Hey Skye... I've been away for a LONG time and just finished reading up on the fiasco that happened back in November. I'm so glad to see your still active in the InSIM community. You do such great work, and I've been a big fan ever since you made those 2 custom Sims for me a couple years ago!

Welcome to insimenator.org / The Welcome Wagon / Wow, this AIN'T the InSIM I remember!

I was never a very active member of the InSIM community... I came around mainly for the mod itself and sometimes for Skye's custom Sims. I play Sims 2 sporadically, and have been away from InSIM since the early fall... but with the release of Sims 3 (which I do not plan on getting) I came back to InSIM today just to see what's new.
And WHOA... the domain has changed from Insimenator.NET to Insimenator.ORG, yet I'm still registered, can still log in. New layout, yet the forum categories are mostly what I remember, Skye is still uploading gorgeously looking custom content... but the Insimenator mod itself, once the main attraction (for me anyway) is now UNSUPPORTED, and Eric and Kathy are GONE!
After scouring the forums and some external links to find out what happened, I have to say I am appalled yet somehow not surprised. The Insimenator was and still is a superb mod for the game - I still use it to this day with no crashes - but Eric and Kathy always seemed kind of sketchy, even nasty at times. It was really sketchy, not to mention infuriating, the way they would disappear for months at a time, only to come back begging for cash donations and threatening to shut down the site, and biting the heads off of anyone who so much as asked about an update to the Insimenator. I have to guess that people only put up with their attitude because of the mod itself and how much it brings to Sims 2... although it looks like TwoJeffs has updated his SimBlender to the point where it is almost as powerful as the Insimenator. I still don't have that one yet but I do have several of TwoJeff's other mods.
Anyway, they say all's well that end's well, and it's great to see that the InSIM community survived Eric and Kathy's ditching and the ensuing fiasco with Walt. I don't know how active I will be on the forums going forward, though I will have to at least check out the latest creations from Skye - I've always been a fan of her work!
Best regards to all Sims 2 players and creators who still call the InSIM community their home!

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Why do the townies in the "Far East" NOT look Asian?
|
on: September 09, 2007, 07:12:30 pm
|
It's a hodgepodge of Asian culture. For example, Tai Chi and Majong are Chinese while Zen and the tea ceremony are Japanese... not that EA would ever know the difference. Therefore I can't say I'm particularly surprised that the so-called locals look no different from any other townies in Sims 2.
I'm also from the Boston area though I've never spent any significant amount of time in its Chinatown.

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Do you still use the InSIMenator at all?

download merolas painting, you can add skills etc with that and it wont mess up your game! Thanks for the heads up. I found and downloaded it, and it covers most of what I use the InSIM for. Any other mods out there that boost relationships? Or add talent badges & perks? Or let you choose a lifetime want? Other than the boolprop testing cheats, that is.

Can't rely on it much until/unless Eric updates it, but for now I try using it sporadically for little things... I'll install it, launch the game, use the InSIM to boost personalty traits, skills, badges, relationships, etc, save and exit, remove the InSIM, and relaunch the game.
Personally, I enjoy The Sims 2 pretty much out of the box, but there are some issues that bother me and the InSIMentor resolves them beautifully. The big ones are the random things that you can't select in Create-a-Sim, like interests and lifetime wants, so I love using the InSIM to change those. Also high on my list are turning off aging or resetting the days in a life stage and turning of jealousy. After that I just use it to cheat now and then for building skills and relationships, etc.
As I recall, I waited till the InSIM was updated before I installed Seasons, but with Bon Voyage I couldn't wait. I'm gonna make a donation to the site if we get an updated InSIM, even if it's not for a while... Eric deserves it! (Kathy too)

Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Stupid SimMasters...@sims2.com..Grrr!

After reading through this thread, I have to say I'm simply appalled at what people have gone through on the Sims 2 BBS. I'm glad I'm not active over there! My heart heart goes out to latinlovr and PegasusDiana, and anyone else who's suffered injustice over there. I'm not sure what would be the best way to handle it... definitely staying away from the BBS and its twisted community and policies would be a good idea - no-brainer there! Other than that, going to the press might not be a bad idea, since racism and discrimination in general are such volitle subjects in America. So much of the population is in total denial that it still exists, while the reality is that it continues to run rampant. EA is a major company, and I don't know if blowing the whistle on them in the media would work... though it would be nice if they were forced to issue a massive apology to cover their arses.
