76  Resident Creators / EP8 Mods / No Autonomous Hammocks - AL on: October 07, 2008, 11:53:39 pm
There are two new hammocks mods: NoAutonomousHammocks and NoAutonomousHammocks-AL-AltVersion.

The main mod will let Sims read autonomously on the hammocks once they're directed to relax on the hammock. This mod curbs the auto behavior of Sims interacting with both cheap and expensive hammocks but they can be directed to relax or play on the hammocks.

The alternate version will not let Sims read autonomously on the hammocks once they're directed to relax on the hammocks. This mod curbs the auto behavior of Sims interacting with the hammocks completely but they still can be directed to relax, daydream, nap or read a book.

This alternate version WILL conflict with Squinge's old No Autonomous Reading mod and do affect both beds and hammocks. So this feature is a bonus.

Apartment Life compatible.

77  Resident Creators / EP8 Mods / No Autonomous Dancing And/Or Smustling on: October 07, 2008, 09:07:15 pm
Each mod curbs the autonomous behavior of dancing and/or smustling, but they still allow players to direct their Sims to dance or smustle.

Download only one of these mods.

Apartment Life and FreeTime compatible.

**May conflict with other dance/smustle/breakdance mods**

78  Resident Creators / EP7 Mods / Study Skills Faster From Books - FT/AL/MG + New Alternate Version: 12-5-08 on: October 01, 2008, 12:52:27 pm
This mod will boost the speed of skill studying with normal, non-traditional and special skills on the regular bookcases and the career reward bookcase (with the Golden Book attached to the top).

Study Normal Skills' speed has been doubled. The Sims will spend around an hour or two gaining the first 4 skill points individually. At around the 4th skillpoint, it takes slightly longer and then thereon, with each skillpoint gained, the Sim will spend a bit more time, BUT they won't take forever to gain all 10 skillpoints in a given normal skill such as Cooking, Cleaning and Mechanical.

Also, the above applies to the non-traditional skills normally not found on the regular bookcases but on a single book left out on the floor or table surface and on the career reward bookcase like Body, Creativity, Logic and Charisma to name a few.

Study Special Skills' speed has been boosted significantly to give the Sim roughly 1 to 2 hours studying a special skill like Parenting, Lifelong Happiness and so on.

Alternative mod: The Sims will study skill points at the normal rate (Maxis) from Cooking, Cleaning, Mechanical and from other skills - Charisma, Logic and so forth. BUT the mod boosts the speed at which the Sim will study special skills such as Parenting, Counseling, Fire Safety and so on (roughly 2 Sim hours).

NOTE:

This will or will not conflict with other book and study-related mods and maybe Monique's computers (both FT and AL), BUT I doubt they will. If they do, please let us know.

**Not backwards compatible with older EPs. Make requests for previous EPs before FreeTime.**

FreeTime is required. Apartment Life and Mansion&Garden compatible.

**UPDATED INFO**

Both mods are backward compatible all the way to the base game to study skills faster from any bookcase, BUT in order to study and gain special skills such as Parenting, Physiology, Anger Management and like, you do need FreeTime. As for the golden book on top bookcases, you will need Seasons to get the career reward bookcase to use and study other skills like Charisma, Body, Logic and such that are not available on regular bookcases.

In short, FT is required for the special skills. Seasons is required for the golden book on top bookcases. You can use either mod if you only have Sims 2 or have other EPs/SPs.
79  Resident Creators / EP8 Mods / No Motive Decay From Cauldron - AL on: October 01, 2008, 12:20:35 pm
This mod prevents the decay of the motives while the witches make the reagents, potions and light sources at their cauldrons.

Apartment Life is required.

80  Resident Creators / EP8 Mods / No Autonomous Swing Child - AL on: September 27, 2008, 03:05:49 pm
This mod curbs the autonomous behavior of Swing Child, an interaction between an older Sim (teens and up) and a child for Apartment Life. The mod does not nerf the option to swing the child around by hand.

Apartment Life Only.

