1  Simmers' Paradise / Sims / Seems like there are Sims for every famous person, so where is.... BROOOOCE??? on: July 31, 2009, 08:28:42 pm
Sure would love to find a Sim or twelve of my own personal deity.

I think most people know what he looks like (lol) but here are some favorite pictures of mine of Bruces I would love to have ingame. That's not to say I wouldn't love to have a current Bruce (but without that awful goatee) or a 'Born in the USA' model. Just... I'd love to have these guys...

early-mid 1970s look:

late 70s look:

and a profile. Without that JAW, it ain't Bruce! I know it's not the cleanest of shots, but hell we're not Mme Tussaud's here...

Well, like mom always says, it doesn't hurt to ask... thanks in advance and happy Simming!

I gotta get a PC...
2  Simmers' Paradise / Where Can I Find...? / Need a plain old button-down denim 'work shirt' (untucked!)(Adult Male) on: July 22, 2009, 03:39:04 pm
Sleeves down, sleeves rolled up, I'll take anything anyone's found. Similar to the Maxis 'country music singer' type of button down shirts, only plain faded blue denim and untucked. Made famous by Martha Stewart and something you'd find Harrison Ford in workin' on his fences.

Can't make my Beatles circa Abbey Road without it;)

Thanks!
3  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Is Seasons as difficult to get running as Pets is? on: July 05, 2009, 03:34:23 pm
I've spent the better part of a week trying to get Pets to run right. Have reinstalled everything at least half a dozen times, have Combo Patched, have gone through each and every one of my downloads, and time after time it's problem -> solved -> new problem.

It's not worth it to me just to have critters running around, so I'm going to reinstall everything to what I had before this evil that is 'Pets,' but I'm wondering if from now on it's going to be the same way if I move on to further expansion packs. I want to play, not fix. Just wish I could take advantage of more of the beautiful CC out there.
4  Simmers' Paradise / Where Can I Find...? / Unconventional pet skin colors? on: July 05, 2009, 10:17:06 am
Yes, I'd like a purple cat. Or a blue dog. Or a leopard-spotted... something. I don't know.... are there any particular sites that have more pets-related dl's than others? In my browsing I tend to ignore that which I don't yet have the EP for

Just got Pets to actually work without crashing and I'd rather play than go through all my S2 bookmarks today.

Thanks!
5  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / What brings you the most joy when playing? on: June 27, 2009, 08:53:06 pm
For me, hands down, it's gotta be after installing some new content and waiting for that one caption at the bottom of the game loading screen to change to the next one. I don't have all the EPs yet so for me it's waiting for 'Proscribing Plebian Palates' (sic) to change into 'Faux Finishing. When it does that, I can breathe again and know I can get down to actually PLAYING.

And if the sound cuts out and my little Mac beachball (our version of the hourglass) starts spinning, I let fly with a few bad words and start removing and rebooting, removing and rebooting...

Did a bit of that this evening and now everything appears to be copasetic, so I am celebrating by posting this. Smiley
6  Simmers' Paradise / Where Can I Find...? / Old People Alert! aka Some 70s stuff I'd love to find / 70s memory thread on: June 17, 2009, 01:16:49 pm
If you're my age you'll remember some of these... kids, see if your grandparents kept back copies of the (not very) legendary 'Apartment Life' magazine - awesome for 70s buy/build designs;) At some point I'm going to learn how to make these. On a mac.

1) Those mirrors that had the orange/brown toned sunsets silkscreened onto them. An off-shoot of these were mirrors with photos of classic bands silkscreened onto them in black (I fondly remember the one I had, with the Beatles from the Rubber Soul album cover. Ah....)

2) Every kid had these sheets, or really wanted them. Girls had the full-color rainbow one, boys had the one that was shades of brown. White sheets/comforters/curtains with a broad stripe down the middle or sides made up of varying color shades. The pillowcases had the same stripe, only curved from the middle bottom to one edge, so when you put two together you had a rainbow, in color or in brown, that lined up with the stripes on the sheets/comforter. Remember these???

3) Hip-length bulky knit 'sweater jackets' that had a matching knitted belt to tie them, usually in tweedy natural multicolored yarns.

4) That little tv that looked like an astronaut's helmet.

5) Brightly colored Panasonic electronics - there was a radio shaped like a donut only fatter in one place. It twisted open and the dial was on the inside, speaker on the other. Had one in yellow. They also made a tape recorder that was sort of pocketbook shaped, and (I know, cuz I had one!) and EIGHT-TRACK player!

6) Old-school Marimeko - the sheet sets with the primary colored toy boats, or cars, with of course all manner of linens to match.

7) Basket-weave contac paper - came in browns, metallics, and an incredibly garish red, white and blue version.

Cool Soft velour turtlenecks, in jewel tones. Girls wore these with a necklace hanging over the neck just at the front. It looked really stupid, but we did it.

9) Wine sacks. Made of some sort of (real? Artificial?) skin, with a plastic spout, and on a little rope strap. I'm guessing Hyde on That 70s Show probably carried one of these around.

10) Smurf figurines (desktop clutter.)

11) Multicolored shag carpeting

12) Avocado wall phone (alt. Goldenrod wall phone.)

13) "Infinity" mirrors - had tiny lights spaced behind the glass that would reflect back... and forward... and back.

