Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Best Default Maps For Beach Houses?

There are three spots where you can use the three smallest beach lots in the Driftwood terrain (which always reminds me of a tourist town called Saugatuck in Michigan.) One is across from a little peninsula, and if you place a lighthouse on or near this it's sorta romantic as a viewable neighborhood object from this lot. The other two are near each other and out near the edge of the clickable range if you're using the standard neighborhood camera; it's kinda tricky to place any neighborhood objects including the new beach boulders near/on them. All three of them slope down immediately from the sidewalk and have quite a lot of elevation change between the road and the beach.

Gameplay wrinkle/exploitable glitch: Thanks to some odd circumstances in Bon Voyage and University, I have an adult Sim living in my college neighborhood without any mods. I had a young adult take a break from her college life to go on vacation. She invited along an adult guest that had become a very good friend as a teen; he's one of the "Mr. Big" special townies from Nightlife. I intended for them to become romantic so they could become engaged, and that happened as expected. During the vacation it occurred to me to click on the guest's icon in the control panel (it's sort of like having a pet) and noticed he wanted marriage. And surprisingly, propose marriage was available on the young adult's menu. So I decided to experiment and have her try it. He accepted and changed from being a guest to being a playable family member.
After the vacation ended she returned to her greek house in the college neighborhood and her husband was waiting by the mailbox, sort of like when you make a zombie at the secret society. I was worried he might mess up the play of my greek residents' college career, so I had him find his own place. He went to the college neighborhood's Sim bin and then into a rental house. If I play his lot long enough I suppose he'll finally go to his professional party guest job (he moved on Monday and doesn't work until Friday at 2 AM); I'll probably have him buy a car in case the car pool doesn't come. His life expectancy never progresses; it's locked at "29 days left to become an elder." I might have his wife drop out so I can try to have her invite him back to the home neighborhood sooner rather than later, or I may leave him in the college neighborhood indefinitely to see if I could exploit his situation some unique way. He was able to use the phone to join his wife's greek house affiliation; his wife and brother-in-law pranced over and accepted him immediately. He can't invite his wife to move in with him although I could try merging them from the neighborhood view.
I know there are a few mods (some not very far away!) that let adults live on campus, so this glitch might not be the way some players would prefer to achieve this. I thought the way the game tricks itself was interesting, though.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Why do the townies in the "Far East" NOT look Asian?

The Sim far east is part of the Sim universe that doesn't have any strong ethnicity nor any history of racial isolation. Everybody talks the same language and uses the same currency, so the vacation resort is an equal opportunity employer in regards to complexion etc. Sim society is still prejudiced about age, though, so some jobs are only held by teens while others are adults or elders, and only young adults can go to college.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Community Lot Cooks Not Appearing?
|

I've had this problem once in a while since Seasons also. While the chef is missing, sometimes the food just appears on the table without the waiter bringing it. On the plus side, the waiters hadn't been clearing dirty dishes for a long time and with Seasons they seem to be doing this again. I'm a little suspect about my safety procedures maybe contributing to this, as I often put a University fire sprinkler over the chef's stove on the custom restaurants I build; perhaps there's a conflict there with the restaurant range because the sprinkler is meant to be used over the dormitory range? I don't know whether community lot restaurants ever have fires anyway.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / There is a tree in the middle of my sim's kitchen

Some threads at the EA BBS suggest this is a problem with the Japanese Maples; it was the culprit on my lots that had this problem. The problem even occurs if you try to place some of the pre-made Nightlife houses (the snug little lots with the driveways) on a neighborhood area that has no decorations; you can see little trees being placed well outside the lots' boundaries. If your neighboring lots have maples try deleting those particular trees, maybe substitute another tree as a place-holder in case you want to remember where to replace the maple trees if/when a fix is discovered, or in case this work-around turns out not to work for you. I'm still experimenting with maples; I put a few on a hill I made in the center of a large community park and those haven't seemed to wander yet. Maybe the problem only occurs on flat lots?
