1  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / what would be your first request for the sims3 if custom content is created? on: November 16, 2008, 05:38:44 am
Other... Slim body builder is a must, (I can't bear playing with the ugly pot bellied little men, they are soooo unsexy) also eyes, hair, skintones, clothes, modern build stuff, objects, terrain paints, garden flowers, trees and shrubs. We need the hacks, censor, pregnant wear any outfit, insimenator, actually I can't play until I have all these things. Oh and one more thing, I would need a Mac version of the game ! Are they going to simultaneously release the game for Mac?
2  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / List your Bon Vonyage bugs and compatabilty issues on: October 29, 2008, 11:47:20 am
I have not been able to play on my game since installing BV at the beginning of the summer. I have been desperately trying to find any info for months. I am on a Mac so most of the stuff on this thread probably won't be of any use to me but I just thought that I would let you all know that no matter what kind of sim hell EA/XIS puts you through, it's a thousand times less than the mind numbing horror of trying to play this shit on a Mac.
There is NO patch available for BV  for Mac. Eaxis seem to be saying that if the game has problems it is Apple's security that is at fault !!
3  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / What is Securom, and are Mac users cursed with it? on: October 27, 2008, 10:22:38 am
Since installing BV before the summer I have very bad deteriorating gameplay from a fresh install.
All went reasonably well and I was enjoying the new features, beach lots etc. First i had graphics problems, pixielated faces and flashing black areas. Then the wardrobes and buy clothing function would not work and crashed the game while trying to load clothing. Then it crashed while loading 'make a family' . Now it has green mesh lines instead of neighbourhoods in the neighbourhoods screen and I can't play at all.
whether its Securom or the usual 'don't give a flying f.....' attitude to Mac gamers, it is yet another EP rife with bugs and this time I just can't find a way to fix it even after nearly 4 months of trying, at least 3 hours a day, every thing I can think of, have done before with all other EPs, found on other Mac forums, nothing works and the game just got worse and worse until I have stopped playing (sic), well fighting, with the game.
I am sooooooo angry and upset!!

5  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Can't even boot up game! on: September 09, 2008, 02:24:28 pm
Did you do a clean fresh install when adding BV? I always find that the simplest thing to do is to save all the files that you want to keep from your game somewhere safe and then trash everything making sure to un-install all relevant sims2 files from everywhere on your hard drive including the plist files.
Once everything has definitely gone, start installing the games in order, base game, university, nightlife, ofb, pets, seasons, bv. You do have to install it all in the applications folder. Remember to also have the correct edition of all mods, cep etc.
This is the way i get the game to work, or at least to boot up. After I actually get to play the game, things go down hill, in terms of crap happening all the time, from there.
Hope this helps.
6  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / The Sims 2 combopatch for Mac (should be stickied?) on: August 26, 2008, 08:06:42 pm
I have tried to download this combo patch but it appears to be saying that it will take almost a day to download ! ! !  Can this possibly be true? Every time that I have tried to download it the session has timed out. Perhaps when you are getting the message that there is 'nothing to download' its because the same thing happened to you , or did you manage to keep it going for 23 hours?
7  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Lossing files? on: August 26, 2008, 07:40:27 pm
I think that you should do a fresh install of everything, remembering to un-install all files. Don't put anything but your mods back into the game until you have launched it a couple of times to make sure it is all working and then very slowly rebuild your downloads folder, starting with those files that you know are safe.
I am in the process of trying to find out why I can't make a new family, or buy any new clothes for my sims. Strangely it seems that none of  my clothes files are the culprit as the game quits even when I have no clothes or clothes meshes in the downloads folder! ! In fact I took every file to do with sims out, saved sims, clothes, hair, genetics and the game still quits when I try to buy new clothes. If I take all the downloads except for my mods then it allows me to buy clothes. I think that this means that the dodgy file must be in build or buy objects, but the game is not affected  until I try to buy clothes or try to make a family and then it just quits. It is driving me crazy and I have been trying to fix it for about 6/7 weeks.  If anyone can think of what it might be I would appreciate some help.
Thanks
8  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / My Sims are disappearing! on: January 31, 2008, 05:39:59 am
I have the same problem with the disappearing families. It has been going on for so long now that i try to never get too attached to anyone in the game, because I know that sooner or later they are going to go. I have never found out why this should happen but I do suspect it is one of the horrid glitches that the two EPs Business and Pets have in them. They are the notorious EPs for causing all sorts of weird and insurmountable problems and I think I have had them all! I like to have all the EPs so that all downloads work in the game so I put up with the horrible annoying stuff that goes with having them , but if you want to be able to keep your families down through generations, I would suggest not putting either of these into your game.
