406  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Anyone figure out how to get the genie yet? on: February 29, 2008, 09:09:55 pm
You're welcome.

I'm going to go try the FT out tonight so if I discover anything else about this I will come back and update this.
407  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Anyone figure out how to get the genie yet? on: February 29, 2008, 08:34:07 pm
I haven't played it yet myself- but my 16 yr old is being the "tester" and he says:

You need to have a really high lifetime aspiration level and have HIGH enthusiasm in more than one hobby (the more the better).

HOWEVER- he used a cheat to max out his skills, hobby enthusiasm, etc, and the genie didn't show up- so he tried again without the cheat- and got a genie.

So- I guess you have to get there without cheats.

Hope this helps. Smiley

To be perfectly honest...

I do love my avi...

But unfortunately it doesn't work.

Banging my head on the keyboard as illustrated usually just locks up my computer and gives me a migraine.  LOL

I have been trying to get a link on the first page to load for this whole time by the way- so yeah- I can see me having a total avi moment here very soon.  (grrrr)
409  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / 'Securom isn't bad' according to Maxis on: February 29, 2008, 08:01:01 pm
If I understood this thing right though- it means that you CAN remove the SecuRom but that if you want to play the games again- it installs it again- and then you have to remove it again- only to have it reinstall again and so on Huh?

I think we are going to use the old PC as our "guinea pig"... just in case. LOL

Look, I posted my reply before Joey mentioned this had already been resolved. I do sympathise with slow connections - I have been there myself - and page not displayed errors, which still happens here sometimes.

I'm thinking "slow" would be an improvement lately... LMAO

Unfortunately, an awful lot of people still ask such questions (including the now infamous WCIF/need help with Inteen ones), and generally don't bother to look. You plainly do, that's great, but it gets hard to tell the difference sometimes.

Yeah in my searching I noticed that comes up a lot... even I got tired of reading "this isn't the site to post or ask about Inteen"... I see how that could be really annoying.  I REALLY do.

My apologies for any misunderstandings, yours are accepted, let's just draw a line now, huh? :group hu:

Lines are fine... LINKS are a real bother though.  LOL

No worries-  I'm in less pain today and not as likely to get my panties in a wad about such things anyhoo. LOL

Now I just need to go find a link... crap. :chainsaw:

YOU didn't need to apologize by the way- I wanted to be sure to do so to anyone whose toes I might have stepped on- but you didn't do a thing wrong.

I tend to like to explain myself... of course... if you've seen my signature and avatar... there is likely not much else to explain.  *heeheehee*

Which means from their remote location they could do just about anything they want to your PC because they have administrative access to your PC. Now just imagine if one of those employee's looses it and what could happen to all the PC's with Securom on them? My own included. The things they could send to our PC. QUOTE]

Is it just me or does that TOTALLY sound like a great plot for a new Stephen King novel?Huh? LOL

It really isn't funny though... it's absolutely terrifying.

Instead of "going postal"  would that be considered "going SecuRom" Huh?

LMAO

Oh I know it REALLY REALLY isn't funny... it must be the pain pills... sorry.  *blush*

I have heard that the InSIMenator functions perfectly with Freetime, which is fabulous news to me!

REALLY???

Wow, that is good news, but mine doesn't seem to be working. Sad

Did you uninstall yours before installing FT then reinstall it after?
413  Simmers' Paradise / FreeTime Help / A Little Help Please! (Free Time) on: February 29, 2008, 07:39:36 pm
Also- as far as I can tell (so far) it seems like if you use the boolprop testing cheats thing to up your skills and such that it kind of doesn't recognize that you are "super creative".

It might be a glitch with my game though as we only installed it on our OLD pc so far to be sure it wasn't going to make anything self-destruct. LOL
414  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / CONFIRMED=== Free Time DOES have SecuRom on: February 29, 2008, 07:36:45 pm
I don't really care either way myself.  If we decide to install FT we will just do it on our old pc- that way we don't take a chance on messing up the new one.  Smiley

I just posted it because somewhere (when I was searching for something else) I saw some people posting a "will FT have SecuROm?" only when I got the confirmation I couldn't find my way back to those posts. LMAO

I figured I'd just add the thread here in case anyone was really wanting to know.

I have a friend that installed FT on her brand new laptop.... she says she doesn't know anything about SecuRom but that as far as she can tell her laptop is working as good as it was before she installed the FT.

Beats me.... >>>>?<<<<

I don't know how or where you searched, but just how thorough were you? Compiling all these links takes a hell of a lot of work - can you really blame him for being ticked off?

I mostly searched this site- well ok- when I say "search" that means I went to all the threads LOOKING for answers because the "search" heading at the top of the page doesn't ever work for me- it always goes to "this page cannot be displayed".  As far as being "thorough"... I did the best I could to find a "how to backup" and "how to remove/ should I remove the insimenator" type of things... but when you say that compiling all those links takes time- I'm sure it does... unfortunately NONE of the links here ever open for me.  I get the same "page can't be displayed" thing.

I feel almost certain that it is because when I click on a link it takes the blazing dial-up speed of 29 kbps soooo long to try to open the page it times out.

So, I am sitting at my pc for HOURS and not mere seconds like those of you with high-speed.  I am clicking like hell on links.  I am getting more frustrated by the minute.

