16  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Misc. Mods and Careers / Wake up apartment neighbors fix on: June 06, 2009, 10:23:13 pm
OMG  Wake up apartment neighbors fix

* Requires     : Apartment Life
* Compatibility: The Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open For Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Store Edition, FreeTime, Apartment Life, Mansion & Garden Stuff, all Stuff Packs
* Modifications: Global (affects all apartment lots)
* Hack Version#: 1.0

Quick Info
~~~~~~~~~~
There is a little problem in the game code.  After your neighbors go to sleep, they technically never wake up.  Yes they do appear to be awake.  They leave their apartment, go to work, answer the door when you knock (if they're in the mood), and so on.
But the game code still leaves them classified as being asleep.  Many hacks which check to see if Sims are awake on the lot will fail for Apartment Neighbors because they're considered to be sleeping all day long.
This hack fixes the glitch.  No it doesn't forcible wake them up and make them leave their apartments.  It just fixes a data value that was classifying them as always being asleep.
17  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Misc. Mods and Careers / Harvestable produce restocking fix on: June 06, 2009, 10:16:53 pm
WTF  Harvestable produce restocking fix
* Requires     : Open For Business, Seasons
* Compatibility: The Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open For Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Store Edition, FreeTime, Apartment Life, Mansion & Garden Stuff, all Stuff Packs
* Modifications: Semi-Global (affects all harvestable produce)
* Hack Version#: 1.0
Quick Info
~~~~~~~~~~
Produce comes in 3 different qualities: Bland, Tasty, Mouthwatering.  Each quality type has a unique monetary value.  So Mouthwatering Produce will sell for a higher price than Bland Produce.  Fish come in all sorts of different species and sizes, each being worth a different amount of money.

There is a problem in the game code though.  When you restock a produce item, it may be replaced with one of a different quality.  So if you had a Bland Cucumber on sale for $11 and it got restocked with a Mouthwatering Cucumber, the sale price would still be $11 for that new Mouthwatering variety.  The game should be setting the price to the value of that new Mouthwatering Cucumber, which is $34.  Had you placed a brand new Mouthwatering Cucumber up for sale, the price would have been set for $34.  So it is only restocking that is buggy.

Fish already restock correctly.  But this hack will correct the problem for produce, by only allowing a piece of produce to be restocked with another one of the exact same type at the exact same quality.  This way, you won't be "giving away" your valuable Mouthwatering produce at super-low Bland prices.

Open For Business is necessary or else you can't have stores and can't restock.  Seasons is necessary because it is the only expansion pack that gives you Produce (fruits, veggies, fish) which can be sold on OFB owned lots.  This hack only affects Seasons Produce.  If you don't have those 2 Expansion Packs, the hack will not crash your game (it just won't do anything useful for you).

I can do you one better: just grab RAR (which works for most systems like MacOS/Linux/Windows) from www.rarlabs.com
that way you can download all of my mods and tons of others that are only available as .rar

I would believe some mods that you have are not truly compatible with Freetime. Does the problem occur if you remove all mods and downloaded content?
20  Simmers' Paradise / Mods & Careers / Re: No baby on the floor mod on: May 24, 2009, 11:44:45 am
lol!  I agree that it seems awful to always be leaving babies on the floor instead of putting them in a crib.
21  Simmers' Paradise / Where Can I Find...? / Re: WCIF baby mod on: May 22, 2009, 10:26:01 am
The mod posted here is not finished. Soon I'll have a completed version done that has many more features. The mod was mainly created to prevent Sims from getting bottles out of an empty fridge. It was only by accident, while messing around with the coding, that I ended up making a Sim sit to feed the baby. It was really surprising because I didn't think that was even possible. I'm glad everyone seems to like it though.

Thanks for the advice.  I had also added the bit at the top already:

...I'll make this clear upfront.  Do not install any test files from the embedded RAR archives unless you are planning on making your own hacks.  Those 2 files make messages scroll down your screen every time you move the mouse over a sink.  They are only for testing hacks that you make yourself.
But I think adding a choice in the pie-menu (like you suggested) for both of those test files may be a good idea. That way you can leave them installed but have to actually select a menu option to make it scroll the messages. It seems other people install them by mistaken too and end up reporting that their sinks are spamming messages all the time  Undecided

