16  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Re: What would you do if you woke up inside The Sims 2?! on: December 11, 2009, 05:08:49 am
I create my Sims in all good intentions. But you know what they say, The road to hell is laid with good intentions, bla bla. So, when my Sims make my gaming hours a hell I make sure to pay the favour back.

Maybe you mean the message about your students being moved to the Uni neighbourhood?
Because, after they live their houses, they are moved to Uni neighbourhood bin and you have to move them in a dorm or a house.
But, if the taxi does not appear and your students are not moved from their parents' home then something really weird is happening in your game. If it's not a hack, maybe it's some CC causing it?

Have you tried the usual "stuff"? Delete all the .cache files from My Docs\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder? If all fails, backup your game and tried the 50-50 procedure with your Downloads folder. There is a long tutorial at the Sims2Wiki to spot where the problem lies.

This is weird. You're supposed to have your teen Sim choosing the option to move to College by phone or PC and a few seconds later a taxi comes to pick him/her up. Does the taxi appear? If not, then perhaps you should check your Downloads folder and check if you have mods/hacks conflicting with each another?

And 64-bit it will be! My current pc, built 5 years or more ago, is for 64-bit but the Win XP I had bought before building my current pc was 32. Last time I did something horrible to my pc and myself: bought only 1 GB RAM and when I wanted to upgrade technology had made DDR sticks almost useless -- and hard to find.

As I want to keep my current neighbourhood and Sims (3/4 made by me and 1/4 downloaded) I am unwilling to move them if there is going to be trouble. I hope this thread to stay alive long enough, for, once I built my new pc and go for TS2 Move In operation, I will let you know how it went. Smiley

Yes, I know what you are talking about and I feel your... pain. Cheesy

1024 MB and you need more CC? The threshold for mine is 4.2 GB. After this the loading time gets above 3-4 minutes and the loading screens and changing households can seem a bit of adventrue after a few gaming hours.

P.S. 650 GB HD here.
Edit: Sorry, it's 600 GB

Nalia, I've had no problem with my neighborhoods ported over to Win 7.
I am talking about installint from scratch; as I am keeping my current pc as it is, I'm not upgrading from XP to Win 7 -- I'll buy a new copy of Win 7 for my new... piece of art. lol
We are meaning the same process, right?

Then, thanks again, this is a *big* relief. For I'm tired running TS2 with shaders off and my pc groaning every time I get over 4.2 GB of CC. This is time I'm going for the best quad Athlon can give me *waiting excitedly for December*

Thank you, Ancient, for the info. I'm about to build my new pc and will install Windows 7, and I was a little concerned about my Sims since I will move them there. I am wondering, however, if I will be able to use the same user data, with the exception of config file.  Because, if not, I will have to start from scratch, an idea that does not thrill me at all.

If you except his beard, which looks kind of fake to me, Gregor is quite the guy. Nothing wrong with the silent types, it's intriguing as you never know what they think. Cheesy

right now - 14,3 GB (over 50 000 files and around 2700 folders) rolleyes
I'm jealous of your RAM. Cheesy
26  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Re: restart neighborhood on: October 09, 2009, 04:30:24 am
It is a good idea to save your Downloads, Saved Sims, and any other folder where you've customized the contents (Cameras, Config).  Unless of course you want to start brand new on CC.
Yes, you are right, I forgot to mention it. Smiley

As for Config folder, I think it's better to copy the userStartup.cheat --the only file needed from this folder-- on the desktop and when the game has generated new files and folders to put it back again. At least, that's my preferred method, as I can never be sure of what might go wrong with the game.

Recently I reached the amazing number of 4.5 GB and my game has started groaning and moaning. I think it's time I cleaned it. :/

If you don't care for one, specific neighbourhood and you just want to start over, there is one more way: you delete user's data, a.k.a. My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2  folders -yes, the whole folder-- and you start the game. The game data stored in Program Files will create a fresh copy as if you had just re-installed.

Check NessyOriginal's FFVII characters at MTS: http://www.modthesims.info/member.php?u=493182

For me, his Cloud is the best ever created out there up to this day.
