3  The Sims 4 / The Sims 4 Pictures / Beautiful stuff found in Sims 4: Might include spoilers. on: October 07, 2014, 08:58:43 pm
I really enjoy having my sims wander around the various hoods, treasure hunting in each world.  One of the things I love about Sims 4 is the texturing of the environments.  I know people hate how often their sims have to fix toilets but even that can be a benefit. My primary got to level 10 Handiness just fixing stuff, and now he makes money for doing it.  All his plumbing, electronics, and appliances are fully upgraded, and he sells the parts he scavenges.

Anyway, here are two photos featuring the gorgeous rendering of trees, water, etc., and a distant city view that hints at cool stuff coming in EPs.  Reply to this post with your own favorite environments, and sim actions.  Please remember to follow the image posting guidelines at the top of the forum.

A view of the river delta world at night: I think the rendering of the environment is wonderfully done. Note the city in the background. That will likely be the destination for the S4 version of Nightlife (S2). There are loading docks, and I think mining equipment as well.  Someone, snap a shot of those, and share.  Pretty please?

A morning of fishing for a townie I play.  I love the shadowing, and high-detail rendering of trees, and ground. I really love the rendering of the water environs in the game with fish jumping, and butterflies dancing around.

5  The Sims 4 / Sims 4 Buzz / Re: Things I HATE about sims 4 on: September 21, 2014, 10:52:17 pm

Hi, Niacin!

Wow, that is some excellent information.  And it concerns me.  It appears that I am not alone in considering Sims 2 the best overall EA Sims game.  One thing I always miss from the old, wonderful Sims 1 is that amazing "Passionate Kiss".  I am rather disappointed in the lack of good kisses in Sims 4. "Kiss" is actually good, but Passionate Kiss is not romantic at all.  It's a comic move.  LAME!  And Make Out is just multi-kisses not the cool, and oh so photo-friendly, mildly erotic Make Out in Sims 2.  Wrong website to post photos of scenes I could only post on InsimAdult as mhanse from that rather cutie-hottie animation.

If anyone has seen some awesome kiss in Sims 4, please let me know.  I will work hard to unlock that move--knowing the game after playing almost continuously for a month I see that a lot of stuff can be done as I level up in skills.  Unlocking achievements is actually a fun part of the game.

As far as EA's concern about Sims 4 success:  EA should be looking at the CC showing up as modders start breaking the code.  EA should stop hiding cheats, and open up those codes.  What?  EA didn't like that we could have MP3s on our computers because of copyright infringement?  I am trying to figure out how to get Sims 2 music to play in Sims 4, but those files are not MP3s, and the Music folder is for MP3s.  That's part of what I hate about Sims 4, and EA's policies in general.  The Sims is a phenomena that has a fan base starving to play with the content, and personalize.  My Game My Way: that should be the battle cry of every simmer.  And EA needs to get a clue or there will be no Sims 5.  And that would be very, very sad.  Square Enix is up to what--Final Fantasy 15?  EA's Sims franchise should easily reach that number of releases.  Yes, FF is a standalone play-through game rather than open-world like The Sims, but let the great modders create without having to first hack open the code and create workarounds so we can have content that EA is afraid to openly endorse.  Like Adult themed gaming.  I find it pathetic that X-box has the extremely violent GTA, and Call of Duty, but EA is afraid to let us see blood, and OMG! other 18+ content.  Modders deserve a ton of credit for Sims 2's success.  I wonder if Sims 3 was less popular than Sims 2?  If so, why continue the downward trend?  Find out what players want and give it to us.  Stop trying to straddle some imposed morality bridge.

Added 9/21:

I read a hundred or so posts on the last link above and found out that indeed Sims 2 was the smash success of the franchise.  I did not buy Sims 3: neither did 10 million other Sims 2 fans.  Sims 2 basegame alone sold 20 million copies.  Sims 3 sold 10 million copies.  One poster stated the given that trend, EA is likely projecting about 7.5 million copies of the Sims 4 basegame to be purchased during the four-six year run.  I noted that early posts were almost all negative: Like players spent a day or two in the game expecting to start seamlessly from their Sims 3 experience.  I know from having played all three (although I did not purchase Sims 3, I played on a friend's computer occasionally.  I also noticed that the dough faces of the S3 basegame got fixed in EPs.  Colors and textures got richer.  The game was 32 bit, and made for the emerging laptop market.  Now we all have laptops with Windows 8 + and Sims 4  looks dumbed down.  Well, Sims 3 looked dumbed down to me, and 10 million other avid players who decided to simply continue their S2 experience.  I have purchased Sims 4 because I really missed playing the Sims.  What is awesome is I now have S2 Ultimate Edition, and Sims 4 on one machine.  I have a concern, because S2PE auto-loaded onto my S4 game, and all my packages in my Mods folder have the S2PE Logo even though I just downloaded S4PE.  I'm wondering if I will have some serious compatibility conflicts in the near future because of this...