The intel macs are also difficult with The Sims 2. I bought my daughter a new intel macbook with the newest OS and it won't allow me to put any expansion packs onto the game at all!!!! It will take the base game and play it but as soon as I install an expansion pack the message that I have to install the base game first comes up. V.V.V. annoying and I haven't managed to get to the bottom of this yet.
9  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Families randomly disappearing on: September 24, 2007, 03:26:32 pm
This is a new, or rather, many new, random weirdness happening.
The game is just deleting whole families for no apparent reason.
Sometimes it is deleting a baby in a family or, in one family it deleted all the children.
i am getting " errror can't save stack" messages when a character is giving birth and the only way out is to turn the computer off completely and then reboot.
What else?
Oh yes, although I have made several houses and saved them to the 'houses bin' the game won't let me into the 'houses bin', it's not lit up in the screen. Sometimes it will let me make a family, sometimes it randomly quits while making the family, sometimes it quits before getting to the cas screen.
Is anyone having any similar problems?
I have a feeling that I am going to have to start dumping everything again and start again from a fresh install.
In the three years I have been playing with the sims2 I have never managed to play for long enough to see anyone in any of my families get any older than half way through adulthood before the game goes so completely haywire that I have to start again.
Astonishing isn't it!
Any comments or help much appreciated.
Thanks
Barbara
10  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Help please! Insimenator not showing up on: July 24, 2007, 04:33:32 pm
Not only can I not get any objects or build or garden cc to show up now that I have installed Seasons but the insiminator is not showing either. I have all the downloads that have to do with people ie; hair , makeup, clothes, saved sims etc showing but no objects or hacks or insimenator.
11  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Absolutely on: July 23, 2007, 05:26:19 pm
yes I absolutely did do that , this is how I know that some of the cc is showing and some of it is not showing. Do you have folders within your downloads folder? Do they work for you? Can you give me a list of exactly how you have named them and organised them? Maybe I have got this bit wrong.
Thanks
12  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Some cc not showing in Seasons, but some does on: July 23, 2007, 05:06:24 pm
Hi all
I have just recieved my Seasons EP, at last!
I decided to sort out my Downloads folder for this new EP and have made a Downloads folder with seperate folders for everything inside it. ie; Downloads/Clothes,Hair,Eyes,Lips,Brows,Shadows,Liners,Blush,Skintones,
               BuildMode/Floors,Walls,Fences,Doors and Windows,Stairs,Garden,
Strangely only some of the cc is showing in the game. Everything to do with Sims are fine, all clothes, hair etc. are showing but some of the build things like doors and windows, stairs, garden plants are not showing. Walls, floors and fences are. Also, nothing in the Buy Mode folder is showing up so no furniture, appliances, or decorative objects.
I can't work out what is going on.
Does anyone have any ideas about this?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Barbara
13  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Help! How do I install custom careers on a Mac? on: July 10, 2007, 11:11:43 am
I have to warn you that putting custom careers into your game on a mac sometimes has a devastating effect on the gameplay. You are putting them in the correct place if you have them in the downloads folder. BUT, I have to say that my advice is to get them out of there before they do any more damage than just not showing up. So many weird things can happen to the game that are cleared up by just taking out custom careers, so it's best that you just don't put them in.
14  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Missing download folder. on: June 29, 2007, 04:47:07 am
The way to your downloads folder is as follows, click on your hard drive icon.
In the window, click on  Users/ then the little house with your name/then Documents/then EA games/ then The Sims2/ then you should find a folder called Documents. If it is not there, make one. All your downloaded package. files should be put in here. Do not put anything other than package. files in. No Packs, no JPEGS, no read me files.
15  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / sim programs for mac? on: June 29, 2007, 04:37:32 am
Sadly there is very little out there for mac users in this area. WooHoo for mac is the only app that I know of and it was never finished and I think the guy who was doing it got fed up with the lack of support and quit. Some of it does work, you can look at what the files are and it will backup your game files. It can find corrupt files but because it is not really up to date with all the new EP's and the new cc files it will see files that are 1.1 and 1.2 as corrupt, whether they are or not so its a bit of a lottery. One way to check on things that your game does not like is to look at a file called 'CustomCo....bjects,txt'  You will find it here Users/your name/Documents/EAgames/The Sims2/Logs. This will list everything that your game MAY have trouble with. Now, and this is the problem, the game will run fine with most of the suff that is in this list, but somewhere in this list may be the file that breaks the camels back.
That is really all there is that I know of.
Except to say that some mac users find it useful, sometimes, to bin a file called  'Groups.cache' found in the same location as 'Logs.'
It seems to have no function and it can help some problems to get rid of it. It does keep coming back every time you load the game but some have found that it helps to get rid of it.
Hope this is helpful
