Thanks, BlooM. Lovely work.

But may I ask, which folder shoulld the Fix file go in? I don't seem to have a folder called "Defaults". Should I have? And if so, where should it be?

Sorry, but I'm a bit confused.

Terrific work, BlooM. Kudos to you and many thanks.

Actually, I'm wondering if it's ok to make a request here? As I know you're not fond of getting them in the form of PMs, but I'd very much like to ask for a mesh.... and in principle, it's quite similar to what you've done here - ie. making a "top" seperate that's cut from a "full" body.

You'll be familiar with the Maxis' Public School Uniforms, yes? You know - the blazer, sweater and tie, yeah?

Well, is there a chance that you might be willing to make "top" versions of these? Perhaps one for Teens and one for Adults/YAs?

I hope it's ok to ask. It's just that I have some very nice school-skirt bottoms(with a longer skirt and heels) but no school top to match.

So I wondered if you might be willing to make a top-only school blazer to go with them? I'd be most grateful.

Thanks. Smiley

Wonderful stuff. I've wanted more barefoot+skirt meshes. And I like the use of maxis feet sometimes, 'cos the sexy feet meshes always warp out of shape with decorgal's custom poses hack, so hopefully this mesh should work ok with it.

BlooM, is there any chance you might be willing to do a maxis barefoot version of the school skirt? You know, the pleated one they use for Private School. Pref. one for Adults/YAs and one for Teens?

Please? Smiley

Thanks for the great work so far anyway Smiley

Oh, I see. Sad

Not 100% sure about the EULA stuff... but what little I do know would suggest that it's ok.

I've picked up a few titbits of knowledge on this from users more "in the know" than myself, and I as far as I can gather, it all comes down to two things: percentage of alteration to initial subject, and patent ownership of file format.

In the case of the former, I read from studies done by Beosboxboy that an alteration of 11% or greater reclassifies the custom content as unprotected - assuming I've understood correctly - now, given these feet were extracted from a full body model(I'm assuming), more than 89% of the model has been eliminated from the "end product", thus I would venture to assume that constitutes more than an 11% change.

Furthermore, Poser itself is a freely available software package(it's just the premium object meshes one has to purchase), but even if it weren't, I don't believe that restricts the cirulation - even for profit - of work produced using it. It's a tool that can be used for professional purposes, no? Just as music produced by/for professional artists can be legitimately created on professional software suites. In any event, the issue of commercial enterprise is negated because this work is offered up for free.

In any case, numerous internet sites do exist in which artists host work produced using professional art software - be it "painted" in Photoshop or rendered in 3D packages such as Poser or others of a similar nature. Some of that art is hosted free, and some isn't... but I believe it doesn't matter since the artist holds ownership of the work, whilst the software company holds ownership of the suite and its code. Ie. it's illegal to redistribute the software, but not work you've produced on it.

Now on the second issue - patent of the file type. That, I believe rests with Maxis. You see, Maxis own the patent of the .package file, I learnt recently, hence the veto or permission to redistribute sims' custom content rests with them. I'm sure it goes without saying that Maxis permit - nay encourage - the circulation of custom content for the sims, and they have stated such, because that's the whole point of the Exchange not only existing on the web but actually being accessible from "in-game".

Maxis' only disapproval is over .package file content being distributed for profit. In other words, they approve and encourage custom content being shared for free, but are none too happy about paysites.

Point is, these feet - if I understand correctly - are in the form of a .package file, and that means that the patent on them rests with Maxis.... and Maxis' only caveat is, "don't charge for it".

I confess I'm no expert, and I do know there are users with a deeper knowledge of this than myself, but I believe it's safe to distribute these feet.

Hello, Bloom.

I've just taken a quick look at your pics, and these feet look excellent. You must've put a LOT of work into applying them to so many meshes if they indeed replace ALL feet on ALL Maxis barefoot meshes.

Can you tell me how to get the file to work in the game? I've opened the zip and there appears to be a .bmp file in there... but I'm at a loss as to how that will have any effect on the game.

Can you explain what I should do with this file?

Many thanks.