6  The Sims 4 / Sims 4 Buzz / Re: Things I HATE about sims 4 on: September 08, 2014, 07:36:15 am
Hi Veronica:

I daresay I agree with you about house size and how many people can be invited to parties.  I hope the game developers plan to add cars (perhaps not, what with the "Travel" options...), pools and other missing things like toddlers.  However, I am not considering it a waste yet as Origin/EA may well have a lot of those items in development for expansion packs.

I am hoping code modders might be able to create a mod to make a sim's height variable.  It is possible that the cheat codes access command will become available. That way we can use those to modify height (stretch skeleton) like in Sims 2.  Toddlers might be added with S4's version of Nightlife, Seasons, etc.  I'm not bagging the game yet, but I still have my Sims 2 game on my computer.  I don't plan to ever eliminate it.  I spent too many years collecting CC to make it MY game MY way.

I think EA has been forgetting that tendency among us players; we like to manipulate our sims and environments, yes?

I skipped Sims 3 because I did not like the art.  Sims 4 seems better, but Sims 2 in my opinion still shows the most artistry concerning rendering of faces and environments. I also think Sims 2 had much better "worlds" to play in at the outset.  My gripe is I dislike the limiters they put into Sims 4 CAS for facial features.  I want to create at least one race of "weird" sims in my game.

Have you tried using "testingcheats on" yet?  It allows players to actually modify a sim in CAS as well as setting a sim's age, making happy, and stopping motive decay.  When toddler shows up, I might make my current family younger, and make one child a toddler.  I do wish we had all those boolProps like we had in Sims 2...

Anyway, happy simming!
7  The Sims 4 / Sims 4 Buzz / Re: be on watch there will be on origin the sims4 create a sims demo free on: August 31, 2014, 02:44:59 am
I have played with the Create a Sim demo, and I am not having and easy time of it.  I have a touch screen, and I have found controlling the shaping tools very, very hard.  I found a lot of great Sims to add from the contest page Origin has run.  I'm not having the same luck...
8  The Sims 4 / Sims 4 Buzz / Re: What are you most looking forward to in the new game? on: August 31, 2014, 02:40:16 am
Is it right that there's not going to be CAST in TS4? We'll be going back to loads of copies of the same objects with different colours in our files. I just hope there'll still be some of the lovely talented folk around to make CC.
I'm looking forward to the new CAS though, I might actually be able to make pretty sims this time around

Unfortunately, from what I have seen in CAS demos, making pretty sims will be freaking hard.  There are a lot of limiters (seen as red if you stretch too far) and there are not as many subtle shaping tools, such as for eyes, and mouths.  I have a favorite sim from my Sims 2 game I want to re-create for Sims 4.  So far, he just isn't the same sexy hunk I have known and loved from my Sims 2 gaming.  I'm hoping I can find the right bases that will recreate his unique features.  There is at least one Sims 2 townie I want to create for my Sims 4 game as well.
9  The Sims 4 / Sims 4 Buzz / Re: What are some things from previous games that you DON'T want in Sims 4? on: August 31, 2014, 02:28:20 am
I see that you and I totally agree that Sims 3 was a waste of 8 years of EA production time.  I am really hoping that Sims 4 has the same vibe as Sims 2.  I want the art to be as textural, and rich without resorting to HD corneal blowout brightness.  The real world is atmospheric.  Sims 2 was atmospheric.  Sims 3 was generally flat planes of color to show depth.  I never played a single Sims 3 game either.  The sims themselves were just ugly.