14) Fiber-Optic multicolored light 'things' - fibers that came out of a base on a slow turntable, and would change color as they moved

15) AMC Gremlin. AMC Pacer. The goofiest cars of the 70s.

(Okay, yeah, my favorite shop in the mall was the one with the room at the back with the beaded curtain and the mysterious little items in the display case that I SWEAR I still have no idea about. Why would someone need an alligator clip with a long bright blue feather on it? Who bought all those tiny little different colored boxes and what did they use them for?Huh?   Wink

One day I'm going to surprise my mom with a complete recreation of my childhood home.... one day....

70s memories? 70's finds?
7  Simmers' Paradise / Where Can I Find...? / WCIF.... Killersims Sims 2 downloads? on: June 16, 2009, 09:25:26 pm
Okay, where's the hidden door to Killersim's Sims 2 stuff? Evidently my brain just doesn't work the same way theirs does. A favorite site back when I was playing S1, it SEEMS like there's S2 stuff there somewhere but...

More frustrating than that time I tried to play Myst. Thanks in advance for clueing me in on the combination to the vault...
8  Simmers' Paradise / Where Can I Find...? / Broken (un-grunge) glass windows? on: June 11, 2009, 10:14:42 pm
Okay, so googling 'sims 2 broken windows' brings up, uh... lots of other stuff, mainly having to do with problems with one's computer, lol. (SO glad I have a Mac...)

A few years ago a car drove into the giant front window of our store (whoops!) I'd like to find a shiny shop window that has shards of glass around the edges of its frame and perhaps some others that have hairline fractures here and there. I've found just one broken window but it's in the 'grunge' category - not looking for grungy, just looking for broken.

Thanks yet again!
9  Simmers' Paradise / Where Can I Find...? / Looking for tree bark wallpaper on: June 02, 2009, 09:16:21 pm
Anything tree, anything free  cool

Thanks.
10  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Weird - no sound from (Maxis) boombox, slimline phone not 'working'... on: May 28, 2009, 12:10:46 am
I know, I know... pull any new downloads & restart game until the culprit is found, but I'm wondering if anyone's experienced both of these things at one time (maybe someone knows a particular file that causes this to happen...)

Yesterday I noticed that while the boombox is playing ('sound lines' coming out of it,) there is no music. Today, I find the slimline phone is not working correctly - my sims dial one number and then stand for a moment then walk away. The who-to-call screen doesn't come up, just one beep and... done. I have a retro phone I grabbed from MTS that DOES work correctly, luckily (and yeah, I've had this phone before the problem started today.)

Have checked my prefs and all the audio ones are on, all the other sounds are present, just not the boombox music.

TV is working fine.

It's late now but tomorrow I will see if stereo and speakers are working or if it's just isolated to the boombox.

Ahhhh, isolating incompatible downloads... I remember those fun times from back in my Sims 1 days. Fun times indeed.  Embarrassed
11  Simmers' Paradise / Clothing & Body Mesh's / I can't find a photo, but if you've seen 'Frantic' w/Harrison Ford.... on: May 21, 2009, 10:35:43 pm
I really would love to find (or if anyone can make one, receive) a red dress like Michelle wears to the Blue Parrot nightclub. It's a simple but stylish long-sleeved fire-engine red dress, falling mid-thigh (straight down, no 'skirt',) with, if I remember right, a simple 'boatneck' neckline in the front but lacing up (red) in the back from a point 3/4 up from the waist. If only I could wear a dress like this in real life....

I think she wears red high-heeled simple pumps with it. Could be black; can't recall but either would work, I think.

Thanks in advance!
12  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / D'oh! Changed my mouse settings, now I can't change angle w/wheel button! on: May 12, 2009, 09:36:48 pm
I'm sure this has happened to someone else out there...

I have a logitech 2-button optical mouse, with a middle scroll wheel. I installed the Lotitech control center (sic) and in preferences changed a few things around, of COURSE not making notes on how it was setup at the time. Now when I click the middle button (scroll wheel button), it no longer works to change the viewing angle of the game.

I know I can press the Tab key and do it that way, but as I'm not used to doing that I don't have as much control as I did doing it 'the old way.' Does anyone out there have the same sort of mouse and can tell me which of the many settings to set the scroll wheel button to to get it back to where it was?

Tried ditching the Logitech preference panel to see if it would revert on its own - no dice.

Not a huge deal, but it's costing me personal comfort points...

Thanks!
13  Welcome to insimenator.org / The Welcome Wagon / Hello! on: May 12, 2009, 07:49:36 pm
Greetings from a fairly new player who was quite addicted to S1 and kept saying 'ONE DAY I'll have a new, fast computer and can check out Sims 2.... ONE day.....'

Ordered my new Mac and a fresh copy of S2 the same day, just about a month ago. No EPs yet but am awaiting the arrival of Nightlife and Open for Business any day now (grabbing stuff off of Half.com and hoping that while there is a recommended order of EPs to add, that it won't present a huge problem (famous last words....))

Really digging the game and miss it when I have to do stupid boring things like go to work, houseclean, bathe, skill build....none of which I'm doing NOW so I think I'm going to head back in. I have a family of 3 Sim roomates, none of whom have turned out the way I'd hoped but I'm trying to get them to all straighten themselves out. Almost as difficult for me as it's been for my mother... oy.

If anyone spots a really nice-looking Nathan Fillion sim anywhere, I'd consider it a major kindness if you'd care to drop me a link...

Happy Simming, all!
