1  Simmers' Paradise / Sims 2 Apartment Life Chat / Re: Religious faith versus Non-conformist faith and the Sims 2 on: December 28, 2008, 12:49:53 pm
Now, it goes back a long time, starting with the Burning Times. The Burning Times happened during a part of the Middle Ages and Rennaisance in Europe and the Americas.

Just a minor point for clarification. Witches were not burnt at the stake in the Americas (particularly Salem Village in the Massachusetts colony). The method of execution employed was hanging. Although one unfortunate was accidentally "pressed" to death in an effort to extract a confession. The accused was placed under a board and stones were piled upon it until a confession was extracted. Except this poor fellow refused to confess and got squished. (ewwww . . .)
2  A Safe Haven / General Discussion / Re: Songs that drive you crazy.. on: December 27, 2008, 10:37:59 am
Keep Your Hands to Yourself by the Georgia Satellites . . . a nice little ditty making fun of girls who say "no", and Jessica by the Allman Brothers . . . there's a limit to how many times one should be allowed to repeat a single guitar riff in the same song.

Both songs are moldy oldies . . . I stopped listening to the radio years ago.

3  Welcome to insimenator.org / Rules, News & Announcements / Re: We can haz new site NAO? on: December 07, 2008, 02:56:02 pm
(what does that mean: "...haz the site NAO"Huh?)

It's called "lol speak" and it references this web site:
http://icanhascheezburger.com/

I suppose this sort of thing does leave our ESL brethren and sisters a bit perplexed, when we begin playing games with language that disregard basic rules of grammer and syntax.

LOL is an internet chat abbreviation for Laugh Out Loud. The pictures on this site, most of them felines (nicknamed lolcats), have been given captions that use "creative" grammer and spelling. (The kind of grammer and spelling that would give your Language Arts teacher a headache.)

It's all in good fun . . . but I would imagine that it doesn't translate well.  Grin

All hail, The Pirate King!

If a lowly peasant may be so bold as to adress his Awsomeness, thank you, El Presidente, you are a curmudgeon after my own heart.

This is absolutely beautiful, Bloom. My grandfather was a truck driver, and I have a soft spot in my heart for the big rigs. Thank you for sharing your immense talents with us!
6  Resident Creators / EP8 Mods / Toddler Spring Rider Skill Gain Enabled on: September 12, 2008, 07:30:31 pm
What a marvelous surprise after a hellacious week at work! The Legendary Squinge has actually made a mod for lil' ol' me! I has a happeee! Cheesy

Thank you, thank you, thank you Hackmastah! :worship: You rock!

7  Resident Creators / Mod Requests / Toddler Body Skill From Spring Rider on: September 07, 2008, 03:16:28 am
First of all, let me say that it's soooo nice to have Squinge's Mods back at Insim! I really missed you, dude!

Secondly, I would like to respectfully suggest a mod that would allow toddlers to gain body skill (and fitness enthusiasm, if possible) from riding the Bouncy Bork Spring Rider that came with the other playground equipment in Apartment Life. Have you seen one of the little beggers ridding the bouncing llama? Those little rugrats are working hard!

After all, the children are gaining fitness from the monkey bars, slide, and climbing tower . . . it's only fair that there should be something in it for toddlers too!
8  Simmers' Paradise / Sims 2 Apartment Life Chat / Apartment Life = Satantist? on: September 01, 2008, 04:17:17 am
Well, on the flip side of that coin, there is a post at More Awesome Than You in which AL witches are denounced as offensive to Wiccans:

http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,12710.0.html

It doesn't matter how innocent and innocuous something is . . . somebody, somewhere will find a reason to get their panties in a bunch over it.

I am a fundamentalist Christian, and I laughed at the other fundamentalists who denounced Harry Potter. That was a book and this is a game. It is whatever one desires to make of it whether it's Dungeous and Dragons or Puff the Magic Dragon. Hmm . . . isn't the motto of the Order of the Garter something along those lines? "Evil be him who evil thinks of it."

As for Christians who don't like witches and other supernatural characters in games, books, and movies . . . Oh! Lighten up, will ya?!

I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one left that remembers those days

if you look closely, you'll notice the hose that dinged when you drove over it, to let the attendant know someone was there

"service with a smile" not only that, they gave you S&H Greenstamps, and probably a drinking glass

remember "gas wars"?, when 2 competing stations would try to undercut each other, sometimes it would go as low as 22-24 cents a gallon trying to get you to buy their gas, now they act like they're doing you a favor selling you gas for $4 a gallon

We're dating ourselves, but yes I remember those gas wars. I also remember riding around town as a child with my mother in her 1965 Buick Wildcat Convertible. To use the vernacular, that thing would run like a scalded ape! The state trooper clocked her at 135mph on the freeway one night. (I wasn't in the car at the time!) She was drag-racing a Riveria. I inherited her lead foot, it seems. What I wouldn't give for a V8 and a stretch of open road! (And a Swiss bank account to pay for the gasoline!)

I remember getting drinking glasses for filling up. I also remember getting glassware in boxes of oatmeal and towels in boxes of detergent.

I've licked a few pages of Greenstamps in my day, too as well as the pink-colored Scotty Stamps. Thanks for inspiring a side trip down Nostalgia Lane.:old:

Oh, my goodness, gracious, me! That surely brings back the memories. Ah, for the good old days when a courteous young man in a freshly pressed uniform would greet you as soon as you pulled up to the pump. While he filled your tank, he'd wash your windshield, check your oil, the air pressure in your tires and the water in your radiator. (Yes, I remember black and white television and eight-track tapes, too.)

This guy looks so good that it's almost spooky! What is it about dangerous-looking men that otherwise intelligent women find so attractive . . . ?

I kid you not this looks almost exactly like my dad 10 yrs ago. All he needs is brown hair and sky blue eyes. Fantastic job!

Actually, I was thinking how reminiscent he was of my late and much-beloved uncle . . . typical guy from the late 1950's in a sooped-up 1941 Ford Hot Rod with Fats Domino blasting away on the car radio.

Capricorne, you are amazing! Your creations have such life and personality. It's a shame that your sims don't come with written histories because I'd love to know some of their life stories. Just looking at their faces makes me want to know their thoughts and experiences. :notworth:

What a wonderfully realistic-looking Sim! You are an exceedingly gifted artist. Whereas most of my creations come out looking like department-store mannequins with all the humanity of molded plastic, your sim looks like someone I might actually meet. (He definitely looks like someone I'd enjoy meeting . . . )

Bravo and well done!

Wow! I would buy the crackers if he would eat them in my bed . . .