81  Resident Creators / EP8 Mods / Bladder Decay Mods - AL: 10-02-08 UPDATED on: September 27, 2008, 02:55:38 pm
These three mods were updated and based off Squinge's original mods to slow down the bladder decay rates for three groups of Sims:

SlowerBladderDecayPregnancy - Pregnant Sims
BabyToddlerSlowerDecay - Babies and Toddlers
ElderSlowerBladderDecay - Elders
BabyToddlerSlowerDecay&Selectable - Slows Bladder and Make Babies Selectable

Note:

Your sims will be reset if they were doing something before you install these mods. You can have one or all of these mods installed if you want.

May or may not conflict with other bladder motive mods.

**CAUTION**

Do no use both BabyToddlerSlowerDecay-AL and BabyToddlerSlowerDecay&Selectable-AL together. Use one or the other, but not both.

Credit goes to Mr Squinge for his help with the new mod being uploaded today.

87  Resident Creators / EP8 Mods / Monique's Computer/Laptop Varieties - Apartment Life (12-24-16) - UPDATED on: September 14, 2008, 06:50:02 pm
Monique's Computer/Laptop Varieties - Apartment Life

UPDATED: 12-24-16 :UPDATED
-------------------------------

BoilingOil noticed a little issue with only one computer, Sunair Light Computer, and experimented with his own fix to see if it works for him. He relayed the information in a post. I followed up with a fix to that particular computer and re-uploaded the fixed computer. Check my latest post in this thread for the updated file called AL_MQ_SunairLight_ComputerUpdated.

UPDATED: 12-24-16 :UPDATED

ALL credit goes to Monique for the work she did with the computers (MQ_Cheap_Computer for one). Her work is made available at her original thread at MTS2.

**Credit goes to Alexx at MATY for his fix to a bug in the Write Novel TEST BHAV for Monique's Cheap Computer, and he had given me his permission to incorporate the fix into the FT version.**

The newly updated AL computers, based on the FreeTime v2.0 computer versions, have new functions and badges in addition to the original functions made by Monique.

**These versions -can- use recolors made by both Monique and happygolucky. They are available there.

NOTE: The recolors are not included with these versions. If you want to get the recolors, please visit Monique's original thread to get them.

Updated:

9-22-08:

Fixed the enthusiasm issue for all of the AL and FT computers preventing Sims from gaining enthusiasm while they play computer games.

*Thanks to Mr Squinge for relaying the issue to me from someone in the thread.*

What's Included for AL:

Search For Roommate - Enables the apartment residents (teens and up) to search for roommates on the computers.

In the Future:

Possibly add new functions to let Sims buy the new potions, cauldrons and spellbooks via the Shop Online feature on the computer.

What's Included for FT:

Give Financial Advice
- Better wording than "Give Financial Consulting" only on this computer. Why "Give Financial Consulting" when "Give Financial Advice" is much better and comprehendable? Available only IF the Fortune Sim or Sim with Secondary Fortune Aspiration choose the benefit from their Aspiration window for FT.

Browse Web/Blog - Available only IF the Sim has enough enthusiasm points in his or her hobby to do either one. All of the hobbies will become available if the Sim reach that point in some, most or all of his or her hobbies to do so. Enabled for children as well as teens, adults and elders to browse the web and/or blog if they have enough enthusiasm points in their hobby.

Write Restaurant Guide - Available only IF the Pleasure Sim or Sim with Secondary Pleasure Aspiration choose the benefit from their Aspiration window for FT.

Start Gaming Competition - Available only IF there is more than one computer and more than one Sim on a home or university lot. Similar to LAN Party, but available at all times.

Write Novel - Completely revamped to be compatible with FreeTime. This new function enables Sims to choose the plot elements and book cover for their new novels just like they would on the FT computers.

Pottery and Sewing Badges - Added to the functions for studying badges on a home lot and a business lot.

CAUTION:  Buy Video Games Online works, BUT the video game dialog window will only display the original Sims Bustin' Out and SimCity 4 Rush Hour games. Works as originally intended by Monique.

Compatibility:

Compatible with Twojeff's "computerfixes", JM Pescado's "nohumble", Jfade's "djshumblechoicehack", "djsantihumblehack" OR Mr Squinge's "nohumble".

Pick only ONE mod from the above because they all function the same but with different approaches as how Mr Humble is taken care of in game.

