regardless of what the bean counters are telling ea headquarters, a very large number of the sims comunity will never pay for cutom content, and also a very large number of the sims comunity think that tsr is badly on the nose and will have no dealings with it whatever, no mater how much ea games and thomas try to dress it up for the comming release of the sims3.

I have learned of the controversies on TSR only accidentally, but like any good can of worms I learned that opening it brought forth more and more of the ugly little things. I followed a couple of links and read coconut's blog, which is very eye-opening! Like so many others I bought a 12-month-subscription at TSR, but already decided not to renew it.
That said I do think, even if it's a hobby, good creative work deserves a fair price and I have found a number of sites where very creative people make gorgeous stuff. If they ask money for some of their stuff, very little money at that, that's fine with me - a fair exchange.
To answer the original question - I'm one of those who will wait and see how the game comes on. I'm not in a hurry to buy it at all. I'm sure I'll give it at least a year as I'm still busy enough with the Sims 2