I have noticed in Sims 4 "Create-a-Sim" demos that the customization packages are not all that easy to navigate.  The click on a feature and drag elements are not as thorough as I would like.  I don't like the game telling me with a red color flash that I made a sims eyes too large or his jaw too broad.  The only person who should decide on the limits in Create a Sim is the player creating his or her simmies.
10  The Sims 4 / Sims 4 Buzz / Re: No Toddlers and No Pools in TS4 Base Game on: August 24, 2014, 04:51:40 pm
I agree:  Teens need to be smaller.  This looks like it will make determining who my simmies choose with whom to "chat" or "flirt" more tricky.  It would be pretty lame for my teen sim to start coming on to some adult; it would not be because I wanted them to do so.
11  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Walls, Floors & Murals / Re: Navy Bathroom Wall and Floor Set on: August 07, 2014, 01:38:41 pm
Really pretty Navy walls and floors set.  I have noticed that Sims 2 has continued to be popular through the entire Sims 3 run.  I didn't like the art in Sims 3, especially Create A Sim dough faces.  The colors were bright but flat.  I always felt Sims 2 actually had superior art even without the Hi-res.  I am a member of Deviant Art as well, so I am adding you to my watches. I look forward to seeing your work, and faving a couple pieces.  YAY

I totally agree with you, Foxbaby. I really want the game to be mod friendly, and I am so glad we are finally getting rid of those ridiculous dough-faced sims we got stuck with in Sims 3.  I think the art in general in Sims 2 was actually superior, even though it was lower tech, and not high res.  The game is about manipulating your worlds, and getting creative with working out the issues of keeping our simmies happy, or miserable as their story unfolds.  Flat planes of color, even if it was brighter was such a disappointment in 3.  I didn't buy the game.  I stayed with Sims 2.  I am really placing a lot of trust in the hype by pre-ordering Sims 4.

It is nice to meet you!
13  The Sims 4 / Sims 4 Buzz / Re: No Toddlers and No Pools in TS4 Base Game on: August 07, 2014, 01:09:02 pm
If this is still the plan of the developers to not have toddlers or pools for the break out of the game, I think it is OK--for the first few months.  I have a feeling the game is going to have a ton of new tricks for game play.  I pre-ordered, so will be chasing CC here as soon as it arrives.  First on my agenda:  a sim modder like the Insimenator, etc. natural skins and nude patches.  I have always considered my simmies as my children, and I must admit: the game has always fed my "god complex"  LOL!

I dearly hope the game is mod friendly.  I love creating lots, and re-colors to share.  Happy Simming, folks! Hug2
14  A Safe Haven / General Discussion / Re: Why We Should Donate to Insimenator: An Essay on: February 07, 2010, 03:33:43 am
With a few exceptions for large sites like Insim and MTS, fansites created by people wanting to host their own creations shouldn't have a requirement for on going donations in order to keep the site going.  I just renewed my subscription to my host for less than $9.00 a month.  And if that's too much for a creator to come up with, there are free hosts out there.  Or blogs with links to free file sharing sites.  Sites have been closing because the owners have lost interest in the game or because they've felt with the release of TS3, there would be no demand for TS2 items.  These small time sites that claim they can't afford the cost of running the site anymore are really saying their source of income has dried up and they aren't making money from the site any more.
The large sites, like Insim and MTS, are different though.  We the users do eat up bandwidth and stress the servers very quickly each month, requiring "more power", and thus, more money, to remain available.

It is true that most sole proprietors' sites with limited content, and fanbases, shouldn't need assistance with host-server or bandwidth costs.  If you have your own website, and don't need outside contributions, that is awesome!  And you hit the nail on the head with your comment about the expenses required for huge sites, with huge server/bandwidth requirements.
I sincerely want to help InSim make more than the $35 received in January.  I couldn't afford the $1260 annual fees needed to keep this site running.  However, I'll happily spend $100 a year here, where CC from the community as well as creators, is the focus.  And, Sims3 sites are going to become more prevalent as that fanbase starts looking for cool stuff to liven up the game.  I would not be surprised to learn that you are already creating Sims3 content.
I do feel a need to reply to one of your comments.  PC-Sims did not close because the owners became "bored", had no interest in creating for TS3, or their source of personal income "dred up."  They closed because they believed in offering free quality content, became huge, and without member support went broke.  Period.  I don't want to see that happen to InSim, MTS, Sapphire Sims, SAU, GSC, SimsCarSource, etc. etc. etc.  I don't want to see that happen to your site.
Thank you, ancienthighway, for your reply.  Your insight as a creator/fansite owner brings a unique perspective to this discussion. I'd love to check out your creations.  You might just get a new member. Happy Simming!