Instructions:

Unzip or unrar the package and install all of them into:

C:\Documents and Settings\******\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads

Or:

C:\Documents and Settings\******\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\AL_MQ_Cheap_Computer

You can create a folder in the Downloads folder to place these files in to keep your folders and mods organized.

Support:

Since Monique is not technically retired and is still MIA from the Sims 2 community since October 2007, her work is more or less unsupported at MTS2, but she hasn't explicitly stated anything about her work. No policy to govern how she wanted to be recognized for the work she did or how she wanted her work to be redistributed, BUT she does deserve the credit and recognization regardless.

I request that these new versions for Apartment Life not be uploaded to any site (free and pay) and Exchange without contacting me first.

**** These updated computers are "as is" at the moment with new FT/AL features. No new requests (such as new computer meshes, animations and etc.) will be considered. ****

Contact:

I'm located at either MATY, Simbology or Insiminator if need be. Smiley
88  Resident Creators / EP8 Mods / More Family Members & Pets 12 - AL (UPDATED) on: September 13, 2008, 11:09:11 am
This mod enables more than 8 Sims on a residential or apartment lot. But there are rules to the exception.

You can have any of the combination of both Sims and Pets on a lot:

8 Sims + 4 Pets
6 Sims + 6 Pets
7 Sims + 5 Pets
12 Sims

Or any combination as long as the total number of Sims AND Pets don't exceed 12.

** You can't have more than 6 Pets on the lot. The game limits only the Pets in that manner with the mod.**

MoreFamilyMembers&Pets12-AL is based off Squinge's original MoreFamilyMembers&Pets-12.

There was an issue with SimPE not saving the mod properly.  The new version should work now for AL.

Please REDOWNLOAD the new version and delete the old mod from your Downloads folder.

MoreFamilyMembers&Pets12-ALv.1.0a is now available.

Do NOT upload anywhere. This mod is to remain on Insiminator.net.

10-30-08:

It allows 6 pets max & btw you can increase the max with the cheat code below:

uintProp maxTotalSims 50
uintProp maxTotalHumans 35
uintProp maxTotalPets 15
just use what ever # you want

You can type the three above lines in the file, "userStartup.cheat", located in:

 My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config

If it's not there, just create a new file with Notepad and then save as userStartup.cheat. Don't use WordPad or any other word processing program because they use special formatting rules that the game can't read once the file is saved and executed upon the game startup.

89  Resident Creators / Mod Requests / Frequently Asked Questions on: September 07, 2008, 02:01:15 pm
Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q)

1. I am having a problem with this mod. What can I do?

There is either an issue with the mod you have or a conflict issue between the mods you have. To determine whether it is a mod or conflict issue, follow the directions below:

  • Go to Paladin's Place and click Sims 2 on the left side.
  • This will take you to the Sims 2 Contents page. You should see Programs listed on the page and click on Programs.
  • Scroll down somewhat until you see the Hack Conflict Detection Utility program. Click on the picture associated with the program and then read the directions from there to download, install and configure the program.

What HCDU does for you is to detect a conflict between the mods you have in your Downloads folder. The information you get from using the program will help you decide what mods you need to remove to avoid further conflicts.

IF you don't see a conflict, then it is not the mod issue you're having. You may have another hidden issue. The best option at this point is to return to the thread or site where you can get help with the issue.

2. I am still having a problem with this mod after I used HCDU to find the conflict. What can I do?

  • Use the Mod Help Section to start a new thread and submit the problem with the mod you have.

Guidelines For Submitting the Problem:

1. Please list the latest expansion pack you have (I.E. If you have Apartment Life as your latest expansion pack, then list Apartment Life as your latest expansion pack.)

2. List the name of the mod you're having problems with.

3. Describe the steps you used with your Sim when you encountered the issue with the mod.

Acceptable:

I was directing my Sim to use the closet to plan her Everyday outfit. The menu opens up but did not have the option for me to direct her to use the closet - Plan Everyday Outfit.

Unacceptable:

My sim use the black thingy to get clothes. Change no go.

My Sim can haz black closet but no MOAR optionz to do the changes. MOAR options!
Lolz!!