Hey Blansive, you can just download the zip file that Paden uploaded (it already has the config file setup to force all Sims to sit always). But if you really want to modify the file on your own, SimPE should be easy to figure out.  I'm sure there are tutorials on how to edit bcon files somewhere, but it is very simple.
24  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Misc. Mods and Careers / Re: Game Edition addon (for creators/modders) *UPDATED to v1.1* on: May 21, 2009, 01:49:55 pm
as ancienthighway explained, those messages are caused by extracting the files from TEST.RAR and/or TEST2.RAR.  those 2 files are just for testing purposes.  the only file that you should have copied to your Downloads directory is df_game_edition_addon.package, and nothing else.  if you do that, then the sinks won't display messages.  it is all explained in the readme file.
25  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Misc. Mods and Careers / Re: Cell phone calls cost money on: May 18, 2009, 05:02:41 am
Yes both of those addons are 100% required.  The code from them is use by this cell phone mod.  One of them is used to check which EPs are installed so the mod will run correctly on any EP.  The other one is what is used to debit the money for cell phone usage (it also allows the family funds to go into the negative if the Sim doesn't have enough money).

And yes, the cell phone mod could have been made "standalone" by including the 2 addons inside of it.  But it shouldn't be a big deal to install those 2 addons.  I am the author of all of them.  Even other people put out mods that contain multiple files, such as Inteenimater or Simlogical's Apartment Fixes.  Many of my mods requires either one or both of those addons.  They're perfectly safe.

Thanks to Ailias for requesting this mod, or else I probably would not have done it.

OMG  Cell phone calls cost money

* Requires     : University
* Compatibility: The Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open For Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Store Edition, FreeTime, Apartment Life, Mansion & Garden Stuff, all Stuff Packs
* Modifications: Semi-Global (affects all phones)
* Hack Version#: 1.0

Quick Info
~~~~~~~~~~
* You must also download the following addon(s) for this hack to work correctly:
  df_game_edition_addon.package
  http://www.insimenator.org/showthread.php?t=94482
  df_globals_pack.package
  http://www.insimenator.org/showthread.php?t=94483
Instead of being free, cell phone usage will now cost Simoleons.  The amount charged can be a flat-rate fee for each call and/or be based on the total time spent on the call.  By default, the hack is configured to charge 1 Simoleon at the minimum per call with the total usage time added in as well.  The usage charge is set by default to 1 Simoleon for each 5 minutes spent on the call.
All cell phone calls will be affected by the hack, including both outgoing calls and incoming ones.  This hack will affect custom content cell phones as well, with the exception of the "Call Taxi" option while on a community lot.  You would need to ask the author of the custom phone (or fix it yourself) to import the "Interaction - Call Taxi For Go Home" function from my hack to get that "Call Taxi" option to be billable.
Due to massive changes in the phone system starting with the Pets Expansion pack, it seemed best to make 2 different editions of the hack.
Use PET-MG.RAR if you have at least one of these EPs/SPs:
Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Teen Style Stuff, Store Edition, FreeTime, Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff, IKEA Home Stuff, Apartment Life, and/or Mansion & Garden Stuff
Use UNI-OFB.RAR if you do not have any of the packs listed above.
* Check out the readme.txt file for more information.
28  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Misc. Mods and Careers / Random chance fix on: May 13, 2009, 05:46:10 pm
OMG  Random chance fix
* Requires     : FreeTime or Apartment Life or Mansion & Garden Stuff
* Compatibility: The Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open For Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Store Edition, FreeTime, Apartment Life, Mansion & Garden Stuff, all Stuff Packs
* Modifications: Global (affects all lots)
* Hack Version#: 1.0
Quick Info
~~~~~~~~~~
There is code in Nightlife and all higher Expansion/Stuff packs which determines random chances.  Many areas of the game make use of it, mostly to allow things to happen randomly (based on a percent).  Will a townie walkby?  Will drinking that special juice give you an extra skill point?  And so on.

In FreeTime and all games released after it, Maxis changed that code and it now calculates the chance incorrectly.  Something that should only occur 50% of the time, will now occur 66% of the time.  An event that should only take place one-third of the time (33%), will now occur one-half of the time (50%).

While it may be hard to notice such things during actual gameplay, the glitch still deserves to be fixed because it is making the game behave improperly.

* Check out the readme.txt file for more information.

The previous version called df_budget_transact_addon.rar was downloaded 210 times.  This new hack includes that old addon and a whole lot more.

A new and better 1.1 version is available. Previous one downloaded 23 times. Thanks to Numenor's suggestions at MTS on improving the mod.