At some point you kind of throw your hands up and say "I will just ask- maybe someone can show me the way..."

I admit I got to that point.  I have never had any downloaded items, hacks, or mods before this so I really felt kind of lost about what to do with this stuff before I install a new EP.

I also tried to access the FAQ but with the links not working- it wasn't much help.

SO--- I did delete my stupid questions and I did send out apologies.

NO- I don't blame him for being ticked off- not really.

I'm sure having lots of silly people asking silly questions all the time is annoying.

So, once again- I AM SORRY.

I have just decided to delete all my stuff for now (from the game) and I managed to make a backup disk after a lot of hair-pulling, cussing, and moaning.  I will hope that I can figure it out on my own later on.

I probably should have stated my question better- since in reality I understood all along that I had to have the correct version of the Insim for the correct (most recent) EP and that this site has nothing to do with Inteen.

I chalk that up to the high amount of Vicodin I've been popping lately (due to a really painful back injury).  :-P

That said, once again, I will just try to watch what I ask around here, and perhaps try to find someone with high-speed who will let me use their pc so I can MAYBE access all these links you mentioned.

Until that happens I can't see anyway to stop my pages from "timing out" before I get the information I need.

Sorry again for all the drama... I was just trying to get a "go here" or "do this".

I am trying to figure out a way to delete everything I ever posted here- including this thread- so if anyone wants to keep this one open -?-

IS there a way to just delete my original post and leave everyone elses?

(I haven't figured out how to delete all of my posts here yet anyway- but am asking in case I do- lol- sorry.)

I must say I am perplexed by all of the recent posts above from Danceswithwands. All of the questions listed in the first post are, most likely listed in the first post of this thread. All of her answers are listed in the first post of this thread.

uhhh yeah I read the first posts and all the other posts and I understood that the idea was to download the RIGHT stuff for your most current game/ep/whatever... I didn't know the best way to do the back up or if I NEED to delete my older versions of insim or inteen until new versions are released.  Perhaps it is that I am stuck with dial-up going at a blazing 29 kbps here = but the pages often lock up and I admit I might have missed something in the process.  I again apologize if I didn't "get it" and am not as smart or computer savvy as some here are.

As for all my recent posts---

I had this nifty message at the top of my screen about "you haven't posted for awhile... why don't you ask a question etc..." so I decided to stop being so quiet and do some posting. I did after all have a few questions and things I was confused about.

BAD IDEA I guess I should have kept my stupid mouth shut.

When I read something like this I have to ask myself: "Why do I bother?Huh??"

The writer states:

"I HAVE NO IDEA what to do when I get the new EP now that I have all this new "stuff" I downloaded.

Do I need to backup my download folder somehow? *how? and what about my Insimenator and Inteenimator? Will they work if I go out and buy the new EP?

Before anyone beats me with a wet noodle- I honestly DID try to find this info on my own... but I get kind of lost in the profuse info/posts here. SORRY."

I am sorry for the frustrated anger in this response but did the writer even read this thread's first post? If you had, I don't think that you would have had to do a mega search for answers.

EXCUSE ME and PLEASE FORGIVE MY IGNORANCE and MY NERVE at bothering to ask a question... I thought that is what these forums were for and I REALLY apologize if I posted this in the wrong spot... and by the way I did say to disregard my original post and I did state that it was a silly question and that I wasn't sure if it was even in the right place.

I can assure you I will NEVER post anything here anywhere on the forums again so that I don't have to be worried about making anyone angry.  In fact at the moment I am so upset that my questions bothered you so much... I am seriously considering logging out for good.

I can't say it enough- I AM SORRY, OK?Huh?
418  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / CONFIRMED=== Free Time DOES have SecuRom on: February 25, 2008, 04:34:36 am
Just got an email confirming it.

The new EP "Free Time" DOES install SecuRom.  :chainsaw:

I need to send a thank you on that email- she just saved me another $35 for yet another game that I would have had to use as a paper-weight. :S

Thought I'd post it for anyone who was "waiting to see".

I guess we get to screw up our pc's or spend our hard earned money on something else this week.
419  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / EA Better shape up... on: February 25, 2008, 04:09:18 am
For anyone who doesn't think they are having a problem- hold your breath-

I didn't even know about the Securom thing until last night... but in less than 24 hours I have realized that all the things that had stopped working on my new pc- well - guess what...

It was Securom and BV.

I uninstalled the H&M, TSS, and BV then used the tool to remove Securom... and now my original Dell music, video, etc programs are working again, my McAfee has stopped bombarding me with "warnings", and all is right with the world...

Well except for the $90 I'm out for the stupid EA products that I am not afraid to use.

I am just glad I found out about this before I went out and bought Free Time... I had my money saved up and all ready to spend...

Nope- I have given enough to EA seeing as I have bought EVERY Sim game, EP, and stuff pack for TS2 and I bought all the ones for the original Sims too.

I don't like spending my hard earned money on un-usable games.

EA didn't even say "Sorry".

NICE---- way to gain customer loyalty eh?
420  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Stopping working on: February 25, 2008, 04:01:08 am
uggg--- all i can say is Securom.

I had no idea what was wrong with my game or why my new pc kept crashing until i read the posts here and at ea about securom.

My wasted money that I paid for BV, H&M, and TSS says that it might have something to do with your problems as well.  Sad