If Squinge or his minions haven't responded to the issue you're having with the mod, please be patient. You will have a reply. Try to refrain from spamming the PM boxes, posting every 5 seconds to your thread or use Mr. Micky (the witchdoctor's voodoo doll) on us. We also have our voodoo dolls!

3. I downloaded the mod. What's next?

As a thumb of rule, download the mod to your Desktop where you can easily access the zipped/rar'ed file. The Desktop is where you click on various shortcuts to the programs you have on your computer screen.

There are many excellent programs out there to help you with the job:

Win Zip:

This nifty utility does come with a price but you get a guarantee that if anything goes wrong with Win Zip, you can use the help there to figure out what to do with Win Zip. This one can unzip nearly everything.

Izarc:

This utility is free to download and use. Very similar to Win Zip and can unzip anything including rar'ed files. The menu is easy to use and is very intuitive for people who never used a zip program before.

Note:

Contact me (Chaavik), chemcourt or Jenna (Comicalmuse) via PM if you know of another great zip program you want to see listed here.

Once you get a program to use, open the zipped/rar'ed file (by right-clicking the file and selecting Open With... and choose the zip program) and extract to:

Windows XP Home/Pro:

Either:

C:\Documents and Settings\**User Name**\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads

Or:

C:\Documents and Settings\**User Name**\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\MrSquinge_Mods

Vista:

Either:

C:\Users\**username**\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads

Or:

C:\Users\**username**\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\MrSquinge_Mods

**User Name** is the name you're using with your account on the computer you're using.

As long as you put a mod in either location, you're set to play Sims 2 unless there were specific instructions with the file you downloaded to put it elsewhere.

ALWAYS read any documentation that comes with the mod you downloaded. There is usually a good bit of information about what mods will conflict with your new mod or how to use the mod. This helps reduce the time you have to spend hunting for conflicts with your mods.

IF you're not sure how to place this mod if there is no documentation, ask the creator how or where the mod should be placed.

3. Help! I can't find the mod I downloaded!

Well, we can't really come over and help you look for the new mod you downloaded. Every time you download, try to remember or note where you put the mod in. But here is a quick tip.

Windows XP Home/Pro:

Open Windows Explorer by clicking on Start->All Programs->Accessories->Window Explorer. Then look at My Documents in the left window pane. You will see My Downloads. Open by double-clicking My Downloads and check if the new mod is there. If it is, then you can drag the mod back to your Desktop where you can locate it more easily to begin extracting the mod to your Downloads folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\**User Name**\My Documents\My Downloads

Vista:

Open Windows Explorer by clicking on Start->All Programs->Accessories->Window Explorer. Then look at Documents in the left window pane. You will see Downloads. Open by double-clicking Downloads and check if the new mod is there. If it is, then you can drag the mod back to your Desktop where you can locate it more easily to begin extracting the mod to your Downloads folder.

C:\Users\**username**\Downloads

Note:

The above instructions for locating Windows Explorer are the same for both XP and Vista.

4. Can you update or make this mod for me please?

If the mod is the mod Squinge made, use the Mod Requests Section to submit a request to have the mod updated. If you have a mod in mind you want one of us to make, use the Mod Requests Section also to start a new thread for an update or a new mod.

Guidelines For Submission:

1. List your latest expansion pack (I.E. If you have FreeTime as your latest expansion pack but you don't have Apartment Life, indicate FreeTime as that latest expansion pack.)

2. Name of the mod you want updated or a sensible name for a mod you want to see made.

Acceptable For New Mod:

No Autonomous Swimming

Unacceptable For New Mod:

No MOAR Swimmingz OMGZZZZZZ!!!!1111!!! @_@

If your request was denied or sidelined for a reason, it is possible Squinge or his minions have considered the request but either believe the mod cannot be made or updated for a reason or have no time right now to do your request. But you will get a reply. Try not to spam the PM boxes, post every 5 seconds in your thread or use Mr Micky (the witchdoctor's voodoo doll) on us. We also have our own voodoo dolls!

5. What if Mr Squinge is wrong?

Well, he's usually right.. For specific mods to be requested, check what he posted about what he will do or will not do. He also have certain rules about conducting yourself on his forums or how to interact with his minions (We promise not to bite):