Thanks, Marvine. Great work. Smiley

You might want to check on the clothing categories though. I checked in SimPE(I always check Accessorie's Cats in SimPE before importing them), and none of them were set to "naked/"skin", and only two were set for "Maternity"/"Pregnant". Was this deliberate, or an honest mistake?

In any event, I've updated my own copies, but you might want to update these here so users unfamiliar with SimPE can re-download them...

...unless it was deliberate of course. Wink

Otherwise, excellent. Absolutely gorgeous, and so much better than any horns I already had.

Many thanks. Smiley

Ah, right. The Natural replaces the old 40DDD, eh? But the Enhanced is totally seperate.

Thanks, mate. That clarifies things. Smiley

Sorry, I'm a tad confused.

We have to delete the old 40DDD Formal Mesh(es), yeah? But it's ok to keep the textures that used the 40DDD 34 clothes, yes?

So, if I DL these new files, what will happen to any of my sims who are already wearing the old 40DDD clothes and using 40DDD 34 skintone(s)? Will they now end up wearing 34B 34 Maxis clothes(including nude state)? Or will they end up with the new clothes?

See, I notice that you've made 2 new shapes/skins for each hip size - natural and enhanced, but if I remember rightly, there was only 1 40DDD in each hip size.

So, will my sims, who use the old 40DDD 34, end up with Natural or Enhanced? Or will they get turned into Maxis Default-sized sims?

Sorry for my confusion.

Doc, great work on this project. I too use Inge's doors/arches, and am always on the lookout for more, because whilst Inge's fantastic work is undeniable, its lack of numerous door/arch-types is a constant niggle... so I thank and applaud you for giving us new doors. Cheesy

May I ask if you intend to make any more hacked doors? Indeed, do you have Inge's permission to apply/amend coding for others?

For instance, 4-key gates - Inge only put the codes into two gates, none of them large, just the small white wooden one and the black wrought iron. IF you have the permission and inclination, more variety in those would be nice.

Not wishing to be demanding or putting you under any unfair pressure, of course... but I'm sure that myself and many other folks would greatly appreciate that, or any future variety if you feel inclined. Smiley

In any case, many thanks for these.

Cheers,
Adam.

Hello, Squinge. It's me again.

I know it's been a long time since we talked about visitor detention, but I hope you memory of our discussions is still fresh.

I've been doing some fiddling with Housing/Business Lots of late, and I was having some difficulty getting sims to clear off home. Even if I set Visitors Stay to Disabled, they still wouldn't take the hint and get out.

I DL'd Paladin's HCDU(Hack Conflict Detection Utility) and ran it. The Refresh Painting posed NO conflicts at all, but Visitors Never Leave conflicted with Twojeffs' Visitor Controller.

My own fault, I'd totally messed up and forgotten to remove Visitors Never Leave, which I should've done because this painting makes it redundant, right?

Doh!

So, after scrapping Visitors Never Leave, I tested this one again, and even with Twojeffs' hack, all seems well so far...

...but I have two small issues thatI need to raise:

1) WITHOUT this painting on a Lot, and with VNL removed, the game will use the default settings for determining whether or not visitors should go, right? So on all Lots where this painting is NOT present, visitors won't be detained, correct?

Sorry for the confusion on my part, but it's been so long, and I've mistakenly had VNL running, so I got confused over which hack's doing what.

Yep, I'm an arse.

Sorry.

2) With Visitor Stay disabled, it seems that sims(though they will leave eventually) need an awful lot of motive reduction(more than just 25% Energy stat) before they'll decide to clear off. I guess this is just the standard Maxis default setting... although I understand Twojeffs' VC makes them stay later, but I don't think it alters the motive threshold.

Is there a chance that this could be altered? Perhaps a hack to raise the motive threshold so that they need fewer low motives before going home? For starters, I reckon that IF they're not on a Sleepover, visitors should leave before their Hygene drops low enough for them to shower. That would make sense, no? I mean, if I were dropping in round someone's house for tea but not staying over, I'd use their toilet when necessary, but I wouldn't strip off and get in their bath or shower without permission.

What do you reckon to a wee hack to raise the likelyhood of them clearing off home?

