just installed the OFB, FreeTime, and Seasons expansion packs. And when I go into the game, which takes two whole hours to load might I add, the lag is insane. Neighborhoods take at least 10-15 minutes to load the game itself takes 2 hours to load. And then a family takes at least 20 minutes to load. I don't mind waiting like, 45 minutes for the game itself to load, but two hours?

How can the lag in the game be taken care of? So it doesn't take me an entire two minutes to rotate to the bedroom and tell my Sim to go to sleep. Also, how can I speed up the entire game itself - as in the 2 hour loading for the entire game?

I have the Compressorizer thing and I organize most things in the Download folder into folders. Everything is compressed.

What else can I do?

All answers are appreciated.

When I click the Sims icon for it to start, it takes a few seconds and then this comes up:

I took out the downloads folder and tried to run it again, but the picture still appeared. You would think that there would be some words on it, telling you what is wrong, but there is nothing. It's so weird. Do you guys have any idea what is wrong this time?

Yes, dearies, I know.... another Sims 2 problem with me again. I'm starting to think Sims 2 doesn't like me, which is why I'm saving up for Sims 3.. anyway, on to the actual problem.

Lets say that my sims want to go clubbin' one night and they jump in the car and drive downtown. I get downtown, and then everything comes up. Then it starts to act screwy. As soon as my Sims arrive, and everything load the game either crashes or the sims are moving, but I cannot click on anything. Any idea what might be wrong? All answers are very, very much appreciated!

To help loading times you might try the Compressorizer found at moreawesomethanyou. I have everything in my downloads folder compressed with no problems, and I compress every download before I put it in my game. I haven't compressed anything other than my downloads folder although some people have, I don't know how safe any other compressing would be. Check out maty for details. I also got a new faster PC and that makes a whole lot of difference also, but with my old PC it did help.

Wow, you are right! My laptop is so much faster now that I've compressed the files. But for my game, the loading screen still takes about ten minutes or so to completely load all the way. Thank you though!

With my game, it lags due to a hella lot of CC. So, my guess is it's the CC with yours, too.

Yeah, I don't think that there's a way to get around that... oh well...
Have you ever gotten the problem with sims not being able to use the phone? It's making me very, very irritated. lol

does that mean it worked? Smiley

Yes! It took forever to load, but it worked. x]

Do you know how I could stop some of the lag? Or is it just the custom content?

have you tried deleting accessory.cache & groups.cache & try running it again?

You are an angel. o.o

Yep... another Sims 2 issue with me... Surprising? I think not, lol.

Well, this time around, my Sims 2 game won't load at all. I insert the disc, click on the Sims 2 shortcut thing, and then it comes and I press "play". After that, nothing happens. It acts like it's going to load, like the Sims 2 screen will just pop up at anytime, but it doesn't. Any ideas of what might be wrong? I already organized my download folder with Delphy's awesome wizard. Any ideas what might be wrong? All answers are appreciated!
