Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / I need to know if this will work (problem inside)
|

First of all, I am a complete moron, who installed an expansion pack without backing up her saved-game files. It overwrote my files, so now I cannot uninstall the expansion without taking the saved game files with me.
This is depressing. It's been three months, and I want to play my damn game.
So, I had an idea.
What would happen if I took the saved game files, backed up everything onto a disc, uninstalled the expansion so I could play, then later when I could get the expansion to work, dump the files back into the game? Is this impossible, or could it work?

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Overrides Semi-Global=Game crash?
|
on: May 10, 2008, 10:05:57 pm

Okay, I finally bought Nightlife (used, in good condition), and decided to install it in my game. Naturally, being the ever-so intelligent person I am, I didn't back up any of my save files, thinking, "this is going to work. We've never had any problems with the base game, so Nightlife should install pefectly and work like a charm!"
If I ever think anything like that about the Sims ever again, I am going to shoot myself.
First of all, when I love up the game, it pulls up a list of all the custom content it doesn't like, saying that it "may cause issues within the game." List of things include Exnem's Tonberry doll, some custom foods, a lot of stuff from 4ESF, some stuff from Maxis themselves, and Numenor's toybox mod, and it says that they "override semi-global." This normally wouldn't bother me much, but here's where the massive amount of suck comes in.
It fubared a custom house I downloaded and had in my neighborhood after I clicked on the lot, making so whenever I looked at in from the neighborhood screen, there was blue stuff where the glass should be, and it froze. I demolished the house so I could enter that neighborhood, and it didn't seem to affect the Maxis house I went into, though.
When I go into Downtown, there are a bunch of visual artifacts (I think my term might be right), and if I don't move the cursor, it does fine. When I do move it, it lags to hell, then pastel green dots appear all over the grass, and it crashes.
This is most unnerving, you see, especially because I shot myself in the foot when it comes to my saved games. Does anyone, and I mean ANYONE know what might be going on? I have massive amounts of custom content (I stopped counting at 4 GIG), so I know that could also be a factor.
...please help me. I feel like a dumbass, if you'll excuse my language (it sums up how I feel). I would love you guys forever if you could offer me some advice, or at least condolences if I have to uninstall the game. In the mean time, I am going to beat up CPUs in Brawl to release my frustration.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Expansion pack advice
|

First off, I hope this is the right place to post this.
Now, for the actual topic.
I own no Sims 2 expansions. I have the base game, four gigs of CC (which I plan to organize and clean out), and that's it. Me, never being content with what I own, want a couple expansions to enhance my game, like Seasons and Nightlife.
My questions are: Is Bon Voyage worth it; is Pets any good; is University totally useless; and do I need to install them in a certain order to make them work? I have a limited budget, but I know I can borrow some from my friends to install (if you can still install expansions like I think you can).
The list of mods I have includes:
Squinge's wear anything pregnancy hack The wedding-dress selector The last-name chooser (for married sims)
Basically, I don't want to screw up my game completely. Help, please?

Sims 2 Community Downloads / Sim Hunks / Xander - My roleplay bishie!
|
on: October 23, 2006, 10:08:53 am

First, before we get to the info, a little Japanese lesson: Bishie is the fangirl shorted version of the Japanese word "bishounen", which roughly means, "pretty boy". Otherwise, a bit of an effeminate guy, usually used in yaoi manga. Now, for the download! This is Xander, a character that I roleplay with on a Fire Emblem board. He's one of my favorite characters, personality and appearence-wise, so I decided to create him on The Sims 2, and uploaded him to first MTS2, then here. Bio: A roguish character with a strange past (involving betrayal, treason, murder, and the loss of his wife). Xander's pastimes include reading, being grumpy, and flirting with anything female. I play with several versions of him, including: One with his wife and daughter, one where he is the womanizing flirt of the neighborhood, and the other where he is paired with another of my bishounen. NOTE: He has custom eyebrows, but try I as might, I CANNOT FIND THE FILE FOR THEM ONLINE. I have no idea where I acquired them, but there are not included in the file. You are welcome to use any sort of eyebrows on him as you see fit, as long as they match his hair color. If Xander is well received, I'll upload some of my other bishounen characters to the site. CUSTOM CONTENT: Hair: http://sims2sisters.sme.sk/index.php?sel=download&Cat1=Hair&Cat2=&Cat3=&Gender=&page=1Eyes (Expectation Blue): http://www.sussissogoodsims2.com/Eyes.htmlScar (Old Scar light): http://www.sussissogoodsims2.com/Fxmakeup.htmlSkin (Morning Light): http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=181061Credit for custom content goes to Sim2Sisters, Sussissogoodsims2, and Enayla.