IF you feel inclined, I'll gladly do some playtesting to help ascertain a sensible level for the settings.

In any case, thanks for your work, as always. Smiley

Excellent work as always, Slim. You have an outstanding talent, and I thank you for sharing this latest offering.

I just HAVE to run a simmie casino in my 'hood now, thanks to you.

Most impressive.

BTW, LOVE your sig. Echoes is my all-time favourite song by anyone ever. Smiley Glad to see someone else around here likes it too. Smiley
12  Retired Creators / BodyShape Requests / Middle-aged Mesh maybe? on: November 02, 2006, 09:18:03 am
Hello, Warlokk.

Just a wee thought for you.

I've been wanting to make some middle-aged (45-55 yo) ladies for my game, and as a consequence, I've taken to DLing/modifying some suitable skins and face-makeup.

Currently I'm tinkering with the "Light" Simcribbling, copying the Elder Bmps into the Adult, so that the Adult Female will have all the wrinkles of the Elder. But of course there's a slight shortcoming...

...The boobies on the Adult aren't the same shape as those on the Elder. This means that one ends up with lines under the norks, and it looks a bit odd when the sim is "au naturelle".

So, I was wondering - and PERHAPS I'm not the only person around here who'd like to have some middle-aged ladies in the game? - is there any chance you might consider making a Middle-aged Mesh that would suit Louis' Elder skin(but on an Adult)?

My thought was that it should be the same as the Default 34B-28-34, BUT with the Elder's jubblies. I'm not sure how easy it would be to modify the shirt-potatoes from the original so that they match up with Louis' BMP file, but I'd have thought that maybe it's easier than creating a whole new Mesh from scratch perhaps?

As an added bonus, since the bottom half would be identical to the standard 34" Hip, it woud mean that in Everyday wear at least the Middle-aged woman could match pretty much any Maxis bottom to a Middle-aged top. Smiley

Thus, only two Meshes would be needed - a full suit and an Everyday top.

What do you think?

I'd be ever so grateful if you could find the time to have a crack at it.

Thanks.

Adam.

Squinge, old thing...

Next time you're doing an update of this mod with more anims, do you think you might be able to add the "machine gun" animation?

It's one of the gestures that very occasionally shows up when sims chat. Know the one I mean?

It's also very similar to the anim the Repo Man does when he fires his, er, suction gun.

In fact, if that one's easier to find, then fair enough. Lol.

You see, VampCat's made some gorgeous Meshes of guns, and one of the users on MTS2(to my shame, I forget who) has made a painting which magically places the gun(s) in the sims' hands from out of thin air, so if "Hula" could enable the "rat-a-tat" animation(either the "chat" one or the "Repo"), that would be ultra-awesome for films, photos and general storytelling...

...don't you reckon? Smiley

Anyone who creates neighbourhood decorations is my hero! Thank you!

I have to agree with zukanob there, Sgoobysnacks. There's are so few Neighborhood Objects being created out there in the Sims Community, and only a handful of creators doing it.

Makes me wish that Maxis - instead of publishing Mini-EPs of Clothes and Household Objects(in FFS and GLS) - had simply released a disc of several hundred Neighborhood Objects.

I didn't buy FFS and GLS, since the 'net is teeming with custom Clothes and Objects, which are FREE, at LEAST as good as(if not better than) Maxis' releases, and which don't require a tortuous installation process likely to mess up my game and necessitate a total RE-Install of the entire thing from scratch, and then a Patch to counter all the bugs they put in it....

...but I WOULD have bought a CD crammed to bursting with Neighborhood buildings. Yesiree I would.

But they didn't release one. They just gave us more of what the Internet already has in abundance - ie. Clothes and Household Items.

So, for that reason, I am truly grateful to you, and the very small handful of users who are producing these items.

Thanks so much, Chris. Smiley Cheesy

First rate work, Sgoobysnacks. Smiley

Many thanks. The internet is awash with Clothes, Skintones, Accessories, Objects and Housing Lots for our sims... but there are so very few Neighbourhood Objects about.

Off-hand, I can think of only FIVE users who create any, so I really do appreciate what you're doing.

Many many thanks.
