1  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / help on: March 16, 2008, 04:28:57 pm
Are you placing these items in folders in your downloads? I have found the best way to assure they show up is to leave them loose in the downloads folder, when you put items in folders the Sims program seems to ignore them a lot of the time.

I was just adding additional info to the comment by simz2luvr22 for caquen. Just some additional options, as it appears caquen is still having problems with rar files.
3  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Flashing... on: March 13, 2008, 12:18:11 am
Sounds like your overloading the memory trying to run both at the same time. You mentioned it ran fine for the first few expansions. but the memory needed for each plus the memory needed to run the virtual pc is probably to much for the system. If you can increase the ram memory this might solve the problem. I used to be able to access it on my old I MAC but I now have a new one and still getting my bearing's. Hope this helps.
4  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Resolved! YAY on: March 12, 2008, 11:58:18 pm
Well color me :goofy: . I was in the process of trying to make pictures to show the problem and suddenly thing's are working! :blob5: I had just earlier this evening installed some older patches I had found on the net. The newest patch did not work at all.

This is the first game I have tried playing on computer, started 0n PS2 but got frustrated by single level housing, and all this custom content is overwhelming. Never even thought that my game might need fixing.

My thanks to all that responded and racked their brains over this  for me. Eventually I will get a handle on how all this works.
5  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Custom bedding not showing (NL only) on: March 12, 2008, 10:55:14 pm
Is it possible there was a thumbnail pack with the download that didn't get installed? I used to delete them until I realized some objects were not showing in the list. Some downloads have them and for the most part they are just labeled thumbnails. You may need to rename them with the object name thumbnails, in order to place them in your downloads, or your will probably get a message telling you that file already exists, tho it may actually be from another product.
6  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Quitting as starting up - Fixed, or so I thought on: March 11, 2008, 08:23:52 pm
Sounds like you have somehow deleted your sim's game. You may need to re-install it. Or you may want to search your hard drive for the game files as well you may have just moved them to another folder by accident. God knows I have done that once or twice and thought I lost stuff!

I would recommend this time when loading in your mods or hacks 1 at a time and re-start the game between installing downloads. This way when you start the game and it crashes you will know it is being caused by the most recent download. It may be the file itself or it is having a conflict with another hack or mod you have already placed in downloads. Most places where you get the mod / Hacks from will usually give you a mention of known conflicts with other mods / Hacks.

When you take away your downloads folder you should ALWAYS place a new downloads folder in the game folder. The game will be looking for this folder on startup.

If you decide to search for the files on your computer the game usually includes the following titles:

Cameras, cigen.package, Collections, Config, PackagedLots, Downloads, HTTPCache, Logs, LotCatalog, Movies, Music, Neighborhoods, Projects, SavedSims, SC4Terrains, Storytelling, Teleport, Thumbnails, ContentRegistry, Groups.cache .

If you manage to find one of the more obscure titles, might be easier to find the rest if you moved them by accident. Chances are they were all selected and moved to the same place.

Just a thought did you happen to "select all" by accident and end up moving them to where ever you put your downloads folder?
7  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / The Sims 2 combopatch for Mac (should be stickied?) on: March 11, 2008, 07:37:33 pm
Personally I think it's garbage. I downloaded it and when I tried to install it I got a message telling me there was nothing to install. This may have been a good thing!

Before installing take a look at some of the comments about it. http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=18775
Some people are claiming it has created more problems than it has solved.
8  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / I don't know what mesh is or how to make it work! on: March 11, 2008, 07:15:01 pm
Some packages don't like to be copied. Once you download a file you have to unzip it. double click it this process should activate a decompression program if you have one. This should then generate a folder.

Open the folder and gather the program / mesh files from that folder, and place them in your downloads folder. You only need to install the program files, thing's like jpg's or gif's of the file to show you what it looks like in game, or the "read me text", (which you definitely should read as it will inform you of thing's you have to be aware of, if any, when loading the file), don't need to be placed in your downloads folder.

The item's should now be in your game. If they aren't there may be a few reason's.

You may need to download re-colors from another link in order for the mesh to work.

The project was based on an expansion pack you don't have installed, therefore no mesh in the game for the re-color.

Or you may have simply downloaded the recolor and still need the mesh.

I have run into this often and if you can get back to the link where you found the object you may find another file listed that you missed or a link to re-colors or mesh. There will also usually be an indication of any expansion packs needed to use the object, make sure you have the ones listed.

I have the Base game and Nightlife. I occasionally find University downloads that will work with NL, I have a feeling this is because NL was released after UNI.

Hope this helps and happy Simming!
9  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Help I can't find my photos!!! on: March 11, 2008, 06:41:09 pm
I have the same system as you and they are in "documents/eagames/the sims 2/neighborhoods/N001/storytelling" for example. It could also be N002/003/004 depending which you were playing. Unfortunately this folder has all the photo's for that neighborhood including individual and family loading screen shots.
10  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Help! My sim's paint to the right! Resolved on: March 11, 2008, 06:31:24 pm
I recently downloaded a modeling hack but this problem has been going on as far back as I can remember. I think I may have inadvertently adjusted the camera's angle in game somehow but I can't seem to figure out how to undo it. My in game pictures are fine, it just happens when I try to select a subject for my sim to paint! You get the target box in the middle of the screen but it paints whatever is to the right of the target area.
11  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Determine Sim's baby's gender. on: March 11, 2008, 06:24:56 pm
Best I have found is the tried and tested method of saving before having the baby. I now it can be a pain having to restart all the time, but if you really want a boy or girl it seems to be the only way to do it.
12  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Question about 'Projects' -folder on: March 11, 2008, 06:06:18 pm
MiM is right. Once you import them into the game there is a file saved in your downloads.

I have opened the project folder and deleted everything, what I have created is still in the game. The additional files are tags for bodyshop, they are created so the bodyshop program can locate the correct folder. You will also see in the folder for your clothing there is a "file name you selected to save under".package that is linked to the external file in the project folder. These are what create the list of projects in your bodyshop menu when you load a saved project.

There is no need to keep back up files if you want to do work on these later you can just reload the original file back into bodyshop and modify away. I have noticed that reloading and modifying files I have created and saved doesn't work as well. Bodyshop seems to have a tendency to degrade the picture, you are always best off to work with the original files as a bases for your project.
13  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Meshing-programs for Mac on: March 11, 2008, 05:50:45 pm
I have never had a problem downloading any files zip or rar format. I however have always used the Mozilla Search Engine rather than Safari and had great success with it.

I have found the stuffit expander provided on the Mac is more than sufficient, most times I have had a problem un-stuffing a program the problem has been with the zip file not fully being there due to a poor connection when downloading. When re-downloaded they unzip fine.

I do have to add for anyone not yet aware Mac Unpac is definitely worth looking at! There are still some sim packages it won't recognize, but it will definitely allow you to install some you previously couldn't. Definitely a step in the right direction! If you don't already have it go back one page and scroll down Megativity13 has a link posted.

15  Simmers' Paradise / Mac-Users Only Peer Support / Very nice detailed skins turning splotchy and ugly, help! on: March 09, 2008, 04:25:22 am
I have been playing with the body shop program quite a bit. I have tried everything including simply transferring the files without opening them. It seems the problem is with the bodyshop program, I have a feeling it is set for a low resolution skin. When I find a nice skin-tone to download in the correct body type it shows up beautifully in my game.
